Raven felt foolish using the door to enter her own bedroom. But she was trying to muster up the courage to face the only person who had successfully violated her personal space . She didn't want to think about what took place between them. She didn't want to consider what it meant. She just wanted him out of her room, and the tower – for now. She takes a deep breath and opens the door, half hoping he's already gone. Unfortunately, she finds him on her bed, seeming to wallow. Seeing him in her private quarters, half naked , giving her that lost puppy look – it was all too overwhelming. She gently tossed the sweat shirt and sweat pants to him, doing her best to avoid his gaze. He makes an attempt to joke with her, clearly trying to relieve the obvious tension between these two young adults. "This hasn't ever touched boy wonder's junk has it?" She chuckles, more out of empathy than amusement. But she quickly turns serious. "You should get going." He waits in silence for a moment. She can tell he is waiting for an explanation as to why she's rushing him out of the tower. She doesn't provide one.
He begins to dress himself hastily, growing irritated with their new found tension. It's not that she wanted him gone that was pissing him off, he could completely understand and respect her right to be left alone. It was her cold silence that was getting under his skin. Just twenty minutes ago she was full of emotions toward him, both good and bad. Her caring for him written all over her face as if it were a college lit. class chalkboard. Now, if anyone were on the outside looking in, they'd think he and Raven were complete strangers. He goes for the window, but attempts to talk to her one last time. "Raven, I-" "Jason, I'll come see you soon. I just need a minute okay?" His simply nodded and began to climb out, but she graced him with one final, sweet statement. "My name is Rachel… by the way…" He smiled out of her sight and leaped out.
The walk home was so surreal to Red X . Not just because of what had just happened at the T Tower, but also because he was back in Jump City. When he reached his shack he sprawled out on his dusty old couch, in desperate need of rest. Although he was healed, his body ached for sleep. But his mind wouldn't rest. Raven's - Rachel's – lips kept bombarding his thoughts. He would of considered himself in a blissful state, but other thoughts seeped through too. The entertained look in Jimmy's eyes as his goons broke all the bones in his hands. The fact that he wasn't any closer to being free of his so called dept. His stomach turned. Though his criminal life was, to some extent, a necessity, he always had fun pulling his brilliant thefts. But given his new circumstances, he truly did want to be completely done with that part of his life.
It shocked him, this train of thought. Since his parents untimely deaths, he'd never considered being tied to anyone outside of him self. Especially after what happened to him about five years into being put in the foster care system.
That last thought he instantly forces out of his mind instantly. A dark, cold memory he refuses to let have any life. Back to Raven. The impatience he feels sickens him. You just saw her! But he knew arguing within himself would make no difference. He was stuck on her. His life without her was now unimaginable – and bleak. His eyes grew heavy. Finally rest was upon him. He drifted to a land free of worry and stress. Tomorrow he'd revisit all his troubles. For now, he'll dream sweetly.
It's been two days since Raven saw Jason last. Their moment of entanglement haunted her like a ghost in the night. She was torn completely in half. On one hand, she had to admit to herself, the joy she was filled with when in his presence. He brought something put of her she didn't recognize. A comfort that burrowed deep, something she had never experienced. But the way she had easily melted into his arm when their lips met worried her. How…when… did we get here. She thought back to their first interactions together, after he took an unlikely interest in her and blackmailed her into letting him into her life. She laughed to herself thinking of how ridiculous it was that she didn't just kick his ass and lead him straight to the team to be locked away. This sharp thought made her face a harsh reality she hadn't realized until. He had peaked her interest right then and there. She had chosen him over the trust of her team. Why?
She stopped herself from thinking on it any longer. She made herself meditate instead. Now on the roof of her long time home, she began to levitate and let the outside world melt away. The nothingness that filled her mind was a much needed break from her new reality. After an hour she opened her eyes and took a deep breath. Now centered, she made the decision to face the other thing she'd been thinking on – and also avoiding – talking with Robin. Her feet gently touched the ground and she made her way toward his room, secretly hoping he'd be too preoccupied to have time to speak to her right in this moment. Ever since she gained the ability to shut out the feelings of others, a few years ago, she has opted to do so unless called for in battle. So she genuinely had no idea what his issue was lately. She knew with his up bringing, matched with the responsibility of leader at such a young age, he had serious trust and control issues. Jason's sudden presence in their lives and in their home must be provoking these two traits in him.
She knocks softly on his door. Her mind lapses to a child like state and she almost crosses her fingers, as if it'll make all the difference in him not opening the door. She feels silly at this and begins to smile to herself. That smile quickly fades when she hears the door in front of her swoosh open. Robin stands before her , a look of sweet relief present on the features of his face. "Come in." She walks passed him, without a verbal response to his invitation. She's surprised to see his walls full of personal artwork. She's glad to see his relationship with Starfire hadn't stumped his new found love for the arts. I guess it's not so new found now. She recalls how long it's been since he first knocked on her door to share his secret passions. She had to admit to herself she actually enjoyed discussing such things with him. And now, seeing his drawings on the wall, she had to admit she kind of misses those talks.
She notices the stubbly hair on his cheeks, jaw line, and chin. When did he start growing that? She has to admit it makes him look more distinguished, but it's always hard for Raven to not see the young boy in him – the boy she met an eternity ago. She sits in the chair that's mated with his desk as he makes his way over to his bed. He sits at the end of it and faces her, clasping his hands together. "There's so much…. I mean, I've had a lot…. A lot has been on my mind…. Things I've wanted to say…. For so long." She stares at him dumbfounded. Robin has never been one to keep thought to himself. So what could he possibly be referring too. And then it all falls into place like a puzzle. His odd aggression toward Jason. The longing look in his eyes. His nervousness and stammering speech. She lunges from the her seat. "Richard-" He shivers internally at the formal use of his name. He retorts with her given name but with a soft, pleading tone. She interrupts him, with a pleading tone of her own. "We will not… can not ever have to conversation." Starfire was the first image to pop in her head as Robin's true intentions became clear in her mind. Jason's image was the second. "I'm sorry." She whispers her apology then vanishes into the black abyss. She needed to go see him, now.
