My Life Would Suck Without You
Chapter 7
Tyler drove Janessa and him home so that they could have dinner with their parents. Tyler parked his car in the driveway as the two got out of the car. Janessa looked up to find her best friend, Samantha sitting on the front porch of their house. "Hey Sammi, what are you doing here?" Janessa asked as she rushed over to give her best friend a hug but stopped when she noticed the tears in Samantha's eyes, "Sammi, what happened?"
"I'll leave you two alone." Tyler said as he hugged his sister before greeting Samantha and heading inside.
Janessa took a seat next to Samantha as she heard her best friend say, "My parents are making my family move to Florida because my father got a new job and it has him relocating."
She looked at Samantha with a shocked expression before saying, "But we've just started the school year. They can't make you leave when you've already started school."
"I've tried to tell them that but they said that we're leaving early tomorrow morning." Samantha said as she felt the tears stream down her face.
"What if we asked my parents if you could live here? Sammi, I can't make it through this school year without you. We've been through way too much and you've always been there for me." Janessa said as Sammi shook her head 'no', "But I can't lose you too, Sammi. You're my best friend."
"I know, Nessie. I've tried to argue with them and make them understand where I'm coming from but they're set on moving. All of our stuff is packed and ready to go. I'm sorry, Nessie." Samantha said as the two girls hugged each other.
"I wish there was so way where we could just have you stay here." Janessa said as she started to cry.
"I know. But I'll always be here for you, Nessie. I'll come visit as often as I can and I'll call as often as I can." Samantha said.
"And I'll do the same for you." She said as Samantha looked at her phone.
"I have to get back home. My parents are being super strict about everything right now. I'll text you though." Samantha said as the two girls hugged again, "I'll always be your best friend, Janessa Simms."
"And I'll always be your best friend, Samantha Grey. Please take care of yourself. I love you." Janessa said as the two girls felt their eyes tearing up again.
"I love you too." Samantha said as she pulled away from Janessa, "I should go."
Janessa watched as Samantha walked to her car. She waved goodbye to her childhood best friend. Her heart felt like it was shattering as she watched Samantha wave goodbye before she drove away. She wiped the tears that had streamed down her face once again before walking into the house. She felt completely numb. Today would definitely be considered the worst day ever. She walked into the kitchen to find her parents and Tyler waiting for her. She sat beside her brother, who looked at her almost asking if she were okay, "Sammi's moving to Florida tomorrow." She told them as they looked at her in shock.
"But we just started the school year like a few weeks ago." Tyler said.
"That's what I told her but she said her dad got offered a new job and it was one he couldn't pass up." Janessa said.
"She could have lived with us till you two were done with high school." Glenn said as Rosalind nodded.
"Her parents would never be okay with that. You guys know that. She never hung out past 8 on schools nights and weekends." Janessa said.
"Yeah you're right. Are you okay though, sweetie? This is a lot to handle in one day." Rosalind said.
"I don't know, mom. I feel so numb on the inside." She said as Tyler reached for her hand.
"We're here for you, baby girl." Glenn said.
"Thank you." She said as they started to eat dinner though she could barely even eat anything.
Later that night, Janessa helped her mom clean up in the kitchen before she went up to her room. She sat on the window nook just staring outside. How could she lose both her mother and best friend in the same day? How could her best friend just leave? This was so unfair. She was definitely feeling more affected by the news of Samantha having to move. This was her best friend. Someone who she had befriend since they were in kindergarten. They had done everything together. What would she even do without her? How was she even supposed to make it through high school?
Meanwhile…
Tyler paced around his room. He had felt so bad for his sister today. That was way too much for one person to handle. He decided from that moment he got home that he was going to just spend the night at home to make sure that everything was okay. He wanted to make sure that she was okay. He thought that maybe having a movie night would be good for them. She could pick what movie they were going to watch. Going with that, he changed into his pajamas before he decided to call Reid. After two rings, Reid answered, "Where are you, Tyler?"
"I'm staying home tonight. Parents me to take care of things at home." Tyler said, "Are Caleb and Pogue there?
"Yeah. Caleb's looking for you and taking care of Pogue, who's had too much to drink. Neither of us even know where he got the drinks or how he got drinks at this party. Caleb thinks there's something going on. I just think he's probably stressed out or something." Reid said.
Little did Reid know that Tyler could figure out why Pogue was drinking. Samantha was his girlfriend and he could only imagine what he was going through. To have your girlfriend move away when you guys have been together for so long much have hurt. Tyler felt so bad for him. "Just tell Caleb my parents are having me stay home." Tyler said.
"All right. See you tomorrow then?" Reid asked.
"Yeah. I'll talk to you later." Tyler said as he hung up the phone.
Typically weekend for the guys. They were usually looking for a party to go to. Well Reid and Pogue would look while they dragged Caleb and Tyler with them. Couldn't go anywhere without the whole group sometimes. Setting his phone on his nightstand, he decided to check on his baby sister. He found her in her room just staring out the window. He leaned against her doorframe. What were you supposed to say to someone who lost two important people in one day? He heard a thump and looked at Janessa. She had thrown a photo album on the floor. Tyler could see pictures of Samantha and her in the photo album. Walking over to her, he picked it up before setting it on her nightstand and sat beside her. The two of them just stared out the window. Janessa looked at Tyler and asked, "Will I ever be okay?"
Tyler wrapped his arms around her as she cried. "Of course, Nessie! In time you'll be okay. We can't expect you to be okay right away." He whispered.
"I don't want to think about these things anymore. Tell me why you're staying home. Don't you want to hang out with the guys?" She asked.
"Nope. I would rather spend time with my favorite sister and make sure she's okay." He said as Janessa laughed a little, "There's the laugh I wanted to hear."
"I'm your only sister, weirdo." She said as Tyler laughed.
"Well as my only sister it looks like you'll have to put up with me being weird." He said as she nodded her head, "Shall we have ourselves a late movie night?"
"I'd like that." She said.
"What movie do you feel like watching?" He asked.
"Harry Potter." She said as he rolled his eyes.
"Why am I not surprised?" he said.
"Cause you know it's one of my favorite series." She said.
"You only really cared for Cedric Diggory!" Tyler said.
"Because he was an amazing character and he was so good-looking. And charming!" Janessa exclaimed as Tyler laughed.
"He's a fictional character." Tyler stated.
"Well the actor who played him is good eye-candy too." She said winking at her brother as he pretended to vomit.
"Stop, I don't need to hear about this." Tyler joked as she laughed, "Just go put the movie on."
Janessa got up and put the movie on as Tyler lay on her bed. Janessa joined him as they watched the movie. They were going to watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets first. Halfway through the movie, they had fallen asleep. Rosalind and Glenn checked on their children. When they didn't see Tyler in his room, they checked Janessa's room and smiled when they saw the two fast asleep on her bed. The two parents placed the blanket over their kids so that they wouldn't get cold during the night. Walking back to the door, Rosalind couldn't help but smile. No matter what happened in their children lives, they always enjoyed being siblings. They barely argued with each other and if they did, they were quick to apologize. When something was wrong, the other was there ready to comfort. She felt blessed to have two amazing children. She hoped that in time though Janessa would be okay.
