Hey! I know it's been literally years since my last update, but I hope some of you are still out there, I know this chapter is a little short but I'll try to write more often
¿Who are you?
Cornelia's POV
I was dead, that was the only logical explanation, not even my worst nightmare could compare to this, I just saw how a crazy man took my baby away from me and I couldn't do a thing, and the worst part was that I couldn´t tell Caleb what was happening. I decided that I would do whatever I could to protect my son, after all I was able to touch him minutes ago, and I was sure he could see me, so I went to the door and tried to opened it, as it was expected I couldn´t touch it but, as I saw in many movies I could walk through it, it was a strange sensation but I didn't let that feeling distract me from my mission, I was going to find my Alex.
Caleb's POV
A day had passed since the last time I saw Cornelia, not that I didn't want to be with her but I was busy trying to find some clue of Alex's whereabouts, right now I was at Kandrakar, waiting for the Oracle. Elyon and the WITCH girls came with me, while my father stayed with Cornelia´s family at the hospital, and they would call me to let me know how she was, that was the only way I could leave her side.
"Don't you think he's taking way too long?" said Hay Lin
"Yeah, but don't forget that we came without invitation, he is a busy man and we gave him more work" said Taranee
"He can be busy and all he wants. But we are talking about one of the Guardians, we are his best employees, he must take some time to help us" said Irma
"And I certainly do, dear water guardian" came the Oracle's voice from behind us.
"Oracle! Did you find something about my son?" I asked him, we have spent the whole day in Kandrakar and my nerves couldn't take this tension any longer.
"I can't locate the exact place where he is but I can tell you he is at Terzan, and about Cornelia, there is nothing I can do to help her, I wish I could but I talked to the elders and almost all of them accord that we can´t intervene" he said with a sad look.
"What do you mean when you say you can´t? You are the Oracle, you can do as you please!" said Elyon, and I secretly thanked her for saying what I wanted to say.
"I'm sorry your majesty, but even as the Oracle I can´t pass over the Conceal, I promise that I'll try to convince them, and I'll do anything in my power to help you, but now, there´s nothing more I can do, you should leave now, I'll inform you if I find something more" said the Oracle and left, leaving us in silence.
"I think we should go to Earth, we need to rest and start planning a way to find Alex, at least we know he's at Terzan" said Taranee, and we all agreed, Elyon opened a fold and we arrived to the Hale's house in Italy, it was already night so I hoped to find good news about Cornelia's health.
Elyon and Taranee decided to go to Meridian and make some research about Terzan, Matt arrived today so Will and Irma went to the airport to get him, and Hay Lin and I went to the hospital, where Harold and my father were waiting for us.
When we arrived my father immediately stood up while Harold remained on his chair with his face between his hands, this couldn't be a good thing.
"What's wrong?" was the first thing I said, and for my father's look something was really, really wrong.
"Did you find something about Alex?" said my father.
"Don't try to distract me, how is Cornelia?" I demanded
"Son… you need to be strong…"
"Is she… dead?" was the first thing Hay Lin said, Harold looked up and I saw it in his eyes.
Cornelia's POV
It didn't take me long to find the mysterious man with my baby, I had spent at least 3 hours just watching him read, I tried to read over his shoulder but I couldn't understand the language, so I decided to just stay away from him and wait beside the cradle he had put Alex into.
As I said before, Alex was really thin, I wanted to take him in my arms and run away, but I discovered that the only thing I could really touch was Alex, so run away wasn´t an option and, to make things worse, I had absolutely no idea of where we were.
I saw the man standing and I felt the need to hide, even though I knew he couldn't see me, he approached to us and I detailed his face, he was pale, paler than any person I have ever seen, he had delicate features, his cheek bones were prominent and his eyes were a dark blue, he was tall and his black coat made him look like a ghost. He took Alex in his arms and murmur something I didn't understand in his ear, then he started walking away from me and I followed him to the next room.
This room was a lot different from the one we were before, it was really alike to the room we first met the Mage/Nerissa, it even had a waterfall in it and it gave you a feeling of peace so, even when I knew everything was out of control I couldn't help but feel a little bit relieved, but only a little bit.
"How much longer do I have to wait?" Said Nerissa storming into the room
"Not that much dear Nerissa, in a couple of days the three Terzan's moons will be on position and the ritual will begin" said the man
"I hope so, I'm getting bored"
"Well, you don't have to stay here all the time, you can go and do what you want out there with the only condition to be here when I call you" he said and give her his back so I could see his face
"And what are you doing with the baby?" said Nerissa
"Do you really care?" he said with a half-smile "Well, I'll just have him sleeping until the ritual begins, he doesn't need to suffer more than necessary"
"Won't you feed him?" said she and I noticed concern in her voice.
"It's not necessary, he needs to be alive, nothing more" he said, and with a movement of his hand a crib appeared, he put Alex there and turned around.
"Do you need something more Nerissa?" he asked when he noticed that witch was still there.
"I want to learn details about what's going to happen, what are we going to do with the baby?"
"We need to extract his scent, that's where all the power he has inherit is and, as is obvious, the baby cannot live without his scent so he will die after that, you don't need to know more details, now go" he said and turned his back to her again.
"But I want to know why" she said in a really strange tone
"Why what?"
"Why are you doing this, who are you?" For once in her life she said something important, if I could figure out a way to tell Caleb this information, maybe he will rescue our son.
"You are so eager for information now that I have to ask, why do you care?"
"Is my grandson we are talking about, and even if I don't feel anything for him, I'd like to know why do you want his power, you know my reasons so I want to know yours" as she said that I went to Alex and took his hand, it was terrible to know that he wasn't going to wake up, and to hear Nerissa talking so easily about his death made me hate her even more.
"I don't usually give explanations but I suppose I can try, but I won't give any details, I'm way too old to do something I don't want to" he paused for a few seconds and then began to speak "First of all you must know, as I just said seconds ago, is that I am really an old man, I was born more than 300 years ago, in the beautiful world of Terzan, I was of a noble family so I grew up with all the commodities a noble deserved, my father was the most respected sorcerer of the kingdom and my mother a lady of the court. I was an only child that lived quite far from the capital so most of my time I spent alone in the library, I wanted to be a great sorcerer as my father, and I was born with magic just like him. I grew up to be the principal sorcerer of the kingdom when my father died, my mother followed him after only two weeks so I was alone and decided to do my job the best I could, to honour them." He made a pause and it was as if he was lost in his memories, so far with his story I couldn't understand what made him this evil baby killer.
"And…" said Nerissa
"Well, long story short, a young sorcerer appeared, he claimed to be better than me, and somehow made his way to the hearts of the royal family, even today I don't even know where his magic came from, the problem is that not only he got my place among the royals, but he tricked them and convinced them that they should start wars against other kingdoms, and in the end, summoned Terzan into darkness. I suppose it doesn't compare to what Phobos did to Meridian, but he destroyed everything my family and I believed, the royal family became cruel and people suffered" He said and they stayed silent for some minutes, as before, I couldn't understand why he wanted the power of my son, he looked like a tormented, sad man, and I couldn't find evilness in his eyes.
"And that's it? You know you can't change the past, there´s nothing you can do about it" said Nerissa
"And that's where you are wrong Nerissa, I thought someone as intelligent as you would have known better, there are indeed some ways to change the past, but they require a lot of power…"
"And here is where Alex is involved"
"Indeed" he said with a sad smile "sadly there is no other way"
"But, what's your plan? Go back to the past and convince them to not believe the other sorcerer?"
"Oh, no my dear, I'm going to kill him" he said, and this time his smile was everything but sad
"Would you tell me more about the ritual, do I need to prepare somehow?" Nerissa asked and, this time I knew my attention needed to be focused, the so called "ritual" was a euphemism for Alex's death.
"Not really, the ritual is not that complicated once you've got all the pieces of the puzzle and, as I have them, the only thing I need from you is…"
"Cornelia!" I heard Caleb's voice calling me, I tried to look for him but all around me became black.
Caleb's POV
"No! This can't be true, you must be mistaken, Cornelia is recovering, I know she is" I shouted to the air, I couldn't stand Harold and my father' stares, but I felt my knees becoming weak and I ended on the floor trying not to cry. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder and I saw Harold kneeling by my side, he embraced me and I felt tears running through my cheeks
"Caleb, she is not dead, but she entered in a coma, and the doctors don't know if she will ever wake up" and Harold started to cry.
"She will Harold, she's going to be fine, I want to see her" as I said the last words I got up and so did Harold "Tell me where she is, I'm sure she wants me by her side"
"Doctors said we can't see her until tomorrow" said my father
"We can try to convince them if you want Caleb" said Hay Lin, and I remembered she was there, also I noticed that she had cried too.
"I don't need their permission, I am her husband and I have the right to be with her, Harold, please tell me where she is" I said firmly.
"She is in the same room she was before, they took her there once her vital signs were normal again." When Harold ended his phrase I started walking to the room, if someone said something to me I can't remember, all I had in mind was Cornelia.
I opened the door and I was a little bit nervous, even though I knew she was in a coma, I couldn't help but feel happy to see her, I was sure that this excitement to just see her was a feeling that wasn't going to change with the years.
And there she was, my beautiful wife, if I didn't know better, I would said she was sleeping, I sat on the chair beside her bed, took her hand and started telling her all I did that day.
"And I know that the Oracle will convince the Conceal to help us, you have nothing to fear, everything will be fine, we will be together as a family, we have overcome so many things before and I know we can make this work" I kissed her hand and put my head on the bed, I was beyond exhausted and a little nap would make me good.
Harold's POV
I was never the kind of man who lived with fear, I considered myself someone strong, fearless, brave, that was until today. I loved my family, there was no doubt about it, and I liked to think that I loved both my daughters equally, but I knew it wasn't like that; Cornelia was my little girl as Lillian was her mothers, not that I didn't love her but the bond I had with Cornelia was something special, when the doctors told me about her being in coma and the possibility of her never waking up I felt the most terrible fear I could ever imagine, not even when I learnt about her being a guardian could make me feel so scared. My little girl, the one that I had taken to school and to ice skate practice, the one that loved chocolate ice cream and horror movies, the one that gave me the most beautiful grandson I could ever hope for, the one that grew up so fast, was there, in a hospital room fighting to stay alive.
"Cornelia!" I heard Caleb's desperate cry and my heart stopped for a second.
Caleb's POV
I woke up and everything around me was black, I was disorientated for a second but a warm hand in mine remind me of where I was.
"Hey love, how are you?" I said as I squeezed her hand "I miss you so much Cornelia, and I need you to wake up soon, you almost gave me a heart attack this afternoon you know, I was so scared, and I still am, please be ok Cornelia, because I can't live without you and I…"
"Beep beep beep!" sounded one of the machines Cornelia was attached, I didn't know much about Earth' medicine but I had seen enough movies and T.V shows to know what it meant, her heart was failing, she was dying.
"Cornelia!" I screamed as the lights went on and the room was suddenly full of doctors and nurses trying to keep my wife alive.
