Night Wind
By: Wilona Riva
Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom.
Author's Note: The last two or three years have been very busy ones, with hardly any time for writing. I apologize if I haven't gotten back to anyone over the last several months, but those of you who are kind enough to leave reviews-thank you.
I'm not sure how frequently I'll be able to update before life intrudes again, but I aim to at least get the next four chapters in before vanishing into Time again.
Poll: What will Phantom name Mikey, who is the Seventh? (Hint: The name must come from Alfred Lord Tennyson's Crossing the Bar, which was Night Wind's favorite poem. I'll explain the significance in a future chapter.)
Daylightborn
Phantom scrambled to his feet, nearly causing Twilight and Dusk to fall over themselves. Paling, he turned trembling, towards the cloaked figure who appeared in the tree next to the glowing phoenix.
The glowing figure hummed softly, and swung his legs back and forth, like a child does at times. All of a sudden, the old man was a child, then an adult, and finally an old man, before returning to his child form.
Tucking his staff under an arm, he folded his hands under his chin, and looked down at the children - Human, Ryu, Day Wind, and Night Wind.
Ruby eyes twinkled. "Hello, my name is Clockwork. Please to meet you all."
"Ever the southern gentleman, Chronos," Aviana murmured. "Children, what do we say?"
"Hello, Time Master," Breeze and Lore said politely.
"Hi, Gramps!" Pyre said, waving at him, with a wide grin on her face.
"Pyre!" Lore hissed.
Breeze rolled his eyes upwards. How does she get away with everything?
Pointdexter glanced up at the dark sky. "Applesauce! Can you prove it?"
"The hunters are coming! The hunters are coming!"
"Word from the bird. You should have more respect for the Clockwork Chronos, young ryu," Aviana chastised Sidney, then glanced over at Ember. "What is so amusing, Pyre?"
Night Lord?
I know, Dusk.
We should return to our Queen, while we have a chance, Phantom.
"Question is, Daniel, why are you hesitating?" Clockwork asked, rounding on the phantomic ghosts. "Do you actually care for the humans?"
Phantom bowed his head, fingers moving slowly, forming a response. I don't know.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Maddie opened her eyes slowly, trying to register where the beeping sound was coming from. Taking out the tracker she slept with under her pillow, it took her a minute to realize the beeping sound meant.
"Jack!" she exclaimed, "The ghosts are loose in town."
"That's fine," Jack mumbled, turning onto his side. "I want scrambled eggs and fudge, please, Maddie."
Maddie sighed in exasperation, and put on her robe. Maybe-just maybe-the tracker was broken.
Eveningstar! The Huntress!
"Hey, where did the crazy ghost go?"
Aviana spread her wings, and a glowing golden portal appeared at the base of the tree she was perched. "My children, come."
Phantom shook his head. Light is death to us.
We are Night Wind, Dusk added.
"I'm human," Mikey stated in protest.
Forgot he was still here, Twilight signed to Phantom, who just nodded.
Let him go, Phantom signed back. We must seek our brethren in the proper order.
Besides, Dusk responded. What's a few days more?
Mikey hugged Lore. "Thanks for coming visit. Tonight was...entertaining."
Meanwhile back in Clockwork's Tower:
"You. Are. A. Nutter," were the clipped words that greeted him upon his return.
"Thank you, my dear Ain. That was an Oscar-winning performance."
Popcorn was tossed in his face.
