It's short but it's something :) I had to read the previous chapters just to remember OC characters names

Koga's POV

The judge stared at me, extremely pissed at my reason for not going to the station and filling out a report. "So, what you're telling me is... this woman, Sango Higurashi, told you she shot and murdered her ex boyfriend and you don't have any proof or evidence that she actually did it?"
I hesitated as I realized he was right. I never thought about the evidence. Trying to think of something to get out of this, I heard Sango speak.

"Excuse me, your honor?" I looked back at her over my shoulder, seeing the depressed expression. "Would it be alright if I spoke to you without the presence of Detective Ookami?" I looked back at the judge, seeing him thinking over her request. 'What's she trying to pull? Is she trying to get herself in to more trouble?'

"Detective." I slightly jumped as his voice filled the silent court room. "Y - yes?" "Leave us. I will call you back in when we are done." I was not happy with how things were turning out. I had wanted Sango to give me full custody of Aoi and thrown in jail. But no, I just had to mess up completely. No evidence or proof that she really did it meant that she could be lying. I nodded and angrily walked down and out the doors, standing outside the small courthouse.

Sango's POV

I waited a few moments after Koga was gone to speak, finally looking at the man who passed sentence to criminals. "I didn't do it but I refuse to give up who really killed him."

"And why not?" My elder demanded quietly. "Do you wish to go to jail for someone else's crime?"

I didn't want to. I wanted to raise my children even if I was a horrible mother. I shook my head. "No. I want to be with my family but I don't want someone that that person holds dear to her to feel like she's all alone when she isn't."

"But how will your family take it?" I could hear the disappointment in his voice. "Won't they feel betrayed?"

I imagined my daughters crying, saying they hated me for protecting Inuyasha; Kagome, grateful and ashamed that her fiancé was free while I had taken his place; Miroku and the rest, all pissed off. I gave a sad laugh. "I know how they'll act. I know they might feel a bit hateful towards me. But they - no matter what things they say - will still love me." I shook off the pain quickly, wanting to get to the last part of our talk. I stood straight, determination in my brown eyes. "May I ask for a request?" The judge gave a hesitant nod, obviously still not happy that I was protecting the real killer. "I have two daughters; the youngest, Aoi Higurashi, is Koga Ookami's; and my oldest, Satomi Higurashi, is my ex boyfriend's, Miroku Yamabushi's."

It seemed I had shocked him from the way his mouth nearly dropped. "So you would like to give your daughters to their respective fathers?" Once again, I shook my head. "No, your honor. I wish to give Miroku Yamabushi custody over both of them." I surprised the judge again. "And why is that? Is Mr. Ookami not responsible enough?"

"You may not believe me when I say this, but, he sort of used me and my sisters to get what he wanted. I don't want revenge or anything like that. He didn't get what he wanted from my sisters but he got it from me. That 'it' being Aoi. If you would like to speak to my sisters, you may. But I know Miroku would give my daughters a better life than I ever hope to. And if I know Koga, he would do anything to keep her away from her sister."

"I'll consider it. Also, I would like to speak to your sisters." I was glad he was going to think about it but I didn't get my hopes up. "Thank you, your honor." I bowed slightly. I heard him yell for Koga, who nearly ran back in. The judge wasn't looking at me anymore. He was staring at Koga again. "Release Ms. Higurashi until you have actual proof. I will be reporting your incompetence to your superior."

Koga's POV

I was pissed that I had to free the woman who had full custody of my daughter. I removed Sango's handcuffs and shoved her phone into her hand. "I will get my daughter." I hissed, forgetting I was still in the presence of a high authority. She didn't give a cocky smile like she had won something. In fact, she didn't even give a smile. She just glanced at me before heading out the door, leaving me alone with the judge.

"Mr. Ookami." I swallowed, remembering how I had spoken to Sango not moments ago. I watched worriedly as he wrote something on his usual parchment. "Give this to your superior." He wrote a bit more before placing the pen down and folding the paper twice. I followed his movements as he stood from his chair and handed it to me in an envelope. "What is this, your honor?" I received a dead panned look. "A piece of paper for your boss." "I can see that, but, what's it about? If I may ask?"

He was expressionless as he said "Your stupidity and how you didn't follow protocol." 'Oh shit...' I was in some deep shit now. Not only because I had arrested Sango without actual evidence but also because I wanted custody of Aoi to the point of getting rid of her mother. But no one knew that. Or at least I hoped no one did. When Aoi had been born, I was glad but realized months later I couldn't handle children. Especially Satomi. She was only two when I met her and I could see Sango was having a hard time with her. She would throw random temper tantrums when she felt like it, cry when her mother wasn't paying attention to her, and scream just to make her sister cry.
When I told Sango I couldn't do it anymore, she demanded full custody. And in court, I didn't even fight for at least some rights to see Aoi. Now, six years later, I want full custody of my daughter. I can't blame Sango for it. I could tell, though, when I marched in to the hospital, how horrible she looked. If I had stayed and helped take care of her kids, she most likely wouldn't be in this position.

Sango's POV

The moment I stepped outside, I called Inuyasha. It turns out he had just been getting out of the vehicle when I told him I was free to go due to the lack of evidence and needed picked up. He said he was still turning himself in. I sighed and explained to him what had happened after Koga had arrested me and he was not happy. All I could do now was wait on the steps for him to pick me up.

Yamabushi - a warrior monk (actually suits Miroku in the anime, doesn't it?)
