SSQH Full Recap
Years after the events of Frozen, Elsa is ruling the kingdom of Arendelle as queen. One day from the sea and sky emerges an army of dragons. Amongst the dragon army is a single man who others would call the Dragon King. Left with no other choice the Queen of Arendelle is forced to submit to the whims of this foreign invader. Days later and nothing really happens despite an army of dragons at their doorstep. Elsa falls into a strange normalcy as she continues her day ruling Arendelle and spending her nights with the dragon king.
Anna breaks Elsa of her complacency as she reminds her that Arendelle is held hostage and that she needs to find a weakness to the man known as Hiccup. Ultimately nothing is achieved as Elsa learns that Hiccup is in Arendelle for a reason but he himself did not know why because of amnesia. One day a heavy rain storm causes a land slide that traps Anna and Kristoff. Left with no other choice Elsa begs Hiccup and his dragon to save everyone.
A week after Hiccup's intervention, Elsa decides to hold a dragon festival to introduce Hiccup to the new world. After a bombastic entrance Hiccup properly meets with Anna. The young princess questions Hiccup asking what his plans were for Arendelle. Hiccup states that he has no interest in ruling Arendelle and suggest that Anna take his place as the second Queen of Arendelle. Dancing with Elsa, Hiccup reveals that his memories have returned and begins the tale of how he arrived in Arendelle through Elsa's dreams.
The story begins with Hiccup and crew preparing for a Great Gathering of Chiefs, an event that has not happened in years. Days before hand, Valka returns home with a warning of a new threat. A new group of mysterious dragon riders were after the Gems of Fire and Ice. The Gem of Fire is the key to traveling from Earth to Asgard and the Gem of Ice is the key to traveling from Asgard to Earth. Long ago the dragons were created by Ragnarok, the god of dragons and time, and were tasked with the protection of the gems.
Engaging this new group of dragon riders, Hiccup learns that they wished to use the Gem of Fire to return the dragons back to there original birth home in order to achieve peace for the dragons. Hiccup disagrees with their goals and believes that dragons and vikings could peacefully coexist. The smoke clears and Hiccup emerges victorious but not before Hiccup forms a life contract with Ragnarok and becomes the guardian to the Gem of Fire and Ice.
The dream ends with Hiccup and Valla looking out to the sea and seeing the flags of the other vikings chiefs arriving to Berk.
Meanwhile back in Arendelle, Anna is developing her own stride as she leads a traditional holiday of Arendelle in the sickened absence of Elsa. Chapter 17 ends with Elsa and Hiccup together on the balcony of the palace. As the sun began to set, Elsa wonders how Hiccup's story will end.
Chapter 18: New Dream, Same tale
The first time Hiccup flew at night with Toothless, he loved it. The beautiful darker colors and the softer star lights compared to the day made everything more serene and calm. It was a time to relax after a stressful day filled with its blinding lights and radiant colors. But tonight was a different night, a bloody night. The once calm night blue sky turned into a blood red sky and the serene silence turned into deathly screams.
"There!" Hiccup shouted pointing downwards as he turned the pedal that controlled Toothless' fin to direct his dragon downwards. Even from high above the clouds Hiccup could see a village on the precipice of being completely burned to the ground. And just above the village circling around like flies were dragon riders.
The roars of Toothless grew louder as the other dragons riders looked up but it was already too late. Three plasma blasts instantly shot down three dragon riders before anyone could react. Exiting from their quick descent, the tailwinds of Toothless knocked two other riders off their dragons as Toothless flew by them.
The other dragons riders did not take the surprise lying down forever. An onslaught of fireballs flew towards Toothless and Hiccup. The pair tried to escape by flying up but was quickly surrounded. Toothless swerved and dodged in every possible direction but it wasn't enough as a fireball made contact. An explosion of smoke and fire erupted and the pair spiraled downwards into an already burning building.
The fiery crash was not enough for the dragon riders as they continued to rain fire down onto the building where Toothless and Hiccup had crashed. A moment of silence as the fireballs stop raining down and the vikings let out a victorious cheer. However, the viking's cheer was premature as the burning building started to glow a radiant blue. With a momentous roar and big explosion that pushed everyone back by the blast force, Toothless emerged from the burning building and charged at the dragon riders in the sky. The Nightfury was greatly outnumbered but not outmatched as he fought as a ferocious alpha dragon.
Back on the ground, smashing through the burning door was Hiccup who emerged clutching his left shoulder. Everywhere Hiccup looked he saw death. Bodies of villagers left lifelessly on the ground as the fires burned all around him. The vikings outnumbered the still alive villagers but even the vikings laughs and roars were not enough to drown out the screams of the few.
The vikings were in the apex of their adrenaline that only allowed them to recognize a person in two groups. A brethren and everyone else. Not recognizing the Chief of Berk, the vikings charged at Hiccup with only the minds to continue their destruction and pillaging.
Clenching his jaw in anger, Hiccup's eyes turned red. The hidden Berserker power contained within his ancestral blood boiled. This power created born from the Norse god Odin allowed the Berserkers to feel no pain and to fight endlessly until everyone is killed or they themselves were killed. Letting go of his left shoulder as he longer felt pain, Hiccup unlatched his blade from his side and ignited it. With a thunderous roar Hiccup charged at the enemy. Smashing one viking in the face with his left fist, Hiccup swiveled in time to parry an axe and returned lethal force with lethal force. Like a hydra, downing the first two viking only caused four more vikings to emerge from the fiery shadows.
Like Toothless, Hiccup was greatly outnumbered but he had no choice but to fight. After all the bloodthirsty dragon riding vikings and the endless destruction all around him were all his fault.
OoOoO
It has been a year since The Great Gathering of Chiefs. The first in many years since the last one ended in disaster. Drago has crashed the meeting and only Stoic the Vast survived. Years later Hiccup had started the Great Gathering of Chiefs once more. The Lava Louts, Bogs Burglars, Bashem Oiks, and Meathead clan gathered to Berk to discuss a new pact. The meeting was rough but ended in success. In exchange for peace throughout the archipelago for vikings and dragons, Hiccup divulged the secrets to training dragons. Now months later just before the winter solstice some dragons have gone missing and trouble was brewing from the shadows.
"What's the situation!" Astrid yelled slamming down her hands onto the giant table in the great hall of Berk.
"Dragons have gone missing," Fishlegs said simply but was very distraught, "Entire migrations and dragon habitats are completely gone. At first it started in the territories of the Lava Louts but now dragons are starting to go missing everywhere."
"Snotlout did you get anything from chief Basaltin Lout, when you visited Lava Lout island?" Astrid asked.
"It's chief Scorian Lout now, the previous chief died a while ago," Snotlout recounted his visit to the volcanic island, "I wasn't able to get anyone to tell me what happened to the previous chief. I also looked everywhere, if the Lava Louts have been stealing dragons, they are definitely not keeping it on the island."
"Not a single hint to where they could be hiding their extra dragons?" Fishlegs urged hoping to grasp to anything.
"I got absolutely nothing!" Snotlout shouted as he threw his hands up im frustration before completely freezing up as he dug through his memories, "There was a surprisingly very little Viking warriors present on the island."
"That would seem to indicate that the missing dragon aren't on the volcanic island but it still doesn't tell us where they could be hiding," Astrid muttered as she contemplated every possible answer.
"It's time we put the treaty to use," Tuffnut yelled as he stood up from his chair, "If we gather up the rest of the tribes and show up with a big enough force we can force the Lava Louts to tell us where they are hiding the dragons."
"I talked to Camacazi who is the chief now of the Bogs Burglars since Big Bertha stepped down from chieftain and she doesn't want to help. The Lava Louts and Bog Burglars are bitter enemies. The Lava Louts have always wanted to raid the home of the Bog Burglars but reaching them by boat had always been impossible. With all the missing dragons and the prime suspects being the Lava Lout tribe, Camacazi fears that the Bog Burglars are their first target. Camicazi can't leave without making their marsh vulnerable," Astrid explained.
"What about the Meathead Clan and the Bashin Oiks?" Fishlegs asked, "If they are willing to support us than Camicazi and the Bogs Burglars would be forced to help as well."
"Those two tribes are currently busy with a dispute about some island," Ruffnut replied, "They're too busy with their own conflicts to be of any help. The tension between those two tribes are like two yaks running downhill straight towards each other. A clash is going to happen out any moment now.
"Without any actual proof of any wrongdoing from the Lava Louts, the Meatheads and Bashin Oiks aren't going anywhere. And hypocritically, I'm pretty sure they have been breaking the treaty themselves and have been rounding extra dragons of their own because of the rising tension between the two tribes," Tuffnut added.
"So what? We are completely stuck to do anything unless we find where the Lava Louts are hiding their dragons?" Snotlout asked.
"Well where's Hiccup and Toothless?" Fishlegs asked, "He will know what to do. He's the only one that can get Camicazi and the rest of the burglars to help, stop the Lava Louts from whatever it is they are doing, and end the dispute between the Bashem Oiks and Meatheads."
"Missing as well," Astrid said with a sigh, "He took off with Toothless days ago and I haven't heard from him since. Hopefully those two are on the trails of our missing dragons and come back soon."
Back hunched, both hands on the table and fingers spread wide open, Astrid stared back at the other occupants of the table. Her intense gaze that screamed murder tried to extract any other information and dared the young band of vikings to withhold any information from her, punishable by a most painful death. The others sat at their seats in cold sweat, daring not to leave their seats unless they wished to be the first to witness Astrid's wrath. Eternal seconds went by in the vast empty grand hall but sadly not even sheer force of will would be enough to give them the answers they wanted.
"Meeting adjourned," Astrid said with a sigh as she stood up and relaxed herself. It only took seconds for Fishlegs, Snotlout, Ruffnut and Tuffnut to vacate the premise and leaving Astrid alone at the table.
Despite everyone leaving, battle mode Astrid still stayed. Muscles tightened and jaw clenched Astrid has no way to release all the built of energy and frustration that was building inside of her.
Astrid really wanted to punch someone.
"You should relax a little Astrid, I'm sure Hiccup and Toothless are perfectly safe and the answers we need will come in time," a voice echoed in the grand hall. From a dark corner, Valka stepped into the light. Taking a seat next to where Astrid stood, Valka rested a calming hand on Astrid's shoulder before gesturing for her to sit down as well.
"I am worried about Hiccup," Astrid said as she shifted her seat back and sat down next to Valka, "he sure is taking his sweet time getting back."
"Don't like taking charge Astrid?" Valka chuckled.
"I am a viking of action, I take charge because I have to not because I want to. Leadership is much more Hiccup's job," Astrid said offhandedly, as she fiddled her fingers underneath her glove.
"Are you certain that's all you're worried about?' Valka asked as she noticed the way Astrid moved her fingers from underneath the glove.
"You know about the ring Hiccup gave me?" Astrid asked whipping her head to Valka in surprise.
"Of course, it was my idea to give that ring," Valka replied, "I'm sure a more traditional viking such as yourself would have greatly appreciated another weapon but a ring provides so much practicality."
Pulling off the glove of her ringed hand, Astrid shined the ring against the fires to show to Valka. Rarely did the ring see the world outside her room, where only in the privacy of her room did she feel safe to admire the intricate designs of the ring.
"Unlike a weapon, a ring is small and easily transportable so that you can take it anywhere," Valka explained as she gently held Astrid's hand to get a better look at the ring. "Gifting a weapon is contradicting. A weapon is meant to be used but it would be a shame to ruin a gift that a person poured their heart and soul into,"
"I'm fine with the ring. I can ask for a new weapon anytime and Hiccup would be in the forge all day and night," Astrid said and laughing at an old memory of Hiccup tripping over himself as he forged a weapon for her birthday.
"I understand that your relationship with Hiccup is a private matter and I hope that it was alright that Hiccup shared some of it with me," Valka asked.
"No, it's alright, it's not like our relationship is a big secret. If Hiccup is asking for help then I appreciate any advice you give him or us," Astrid replied.
"I try not to push myself into the private matters of Hiccup and others," Valka explained, careful in the new ground that she was treading on, "I haven't been a mother to Hiccup or a viking of this clan for the most important part of everyone lives. It would be wrong of me to start acting that way now. And so I only give help whenever Hiccup asks for it.
"Do you mind listening now? It's about Hiccup and I," Astrid asked tentatively looking up to Valka, fully understanding Valka's predicament.
"Of course Astrid I would help you in anyway I can. But to be honest, I might not be able to help you much. I may have suggested the ring to Hiccup but I know very little about your relationship besides what Hiccup has told me about you. Hiccup and I do talk a lot but my son still keeps the most important matters to himself just as he learned growing up. Whether it was from his father or from his mother, Hiccup keeps his innermost thoughts to himself unless he has no other choice.
"Yea, Hiccup can be quite hard headed sometimes," Astrid replied.
"Yes very much like Stoick," Valka laughed, "So what about Ruffnut, didn't all of you grow up with the Thorston girl, wouldn't it be better to talk to her?"
"I would get more sensitivity from a rock," Astrid said waving her hand offhandedly wishing to vanish the very idea away from her mind, "If you weren't here I would have actually considered talking to a rock."
"Well luckily I am here, so how can I help Astrid?" Valka asked.
"You know that Hiccup gave me this ring about a year ago but what you probably didn't know was the promise we made to each other. We've have been putting off our marriage because we still have dreams that we need to accomplish, until we fulfill our dreams we can't get married," Astrid started.
"And what were these goals?" Valka asked urging Astrid to continue.
"Well for me, I want to be the greatest shield maiden in history and of course Hiccup wants peace for all vikings and dragons," Astrid explained.
"Very lofty goals but admirable nonetheless," Valka added.
"Lofty is the big problem though," Astrid said with a sigh, "It seems no matter how close we get to our goals we never seem to reach it. Only after a year of peace and it seems like the archipelago is about to fall back into war, only this time with vikings riding dragons. And as for me, I feel like I've hit a very big mountain that I can't seem to get over. I can't come up with anything that can compete with the Berserker power that's in Hiccups blood."
"Time is counting down and Hiccup as the viking chief needs to take a wife soon. If I recall correctly Stoic and I married around your age but we were pushing the limit," Valka commented.
"Do you think we are being too stubborn?" Astrid asked, "Getting married will only make things harder. How can I possibly become the best if I am at home carrying a baby? Hiccup can't possibly take on the responsibility of a child when he has taken it upon himself to be the peacebringer of the entire archipelago."
"Patience Astrid, there is still plenty of time for the both of you. We can never know the future but you will only have regrets chasing after what ifs rather than what you know today." Taking in Valka words, Astrid could understand the wisdom that came with being the mother of all dragons and being their protector before she was even out of diapers.
"Thanks Valka for the talk," Astrid said, her chair skidding back as she got up from the table. Reinvigorated with energy Astrid took off towards the exit across the long ancient hallowed halls, "Imma go train for a bit and then turn in for the night!"
Valka happily waved off Astrid as she ran off. It was only when the massive doors of the grand halls closed did Valka feel awkward and self conscious. Looking around with not a single soul in sight, she was all alone with only a few lit flames to keep her company. Ordinarily it would be Hiccup and Valka that were last to leave the meetings. But tonight Valka would returning home by herself.
Quickly gathering her staff and her things, Valka followed in the footsteps of Astrid and made her way towards the exit. About to close the door behind her, Valka took one last look inside and missing the times when she would hold the door open for her son. As she closed the doors with an echoing bang, Valka could only pray that Hiccup and Toothless were safe.
OoOoO
"Hiyahh!" a high pitched voice filled with youthful energy cried out. The voice was quickly followed by a deep thump, the sound of a sword hitting a tree and a sharp contrast to the sound of a child's voice.
From behind a tree emerged a flash of auburn hair and deep brown eyes as deep as the autumn leaves. Landing in front of the tree with a stomp, the girl ducked under an imaginary sword. Letting out another roar, the girl swung at the tree with all her might and lodging her sword deep within the bark of the tree. Panting the girl tried to unlodge her sword but it proved to be a herculean effort.
The girl collapsed onto the ground and sweat fell off her face and hands, carrying along all of her anger. She simply didn't understand why her father was so timid. This land was theirs, settled by their ancestors through great sacrifice. And yet her father would simply give it all up and run away from the viking threat.
The daughter of the chief of their village tried her best to talk to her mother and to talk to her father the chieftain, to talk to anyone that could help her but they would have none it. She was simply too young for her opinions to count for anything and apparently being the daughter of the chieftain was not worth anything either. Now here she was, in the middle of the forest away from her village taking out her frustration out on the trees. Regardless of what her father's decision was, she would need to become stronger in order to protect her people.
Off in the distance a loud crash and the sound of trees falling was heard. Birds took off from the trees to fly away from the sudden disturbance. With reinvigorated energy the girl picked up her sword and raced off to the source of the sound. If the vikings were here, she needed to run back and warn the village.
Approaching closer the girl dashed from one tree to the next, careful to watch out for any vikings. Going for the high ground she climbed on top of a rock giving a perfect view of the surrounding area.
Peering down the girl saw complete disaster zone. Great trees that stood against the test of time had fallen with trees splintered to their stump and the impact from before had upturned the ground. Near the epicenter of the disaster, was a man clad in brown and beast that she had never seen before. A dragon!
The dragon with its massive wings and black as a moonless night sky.
For what felt like forever, the girl hid behind her cover and held herself with bated breath as she watched the man and dragon remained unmoved. Losing her patience and mustering up her courage the girl jumped down, sword in hand and approached them.
As the girl got closer she could see the wounds from the epic battle between the two. They both had burn marks and open wounds. The girl kneeled down next to the man and reached out towards the man's neck just as her mother had taught her.
In a slow and steady pace, the girl could feel the vibration against the tips of her fingers. The heartbeat was faint and slow but he was alive. But it might not stay that way for long, she needed to go back and get help. She couldn't possibly carry him on her back by herself.
The girl heard a low grumble instantly jolting her up with a gasp. Quickly turning backwards the girl stared down at the dragon with the only thing between them was her sword raised high.
Despite being threatened with a sword, the dragon remained unmoved heaving deeply as its cat like eyes stared back at her into her very soul. The girl's started to breathe faster and her hands and legs shook, but she refused to run away. The dragon was already wounded, all she had to do was finish the job of what the man started. Slowly she started to creep forward.
"Elewynn!" the familiar voice of her father shouted.
The dragon sprung up and gave a loud roar, the force knocking Elewynn backwards. With his wings at full mass the dragon was absolutely massive that easily towered over the little girl. The screams of Elewynn were no match for the dragon's roar as the roar rippled through her skin that shook her bones and into her very core.
Her father was too far to help despite him running at full speed. The black abyss of the dragon's mouth was about to consume her. But before the dragon could get any closer, an entirely different darkness consumed Elewynn. A giant shadow casted over her, caused by a large body that blocked the sun and stood between Elewynn and the dragon.
"Toothless!" the brown armored man roared back as he ignited his blade and waved it at the black dragon in front of him. However, the dragon was on a rampage as the winged beast ignored the roar of the man and prepared to attack. Raising his black paw, the dragon swiped at Elewynn's protector.
Ducking underneath dragon's attack the man raised up his blade just in time to stop the beast from biting his head off. His fireproof glove holding the flat end of the blade and he had to use both his hands in order to stop dragon. His feet started to get buried into the ground as the dragon's superior beastly strength slowly pushed the man back farther and farther.
"That's enough!" the man yelled and he released all the energy he had left for one final push and pushed the dragon back. With his right arm pulled back, he balled his right hand into a fist and hit the black dragon square in the head that knocked the winged beast further back.
Elewynn knew a simple punch to the head wouldn't be enough to stop the dragon as she watched the man collapse onto the ground and remain unmoved. Watching from the ground, Elewynn knew that despite the man's valiant attempt they were going to die.
The dragon stepped back and shook it head and body, puffs of blue fire escaped it nostrils as the dragon sneezed. The black dragon returned its focus back to the two people in front of him, first looking at the man on the ground and then to the girl. The dragon's pupils were no longer cat like slits but were big and round but the dragon was still terrifying nonetheless.
"Elewynn!" her father yelled still racing towards her but he was still too far.
The dragon looked up to her father, the charging man with a shiny axe. The dragon looked back at the pair as if figuring out what to do, most likely trying to decide which one to eat first. It was only a small miracle as the dragon chose neither and took off deeper into the forest, the dragon too wounded to fly.
"Elewynn!" her father shouted once more as he had finally reached her daughter. Dropping down on the the ground, his forward momentum was enough to carry him to his daughter as he slid across the grass until he was right in front her.
"What on earth were you thinking!" Her father yelled in front of her, clearly not worried about damaging her daughter's ear drums but checked her from head to toe. Elewynn still in shocked and was responseless as she allowed her father to check her over.
"We will talk about this after but we are leaving right now!" her father ordered as he lifted her daughter up by her arm and started to drag her back towards the village. The life in Elewynn returned as her head glanced to the still motionless body on the ground.
"Wait Dad what about the man on the ground, he's hurt," Elewynn said as she was shocked back to life. Tugging her arm Elewynn tried to pull her father back towards the man. Her father proved to be an unstoppable force as he continued despite her protest.
"We have no time for this Elewynn, that dragon or even his allies could return at any moment. We have to leave now!" her father said.
"That man saved my life, we can't just leave him here!" Elewynn shouted back as she continued to fight against her father.
Looking back at the strange man on the ground, the father did not know what to make of him. The man wore strange armor that looked strangely of leather. On his shoulder pad was a strange symbol that looked like a dragon but he could not recognize the symbol from anywhere. The man must be a veteran of battle as he had a strangely shaped metal leg most likely lost from battle, possibly a battle with a dragon. Most strangest of all was his sword. Through some sort of magic the sword was still lit and engulfed in flames as it protruded from the ground.
The father was a careful man who would never lower his guard to unknown strangers such as the man in front of him. On the other hand the man did save his daughter from being eaten and perhaps this man had some much needed information to the devastating viking raids. He needed to protect his daughter and the village but he did not know if he could trust this strange man. The dragon appearing so close to the village might mean the other vikings were close. Time was of the essence and he needed to decide quickly. In the end his sense of honor and desperation won out.
"Alright," His father relented as he let go of his daughter's arm to which Elewynn smiled with glee.
'Thank you dad!" Elewynn said.
"We are to stop for nothing else. Run straight in front of me and do not leave, do you understand Elewynn?" the father ordered as he picked up the man and carried him on his shoulder and moved quickly to pull the flaming sword out of the ground. Together the father daughter pair ran back to their village.
Hey, I'm back to finish the Fanfic. I went on hiatus because I felt like my updates were increasingly becoming slow and erratic. Chapter 17 felt like was a good place to stop and so for that past year I have focused on completely finishing the story before I updated again.
I am all done now so new chapter every Sunday until it is done. And as always I appreciate any feedback and review.
