"You made an exception for me."

What should I say? Castiel wondered as Dean stared at him with an expectant, impatient expression on his face. Did he dare tell him the truth? Was Dean ready to hear that the only reason they saved him was because only he could end what he begun? His brow furrowed. Dean had yet to react favorably to anything he told him. Something warned Castiel he would respond even less so were he to discover he started the apocalypse.

Frustration ruffled his wings. This was not his area of expertise. He was a servant of Heaven. He went where his superiors felt he could be of the most use and do the most good. He was a soldier, really. He fought in the battles Heaven decided needed their involvement.

That was what made his dealings with Dean so complicated. He was no diplomat. He didn't posses Michael's unerring way of defusing tense situations with a single word or look. He also didn't possess Raphael's uncanny ability of saying something without saying anything. Lying simply wasn't his forte. So he said the only thing he could think to say.

"You're different."
