CHAPTER 56 ~ Pennsylvania

I DO NOT OWN THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

Pennsylvania.

Maddie couldn't believe she was really here. It was crazy to think that she had just been in Virginia and now she was here. Of course, she was here for a reason but she was just glad that she had made it safely. The minute she got to her destination, a hotel near the University of Pennsylvania. That was where she had told her parents she was going. To visit again. She had convinced them to let her go on her own. That way she wasn't persuaded by their opinions of the school and she could make her own decisions. Although it was really just a bullshit excuse to get away from home. Although she did have a tour date scheduled she wasn't sure if she was going to actually attend. She was just here because she had enough and wanted to see Elijah. Besides it was the weekend so it was easier for her to get away. After parking her car, she got out, going to the backseat to get her belongings together. She had packed one bag but it was pretty heavy. She had brought along her clothes and her laptop that way if she had any free time she could get some homework done. She didn't expect to arrive home until later Sunday night.

The minute she entered the house she went to the concierge desk. The man behind the desk gave her a warm smile, "Hello."

"Hi. I'm looking for a room key. Should be under Elijah Mikaelson."

"And your name is?"

"Maddison," she pulled out her ID. She had known in advance that Elijah would most likely use her full name. He loved to use it and they both knew it.

"Okay Ms. Bennet," he slid a card over to her, "here is your room key. Enjoy your stay."

"I will, thanks."

Grabbing the key, she hurried towards the elevator. On her way up she checked through her messages to see what the room number would be again. Her heart began to pound a tad faster. She was excited. A weekend with Elijah and away from home. Of course, they had travelled to New York together before but it felt like it had been so long ago. She was just excited to have the chance to get away.

The minute the elevator doors opened she practically ran out, looking at each door. She stopped when she got to the one she was looking for. 611. With a smirk on her face she inserted the key. A click was made and a green light appeared. Taking the key out she quickly opened the door, allowing herself to walk in. She dropped her bag by a chair in the room and looked around. The hotel was beautiful. There was a huge bed, a flat screen, a fridge, balcony view and she noted the nice tub that was in the bathroom.

"You're late."

A small smile came to her face as she spun around on her heel, "Am I?"

Elijah, who stood across from her in a dress shirt and dress pants gave her a small smile, "Yes."

"Well it's not really my fault."

"It's not?"

"Nope," she popped the P. "You see since I drove all the way from Virginia to Pennsylvania I couldn't really determine all of the traffic there might or might not be. So, I completely winged it."

"Right," Elijah stepped closer to her, "I'm just glad you made it safely."

She placed her hands on either side of his face, raising herself slightly onto her tippy toes, "Me too."

"You know I'm a tad shocked."

"About what exactly?"

"That you don't have some extravagant hotel room," she raised her head from his chest. "Not that this room isn't nice but it's just ordinary."

"I'm a simple man. Flashy is more of Niklaus' style."

"I'm sure." She put her head back down, "Care to explain to me why you're still here? And before you get defensive I don't want to fight I am just curious."

"I'm supposed to meet Katerina tomorrow for the cure."

She was glad she was looking away from him. She didn't want him to see the hope that flashed in her eyes, "And then that's it?" There was a short pause, "And then you are done with her? No more Katherine."

"Correct."

She turned to face him, "I would be lying if I said that wasn't music to my ears."

Elijah chuckled before he kissed her cheek, "How have you been?"

She gave a small shrug, "Fine."

"School?"

"Almost over. If someone would have told me that the year would go by this fast I would have laughed. It's crazy to think that it's all almost over."

"Ah yes, your graduation is coming."

She grinned, "And prom."

"You're excited for prom?"

"Of course I am excited! I mean I'm not crazy about getting all dolled up all of the time but prom is always fun. I still haven't found a dress yet though."

"I'm sure that you will find something you love." He cupped her face, "No matter though. Whatever you wear you will look magnificent."

She moved her face closer to his, "Are you trying to charm your way into my pants?"

"Considering all you have on is my shirt and your undergarments that question is invalid."

Her smirk got wider, "My mistake. So are you trying to charm off the only means of clothing that I currently have on."

Elijah moved them quickly. She was now flat on her back against the mattress and he was on top of her. In the process her shirt had ridden up and her panties were now exposed to him. Not breaking eye contact he moved his hand so it was now over her covered center.

He leaned his head down to her lips as he said, "If that's what you want."

"That is what I want."

"Well then," his hands moved her panties to the side, "who am I to argue."

"OH!" She moaned as his fingers began to play with her most sensitive area. "More, please."

"We have to get out of bed."

Maddie looked up at Elijah. Getting out of bed was the very last thing that she wanted to do. She wanted to stay right there in bed cuddled up next to him. He had to meet Katherine for the cure at two and Maddie was scheduled to be at UPenn around two thirty. She still wasn't sure if she was going to go or not. She figured she would just to get another look around the campus.

She groaned into his chest, "No. Let's just stay here all day and sleep."

He chuckled, "You have a tour."

"I've already seen the campus," she moved slightly so that she could get a better look of him, "so it's kind of optional."

He smirked, leaning up to kiss her lips, "You're going."

"Bossy."

"You love it."

She nodded, "That I do. Shower with me?"

"As much as I would love that we would never leave this room, which I am sure you already know."

She smirked, "Well can't blame a girl for trying."

With a groan she rolled out from under the covers. The slightly cold air hit her naked body. She was just wanted to get right back in bed with him. Turning her head slightly she could see that he was watching her. His eyes roamed over the back of her body. She turned her head back around heading towards the bathroom. She made sure to have a slightly sway in her hips.

While she showered she hoped that he would slip inside with her. He didn't though. She knew for the most part that was for the best. Had he gotten into the shower with her she would have made sure they stayed in the hotel room. Leaving would not have even been an option. Wrapping herself up in a towel she walked back into the room. When she was out Elijah passed her going in shirtless. She sucked her bottom lip. His body was a gift.

Going over to her bag Maddie looked through the clothes that she had inside. She slipped into her bra with the matching panties. She was going to change into her outfit when she heard Elijah's phone ringing. With a frown she went over to it. It was laying on the dresser on his side of the bed. Picking it up the phone immediately flashed coming to life. The name Katerina was quickly displayed along with the text message symbol next to her name. She didn't even hesitate before she opened up the message.

Katerina – I can't wait to see you.

A frown immediately came over her face. I can't wait to see you kept running through her head. The only thing that Katherine should have been excited for was giving the cure to Elijah so that Klaus would finally lay off of her. Of course, no one knew if Elijah would even give the cure to Klaus since Rebekah wanted it as well, but that was a completely different story. She didn't appreciate Katherine texting Elijah, as if something was going on between the two of them. The frown that was on her face deepened. She began to wonder if something was happening between the two of them before she quickly dismissed the thoughts. Elijah wouldn't do that to her. He was a loyal and honorable man.

When she heard the door to the bathroom opening up she wen to put the phone back down but not before Elijah had already come out. He had a towel around his waist, tiny water droplets were dripping down his body.

"Someone call me?"

"Text actually."

He immediately noticed how hostile her tone was and the frown that was engraved on her face, "What's the matter?"

"Your ex Katherine can't wait to see you," she spat.

"Katerina is being …," there was a slightly pause, "herself."

"A manipulative little slut that sleeps with whomever she needs to get what she wants you mean."

Elijah frowned, "Don't say that."

Her frown turned into a full glare, "Why are you defending her?!" She hadn't meant to yell but she had.

"Can we not do this today?"

"Yes, we are doing this today!"

He sighed, walking over to the dresser in which he placed his clothes. She watched him sort through the dresser but that didn't stop her from walking up behind him. The minute he turned back around, facing her, she took in a slight deep breath. His smell was like a drug to her. She loved it. She snapped herself out of it immediately remembering that she was upset with him right now.

"If she really wanted to give you the cure she would have done it by now already. She wants something from you. She probably wants you. Just tell her to drop it off and you will tell Klaus and then call her with the results."

"You speak as if this is a business arrangement."

She raised an eyebrow, "Isn't it?"

He cupped her face, "You have nothing to worry about. Nothing is going to happen between Katerina and I." He made a move and walked past her slightly so that he was now facing the bed.

"Fine!" She snapped. "Fine! If you are going to meet your precious Katherina," she spat the name, "against my better judgment then I can't stop you because you are a grown ass man and will do what you want." Elijah turned back around his face was impassive. She suddenly smirked, "But what I can do is make it known that you are taken."

"Katerina knows that nothing will happen between she and myself."

"Elijah," she walked closer to him and stopped when she was directly standing in front of him, "Shut up."

Her hands immediately went to his chest as she pushed him onto the bed. If he was shocked by her actions it didn't really show. Not wasting anytime, she jumped on top of him, straddling him with her waist before she let her lips connect with his. She didn't let him win in this kiss. She made sure that her tongue dominated his and he let her do as she pleased. When she had enough she pulled away moving to his neck. She wasted on time sucking on his pulse. She wasn't sure how long she did it for but when she finally pulled away a grin was on her face.

"I have to say," she murmured not even bothering to look at him, "I am impressed with my handiwork." The huge hickey that now resided on her neck made her feel contempt in a small way.

"License, check. Wallet, check. Bag, check."

Maddie looked around the hotel room one more time, making sure she had her stuff. Even though she was supposed to come back she just felt better with her bag in her car. Especially since it had her laptop inside. Looking over the room one more time her eyes zoned in on the cell phone that lay on the in table. It was Elijah's. After she had opened Katherine's message and put it back there he hadn't taken it. Walking over she grabbed it. She figured she would just drop it off to him since she had time and he had already told her the exact location he was meeting her. She had put the location into her phone before and it wasn't too far from UPenn.

She caught site of the gazebo where Elijah was meeting Katherine as she was driving. A frown came upon her face the minute she spotted Katherine. Even though her back was turned she knew it was her. She then noticed Elijah approach her. Pulling up she quickly turned off the car and got out, Elijah's clutched in her hand.

She kept her eyes on the two of them as she walked up. A slight frown came to her face when she noticed Elijah walk closer to Katherine so that she was now directly in front of him. And from the looks of it there was no cure being exchanged. She shook her head. Elijah knew exactly what he was doing. She was just going to have to trust him.

She did trust him.

It was in that moment that Katherine looked up and spotted her. She had a full view of her actually as she walked up to the two of them. With a wicked smile on her face Katherine closed the already small gap, at least in Maddie's opinion, that was between her and Elijah, placing her hands on his shoulders before moving her face in. Like she was going to kiss him. Maddie came to a full stop. Her mouth opened slightly, forming into a tiny O shape. Before she could even process what she was doing she hurled his phone, that was in her hand, to the ground. Elijah immediately spun around and Katherine's grin stayed put on her face.

"You have to be fucking kidding me!" Maddie seethed. There was a fire in her eye as she glared over at Elijah.

"Maddie, I can assure you that this isn't what it looks like."

"Yeah, sure!" She began to turn around but Elijah was already directly in front of her. "I don't want to hear it," she noted. "I have an appointment."

"I wasn't going to let Elena kiss me."

Elena? She glanced back over. The grin on Katherine, or Elena's face, whichever one it was, only got wider. She looked back away at Elijah. She had known that he didn't initiate it but what bothered her was the fact that he didn't pull away from her fast enough. At least not as fast as she would have liked.

Katherine, or Elena stared at Elijah, "Wow. I didn't think you would be able to tell the difference between us. Guess I was wrong."

"I mean you both have one thing in common," Maddie said glaring at Elena.

"And what's that?"

"You are both sluts!" She growled before looking back to Elijah, "I don't see the cure anywhere and I am guessing you aren't going to either. No matter, I'll leave you to your precious doppelganger."

He grabbed her arm before she could get to far, "We need to talk."

She immediately pulled away from his grasp, "Not right now we don't."

She didn't turn back around the whole way to the car. Getting in she slammed her door and started it before she made her way to UPenn. The whole ride there she was practically seething. She couldn't believe Elijah. While they hadn't actually kissed he hadn't pulled away quick enough. And it's not like he didn't have the ability to. It made her question whether or not Elijah wanted her to kiss him. But he had called Elena out for not being Katherine. So maybe he was just playing along. Whatever it was she didn't like it. It infuriated her to no end.

Even as she walked to UPenn's admission's office she was seething. When she saw the lady sitting behind the desk she had to remember where she was, putting a smile on her face. "Good afternoon."

She kept the smile on, "Hi."

"Are you here for the tour?"

She nodded, "Yes. Maddison Lynn Bennett."

The woman nodded before sliding a folder over to her. Maddie could see all of the papers inside, "You can wait with the others through that door," she pointed, "refreshments are inside. The tour will begin shortly."

"Thank you."

She had finally found it.

A Starbucks shop.

After looking around UPenn again she made it her mission to go find a Starbucks shop. She had been craving and it had taken her forever to find one since she wasn't familiar with the town. The minute she had seen their logo sign hanging up in a shopping plaza her heart just about skipped a beat. She sat inside while she drank her refresher, looking over the papers that UPenn had given her. Although it was nice she still didn't think she was going to go. Besides, she hadn't even gotten an acceptance letter from them yet and North Carolina would be sending over her financial aid package soon. If it checked out she was ready to commit.

Going back to her car she was prepared to head out and go back home. She had her phone turned off. Elijah had called her twice while she was at UPenn and she didn't want to talk to him. She hadn't cared how childish she was being. She was pissed. And he was majorly to blame for that. The minute her phone turned back on it began vibrating like crazy. It didn't stop until two full minutes later. She was prepared to read whatever texts he had sent her when his face appeared on the screen. He was calling.

"What?" She asked, answering on the third ring.

"Where are you?"

"Why do you care?"

She heard in take in a deep breath, "We need to talk about what happened."

"Oh, you mean Katherine or Elena, or whatever, trying to kiss you and you just standing there."

"I wasn't going to let her kiss me."

"Didn't look like it to me."

"If you would tell me where you are we could talk like adults."

"And how many times have I wanted to talk like adults when you have avoided me?" It sounded like a growl as she spoke to him. "I think it's best you give me space and I will give you the same. At least for right now."

"Maddison, I don't want you wandering around this town alone."

She looked out of her car window. A sign catching her attention, it read:

PROM DRESSES, SALE.

Not wasting any time she made a grab for her wallet before getting out of the car, "I will be fine. I'm going to hang up on you now."

"Maddison, I'm telling you right now-," he didn't get a chance to finish since she cut him off.

"Goodbye."

With a grin on her face she made her way into the store that was filled with dresses.

All the way back to her car Maddie had a grin on her face. She had one less thing to now worry about. A prom dress. That was all covered. She had been in the store for at least two and a half hours looking and trying on different dresses. Part of the reason being she had been texting her mom, Cordelia, Katie and Hanna while she was in there, sending them a whole bunch of pictures. Finally, she had found the perfect dress. And now she was ready to go home.

It was time for her to get back to Mystic Falls.

Thank you all so much for reading! Your support is so appreciated. Technically in the show I'm already at prom but in my writing I'm like two months away from it so it probably won't come up for another couple of chapters. I will also be having her go to new Orleans before she goes to prom.

Also, just to be clear no kiss actually happened. Elena leaned in and she was going to kiss Elijah to make Maddie upset but Maddie busted Elijah's phone by dropping it to the ground before anything could take place. Again, thanks for reading.

In this chapter … Maddie goes to Pennsylvania to see Elijah. She see's something that she doesn't like. She gets a prom dress.

Next chapter … Maddie and her mom spend time together.
