Chapter 4

Welcome Home

A week had passed since the accident. The man had recovered a lot during this time. All his blood reports were normal, and he was back on his feet. Much to Kagome's relief, he was to be discharged today but the only thing that continued to gnaw her conscience was his amnesia. Not only could he not remember the accident, but remembering his name and address also seemed to be impossible for him now.

"Where will he go now, Sango?" Kagome turned to her best friend with concern and anxiety marring her features.

"Well we surely cannot abandon him."

"How about he stays at my house for the time being?" The cerulean eyed female offered after pondering for a minute.

Sango was clearly not happy with this suggestion.

"Are you out of your mind, Kags!?" she chastised the other female. "How can you allow a stranger to come and live with you?"

Kagome was not surprised by Sango's outburst. Her friend did have a fair point but she could not see any other option laid before her at the moment.

"Do you have any other bright idea?"

"Any idea would be better than this idea!" Sango retorted hotly. "Who is to say that he bears no ill will towards you?" she continued, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration.

Dealing with Kagome was not easy; especially not when her friend's mind is guilt-ridden to the point where she would leave no stones unturned to set things right and come out with a clean conscience.

"Seriously, Sango? A person who barely managed to survive an accident and who cannot even remember his own name would want to harm me?" Kagome questioned with disbelief fogging her eyes. "I am responsible for his current condition," she continued, "and I want to see the end of it until he fully recovers." Kagome crossed her hands, challenging Sango to deter her from her decision.

The said female sighed. She knew that anything she would say now would be pointless.

"Talking to you is like talking to the wall."

Kagome smiled brightly. She had won the case.

"Yes!" she rejoiced. "Thank you, Sango for understanding me."

"Idiot. Your kindness would be the downfall of you someday," the brunette chastised gently, giving her friend a warm hug.

"Please see to it that this gentleman gets maximum rest," the doctor instructed Kagome who was listening with utmost attention. Meanwhile, Sango completed the paper work and called out for her to bring the said man to the car. Kagome wasted no time and politely excused herself, promising to follow the doctor's words to the tee and carefully pushed the wheelchair with the man out to the car whose expression clearly showed that he was on his limit and desperately wanted to leave the hospital premises.

"I can look after myself from here," he said once they were out of the hospital gates with a thick voice, catching the attention of the two females. "I cannot thank you enough for whatever you have done for me so far."

Kagome winced and bit her lower lip, guilt starting to rush through her body.

"Do you have some place in mind to go from here?" This time it was Sango who spoke up. "So do we take it that you have regained all your memories?" she asked, suspicion lacing her words.

Something about this man did not sit well with her. She could not exactly point on what actually that was bothering her but it never hurt to remain extra cautious.

"Sango!" Kagome shushed her friend with a nudge.

"Sir, do you perhaps remember something?" she asked gently to the person sitting in the wheelchair whose face remained stoic as always.

Her heart started to beat rapidly and she found herself beaming with new found hope. 'Perhaps, the damage is not that severe,' she thought.

But it was short-lived when the dark-haired male slowly shook his head.

"No, I cannot recall anything," he said pinching the bridge of his nose.

Gulping audibly and taking a deep breath, Kagome bent down on her knees until she was at eye-level with the chocolate orbed male.

"Until you regain your memories, please come and live in my place?" she said, a warm smile adorning her face.

"I do not want to burden y-"

"I insist!" she cut off the male, desperation clearly visible on her face. The last thing she would feel was burdened. She was clearly at fault here and she had no right to complain.

After pondering for a minute, the man acquiesced, making the raven-haired female beam in happiness.

Sango huffed as she saw Kagome carefully helping the man get into the car.

"I hope she does not regret this later," she muttered to herself before getting into the passenger seat and ordering the chauffer to drive out of the hospital to Kagome's residence.

"Is he apt for this job?" Mr. Higurashi asked his assistant as his eyes scanned through a resume.

"Absolutely, sir."

"I want only the best for my daughter, Peter" he continued. "I cannot compromise with her safety. I have made a mistake once."

"I assure you he is the best," his assistant, Peter replied with confidence. "With him by Miss's side, no harm can touch even her hair."

"Very well, then."

Placing the resume back on the table, Mr. Higurashi stared at the amber eyes of the man in the picture, which promised confidence and power.

"I want him to join at the earliest."

"Please feel at home," the model cum soon-to-be-actress said as she and Sango helped the injured man to his bed.

"Thank you," he replied courteously.

His dark orbs scanned the room. It was spacious, cosy and reeked of luxury. Whoever's house he was currently residing in, that person seemed to be quite well-off, he thought.

Eyeing his actions, Sango questioned sternly, "Is the room to your liking?"

That made Kagome look up to the man expectantly and she sighed in relief when she was replied with a nod.

"A little too extravagant, to be honest." He added, taking in the expensive looking curtains and furniture that decorated the room.

"Well my Kagome has always been spendthrift- OW!" the brunette squealed, rubbing her sore arm where she was pinched by a now blushing Kagome.

"Kagome?" the man asked curiously.

"Oh, how rude of me to not introduce myself sooner. I am Kagome Higurashi and she is Sango Tan, my best friend and manager."

"Manager?"

"Kagome happens to be a model and an actress, and they all need managers," Sango filled in.

"Well, I am sorry but I cannot really recall whether I am a fan or not," the man shrugged nonchalantly, causing Kagome to flinch.

"We will see to it that this problem gets fixed at the earliest," she promised.

Seeing the man raise his eyebrow at her words, Kagome blushed and quickly clarified, "I-I mean bring your memory back and n-not make you my fan or anything."

Her actions made Sango snort which earned her an elbow from the blushing female.

"OW!"

"Shush."

"So we need to give him a name since he will be staying with us for a while."

"That's right!" Kagome exclaimed. "Think of a name."

"How about Jaken?" Sango offered.

The cerulean eyed female scrunched her face in disgust. "Eew no! That name makes me think of a toad."

"A toad?" Sango huffed while a certain male sighed in relief. Somehow, he did not like the name either.

'Note to self: Never let Sango name my future kids,' Kagome made a mental note.

An hour and a hundred of rejected suggestions later, the exasperated brunette gave up.

"Ugh! You think of one then!"

"How about Inuyasha?" Kagome chirped after pondering for a minute.

"Seriously? Dog demon?" Sango asked ludicrously.

"I like it," the dark-haired male remarked with a ghost of a smile adorning his handsome face, earning himself a bright smile from the raven-haired female and a gawk from her best friend.

"Welcome home, Inuyasha." Kagome rejoiced while Sango facepalmed.

"Any update on Red, Tsu?" Naraku's voice echoed through the room whose silence was occasionally disturbed by the sound of his fingers tapping on the table.

"According to the latest report," the said male began, his short form cowering before the piercing gaze of his boss. "It is only a matter of time before the mission gets accomplished."

Hearing those words, Naraku's lips broke into an evil smile which made Tsu shiver to the bone.
