Chapter 0: Shiro
The noise was strange. Alex had never heard anything like it in his five years of life, it was high pitched and came in short bursts. The young boy sat up in his bed and listened for the distant sounds location. He wasn't entirely sure but it seemed to be two rooms down the hall. Sneaking out of his bed the boy glanced to the matching bed on the other side of the room to see his younger twin Jason still sound asleep, his brother was blessed in a way. Not having to hear arguments from two floors up or become ridiculously irritated by a simple change in temperature. Moving over to the door Alex tried to open it only to find it was locked, because of course it was. It was simple to get around but annoying regardless. Biting his thumb he pressed it against the lock and filled the inside with blood, he then made it harden and twisted his hand unlocking the door. slowly opening the door cringing as the hinges squeaked loudly while Jason shifted in his bed. The strange noise only got louder as he entered the hall and stalked down to the room he suspected the noise was coming from. He didn't know what the word on the door was supposed to mean, reading wasn't one of his best skills though he had picked up on a few common or reoccurring words he had never seen the one on the door before, the doctors had never even considered teaching him, he was just a lab rat after all so there was really was no point. As he opened the door the noise hit him at full blast, coming from a small wooden cage in the corner of the barren room. Sneaking over he peered over the side to see the source of the noise.
It was a baby. Alex knew what they were but had never seen one in person. It was very white too, from it's hair to it's toes it was almost the exact same shade as snow. The baby's face was scrunched up and it was screaming.
"Hello." It's small eyes instantly opened and two blood red eyes turned and watched him. Curiosity filled icy blue stared back as the infant whimpered and sat up to better see the boy in the dark. instinctively Alex slowly reached down to touch the baby, his hand was stopped when the baby reached up and wrapped it's hand around the boy's finger. It made what seemed to be happy noises as it played with and shook his finger. Almost as if moving on autopilot Alex reached over the cage and scooped the baby up into his arms without thinking. The five year old smiled as the albino baby rested against his chest making soft noises, and then his smile faded as the infant started sniffling before once again screaming at the top of its little lounges. "Hey hey hey, whats wrong?" he asked softly bouncing it up and down. Maybe the poor thing was just lonely? there was no one else in the room to keep the child company or even just to check if it needed anything. "Do you wanna sleep with me and my brother tonight?" The boy spoke softly as he continued to bounce the child. Though the crying didn't stop at his suggestion it did soften enough for Alex to believe he could sneak it through the hall.
Making his way back to his own room Alex did his best to keep the infant comfortable, supporting it's head and slowly rocking it as he came through the door, closing it and turning around to come face to face with his twin brother Jason. Alex said nothing as Jason looked from Alex to the baby and then back to Alex.
"Alex, did you steal a baby?" The younger twin accused clearly coming to his own conclusion, one that personally offended the elder boy as he had rescued the baby in his own perspective.
"No, I just found it in a room!" The Albino shifted uncomfortably in his arms as Jason crossed his arms and said.
"And you just grabbed her? That's stealing!" Alex's scowl matched Jason's as he took a step forward and shot back.
"But it was crying, and no one was watching it!" Though Jason wanted to argue against that point the boy simply couldn't think of a counter so he simply stood there with his arms still crossed and a frown on his face. Then something else about the baby caught his eye, something that Jason honestly didn't know how he hadn't noticed the instant he saw it.
"Why is it so white?" The infant started to whimper as Alex shrugged and replied.
"I dunno, maybe we could ask mom tomorrow?" The baby in the boys arm reared it's head back and once again let out a high pitched cry. Jason covered his ears while Alex simply sighed and rocked the baby in an effort to calm it.
"Why is she crying?"
"I don't know are we being too..." The boy furrowed his brow at the realization that the baby had filled it's diaper. That was something no one had ever mentioned about having superpowers, being the first to smell everything unpleasant or being more affected by loud noises got very annoying to the young boy very fast. "Oh..."
"Oh?" Jason tilted his head as Alex held the child out at arms length with a pained expression.
"I know what it's crying about." He turned to his brother and with a hint of desperation asked. "Do you know how to change a diaper?" Jason blinked as he tried to figure out why Alex would want to know that, and then the smell hit him too. Pinching his nose Jason raised a slightly more important question.
"Do we have diapers?" Alex groaned before turning to the bathroom and deciding to wing it, it couldn't be that hard to clean a baby right?
By the time the twins were done with the task they considered the bathroom sink unusable. With no replacement diaper Jason suggested folding an old shirt over the Albino baby's lower half. So with the Albino laying under a shirt Alex got to folding. As he went to make the first fold Alex noticed something of note.
"Hey it's a girl." Jason made his way to the opposite end of the baby girl and sat in front of her head wiggling his fingers to keep her entertained. It seemed to be working as she giggled and reach for the fingers just out of reach.
"What's her name?" Jason asked brushing his fingertips against her forehead as Alex finished up the folded shirt. It was a messy and loose substitute but it would work for now. Alex picked the baby girl up before answering.
"I don't know, I didn't see a name anywhere in her room." Jason thought about it for a moment, he didn't know any girl names besides his moms and Sorae's. He didn't want to use those names though, the baby needed her own after all. Then an idea popped into his head.
"Well how about we just call her Shiro for now?"
"Shiro?" Alex didn't see anything wrong with the name, even if it was very on the nose. The baby herself smiled before reaching back up to Alex "She likes it, alrighty Shiro it is!" Looking back to his brother Alex saw something in his brothers eyes, it hadn't even been an hour since Jason had laid his eyes on the infant yet there was an undeniable attachment from Jason. A smile formed on the older brothers face as he offered the infant to his twin. "Do you wanna hold her?" Jason's face immediately lit up as his brother made the suggestion.
"Yeah!" Alex was slow as he handed the infant to his brother carefully putting her into his arms. Alex watched for a moment before noticing Jason was mostly holding her waist.
"Make sure you hold up her head." Alex gently moved Jason's arms to better support the infants head. Jason could hardly sit still as he almost bounced up and down trying to contain his excitement. Alex on the other hand yawned as he glanced to the clock, at three in the morning it was way too late for them to be up. "Come on lets go to bed, we can play with her in the morning." Jason nodded and made his way to his bed, laying against the wall and laid Shiro in the middle of the bed. Or he tried as the baby's fingers clung to his shirt keeping her close to his chest. Jason was absorbed by the adorable sight until he noticed the bed shifting. Looking up he saw Alex laying down on the edge of the bed.
"What are you doing?" Alex rolled his eyes as though it was the most obvious thing on earth.
"If she rolls around to much she might fall of the side." That sounded good enough to the younger boy. Besides he was tired anyway.
"Oh, okay. Goodnight Alex."
"'Night."
A/N: Hey guys, just wanted to put out this little chapter to give an excuse for where I've been. So to cut the bullshit my computer died. my hard disk is fucked and i have lost pretty much everything Including the backlog of chapters I was working on, so as of now this story is officially on hiatus until I can afford a new PC as I don't feel right re-typing chapters out on my phone (This shorter bonus chapter was a serious bitch to write) so yeah, sorry for anyone who was actually keeping up with this but as of last month I have not been able to get any serious work done and have in fact lost my entire backlog because I was too stupid to put the docs on this site like I should have from the beginning.
Sorry and I hope you aren't too let down by this
Eric
