My Life Would Suck Without You
Chapter 8
A couple days later...
As the days passed by, Tyler noticed that his sister had become more and more reserved. She barely spoke to anyone and when she did it usually was one-worded answers. She even spent a majority of her time in her room. He didn't know how to help her. It had been the longest couple of days for the Simms' family. Within a few weeks, they had gone through a lot. Most especially, Janessa. After the death of her biological mother, they learned a few days later that her biological father had committed suicide. Though her biological parents didn't have exactly the best relationship with Janessa, his death had been her breaking point. She refused to speak to anyone. She was barely eating and when she was at school her mind wasn't even there. Tyler was really worried about her. He had asked Samantha to talk to her. But even then, it wasn't the same. Janessa felt lost without her best friend physically being there.
Even with a few weeks passing by, Janessa still felt so disappointed and angry that Samantha had to move away. She felt like she had lost a part of herself. She had lost so much of herself in just a month. The Simms' family traveled to California over the weekend to attend her biological parents funeral. Tyler remembered having to hold his sister to help support her as she cried.
Since the funeral, Janessa stopped hanging out with the guys. Whenever Reid was over, she would be locked up in her room. Not even Pogue had heard from her. But then again Pogue had been busy with his own problems. He was still devastated about Samantha moving away. He didn't even know what to do with himself. He felt so empty inside. He rarely hung out with the guys now rather he chose to stay home. As for Caleb, well he had no real idea about what was going on. Janessa refused to let anyone tell him what was going on. He had been busy hanging out with Sarah that no one really thought that they would burden him with the news.
Things at the Simms' home were changing as well. Tyler had moved back home choosing to be there for his parents and most especially his sister. His parents were so glad to have him back in the house. He was glad to be home as well. As much as spending that first couple of weeks on campus meant he had more freedom, he would much rather be with his parents and sister. Knowing that they were safe. He was now sitting in the kitchen with his parents. His mother put her hand on his shoulder. "She'll be okay, honey. We just have to give her time. This is just a rough spot for her."
"I know, mom. It's just I wish I could figure out how to help her. I'm not used to feeling useless, I guess." He said.
"You know sometimes I feel like your mother gave birth to twins instead of adopting. You two are way more connected to each other than we could ever imagine." Glenn said.
"You two were the ones who taught and told me to always make sure that she was safe and protected. That it was my job as a big brother to look out for her. And now I just feel like I've let her down." He said as Rosalind patted his shoulder.
"You didn't let her down, honey. People go through these tough obstacles in life in order to grow stronger. She'll become a stronger person once she's ready to say she's okay. For now, you just keep being her big brother till then. That's all she really needs is the comfort of having her big brother there." Rosalind said as Glenn nodded.
The next day…
During lunch, Tyler noticed that Janessa was nowhere to be found yet again. He looked around the room thinking he might have missed her. Pogue had sat down at the table with him and asked, "Looking for Nessie?"
"Yeah, have you seen her?" He asked.
"Not since English class." Pogue said.
"I'm sure she's just running late. Anyways how have you been, Pogue?" He said looking at Pogue.
"I've been better. Honestly I don't even know what to do with myself. It's like a big part of my heart is missing." Pogue told Tyler.
"Have you talked to Samantha?" Tyler asked.
"Almost every night. But it kills me cause I physically want her to be here. Like I don't even know how much of this I can handle. I know it's only been a few weeks and we've survived so far but that's too much to ask of a person isn't it? Like we've been together for so long and now we're having to work things out long distance wise." Pogue explained.
"Just give it so time, man. I'm sure you guys will make it work. Like you said you've been together for so long." Tyler said.
"Yeah but we've never experienced being separated by how many miles." Pogue said.
"That's true." Tyler said.
"If I'm mess right now, I can just imagine how Nessie's taking this. How is she?" Pogue asked.
"We've seen better days. She's barely eating, she barely comes out of her room and she only gives us one-worded answers. I don't know what to do. I was telling my mom I feel so helpless. Like she doesn't even want to talk to me." Tyler said as Pogue gave him a pat on the back.
"Give her some time man. Like I mean I feel like crap too but that's Nessie's best friend. They've done everything together since they were 5 years old." Pogue said.
"You think you could talk to her? Like letting her know that we care for her and that we're here for her. Or I don't know. I can't handle not speaking to her." Tyler said as Pogue looked at him.
"I don't know how much help I'll be, Ty but I'll talk to her. I'll try and stop by today." He said.
"Thanks, man." Tyler said as Reid and Caleb finally joined the group, "You guys are late."
"Sorry. Sarah wanted me to drop her to class." Caleb said.
"So Sarah and you man?" Pogue asked thankful that they weren't talking about anything depressing.
"Not quite. We're still getting to know each other. We've gone on a couple of dates." Caleb said.
"How was that?" Tyler asked as he looked at the cafeteria doors to see if Janessa was going to come in.
"I thought it went well. She's a really nice girl. We have a lot of things in common. I'm thinking of asking her out soon." He said as the group looked at him.
"Are you sure that's what you want to do? Like you know her enough to want to ask her out?" Tyler asked.
"I just feel a connection towards her. Like she could be the one." He said.
"Well if you're sure then you're sure." Reid said.
"I don't know, Caleb. But you do whatever makes you happy." Pogue said.
"So I've been meaning to ask why haven't any of you guys been answering my text messages." He asked as he looked at them.
"Well I don't know if you've noticed, Caleb but Samantha's not here anymore." Reid said.
"What?" Caleb said looking at them.
Author's note: Are you guys surprised by Caleb's reaction? I know that he and Janessa haven't had much interaction with each other but they soon will. Just you wait and see. I do apologize that these past two chapters seem more rushed than well written. They're mainly filler chapters. I might go back and rewrite them tomorrow. Although this chapter came out the way I kind of wanted it to be. Thank you for all of your amazing reviews! As well as favorites and follows! I'm also thinking of posting this story on wattpad but I wanted to see if any of you guys would follow the story on there? If I don't get many responses for that then I'll just stick to updating on here. Thanks again! 3
