"You do not want me doing this." Dean turned away from him. "I'm telling you that you do not want me going into that room and facing Alistair."
An unnatural need to shuffle his feet came over Castiel. He stifled the urge, as well as his momentary desire to confess how he didn't want Dean doing this. If it had been left up to him, he'd have found someone else. Tried something else. Castiel had no choice, however. His orders were clear. Dean was to do to Alistair what the demon had done to so many.
"Want it? No." Regret caused him to sigh. "But I am told we need it."
Dean remained quiet for several seconds. Castiel figured he was working up to telling him to cram what they wanted and needed in places that the sun wasn't meant to shine. Add that he wasn't in a giving mood. Especially after what happened with the psychic woman he blinded when she spied his true form.
"You ask me to open that door and walk through it." Dean's voice trembled. "And I promise you will not like what walks back out."
Castiel believed him. He believed him with his entire being. Part of him wished he could take this burden off Dean. That he could change places with him. Only, he was not skilled in the ways of torture that Dean was. The man who begins it is the man who must end it.
"For what it's worth," he said quietly. "I would give anything not to have you do this."
And that? That was the absolute truth.
A/N: Hello, all! Hope this finds you well!
