I gave it a few minutes before I cracked the door open. I silently sat on the ground with my ear to the door.
It was no surprise that they were talking about me. Mostly about my dream that I didn't want to tell them about.
I picked at the carpet. Something tells me it wasn't a dream but a memory. I can't tell what's a memory or not. Which is why they want to know and what if this guy was real. They would be sad.
I softly shut the door and went to the bed. No use fussing right now, there was nothing I could do. That feeling didn't sit well with me. Could I go back to the island and figure out what happened? There was no use in dwelling on it, right now I was tired and I knew more and more people would be coming to see me.
I don't know how long I actually slept but when I woke up I felt refreshed and the bright sun let me know that probably everyone was here.
Sure enough when I stepped out the chatter I heard stopped. And from around the corner leading into the living room Jake appeared. He took three long strides before he was in front of me.
"Everyone's here Echko. We can help you."
Michelle was the first to speak, "We should take this slow. We don't want to bombard her. She may never remember and we have to accept that."
Sean nodded, "Start from the beginning, what do you remember?"
And just like that we were diving in, even though I needed a shower. But looking at their faces they were hoping I would remember.
The story wasn't long to tell. I fell asleep on the plane.
"You don't remember the storm we flew through."
I shook my head. "I fell asleep and next thing I remember is waking up at the hotel. I thought maybe I was at the hotels island but looking out the window I figured I wasn't and the hotel receptionist told me I got in the night before and paid cash."
"Which brings us back to the money." Sean muttered.
I looked and no one was surprised so everyone was caught up while I was asleep. I stared at the ones that didn't come in early in the morning. They stared back in shock, taking me in since I was supposedly missing from five years ago.
I scooted closer to Diego and Jake followed.
"My backpack is full of cash and there is a check from Rourke."
That got Aleisters attention. "Let me see it."
I nodded, "I'll go get it." I walked slowly back to my room. I know we just started but it seemed like too much.
Before I reached the room I turned around and called for Jake.
"Yes?"
"Do you have any spare clothes? I want to shower."
He nodded, "Yeah I'll bring you some."
When he walked away I went to my backpack. Opening it slowly I dug around for the check. That pale guy seemed pretty interested in it for some reason.
I heard Jake when he came back in the room. I had a feeling it was because he wanted to be heard and that if he wanted too he could be silent.
I turned around and retrieved the clothes, handing him the check in return. "I would like to shower first. Here take this to them. I'll join when I'm done."
He was about to reply before I saw that the clothes he handed were female clothes. I honestly thought he lived alone.
He must have seen my confusion, "They belong to Amy, she's… I don't know." He looked uncomfortable.
"Jake are we married?" I asked remembering the ring now.
He shook his head, "Bu-"
"Then it's okay. Even if we were married the fact is I've been gone for five years. I think I'd be glad you were able to move on even if I did remember yo-."
He grabbed my shoulders and I could hear the check crumple in his hands.
Startled I looked up and to my surprise I saw he was angry.
"I love you."
My eyes widened in shock but before I could respond he pulled me in. All too soon I felt his rough lips on mine. It felt like this was urgent for him until he relaxed and very softly moved his lips.
I didn't remember him but it was like my body did. My body reacted like I was in desperate need of air and he was the lifeline giving me oxygen.
I kissed him back and he groaned. He moved his hand-the one without the check-down to grip my waist.
It was then I remembered that even though my heart felt like it was bursting I didn't actually know who this was.
He must have felt when I stopped and pulled back, "Sorry." And he grabbed the crumpled check and walked out fast.
Sighing I stood there thinking about what just transpired between us.
I really was disrupting their lives.
I slowly went to the rest room and when I dropped my pants a rock fell out and scattered to the tub. I could tell it wasn't just any rock and upon closer inspection it looked like it was part of a missing piece. It looked oddly familiar but I couldn't place it.
I'm so terrible at writing kissing scenes and stuff so SORRY
