My Life Would Suck Without You
Chapter 13
Aaron looked towards the entrance and smirked when he saw who was coming in. He couldn't help but feel his jaw drop when he saw the last person come in. He had never expected Janessa to dress or look this hot. He was used to her being more reserved when it came to clothing choices. He would admit that there could be a possibility that he could be interested in her. Kira rolled her eyes in annoyance when she saw the way that Aaron looked at Janessa. Kira had to keep telling herself that Janessa wasn't even that pretty. She probably dressed up like this for attention. "Definitely dressed like a whore." She huffed rolling her eyes.
"I think she looks hot." Aaron said as Kira turned her head away in annoyance.
Janessa stayed close to Pogue as they found a table to sit at. Pogue helped her to her seat before excusing himself so that he could say hi to Caleb. Tyler and Reid sat next to each other on her right side. They both weren't exactly fond of being at these types of things. They would much rather be at Nicky's playing pool or going on an adventure. But this was their last year so they wanted to go all out and experience as much things as they could. Plus they wanted to be there for Janessa as well. Even though things had settled down, they still wanted to make sure that she was okay.
Later on…
After they were done eating dinner, Tyler and Reid excused themselves from Janessa so that they could find some girls to talk to. Pogue had gone back to talking with Caleb. Janessa could see Kate trying to talk to Pogue, who wasn't in the mood to talk to her at all. She smiled to herself. That was the typical Kate. Always wanting Pogue's attention even though, he he had told her he wasn't interested. She just couldn't take no for an answer. "Penny for your thoughts?" She jumped when she heard the question.
Looking up, she found Chase looking down at her and replied, "Just people watching really."
"And do you always people watch at these types of events?" Chase asked.
"Not all the time. Only when the party becomes a little boring." She told him.
"Well let's make it less boring. Care for a dance?" Chase asked offering his hand as a slow song began to play.
Janessa looked back at her brother and Reid then to Pogue. They were all doing okay and they wouldn't mind if she danced with Chase. Looking back up at Chase, who gave her a smile, she nodded her head before taking his hand as he helped her out of her seat. Many couples and those who came with dates made their way towards the dance floor. Chase helped her to the dance floor and wrapped his arms around her waist as she slipped her arms around his neck. They started to sway to the music. Caleb turned his attention to making sure that Janessa was doing okay. He looked at the table that Pogue had been sitting at and realized that Janessa had disappeared from the table. He stood up from his seat just as Pogue and Sarah both looked up at him. "Caleb, is everything okay?" Sarah asked.
Caleb looked down at Sarah giving her a quick nod before turning his attention back to finding where Janessa had gone off too. There were literally a thousand questions running through his mind. What if someone kidnapped her? What if she had left without letting any of them know? What if she was hurt? Looking around, his eyes finally found her on the dance floor dancing with someone that he had least expected her to be dancing with. Why was she dancing with Chase? Pogue stood up and followed Caleb's eyes. His eyes landed on where Janessa was.
"Are you sure everything is okay, Caleb?" Sarah asked becoming somewhat frustrated by the lack of attention that he was giving her.
"Yeah there's just something that I need to take care of. Stay here with Kate." He said.
Pogue patted him on the shoulder before telling him, "Don't do this man. You know you'll only make whatever is going on between you two worse."
Caleb looked at Pogue and muttered, "I don't trust him especially around her."
"You know she'll hate you for this if you come between that." Pogue said as they both turned their attention back to Janessa and Chase.
"Are you insisting that they're a couple?" Caleb asked feeling his blood boil just a little.
"No man, it's not like that. Don't you think she deserves to be a happy, Caleb? She just lost her best friend and he's been a great friend to her. I mean I don't like the guy but look at her. She's happy." Pogue said as Chase leaned down to give Janessa a kiss on the cheek.
Caleb could feel his hands clenching into a fist. Something weird was definitely happening to him. He had never been upset about any guy getting this close to Janessa. Well okay that was a total lie. He had always been protective of her when it came to guys but this time something felt really different. It was like he really wanted to punch Chase in the face. He couldn't understand the feeling at all. What was going on with him? "I need to go outside." He said as he grabbed his coat before heading outside.
Pogue excused himself from the table and followed Caleb. This was definitely strange for him to see Caleb acting like this over some guy dancing with Janessa. It really wasn't a big deal. Although it did bother Pogue too that it was Chase, he still couldn't be upset over that when Janessa looked genuinely happy dancing with him. But he definitely had to wonder why Caleb was starting to become upset about this situation. "Dude, what's really going on?" He asked as Caleb looked at him.
"I honestly don't know, man. I've been getting these really strange feelings whenever Janessa's around. It's like whenever she comes into a room, I have this feeling of just wanting to be in her presence all the time or wanting to be with her now." Caleb started to say.
"Almost like you're beginning to see her in a different light and no longer as a little sister?" Pogue asked raising an eyebrow at him.
Caleb looked at Pogue and blushed before arguing, "No not like that. I don't know how to explain it."
"Dude just admit it, you've finally realized that you're beginning to have feelings for her." Pogue said as Caleb shot him a look.
"It's not like that, man. I just…she's matured more and she's dressing sexier than usual." Caleb said blushing at the thought of Janessa's dress tonight.
Pogue chuckled at the sight of his best friend, "Dude you definitely like her. I can totally tell. You're developing feelings for her."
"Is it wrong for me to develop feelings for her? I've always seen her as my little sister." Caleb said.
"Just admit it out loud that you like her. I'm not gonna judge you at all because I knew it was bound to happen. The girl has had a crush on you since we were little. I'm pretty sure we were all waiting for you to just admit that one of these days you would happen to fall for her too." Pogue said as Caleb looked at him.
"You guys were all expecting me to fall in love with her?" Caleb asked.
"Yeah. That girl is like the sister we never had and I would do anything for her so I just wanna say that you two are way too perfect for each other, Caleb. She like completes you." Pogue said.
"Well what do I do now?" He asked.
"First things first, you gotta admit that you do have feelings for her." Pogue stated as Caleb thought about that.
To be quite honest that may actually be true. Since returning back to Ipswich, things had been different between them. They had begun to drift apart and maybe that had something to do with Caleb suddenly taking a lot of interest in her. Or the fact that he was beginning to become jealous or upset over the fact that she was hanging around other guys, who weren't in her normal group of friends. The way she was dressing and the way she carried herself around now made him realize now that he didn't want her to be with anyone else but him. He knew that made no sense right now since he never made any indication of developing feelings for her. But he knew now that he did want to be with her. That he no longer saw her as the little sister. Looking back to the hall where the dance was, he saw her heading back to the table with Chase. She had a huge smile on her face. He wanted to be the one who put a smile on her face. God what the hell was he saying? Did he really have feelings for Janessa? Thinking long and hard, he realized that he did. "I do have feelings for her. I guess I never realized them because I was pushing them away by trying to get with Sarah." Caleb said as Pogue patted him on the shoulder.
"Glad to see you're finally getting things off your chest." Pogue joked.
Author's Note: I'm so sorry that it took me so long to get the next chapter up. I just started a new job and the transitioning has been rather tough on me. So bear with me on the updates. But I do want to have the next chapter up soon. I hope that you guys liked this chapter. I might end up revising it later on because it seems a little bleh.
