The Truth (Part One)

A/N: I Do Not Own RWBY

I just want to tell the guest who told me my bias was ruining the story... Ya would have never had a story if I wasn't biased ya dingus!

Now I've said this before as I know that Raven is a bad person who left her child after she was born. That's what we've been told. Do I wish there was something more to it? Yes, that's why I'm writing a fanfiction. Because I can't actually believe Raven was at full fault for her team getting disbanded. Like 4 years and y'all still couldn't get along? I cannot believe Raven spent 4 years with a team, never cooperated (despite being Ozpin's favorites), was convinced into being Ozpin's spy, was once in love with Taiyang, smiled in a photo where she didn't have to, had a child with Taiyang Xiao Long, only to leave the day after Yang was born.

You see I'm thinking all of that because I have a bias. And that's how ya girl came up with this fanfiction.

YEET!

It's been three months since that night. Raven was now in Haven academy training under Leonardo Lionheart with the Fall Maiden, Amber. It was hard. She wasn't use to her powers. Hadn't been using them as much as she probably should have. Raven hit the floor hard; her aura giving out. "That's enough!" Leo yelled from the sidelines. Raven lay in an arena that was meant for sparring students.

Raven and Amber had taken up the positions of Spar Class and Haven's newest student respectively. It was a good enough cover for the two newest Maidens. Raven stared at the light's in the ceiling before a shadow loomed over her. "Are you going to get up or are you just going to laze around teach." Amber seemed to enjoy her own comment.

"Very funny." Raven replied getting up. 'Kids these days. No respect for their elders' Raven shook her head standing up.

"Raven you need to use your powers more. You can't just keep defaulting to your Huntress training." Leo looked at her without emotions.

Raven waved a hand away, "Yeah. Yeah. You sound like a whinny old lady."

Leo scoffed but turned around to leave. "We're done for today. Get some sleep; you two have classes tomorrow." he said as he walked away. "Kids there days. No respect for their elders." was the last comment Raven could hear. She internally gagged in disbelief that she had thought the same thing.

"Are you coming Mrs. Xiao Long?" Raven looked up to find Amber looking a bit concerned.

"Yeah kid. I'm right behind ya." Raven said informally. If she didn't know any better she didn't know Amber's last name. She made note to check the attendance papers tomorrow during class.

That night Raven had dreamt of the day she left Patch.

"What do you mean you're leaving?" Tai held Yang in his arms as he watched Raven pack her things.

"Ozpin gave me a mission." Raven said.

"Can't he just give the mission to someone else?" Tai argued.

"No. It's one of those missions." Raven turned to her husband and daughter. Tai was deep in thought. Raven wouldn't admit it but the pain in his expression made her feel wanted.

"Okay, so how long are you going to be gone? What's the mission?" Tai asked.

"The mission..." Raven turned away. She paused for a moment with a secret smile. She always was one for the dramatic flare. She had to at least have a little fun with her husband.

"Raven?" Tai prodded.

Raven shook her head turning back to her husband and daughter with a neutral expression. "The mission..." Raven repeated looking down.

"Really?" Raven looked up at Tai; he was pouting with an obvious glare.

Raven laughed, "I'm sorry. I couldn't resist." Tai huffed turning away from his wife.

He turned back around to face her. "I'm being serious here Raven." he looked her straight in the eyes.

Raven sighed walking up to her husband. "The mission is pretty simple." Raven ran her fingers through her hair. "I have to shadow someone important." Raven started to explain.

"Maiden important?" Tai pushed.

Raven looked up at him with a feeling of lingering sadness. "Yeah." she nodded.

"And how long are you going to be gone?" Tai repeated. Raven looked down. She turned and walked back to her luggage. She went through her things again trying to ignore the question. "Raven." Tai pushed. Raven paused but kept going. "Raven!"

"I don't know!" Raven spun around with tears in her eyes. Tai looked at her stunned as she turned back around. "Ozpin didn't say. He just said watch her until the mission is complete." the mother double checked her bags. She wiped her face with a few sniffles.

"So Yang is going to grow up without you?" there was pain in Tai's voice.

"No. Ozpin assured me that I would be back before she could remember I was even gone." Raven said; a hint of anger slipped through her words.

"So what am I supposed to do? Huh! Am I just supposed to sit here and wait for you!?" Tai started to scream. This is not what she wanted for her last day. Raven closed her bags not even caring if she had finished packing anymore. She quickly got her things and pushed past Tai. She could hear his footsteps behind her. "ANSWER ME RAVEN!"

"I DID THAT FOR YOU! WHY CAN'T YOU DO THAT FOR ME!?" Raven snapped.

They both glared at each other and Raven left without another word.

"Alright class. That's enough for today." Raven watched the last two combatants leave the arena. "Remember to watch your aura during battle. The last thing you want is to die to a stray bullet." Raven continued as the students left the classroom. She turned her attention to her clipboard; flipping through her papers and notes. Violet needed to work on her communication skills, Ebony need to stop running from every unwinnable fight, Shang had issues with fighting against women and Amber tended to skip her class all together.

"For a kiss ass you sure know how to get on my nerves." Raven huffed. She walked out of the classroom still looking through her notes when a middle aged man decided to try to strike up a conversation with her.

"Hello Mrs. Xiao Long, lovely day isn't it?" the man inquired.

"Jack." Raven said continuing to look through her notes.

"Yes?" Jack responded.

"Is there any reason why you're talking to me?" Raven kept walking through the hall.

"Uhhhhh" Jack began.

"Stay right there for me." Raven turned to him. He stopped right in his tracks. She glared at him before walking away without a word, leaving him to stand in the hallway alone.

"Uhhh Raven?"

Raven hit the ground hard but was able to get back on her feet. Raven barely dodged a fireball aiming her her head. But she couldn't stay still, not even for a moment. Amber was on her ass, using her Maiden powers with reckless abandonment. Raven quickly pulled out a ice dust odachi. She swiped at the the next three fireballs aimed at her head. The cool breeze hitting her face. Raven ran toward Amber with all her might to try and get close to the girl. Amber smirked before sending Raven flying back down with a strong gust of wind.

Raven got up and was put back on the defensive as Amber shot fireball after fireball; lighting bolt after lighting bolt. Raven kept up her defensive but didn't see the fire ball behind her. It hit her in the back, burning through her combat outfit. Raven screamed hitting the ground face first breaking her Aura. She weakly got up hearing footsteps. Raven looked up and stared into Amber's eyes. "Remember to watch your back." Amber held out a hand to Raven. She slapped the hand away, not wanting to take the pity.

"Alright. Let's pick up tomorrow." Leo started up as Raven stood up. 'Same damn lectures every damn time.' Raven was fed up and didn't want to listen. She walked away from the man even as he called after her.

Raven rested near a cliff over looking the city of Mistrial. The huntress pulled her head back taking another swig of the cheap beer she bought on the way here. She felt like a punching bag. It's been 3 months and she still hasn't improved. All her years at Beacon and it didn't compare to the raw power the Maidens had. Power she possessed.

She felt like she needed to hold back. Raven felt the same as when she first got into Beacon. She couldn't use all of her cards until she knew how to kill a huntsman with the bare minimum effort. Sure there were easy ways to kill a unsuspecting Hunter, but she had always enjoyed being up close and personal. Watching the light fade from their eyes.

But meeting Summer and Tai changed all of that. She didn't have to find enjoyment in killing. It wasn't her way anymore. At Beacon she gotten her freedom from her tormentor, the ruthless chieftain of her tribe, and her father. At the time she only had her brother, but after the years she gained a new family. One she could believed in.

Raven let out a sigh. A familiar sound caught her attention breaking her from her thoughts. A Vale airship. The huntress watched as it headed over to Mantle Academy. She finished her beer and tossed it over her shoulder hearing it break behind her; than she pushed herself off the cliff. The wind roared passed her ears as she stared at her target. Lifting her leg up she can hear her boots scrap against the cliff-side before she kicked off. It was only for a second that she enjoyed her being suspended in the air before drawing on Ozpin's power.

She blinked and could feel her wings push against the gravity of Remnant. She flew quick and low landing on the airship right when she heard Ozpin and Leo's voice.

"I-I wasn't expecting you. What can I do for you Ozpin?"

"Yes. Yes. You can think of it as a... surprise visit. I have matters to discuss and it's better if we talk behind closed doors. You never know who might be listening."

Raven tried to suppress her aura but there was no suppressing magic from a man who knew what to feel for. She watched the two men walk into Mantel silently. Raven huffed or cawed. Stupid ancient magic. She flew over the school landing near Leo's office. She returned to her human form and cut off all traces of her aura. She laid near the edge and waited for her superiors to walk into the small office. If she knew anything about Leo, it's that he didn't have the balls to ask for a bigger room. Raven could hear the door open.

"Now, what is it that you needed to talk about?"

A pause. No doubt Ozpin was on the look out for her presence.

"It's about our Spring Maiden."

Raven listened closer.

"Yes. I remember sending you today's monthly reports. She's still not learning anything. She barely uses her powers."

"Yes. That's why I'm here... I'm going to need you to send her on her way."

"What do you mean?"

"You're reports say Amber is learning fast. That she's a natural with her Maiden powers."

"Yes. She hasn't taken on a real challenge since Raven continues to hold back. But she's controlling her powers much better than when we started a year ago."

'Well that explains why she's kicking my ass.'

"That's good to hear. Which means there is no more reason for her to stay and babysit the Spring Maiden."

'Asshole'

"What do we do with Raven?"

"We'll send her with Amber."

"Isn't it a bit too early for that Ozpin?"

"Yes. A Maiden's journey must be done alone but Raven is proving to be... difficult. Plus with Salem's henchmen roaming about it's not the best idea to leave a Maiden completely alone."

"So send them both away? Tell them it's time-"

"You can tell Amber that."

Raven didn't like the sound of this.

"What about Raven?"

"You tell her to go with Amber on a mission. Make up a mission. Anything to satisfy her. She's a smart girl, she won't be tricked so easily."

Another pause.

"Use her family if you need to."

Raven felt her blood boil. Ozpin was always a snake. She knew it back in Beacon and she knows it now. Thanks to his little curse he talked her and her brother into she'd been listening into his conversations more and more. Getting caught quite a bit but she learned he told everyone he spoke to something different. What they needed to hear. Soon he stopped catching her all together. It's times like this she's actually thankful for his little blessing.

"I'm sure you can come up with something. Raven isn't like the others. She won't listen to any of us unless it aligns with her own personal goals and morals. In the end she does need to do this for her family."

"What do you mean?"

Raven waited hearing a sigh.

"Because if we don't get the Maiden's all on the same page, we won't be able to beat Salem; and if we can't do that well... Raven may never see her family again."

Ozpin walked quietly to his room. Raven was always the one who needed a little push from the shadows. No matter how many times he caught her ease dropping she never relented. That's when he started to tell her the truth through bated whispers. At least a truth that he would let her in on.

Raven wasn't easily motivated. She needed a threat. Something she could to fight against. While Salem and the destruction of the world usually pulled people to his favor. Raven treated it as a fairy tale. Therefore Ozpin took up the role of evil mastermind. Him and Raven were never close anyway and having her suspensions be right gave her a false sense of security Ozpin could control.

Whenever he needed STRQ to do a dangerous mission; Raven would be against it. All he needed to do was tug on that protective part of her and she would go. She would do anything for the people she loved. After finding her tick she was easier to control and would sometimes go freely. As long as Ozpin kept 'lying', Raven would swoop in and protect everyone. As long as Ozpin didn't directly hurt her family she would never be completely against him. Protective to a fault. Always in the shadows saving her friends from the truths of the world.

This time it took a promise of seeing her family to get her to Mistrial. Now he will do it again. The thought of never going back home would push Raven to get better. He said his 'goodbyes' and 'left''on the airship. His Aura changed to disguise himself on campus. Having a millions lives meant he had a million Aura's to chose from. Now he would watch her progress himself, from the shadows light always. Pulling on her strings to get her to do what he wanted.

Ozpin rubbed his face with his hands. STRQ had so much promise, but the teenage drama only lead him to the mess he was now in and needed to clean up; and clean up soon before anyone noticed there was something wrong in the first place. Ozpin looked down at his scroll and pressed play on a message. Summer's face filled the screen, her eyes red from crying. "Ozpin! I don't know what to do!" Summer started wiping the fresh tears from her face. "I... I'm pregnant and... it's Tai's."
