Chapter 7
A month has passed.
They had gotten into a kind of crude normal. Kate was homeschooling Alexis. They home-cooked meals and took turns doing it. Rick continued to trade days with Mikhail. Inessa and Alina came over to spend time with them. Kate didn't mind because that allowed her to practice speaking Russian since Inessa's English wasn't the best.

Rick looked over at his daughter. "Do you agree with Kate?"

Rick chose to glare at the both of them. "Do I get my breakfast now?"

"I'll need to know the name of the pills you were using and give you a physical to determine what type is best for you," Bulan replied.
So Kate underwent a physical and waited for her birth control pills. Bulan returned to the exam room. "I agree with your previous doctor and approve your type of pills. Due to the lack of use for a month, it will take time for this to start working. You'll have to wait a week before having sex."
"I understand and thank you. Do you also happen to have any condoms?" Kate asked.
Bulan reached into a nearby container and gave her a handful. "Is this enough?"
Kate nodded. "That should work fine, thanks."
"You're welcome. Please return in a month's time for a refill," Bulan told her. "I have a complete list of options."
Kate scribbled a reminder on a piece of paper so she could remember to put it on the calendar. "Come on, Alexis. It's time to go home." Kate took her hand and headed back.
Once there, she found Rick still working. Satisfied, Kate spent her time teaching Alexis.

A short time later, Kate served up the day's lunch. "One slider for you and two for me."
Once lunch was over, Kate was ready to get back to work. "Okay, sweetie, back to your studies."

"Did you get some writing done?" Kate asked him.

Kate's eyes lit up. "That sounds nice. Thank you." She kissed his cheek. She liked that he was willing to include her dad. "Any idea what we would do?"
Rick nodded. "I thought we could go to the Kids Club. While it might be for kids, adults can use it too. We'll need to remember to bring sunscreen."
"That sounds nice. If we go late enough, we can have lunch in Glow and then use the pool, provided we can slather enough sunscreen on Alexis. With her fair skin, she can't be outside too long," Kate reminded him.
"Yeah, that's an issue," Rick agreed. "But we can overcome it if we keep a close watch on her."
