Chapter 21: Gray Sunflowers

Knight In Tight Pants: Baby girl, what's yo name?

Queen of S(ass): Regina...?

Knight In Tight Pants: sigh

Knight In Tight Pants: did you even listen to the playlist i made u?

Queen of S(ass): You literally sent it to me an hour ago. I'm only on the third song.

Knight In Tight Pants: ...how?

Queen of S(ass): I had a meeting with the blue bitch

Queen of S(ass): *fairy

Queen of S(ass): Sorry. Autocorrect.

Knight In Tight Pants: i just rolled my eyes so hard.

Knight In Tight Pants: What'd she want ?

Queen of S(ass): She asked me when I was going to get my head out of my ass and "fix this thing between you and Emma. Because if you don't hurry, someone will snatch her up."

Knight In Tight Pants: Lol, valid question. I'm a hot commodity Gina

Queen of S(ass): Is that so?

Knight In Tight Pants: Yep! Folks are lining up as we speak

Queen of S(ass): I'll burn them all to the ground.

Knight In Tight Pants: That's hawt

Knight In Tight Pants: You ready for lunch?

Queen of S(ass): What about your many suitors?

Knight In Tight Pants: You know you're my one and only baby

Queen of S(ass): Hmph. I'll think about it.

Knight In Tight Pants: why must u torture me?

Queen of S(ass): You love it.

Knight In Tight Pants: Cant deny what's true.

Queen of S(ass): I have to finish up these last few documents and then I'm all yours for lunch.

Knight In Tight Pants: just for lunch? I was hoping i could have you forever.

Queen of S(ass): You already have me forever, dear.

Knight In Tight Pants: Sap

Queen of S(ass): You started it.

Queen of S(ass): So where are we sneaking off to for lunch?

Knight In Tight Pants: I made a picnic basket. Zee is at Granny's with Rubes so the house will be free. I figured we could have a romantic lunch in the backyard.

Queen of S(ass): ...You did what?

Knight In Tight Pants: is...that okay or? No?

Knight In Tight Pants: do you not wanna do that?

Knight In Tight Pants: we can do something else

Knight In Tight Pants: Gina?

Queen of S(ass): I'd love to have a picnic, Emma.

Knight In Tight Pants: you sure?

Queen of S(ass): Yes, my love, I'm sure. It simply caught me off guard. Sometimes you do and say things that make me fall in love with you all over again.

Knight In Tight Pants: I just want to give the world to the woman who is my world.

Queen of S(ass): I love you

Knight In Tight Pants: I love you too

Knight In Tight Pants: Meet me at home?

Queen of S(ass): Can't wait.

Emma smiled, putting her phone in her pocket. She turned to see her father and Mulan filling out paperwork and frowned when a big snore rang out across the room. She looked down to see Chance asleep under her desk. Emma chuckled and shook her head. He hasn't even done anything today. What a noob. Emma thought, getting up to put on her jacket.

"Heading to lunch?" David asked.

Emma nodded. "Yeah. I was gonna pick up Granny's but I think I'm just gonna go to Ruby's. Make a sandwich and take a nap." Emma said.

"I'll have lunch with you if you want. I know you usually had lunch with Regina, so if you want the company, I don't mind." Mulan offered.

David nodded in agreement. "Yeah honey, you know we're here if you need us. We'd all be more than happy to have lunch with you. Dinner too."

Emma smiled and shook her head. "Thanks guys, but I think I'll want to spend some time alone for the next few days. Maybe next week?"

Mulan smiled and nodded. "I'm gonna hold you to that."

"How about you go ahead and take a two-hour lunch break? That way you can rest and take your time." David offered.

Emma shook her head. "That's not necessary, Dad. I'm good."

David sighed. "Listen, we know you've been kind of down lately, since you know…ending things with Regina. I know it can take an emotional toll and I don't want you pushing yourself any harder than you have to. Take some time to yourself. I know you need it."

Emma frowned. "Are you sure?"

David nodded. "Yeah. The rest of us can hold down the fort. Right, Mulan?"

Mulan gave a thumbs up as she bit into a peach. "Don't worry, Emma. We have it covered. Go enjoy your break."

Emma sighed. "Okay then. Thanks guys. I'll…see you later, I guess." Emma said, before walking out of the door.

David quickly turned and dialed a number on the office phone.

Mulan frowned. "Who are you calling?"

"Regina's secretary." David said, his leg bouncing up and down quickly. "Hello? Sandra? Hey, it's David. Do you know if Regina is at lunch yet? Okay, and how long is her break? Great. Tell me Sandra, are you interested in Emma and Regina getting back together? Excellent. There's a meeting in the school gym, thirty minutes. Be there. Thanks Sandra! See you then."

Mulan frowned as David hung up the phone. "Wait wait, I'm missing something. Meeting for what exactly?"

"To get Emma and Regina back together! Snow and I have been trying to find a time to schedule one, but Emma and Regina are always around town. Emma's going home to eat and take a nap, so she'll be there for the next two hours. And get this, Sandra said that Regina went home for lunch, so she's gonna be at home for the next hour! This is the perfect opportunity!" David exclaimed.

"Damn, you're right! Okay, so what do we need to do?" Mulan asked, finally understanding the plan.

David stood up and started putting his paperwork away. "We need to spread the word as quickly as possible. Anyone who wants to help. We're gonna need as many people as we can if we plan on trying to get those two back together. I'll text Snow and tell her to inform everyone at the school. I figured we could use the gym since it's the biggest place we have other than the Town Hall, plus the kids are already there so that's less we have to worry about." David said, pulling out his cell phone.

Mulan nodded. "Makes sense. I'll go by Granny's and tell everyone that's there. Then from there, everyone can branch out and spread the word." She said, picking up her keys and putting some files away.

"Sounds great! I'll take Chance with me as well. I'll meet you at the gym and I'll let you know if anything changes." David said, gathering up the dog's collar.

Mulan nodded. "See you then!" She said, heading out of the station.

Emma smiled as she fed Regina a strawberry. "You're incredibly cute. Ya know that?"

Regina grinned as she finished chewing. "I may have heard it once or twice. Though, I believe you're a lot cuter."

Emma tilted her head and grinned. "Damn, you're right. But you're definitely sexier. And more adorable."

Regina rolled her eyes and smiled. "I don't think one can be sexy and adorable at the same time, dear."

"And yet, here you are, being adorable and sexy. Always going against the grain." Emma said with a wink.

Regina rolled her eyes, and leaned forward, giving Emma a kiss on the lips. "So, what else do you have planned for th-" Regina's phone pinged, cutting her off. She frowned as she looked at the message.

"What's wrong?" Emma asked, noticing the frown on Regina's face.

"Sandra just emailed me saying that the dwarves cancelled their meeting today and rescheduled for tomorrow." Regina said, typing out a reply.

Emma hummed. "What were they meeting about?"

"They wanted to discuss everything that needed to be done for Miner's Day. They had some new ideas that they wanted to pitch to me."

Emma nodded. "Hmmm, I wonder why they cancelled."

Regina shrugged, putting her phone down and laying on Emma's lap. "I'm not sure, but I now have an extra hour for lunch so I'm not complaining." Regina said.

"Well then, in that case, I suggest we finish eating and then we can dedicate the rest of our time to doing some wedding planning." Emma said. "I mean, if you're up for it." She added with a smirk.

Regina looked up at Emma in surprise. "I was sure you were going to suggest sex and sleeping. Who are you and what have you done with my Emma Swan?" She asked, narrowing her eyes.

Emma snorted. "Ha ha, you think you're soooo funny. You're right though, sex and sleep did cross my mind, but let's be honest, I'm always thinking about having sex with you." Emma said wiggling her eyebrows.

"Likewise, dear." Regina purred, sliding her hand under Emma's shirt.

"But," Emma said, putting her hand on Regina's to stop it from exploring any further up her shirt. "I also realized that we haven't picked out wedding invitations yet, and we have yet to decide on a set color scheme for the wedding, which also effects our decorations and flowers and junk, so…we should probably, ya know…get to work on that." She said seriously.

Regina fixed Emma with a curious glance as she sat up. "Hm, I'm not sure why, but that little speech, though ineloquent, somewhat aroused me." Regina said, looking at Emma's lips.

Emma smirked and leaned forward, nipping Regina's bottom lip, pulling a moan from the brunette. "Remember that time I told you that my planning would turn you on and you denied it? Told ya so."

Regina rolled her eyes as she straddled Emma's lap. "Oh shut up." She said, pulling Emma in for a kiss.

Snow watched as people filed into to the gym. She was worried that not many people would show up, but it seems that a good majority of the town was there. Snow tapped the microphone to make sure it was on. "Uh-hello everyone! Please go ahead and finish getting seated. We'll start in a few." She said. She then turned to David, who gave her a reassuring smile.

"Don't worry honey, this will work." He said, grabbing her hands.

Snow sighed. "How can you be so sure?"

"Because everyone here wants the same thing. We all want Regina and Emma to be together, and with all of these willing people, we can't fail." He said, sealing his belief with a kiss to Snow's forehead.

Snow nodded. "You're right, you're right. Okay, let's do this." Snow took a deep breath as she approached the podium. She cleared her throat causing everyone in the gymnasium to quiet down. "We would like to thank everyone for showing up. I wasn't sure we'd have a big crowd, so this defiantly exceeded my expectations. We're all here because we believe in Emma and Regina's relationship, and believe that they belong together. With enough hope, effort, and teamwork, I believe we can get these two morons back together!" Snow exclaimed, smiling as cheers filled the gym. She waited for the cheers to die down before continuing.

"Okay, so here's what we know so far." Snow said, looking down at her clipboard for reference. "Apparently, Emma and Regina officially split up sometime last week, the exact day is not yet known. However, according to the both of them, things had been rocky for the past few months." Murmurs broke out across the gym. "I know I know. It seems that no one was aware that things were bad between them. Between Regina's politician smile and Emma's talent for of being nonchalant, it's not surprising that none of us noticed." Snow looked down at her clipboard and hummed. "Okay, so there are a few people who have more information regarding the break up. Ruby, would you like to start?" Snow asked, addressing Ruby who sat on the front row.

Ruby nodded as she got up and approached the podium. "Okay, so according to Emma, before they broke up, they had been having some hard months. Not talking, no intimacy of any kind, just a lot of tension, and not the good kind. Now, Emma never said why things were bad, she just said they were. We all know Emma and Regina are secretive about stuff, so I'm surprised I even got that much out of her. Anyway, so then one night they decided to hash things out and everything blew up from there. Now, Emma is staying with Green and I, and that's all I know." Ruby said with a shrug.

"Has the Sheriff said anything about the break up since she's been living with you?" Someone called out from the audience.

Ruby shook her head. "No, she hasn't. But she only moved in last night, so we'll see." Ruby said. She stepped away from the podium and took her seat as the audience clapped.

"Thanks Ruby. Belle? Zelena? Anything to add?" Snow asked.

Both Zelena and Belle got up and headed to the podium. Belle decided to go first, wringing her hands together as she leaned towards the microphone. "Well, I know about as much as Ruby does. Regina said that there was a lot of screaming when they broke up, which gives me a little hope, because I think it would have been worse if they had calmly talked about everything and then split up. Everyone knows that when you're screaming and arguing things are very emotional and you end up saying things that you may not necessarily mean. I think they simply broke up in the heat of the moment and both of them are too stubborn to admit they were wrong." Belle paused as the audience applauded. "However, Regina also said that the two of them said things to each other that two people should never say to one another. We all know that Regina has a special way with words, and that Emma has quite a mouth on her, so you can only imagine some of the things that they said to each other." Belle said, causing murmurs and grimaces. "BUT, I will mention that Regina said that she still cares about Emma's well-being, so…there's that." She added, resulting in applause.

Zelena waited for Belle to take her seat before stepping up to the podium and clearing her throat. "I would like to start by saying that both my sister and the Saviour are idiots." Zelena smiled as loud cheers and agreements broke out across the gym. "Since Emma is staying at our place, I made the executive decision to stay over Regina's in order to help her through this difficult time. Within the first five minutes there, I asked her when she and Emma were going to clean up their act and get back together. However, she was insistent on the fact that there is no chance of them getting back together. She insisted that her heart was not broken and that she and the Saviour were over. Now, I know that you're thinking that that sounds serious and it actually sounds like things may be over for good. Well, I thought the same thing at first. That is until Regina called Emma insufferable."

Gasps were heard throughout the gym and Zelena nodded. "Exactly. We all know that Regina considers that some form of endearment when it comes to Emma. So fear not, for there is hope after all!" She declared, causing cheers and applause. Zelena bowed and took her seat.

"That was beautiful." Snow said. "Thank you, ladies, for the information. Now that we're all pretty much caught up, let's get more into figuring out how to get these two back together. David? Henry?"

David and Henry nodded, stepping forward to the podium. David cleared his throat and began. "Thank you, Snow. Thank you to Ruby, Belle, and Zelena for filling us all in, and a big thanks to all of you for showing up on such short notice. Give yourselves a round of applause." When the applause died down, David continued. "The plan that we come up with today will hopefully result in the reuniting of Emma and Regina. So, let's get started!"

Emma sighed at she and Regina looked at their wedding board. After they had finished eating, they pulled out all of their wedding stuff that was hidden in Regina's office. Their first thing to tackle was finally picking colors. Regina had suggested red, to which Emma suggested purple and white to go along with it. The two of them had been trying to decide on shades of colors for the past twenty minutes and it wasn't getting anywhere. She sighed again, causing Regina to roll her eyes.

"Sighing isn't helping, dear." Regina said, as she compared two different shades of red to each other. "Must I remind you that it was your idea to do wedding planning?"

Emma groaned into her hands. "Please don't. Is it too late to take you up on that offer of sex and sleep?" Emma asked, snaking her arms around Regina's waist.

Regina chuckled as Emma kissed her neck. "I'm afraid so, dear. I'm in the zone now."

Emma hummed as she trailed kisses up Regina's neck. "Are you sure there's nothing I can do to change your mind?" She asked before nibbling Regina's ear.

Regina grinned at Emma's attempt to distract her. "Actually, there is something you can do." Regina said turning around in Emma's arms. "Which one of these do you prefer? Orchid or Amethyst?" She asked, holding up two purple cards.

Emma pulled back and groaned as she sat on the stool next to Regina. "Gi, are you kidding me? They're literally the exact same color!" She argued. "My eyes hurt." She said, rubbing her eyes.

Regina rolled her eyes at Emma's dramatics and handed the cards to her. "Well, my dear, we have to choose something."

Emma sighed and observed the colors. These are literally the same fucking color. She sighed again. "I guess the orchid is fine. What about that one?" She asked, pointing to the darker card on the board.

Regina followed her finger. "The violet?"

Emma nodded. "Yeah, you like violet, right?"

Regina tilted her head as she compared the crimson red to the violet. "I do, but it's up to you. Which do you like better?"

Emma frowned. "What? Why is just up to me?"

"Because you chose to do purple."

"Yeah, but I only chose it because it's your favorite color, babe. I thought you would choose it originally but then you went and chose red." Emma clarified.

Regina frowned and tilted her head as she looked at Emma. "I chose red because I know it's your favorite color." Regina's frowned deepened. "Wait, you think purple is my favorite color?"

Emma frowned and scratched her head. "You think red is mine?"

They both sat there in silence, both somewhat amused and confused. Emma broke the silence first.

"Okay so…you're saying purple isn't your favorite color?"

Regina shook her head.

Emma frowned. "What the hell, since when? I always thought it was your favorite! Everyone knows you like purple, red, and black!"

Regina hummed. "I do like them, but they are not my favorite."

Emma shook her head, confusion evident on her face. "Then what the hell is it?"

"It's yellow." Regina said, suppressing a grin at Emma's face of shock.

"Yellow?!" Regina nodded. Emma stared at her in shock. "I've literally never seen you even wear that color. Do you even own anything yellow?!" Emma exclaimed.

Regina chuckled before shaking her head. "No."

Emma groaned and put her head in her hands. "I cannot believe this." She said before looking at Regina again. "Yellow. I can't even explain how shocked I am right now."

Regina snorted. "I can tell. Would you like to know why it's yellow?"

"Please."

Regina grinned. "It reminds me of you."

Emma frowned. "Me?" Regina nodded. "How?"

Regina shrugged. "At first it was that atrocious car. In this dull little town, it seemed to be the brightest thing here. When you first got here, I would always find myself looking for that yellow coffin wheels to see if it was still in my town. It was a signal letting me know you were still here, still a threat. You strolled into my town with your bright yellow car, and yellow hair, and Henry thought the sun shined out of your ass." Regina said rolling her eyes, causing Emma to laugh. "And I hated it. You were so annoying and I hated that fucking car. Then one day, I was driving to work and I didn't see your car. Usually I would have seen it at Granny's or at your parents', but I didn't see it anywhere. I remember being upset at you because I thought you left Henry without saying anything."

"Riiiight. Upset because I left Henry. Sure." Emma said with a knowing grin.

Regina glared at Emma playfully. "As I was saying," she continued, ignoring Emma's cheeky grin. "I thought you left. I got to work and headed to my office, ready to call you to give you a piece of my mind, but then there you were. You were sitting outside of my office with late budget reports in your hand. Apparently, your car was in the shop and you were driving the cruiser that day."

"I feel like you could have left out the part about the budget reports being late. Not really necessary to the story." Emma grumbled.

Regina grinned and shook her head. "It was then I realized that not only your car, but that color, started to represent something different to me. I no longer saw it as a threat or something to get it rid of. I started to see it as safety and happiness. I had never noticed the color yellow before, but suddenly it was everywhere. The more I thought about you, the more I saw the color. I'd see someone wearing a yellow t-shirt, or a yellow bow in their hair. The sun seemed to shine a little brighter every day." Regina shrugged. "I don't ever remember noticing the color yellow. It seemed to blend in with everything else. But now, it's the first color I notice, because it reminds me of you." Regina finished, with a small smile.

Emma leaned in and kissed Regina softly. "If we weren't already getting married, I would definitely ask you to marry me." Emma said, causing Regina to laugh and kiss her again.

"You know, you still owe me an explanation." Regina said, pulling back to look at Emma.

Emma raised an eyebrow. "An explanation for?"

"You said that red isn't your favorite color, and I want an explanation." Regina said, crossing her arms.

Emma chuckled. "Oh. Well firstly, what made you think it was my favorite color? Have I ever even mentioned it before?"

Regina stared pointedly at the red leather jacket the blonde was wearing.

Emma followed her eyes and laughed. "Okay babe, just because I wear this jacket sometimes, doesn't mean it's my favorite color!" Emma pointed out.

Regina opened her mouth in shock. "Sometimes? Emma, you asked if you could wear it at the wedding reception!"

"You still never actually gave me an answer on that, so like…are you still thinking about it or?" Emma asked, only to get a blank stare from Regina. Emma sighed. "You're right. It'll look tacky if I'm the only one wearing one. You should get one too! Yours can be yellow and I can buy another one that's gray!" Emma said, excitedly.

Regina frowned. "Gray?"

"Oh yeah, that's my favorite color." Emma said, simply.

Regina sat back; her face skeptical. "Gray. Gray is your favorite color?"

Emma nodded. "Yep!"

Regina hummed. "You've never mentioned it before."

Emma shrugged. "I didn't know I was supposed to."

"Was it always your favorite?" Regina asked.

Emma shook her head. "Nah. My favorite color used to be the color of my eyes, which sounds very narcissistic, but I promise you it wasn't. Growing up in the system was just so fucking unstable and I needed an anchor, ya know? Something to remind me that everything was real. I needed something consistent and the only thing that was ever consistent was the color of my eyes. I remember looking in the mirror in every home I went to, and no matter how messed up I looked or how messed up I felt, the color of my eyes was always constant."

Regina smiled a small smile and brought her hand up to Emma's cheek. "They are quite beautiful." She whispered, getting lost in Emma's eyes for a second. "So, what changed?"

Emma smiled and sighed. "I came here. I came and dropped off the kid, and you trotted down the sidewalk in that gray dress." Emma said, grinning.

Regina scoffed. "I did not trot."

"Sure." Emma said, rolling her eyes. "But anyway, you gracefully trotted down the sidewalk in that gray dress, and I remember thinking it didn't look right. You didn't look right in gray. Don't get me wrong, you looked gorgeous, but there was something about you wearing gray that rubbed me the wrong way. When I cut down a part of your tree you were wearing a gray dress. When I walked in the station and you were sitting on my desk, you were wearing a gray coat. It seemed like every time I found myself a little more drawn to you, you were wearing gray. And it just…bothered me, and I couldn't figure out why. Then it seemed like you stopped wearing it. Or maybe I stopped noticing, I don't know, but there was like…a lull. And then I remember the day I promised you a happy ending. You were wearing gray then, too. I hadn't noticed it that entire day, but at that point I did. Then I realized why it always made me uncomfortable when you wore gray."

Emma paused and looked at the wedding board. "You have to promise me, that when I tell you this, you won't overuse it when it comes to the wedding planning and decorating the house or whatever."

Regina raised her eyebrow in question. "Um, I promise?"

"No, Regina, I want you to really promise me. You can't make it a big deal. Scout's honor."

"But I'm not a scout."

Emma rolled her eyes. "Regina."

Regina smirked. "Fine. Scout's honor."

Emma sighed and folded her arms. "I studied a lot of color theory in jail. The scientific and psychological parts of color."

"You what?! When?!"

"I literally just said when I was in jail." Emma said. "There was this lady in there that used to be this big interior designer and she taught me a lot about it. When I wasn't learning to dance, I was reading books about color theory. Which is why I can tell you that that orchid card and that amethyst card are the same color and somebody fucked up when they made them."

Regina quickly leaned over and picked up the two cards. She looked at them intensely before looking back at Emma. "Damn it, you're right."

Emma hummed, as she leaned over to pick up a gray card. "What do you see when you look at this? What does this make you feel?"

Regina looked at the card for a while before shrugging. "It's just gray. It doesn't really make me feel anything."

"See? Gray is usually seen as a neutral color, or is represented as like, depressing or dreary or something, but…every time I saw you wearing gray, it just didn't match up. You wearing red makes sense. You're passionate and loving and fiery. Blue? Yes. You're loyal and wise and intelligent. Hell, even if you wore pink, it would make sense. You're sweet and cute and affectionate. But gray? Gina it just didn't match. I could never use 'neutral' or 'depressing' or 'dreary', to describe you. You're not 'indecisive' or 'impartial'. It can be seen as formal and elegant, sure, but it's never seen as anything more, and that…that's not you. It's the only color I've ever seen you in that just match up to you."

Regina frowned. "But you like it?"

Emma smiled. "I love it. You redefined the color for me, Gi. Now when I see gray, I see it as strong and lovely. I see it as perseverance. I see gray and I think 'damn, life really can get better.' Gray means that there are always possibilities. It gives me hope. The day I slipped up and told you I was in love with you, do you remember what you were wearing?" Emma asked.

Regina nodded and smiled as she remembered that day. It seemed like it was such a long time ago, but she could never forget it. "I was wearing the gray dress that I wore when we first met."

Emma nodded as she took Regina's hand and pulled her closer. "Mhmm. And then the day when we proposed to each other, you remember what you were wearing?"

Regina frowned. "It wasn't a dress."

Emma shook her head. "Nope. You were wearing some black leggings and my gray hoodie." Emma grinned as she looked down at Regina's outfit. "And I bet you haven't even noticed what you're wearing now." Regina looked down and chuckled at what she saw. She was wearing a gray pantsuit. "See? You've given the color gray a new meaning for me. It's strong and full of possibilities. Never dull or neutral. It's sophisticated and lovely. It's perseverance. It's hope. It's you." Emma finished, pulling Regina into a chaste kiss.

Regina smiled into the kiss, completely content with staying there forever. "I love you." She mumbled against Emma's lips, causing Emma to grin.

"I love you too. More than anything." Emma said, looking into Regina's eyes. "So, I think it's decided that we're going to do gray and yellow?" Emma asked, leaning her forehead against Regina's.

Regina nodded slightly. "And white."

"With sunflowers."

"And white roses." Regina added.

"I love it. I love you." Emma said, kissing the tip of Regina's nose, making the brunette grin.

"Not as much as I love you." Regina said, planting another kiss on Emma's lips. Just then they heard the front door open and a familiar voice followed.

"Regina! Your favorite sister is home, so you can stop wallowing in despair!" Zelena called out.

Regina rolled her eyes as she waved her hand, making their wedding planning materials vanish. "Favorite sister? She's my only sister."

Emma chuckled as she stood up. "I guess that's my que to go back to work. Have a great rest of the day baby." Emma whispered, before kissing Regina and disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Seconds later, Regina's phone pinged, Emma's name flashing across the screen.

Knight In Tight Pants: so….is that a yes to the jackets?

Regina rolled her eyes and grinned before replying.

Queen of S(ass): I don't hate the idea.
