My Life Would Suck Without You
Chapter 11
Since the incident at Nicky's between Caleb and Reid, the boys had kept their distance with each other. Reid was still bitter about Caleb accusing him of using when he hadn't even been using. Caleb kept himself busy by hanging out with Sarah as often as he could. Pogue spent most of his time at the Simms' home. He hated to be home alone and since Caleb had been spending more time with Sarah that meant that Pogue either had two choices to be at the mechanic shop where he worked or be home alone. He would definitely much rather be hanging out with Tyler and Janessa than be home alone.
During the school day, the group minus Caleb would decide what they wanted to do that night unless one of them had plans. Usually it was just to end up back at the Simms' home. Today, they were all still deciding what they wanted to do when they met up in the morning before class. As they made their way to their history class, they walked into the room and decided to all sit near each other. Janessa sat between Tyler and Pogue while Reid sat on Tyler's opposite side. He always preferred to be at the end of the row. Janessa pulled out her notebook so that she could get ready to take notes for class. Pogue looked at her notes and shook his head as she asked, "What?"
"I just don't understand how your notes are so neat and organized. How do you catch everything that our professor is lecturing on?" He asked.
"I read the chapter before I come into class." Janessa said as Reid leaned forward to look at them.
"What she means to say is that she has no life and spends most of her time trying to make the rest of us look bad." Reid said as she laughed.
"I do not try to make you guys look bad. If you tried harder, Reid, you wouldn't be saying that." Janessa said as Tyler and Pogue laughed.
Caleb came into the classroom holding hands with Sarah as Janessa looked on. She felt a twinge of jealousy inside of her but shook her head as he looked down at her notebook. It hurt to even just watch him really be with someone else. This was the first time that she had ever really felt like this. Caleb had never really been so deeply invested in anyone before Sarah so Janessa didn't really see any reason to be jealous. Of course there were girls who wanted Caleb's attention but Caleb was never interested in them.
Caleb looked around the class to find a spot for them to sit in. Normally he was used to sitting next to Pogue so he was surprised to notice that Pogue was sitting next to Janessa and the boys. Pogue looked at him before giving him a nod to acknowledge him. Caleb noticed how Janessa avoided looking at him and rather caught her attention focused on her notebook or planner that was sitting in front of her. Caleb felt himself being pulled in a different direction and realized that Sarah had found them seats that were on the opposite side of the group. He followed her to the seats that she found. Taking a seat, they waited for the professor to begin the lecture. "Are you okay?" He heard Sarah ask.
"Yeah I'm fine." Caleb told her as he gave her a weak smile.
"You sure? You haven't really said much since you swung by my dorm room to get me." She said looking at him.
To be honest, he had a lot of things on his mind that had been bothering him. Since the day that he had found out that Samantha no longer was attending their school to the fight that had taken place at Nicky's. He had a ton of questions that he needed answers for. Why had the group decided to not tell him right away that Samantha had moved away? Or why were they not really speaking to him right now? Sure he could understand that they were upset with him about the altercation at Nicky's but when they were fighting with each other, they usually settled everything by the next day. So it was weird that now the guys had barely spoken to each other.
Caleb also had to admit that he had been wondering why Janessa had become distant with him. He was used to being able to spend time with her when he felt or being there for her when she needed someone to talk to. He wanted to know if he had done something wrong to upset her or to make her feel like she had to become distant with him.
"Well I'm just worried about the group." He said as she looked at the group then back at him.
"What about them?" She asked.
"Usually if we get into a fight, we would resolve the situation that same night and well we haven't fixed anything. I haven't spoken to Reid or Tyler since the incident. I'm also worried that Janessa is avoiding me and I don't know what I did wrong to make her upset or mad at me." Caleb said sighing.
"Why does it matter if Janessa's mad at you? It's not like you two are dating." Sarah said as Caleb looked at her.
"Well Janessa's like my sister. I've always cared about her and I've always been there for her." Caleb said.
"Yeah but she's a big girl and she can take care of herself. I'm sure if you ask her how she's doing, she'd tell you that she's okay." Sarah said.
"But that doesn't mean that I'm still not worried about her." He said as Sarah gave him a questioning look.
"Should I be worried that you're really concerned about her?" She asked.
"No not even. You know what I'll just stop talking about them." He said.
"Good. You have other things to worry about like where we're going for our date tonight." She said giving him a reassuring look.
"Yeah you're right. Let's just have dinner at Nicky's and I'll spend the night in your dorm." He said as she nodded her head.
After class though, Caleb decided to approach Janessa so that they could talk. He waited till Sarah left the room to go to the cafeteria. Tyler and Reid were headed to their next class while Pogue stuck around with Janessa. Caleb had noticed that the two had been very inseparable since the day that he had learned that Samantha moved away. But Caleb had to admit he wasn't surprised at all. The two had always been close since they were little kids. Walking over to them, he asked, "Hey baby girl, do you have a second?"
Janessa and Pogue looked at him. Pogue grabbed his stuff before kissing Janessa on the cheek and whispered, "See you at lunch, baby girl."
"See you later." She said as she slipped her backpack on, "What do you want, Caleb?"
"I just wanted to see how you were doing." Caleb said as she looked at him.
"I'm fine, Caleb." She said as she turned away from him.
Sarah, who had been waiting for Caleb to come out of class, walked back in to see him talking to Janessa. She wondered what was going on. Why were they talking to each other? She thought that she had told Caleb not to worry about Janessa. She felt just a twinge of jealousy inside her. She shook her head and looked away as she couldn't watch. Caleb ran his hand through his hair as he sighed, "Janessa, you know you can tell me anything." He said as she looked back at him.
"I told you I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me." Janessa said.
"Then why do I feel like you're avoiding me?" Caleb asked.
