My Life Would Suck Without You

Chapter 12

"I'm not avoiding you, Caleb. I've just got other things on my mind that I'd rather not burden you with." Janessa said, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for class."

Caleb watched as Janessa made her way out of the classroom looking at Sarah, who happened to be watching on from outside of the room. Caleb sighed before he walked out of the classroom. He jumped back when he saw Sarah standing there. "Jesus, Sarah." He said.

"Sorry. I was just worried something happened to you when you didn't come out after me. Plus I was waiting to see if you were ready to head to our next class." She said as he nodded his head, "Okay good."

She reached for his hand just as Caleb ran his free hand through his hair. He shook his head as Sarah continued to talk to him about the stuff that they had learned in class. He, on the other hand, was busy thinking about what was really going on with Janessa. She had never ever really gotten upset with him before and she didn't technically get upset with him right now. But there was just something about the fact that she wanted to leave the room right away that was beginning to make him wonder. She would never rush to get away from him. But then again maybe he was just overreacting. She was still recovering from the fact that her best friend had moved away just like Reid said. Shaking his head, Caleb focused his attention back on Sarah.

Later that day …

Tyler sat with his sister at their lunch table going over her notes for their AP Biology class. They were learning about coupled reactions. To Janessa, everything in her notes she understood but for her brother, it wasn't simple. Janessa pulled out another sheet of paper so that she could explain the process to her brother. "So coupled reactions are a chemical reaction having a common intermediate in which energy is transferred from one reaction to another. That basically means that in one process there's something that is being given up but is being picked up by another process." She said as she began to write down the words cellular respiration and photosynthesis.

"Oh so what you're saying is that in cellular respiration it gives out light energy plus CO2 plus H2O, which gets picked up during the photosynthesis process." Tyler said as Janessa nodded her head, "Okay that makes sense to me."

"Good I'm glad." Janessa said as Reid took the seat beside her.

"Baby girl, I got a question for you." He said.

"No it's not possible for you to pass your exam without studying." She said as Tyler laughed.

"That was definitely not what I was going to ask but anyways, do you have a date to the Fall Festival?" Reid asked as Tyler shot him a look.

Fall Festival

Janessa stood in her room staring at herself in the mirror. She was dressed in a mini black dress that featured a slit bodice, two-button halter neckline, and a cutout mesh back. Her make-up was simple and natural looking. Her hair was parted down the middle with one side being pinned back and her hair curled. She was getting ready to slip on her black pair of faux leather sandals, which featured a strappy design, zip-up back, and stiletto heel. Tyler knocked on the door and looked at her sister. Yeah she was definitely growing up and he could tell just by looking at her clothing style choices. But no matter how much he didn't like what she was wearing, he still thought that she was beautiful. "You look pretty." He said as she jumped not hearing him knock on the door.

"Tyler!" She screamed turning to look at him as he laughed.

"Sorry I knocked! Just wanted to see if you were ready to go." He said walking over to her bed and sitting on it.

"Almost." She said slipping on her jewelry then grabbing her jacket, "Okay now I'm ready. Can you bring my purse?"

Tyler picked up the purse that sat on the bed before standing up, "Got it."

"Thanks." She said as he handed her the purse, "We picking up Reid?"

"Nope, he's actually meeting us there since it's at school." Tyler said as the two made their way downstairs.

Rosalind and Glenn both waited for their children by the front door. Rosalind was beaming at the sight of their beautiful children ready for their last Fall Festival. She thought that they both looked lovely while Glenn was of course holding back his comments about what Janessa was wearing. As much as he could say something, she was growing up and he needed to let her grow up. He watched as his wife hugged their children before she told them how lovely they both looked. Janessa looked at her dad and smiled before hugging him. "You look beautiful, sweetie." He said kissing her head.

"Thank you, daddy." She said as he let her go.

Tyler hugged their dad before he and Janessa excused themselves to leave for the festival. Tyler led the way to the car and helped his sister into the car before getting into the drivers seat. He started the car and started to drive. A few minutes later, they arrived. Just as Tyler was parking the car, Reid appeared ready to help Janessa out of the car. Once the car engine was turned off, Reid opened Janessa's door and helped her out. "Thank you." Janessa said as she fixed her dress.

"No problem. You look beautiful tonight, baby girl." Reid said as Janessa blushed.

"Keep it to yourself, Reid!" Tyler shouted from the other side of the car and Janessa and Reid laughed.

"Just giving her a compliment, baby boy!" Reid said shutting the passenger door, "Shall we head inside, baby girl?"

"Yeah I'm ready. Are you ready, Ty?" She asked as Tyler nodded appearing by her side.

The trio headed towards the courtyard where Pogue was waiting for them. Pogue couldn't help but smile at the sight of Janessa. Honestly this was definitely a different Janessa then the one they were all used to seeing. But they were all happy for the change. Since coming back from California, she had been through a lot but they had noticed a change in her personality once things had gotten back to normal. She was no longer the shy, quiet, reserved girl. There had been instances where she had stood up for not only herself but for the rest of the guys too. She was coming out of her shell and that was a good thing. Pogue shook hands with the other guys before pulling Janessa in for a tight embrace. "You look stunning, baby girl." He said kissing her head.

"Thank you. You look quite handsome tonight." She said kissing his cheek.

"Thank you. Let's get you inside. It's pretty cold out here." Pogue said as she linked arms with him.

Caleb stood inside with Sarah watching on as everyone was dancing. He sat at their table listening to Kate and Sarah give each other the latest gossip about what was going on around their school. He rolled his eyes as he turned his attention to the entrance doors. He saw Tyler, Reid, and Pogue come in. He hadn't spoken to Reid and Tyler but he wanted to fix that tonight. He smiled at Pogue, who nodded his head at him. His attention fell to the last person to come into the doors. His jaw dropped when she stepped into the room. She looked absolutely breathtaking. He definitely knew something was happening to him because at that moment, he felt his heart racing.
