Lucas still intended staying true to his promise and at least trying to fix things with Peyton and Jake for that matter, but the game schedule kept him pretty busy and away from Tree Hill. He sometimes would be with Nathan when Haley called and so he heard a little bit about what was going on on top of the gossip magazine headlines he caught along the way.
There still were rumors about Peyton and Jake dating but it had died down considerably ever since Magazine had stopped reporting on the matter. He decided to go for a run again. In the last couple of days he felt, that he couldn't keep up with the rest of team as easily as before and thought more training would be a good idea. Maybe also talking to a doctor… He shook his head to get rid of any worries, plops his headphones in and leaves the apartment building.
Nathan for his evening had decided on doing some reading and relaxing in front of his TV. The next weekend they could get home was also the album preview party for Jake. Peyton apparently had organized a big night at TRIC and even Haley would be playing a short set. Getting her feet wet again so to speak. His brother hadn't indicated any more animosity or feelings of anger or jealousy as of late but you could never know. Even years after high school it seemed that they only needed to be near each other as a whole group and their former personas shone through.
God, I sound like a girl!
Nathan was glad that his phone rang to stop this weird train of thought. "Hey Brooke. What can I do for you? Or are you just calling to annoy me?" "I would never call just to annoy you. Then I would just visit!" he hears the teasing in her voice and chuckled. But his chuckles died the second his door bell rang. "Please tell me that isn't you?" Now it was Brookes time to laugh. "Sorry to disappoint but I am sitting in my own living room. But wouldn't it be fun if I had just shown up at your place?" Nathan had figured out that someone had pressed the wrong bell or had played a prank because no one answered the intercom and he chose to ignore the last question from his old friend. "Now, seriously Brooke: why are you calling me?"
Friday night Nathan had packed up the car and was now only waiting on his brother to finally be ready. This weekend for sure was going to be interesting. Not only was Lucas going to try to mend his friendships but there also was a rather huge surprise waiting for him. Nathan still couldn't really understand what Brooke all had been rambling on about in their last phone call but now there was nothing left to do but drive to Tree Hill and make sure Lucas would show up at TRIC. And how had Brooke put is so candidly: not start a wildfire…! That last part was the one thing he couldn't be completely sure about and so he decided to ask: "What are you going to do when you see Jake and Peyton? What if there really is something between them?"
"When exactly did you turn into a girl, Nate?" Lucas sighed, but you could clearly hear the teasing in his voice. Nathan chose not to raise to the bait and simply waited for his brother to answer. "Firstly, I need to apologize to them, but I am sure Haley already told you about that revelation of mine. The second question is a little bit harder, but I guess I can't expect her to wait around for me forever and seriously we broke up forever ago. Maybe she should be with Jake. And it might also do me some good to find someone new."
After that they switched their conversation to easier topics like basketball and the outlook for their team.
When they arrived in Tree Hill Nate dropped Lucas off at his home, with a reminder to show up for brunch at his house. After their good byes both men thought the same thing: Tomorrow will be interesting.
Wow, 8 years ... is anyone still reading this? Anyway, I hope to finish this story, really I do. And I kind of changed it up from my original planned songs for the record party. I chose to update that part and hope to get it ready quick. (This will be 30 chapters max.)
