Onee-sama, says Misaka calling her big sister, called Misaka 10031.
"Yes Imouto," she answered immediately from where she was reading as Tabitha practised wandless magic nearby.
Misaka 16283 requests permission to speak with you, says Misaka successfully passing along the message to her big sister.
"Sure, and tell everyone they can speak with me whenever, they don't need permission. Though if Worst has nothing nice to say I'd rather not hear it."
Understood Onee-sama, says Misaka relaying the message to the Misaka network.
Onee-sama, says Misaka worriedly, unsure whether her older sister would be willing to listen, said Misaka 16283 having replaced 10031.
"I'll always listen to you about anything, what is it?"
Misaka is concerned about Louise Vallière's mental state, says Misaka nervously knowing her big sister doesn't like the aforementioned person.
"Go on."
In the old world this Misaka took an interest in psychology, started Misaka relieved big sister is willing to hear her out. Misaka has read many books and completed many online psychology courses explains Misaka so big sister knows Misaka is knowledgeable on the subject. Misaka believes if nothing changes Louise Vallière will commit suicide says Misaka making sure big sister understands the seriousness of the situation.
Mikoto tensed, she may not like Louise but she didn't want her dead. She'd only said what she'd said to Osmond to force him to act and because she was angry. As for getting rid of the runes obedience impulses, killing Louise was an option but it wasn't necessarily the solution. If anything it was a last resort. Both she and Tabitha were researching as much as they could, trying to come up with a alternative solution before her free will was completely taken away.
"What do I do?"
Misaka's relieved big sister is still the same kindhearted person that saved us, says Misaka with a fond undertone.
"I didn't save you, Touma did and can we please not talk about him."
Ok, Misaka agrees knowing the saviour's death still weighs heavily on big sisters mind.
"I'm getting better," Mikoto huffed stubbornly.
You are, Misaka agrees reassured Tabitha is slowly healing big sisters heart.
"Please don't make it sound like we're in love, anyway what should I do about Vallière ?" Mikoto blushed, whilst simultaneously glaring at the page, unaware Tabitha had taken a break and was watching her curiously.
First Misaka believes big sister needs to understand why Misaka thinks Louise Vallière is on the verge of committing suicide, says Misaka preparing to begin her explanation. This worlds magic society is incredibly ignorant about void magic despite Brimir being famous for using it, says Misaka successfully hiding the anger Misaka feels for society's ignorance. Society has bullied Louise Vallière her entire life for being unable to cast a spell unsuited to her magic, explains Misaka silently pitying her. Society's ignorance caused her to develop an inferiority complex, but because she's part of a this worlds nobility she forced herself to be exaggerate their traits, says Misaka silently thinking this worlds mages are stupid. Misaka believes Vallière was relying on the summoning ritual to change society's incorrect assumption on her magical ability, says Misaka understanding her reasoning but still finding her plan flawed.
"But Vallière summoned me and Saito instead of a magical creature like everyone else."
Correct Onee-sama, says Misaka glad big sister understands. From Vallière's perspective Onee-sama abandoned her for Tabitha, says Misaka insinuating big sister is partly to blame.
"She already had a large, gaping wound and by choosing Tabitha over her I essentially chucked a load of salt over it."
Correct, says Misaka glad big sister isn't angry at Misaka's deduction. Saito is a normal human from our original world but in this one he's considered a commoner, explains Misaka knowing big sister will understand what Misaka is trying to say.
"Most mages in this world treat ordinary folk as beneath them to the point they're considered lesser beings. Then there's the fact Saito's from our world, where he's an ordinary teenage boy."
Yes, says Misaka happy big sister's following Misaka's explanation. Saito is not suited to living in this world and Misaka believes Vallière was abusing him as an outlet for her frustrations, explains Misaka knowing big sister has similar problems but usually hurts herself instead of others.
"She was using him as a coping mechanism," Mikoto's eyes widened in realisation.
Then Onee-sama took Saito away, says Misaka knowing big sister didn't realise Vallière's suffering was worse than his.
"By taking him away I've forced Vallière to bottle up her feelings, like she's been doing for nearly her entire life."
That's not all Onee-sama, the summoning ritual summons those most suited to the mage performing the ritual, says Misaka confused as to how it works.
"In other words the 2 people 'fate' believe are most suitable for her have in her mind abandoned her."
Also Misaka does not know Vallière's home situation but believes there is a high probability she's not accepted there, says Misaka struggling to understand how a family can shun a member for being different.
"So it's highly likely Henrietta is one of, if not the only person that truly cares for Vallière."
Misaka understands Onee-sama is afraid of the rune's obedience impulses, but Misaka believes Onee-sama is the only one who can save Vallière, says Misaka pleading for her big sister to help.
"You do know Vallière hates me."
Onee-sama forgave Accelerator.
"Vallière is not me and Accelerator worked extremely hard to redeem himself."
Misaka can see Vallière is similar to big sister and believes that to be a key reason big sister doesn't like her, says Misaka knowing big sister's being illogical.
"She is nothing like me!"
If you say so, says Misaka sighing at her failed attempt to make big sister see the truth.
"So how am I supposed to help Vallière?"
Misaka believes Vallière needs a healthier outlet for her anger, after through research Misaka recommends a punching bag, says Misaka silently trying to convince big sister to use it as well.
"You do realise I don't know the first thing about boxing, right?"
Boxing is unnecessary, says Misaka amazed at big sisters thickheadedness. A punching bag is supposed to be punched, says Misaka as though she was explaining to a child.
"Oi."
Then Onee-sama should help Vallière with her magic, says Misaka knowing this could change society's negative opinion.
"I don't know the first thing about teaching magic!"
Misaka 14021 has suggested meditation, says Misaka thanking 14021 for her contribution.
"Right so find a punching bag and convince Vallière to use it as an outlet for her anger. Next I'm supposed to somehow teach her meditation despite knowing next to nothing about it."
Misaka 14021 has offered her assistance, says Misaka accepting before big sister can refuse.
"...So, punching bag and meditation, anything else."
Misaka thinks it's a good idea to tell Vallière about the obedience impulses, says Misaka mentally preparing herself for a fight.
"No! Absolutely not!"
Misaka understands big sister's reservations but thinks Vallière will be more understanding if big sister explains it to her, says Misaka trying to get big sister to see the logic behind the decision.
Mikoto frowned and clutched the open book harder, unaware Tabitha was standing in front of her waving a hand in front of her face.
"Or she could use it to try and force me to obey her."
Misaka is not suggesting telling her right away, but recommends telling her after using the punching bag, says Misaka wishing big sister would at least consider it.
"And if she does use it to try and control me?"
Misaka would understand if big sister chose to stop helping her, says Misaka regretfully.
"I'll think about it, but no promises."
Thank you Onee-sama, says Misaka confident big sister will be able to save her.
"Yeah, ye-LP" Mikoto yelped immediately returning to reality. Blinking she stared up at Tabitha who was holding a what was essentially an icicle, flushing when she realised what happened. "What was that for?"
"You weren't responding," was Tabitha's monotone reply, as though she hadn't just held a freezing piece of ice against her cheek.
"Oh, sorry."
"What were you thinking about?"
"How to free Vallière from society's chains."
"I thought you didn't like her?"
"I don't, but contrary to popular belief I don't want her dead. That's only a last resort, remember."
"Yes."
"On an unrelated note I hope you created the ice wandlessly."
Tabitha nodded placing the icicle on the desk and holding her hand up, "Ice."
Slowly an icicle materialised in her hand.
"Sweet, when you're done you can move onto wandless and wordless casting. Then you can practice casting from other parts of your body, like turning the ground to ice using your feet or shooting ice behind you. You could even try shaping the ice into more complex shapes like animals or even just everyday tools. Then using the wind you could try and develop a type of sensory perception, wind is everywhere so if you could feel where the wind doesn't flow and use that to tell what and where things are."
"Amazing."
"Yeah, it is amazing."
"No, you."
"Me?"
Tabitha nodded, "You taught me wandless magic, something no one though possible and still have so many ideas how to take my magic further. You're not satisfied with reaching the top, you want to go further, to push the boundaries of what my magic if capable of. Just listening to you makes me wonder, when did we get so complacent? When did we become satisfied simply becoming square class mages? Why did we stop experimenting? or is it that we never even started. I never realised before but as a society we lack ambition, not just Tristain, but Gallia, Albion, Romalia, our whole world lacks ambition. I was told from a young age I couldn't cast magic without a wand or staff, I wasn't given a reason why but I accepted it because everyone else had accepted it. Then you questioned it and gave a logical argument, and you were right. I learned more from you in 20 minutes than I have in an entire year at this school."
"...I haven't taught you anything. You were always able to cast wandless magic but couldn't because society made you believe you couldn't. When I questioned it, you listened and when you tried, somewhere in your mind, in your heart you believed it was possible. You believed I was right. That's why you were able to cast wandless magic. You're the one who's amazing, you believed my words over your entire societies and now you're no longer bound by their misconceptions. You can take your magic further because you shattered millennia of misconceptions about needing a wand. All I did was put the idea in your head, you did the rest."
"You don't give yourself enough credit."
"I give myself what I feel I deserve."
"Are you going to teach Louise wandless magic."
Mikoto nodded, "After getting her a new coping mechanism and improving her control."
"Good luck."
