Chapter 18: Epilogue
"It seems that once again, the forces of good triumph and order has been relatively restored." Chet Ubetcha announced in a new broadcast. "As of this broadcast, the landmarks of the world are slowly but surely being brought back to their proper places. However, law enforcement members are once again baffled at this turn of events. Could the one who stole them possibly be doing right by returning what was stolen, or is there some other motive? Either way, this is Chet Ubetcha once again asking who is this mysterious hero that has taken action, and what will he do now?"
Back at Sheldon's house, the scientist was just returning home from applying his official resignation from further services with the Bank of Evil when he saw the girls lounging up next to his mother, who was showing them baby photos of Sheldon.
"...And here is whenever I got my tiny little Shelly out of the bathtub. He was just too cute for his own good back then," she told the three of the kids.
"Mommy? Wha-ahem, what are you doing here?" Sheldon demanded, after shaking off his feeling of surprise and awe of seeing his normally stern mother being warm towards his children.
"Oh, hi there, Snickerdoodle!" his mother greeted. "How come you never told me about these three darling angels you adopted?"
"To be honest, I always thought you weren't the slightest bit interested in how I live my life," Sheldon answered.
"Nonsense, Shelly!" Sheldon's mother answered. "Nothing makes me prouder than to say you've become a great parent."
"Fascinating. So that's all it took to win her approval?" Sheldon thought as he sat down with his Minions beside him as his mother continued to show her new grandchildren photos from the album. Eventually, enough time passed that it was badtime for the girls.
"Come on, you three. It's time for you to go to bed now," Sheldon instructed.
"Do we have to?" Sally asked.
"Read us a bedtime story! Read 'Three Sleepy Kittens'!" Sweetie Belle requested.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but that book disappeared under mysterious circumstances; but I have one that's even better. It's called 'One Big Unicorn'. And I wonder who wrote it... oh, what a coincidence! I did!" Sheldon told the trio as Sweetie Belle giggled.
"This is going to be the best story ever!" she cheered.
"Not to pat myself on the back too much, but I think it will too," Sheldon answered as he began. "There was one big unicorn, strong and free, who thought he was happy as he could be. But then little kittens came around and turned his whole life upside down."
"Hey, that one looks like me!" Sally pointed out, observing one of the kittens illustrated.
"Wha- no. That's a little kitten, any resemblance to persons living or dead is merely coincidental. Now, where was I... they made him laugh, and made him cry. He should've never said goodbye; and now he knows he could never part from those three kitties that changed his heart," Sheldon continued, his voice shaking on the last line of the story, as he fully realized how meeting the girls changed him as a person. He then closed the book and walked over to give the sleeping girls goodnight kisses, and when he went over to Karin, she got up and hugged Sheldon.
"Love you, Dad," Karin told her adoptive father as he hugged her back.
"I love you too, dear," Sheldon told Karin as she then went back to bed and Sheldon walked back to his room when he was stopped by the Minions outside the door, who also wanted goodnight kisses.
"What? No, it's not going to happen!" Sheldon grumbled, as the Minions frowned in disappointment, one of them actually at the point of breaking into tears. "Rats, okay, fine." The minions then lined up as Sheldon gave them individual forehead kisses, knowing one thing for certain: life was starting to become a little less despicable for him.
Well, that's the end of the story. Someday, I think I'll do the sequel, but it won't be anytime soon because I'm going to be more busy with work and online school courses during the summer. Anyway, thanks for following the retelling of Despicable Me all the way to the end; I hope that if you liked it, you would leave a review to tell me what you think.
