The DMA awakens
May's POV
My body ached. I didn't know it was possible to feel this much pain.
"Ugh, Mew, one of them got away with the girl," Oakley said.
I wanted to move by Latios' side and reassure her it was ok.
"At least we got one of them," Annie said lightly.
"One of them might be all we need," Oakley purred, "Especially when we'll have this."
They walked up to the fountain.
I wanted to scream at them to stop, but my voice seemed to be missing and all that came out was air. Don't take it, I said in my head, it was important to the city of Alto Mare.
Oakley stuck her hand into the water and grunted as she struggled to remove the soul dew from it's little pond. "Ugh, stubborn gem."
"Don't break it," Annie insisted, a worrying quiver to her voice.
Oakley growled. "That doesn't seem to be a problem."
I heard a click as the gem was removed from the pool of water. It made me cringe. It was never supposed to leave.
"Got it," Oakley said proudly.
"Ahhhh, let me see that for a moment." I could only watch Annie snatch it off her and hold it to the light. "Oh, it's so beautiful. It's moving, almost like it's alive."
"I found it."
Oh Mew help us.
"Well, I mean yes," Annie said, "But shouldn't it belong to both of us?"
"No no, that's not what I'm talking about." Oakley typed up furiously on her laptop. "Come check this out."
Annie started towards her partner in crime. "What is it?"
"The etchings in this stone explain how to use the soul dew to power the DMA," Oakley said.
"Didn't we already have that from the book we stole?" Annie asked.
"No, don't," I cried weakly, but they didn't hear me.
"This has a lot of stuff the book didn't have," Oakley replied.
I could hear the electronic bleeps, sounding like something was happening on screen. But I couldn't see and my vision seemed to be fading slowly.
Latios let out a cry and I jolted myself awake. I couldn't pass out yet. I had to know what they were going to do with the DMA.
"Shhh Latios, your time will come," Oakley said in a sickening sort of lull.
The voices next sounded somewhat hushed and I struggled to make them out.
"What's it say?"
"Hold on, it's written in some kind of code."
"Can you crack it?"
"Hmph, what can't I crack?" Oakley snorted. "It says… The defence mechanism must only be used as a last resort, for it'll cause all the water to recede and destroy the soul dew."
"Ohh, I don't care about the water, but we can't destroy my beautiful gem," Annie said.
They were going to destroy the town.
"Our gem," Oakley said, snatching it back.
"Careful!" Annie squealed.
Oakley made a sort of noise crossed between a huff and a hum. "I don't think that's a problem. They probably made it up so people wouldn't try to use the defence mechanism against them."
They were going to destroy the town with their ignorance and I couldn't stop them.
The pain was getting to Latios and I both. I watched as Latios curled up, head dropping and falling limp.
My vision flashed and soon I found myself following suit. The sound of water draining was the last thing I could hear before everything faded.
When I came to, I was out of the weird net thing that had been thrown around me, but my limbs still felt weak and drained of energy.
I seemed to be on the back of the spider Pokémon while Latios was being dragged along in a web, helped along by the Espeon.
Poor Latios looked dirty and bruised with a few scrapes to show for the rough treatment. She whined pathetically at me and I gave a groan back.
"Oh look, she's awake," Oakley said.
"Oakley, what do you think we should do with her?" Annie asked.
"Well after we activate the machine, I guess we should tie her up," Oakley said.
I could feel myself slipping off the back and onto the cool ground. It felt slightly metallic if anything and my fingers fell into a small groove. I was on the circular pad.
"Ariados! Wrong one, you were supposed to put Latios in the rings," Oakley said, sounding frustrated.
I saw a faint green glow.
"Wait, Oakley, look," Annie said.
I saw her point to me in a haze, her finger raising slowly. I was vaguely aware of a floating sensation around me, but I didn't expect to see a metal band cross my vision.
"What do you know?" Oakley said, sounding interested, "That's odd."
"Oakley! What does this mean? Is she a Pokémon after all?" Annie asked.
Oakley squinted her eyes and tipped the sunglasses over her eyes. "No, she seems to be completely human."
"This is strange," Annie said.
I looked around and found I was levitating off the ground. I could see red power lines going from the circle I was hovering above.
"Oh my gosh, Oakley, it's working." Annie looked astonished, like she hadn't believed it.
"Cool," Oakley replied.
The defence mechanism opened, the barriers falling away.
"Perfect, it's just like the book said. We only have one more thing to do," Oakley said, with a grin that seemed somewhat malicious.
"AH! Just what do you think you're doing!" It was grandpa.
"MAY! What's happened!?" Bianca screeched.
Oakley smirked. "I guess you're a light sleeper."
"Don't worry," Annie purred, "We can help with that. Espeon, psychic attack."
Espeon growled and I saw my cousin and grandpa enveloped in red as they groaned in pain. They fell to the ground and Annie waved.
Oakley strode forwards and plonked the soul dew into the ignition of sorts. The DMA flung itself into action.
"Look at it go!" She exclaimed excitedly.
Misty's POV
Latios dropped me through the window of our room and I hurried to flick the lights on and wake the boys.
Ash gave a groan and tossed over. Drew gave a groan back and shoved himself up, before slamming his eyes closed and covering his head.
Brock ran a fingers through his head, also making a noise of protest. "Misty, it's past midnight, what are you doing?"
"May's been taken!" I exclaimed, "And Latios!"
"What!?" Drew exclaimed, bolting up and then blinking against the light.
"When did you Latios?" Brock asked.
I shook my head and pointed to Latias. "We met them, see? I'm not lying."
I shoved Ash over, who was stubbornly sleeping and he screamed in protest at being dumped out onto the ground.
"What's the deal Mist?" Ash grumbled.
"Latios and May, they're in trouble," I said shortly, "We have to rescue them."
"Wait, wait, what exactly happened?" Brock asked, "I think I'm missing some details."
I groaned in impatience. I didn't have time to explain. I was already searching for my Pokéballs, clipping them to my belt when I found them.
"We met Latios and Latias," Ash said to Brock, yawning loudly in the middle, "and they were being chased by two weird girls."
"And somehow May knew them too," Drew said, getting up to dress.
I'm glad one of us had sense of the urgency.
Latias squealed and her eyes glowed blue.
"It's happening!" I exclaimed.
"What is?" Brock asked.
"We're going to see what Latios is seeing," Ash replied, suddenly more awake and (I though inappropriately) excited.
The image I immediately saw was of the museum. We were in the room where the DMA was. Bianca and Lorenzo were tied in a web and Ariados was pacing back a forth.
And then I was horrified, looking in the direction they were staring in.
May was floating in a set of rotating rings. A strange greenish light was coming and powering the DMA. However, the look on May's face terrified me more than anything else. It was contorted as if she were in immense pain, and yet the rest of her seemed as limp as if she were dead.
"May!" Drew yelled, trying to run forwards and grab her.
He ran into what seemed like an invisible wall, stopping him from reaching the vision of her.
"Wait, what are those girls doing?" Brock said, pointing down to them.
We watched the purple haired girl climb into some sort of control orb. She sat down and two bars were brought down.
I couldn't hear what she was saying, but I could see her lips moving as she was speaking. A screen materialised in front of her hands.
She smirked a sickening smirk. I wished I could know what she was doing. I wish I could get out of the vision and go already.
I watched as some more light came from the machine and slipped into the bones of the fossils.
May flinched, the first movement I'd seen her make.
In a flash I saw the fossil Pokémon rise up.
Ash gave a gasp. "It's the fossils
"The evil fossils," Brock said, "Aerodactyl and Kabutops… But how did they come out?"
"I think they used May's life," I said quietly.
Drew slammed his fists angrily.
The fossil Pokémon went out of sight, one using its wings as an aerial advantage, while the other made use to dart quickly on its legs.
All of a sudden, Latias' eyes finished glowing and we were back in our room. Drew was pressed up against a wall, which was likely what stopped him before.
Latias flopped against the ground and Ash knelt by her. "Latias, are you ok?"
Latias gave a slightly exhausted reply, but shook herself off and raised into the air again.
I could hear some sounds coming from outside, so I moved to the balcony. The others followed close behind me when I stopped. I was astonished to see iron bars of sorts appearing and barring the streets.
I watched one of the balcony's being barred up and realised quickly what was happening. So I climbed on the edge and jumped out over. "Latias!"
I plunged into the water, hearing Ash's cries muffled as water invaded my ears. I let out a few bubbles and then followed them to the surface.
There was a large splash next to me, but I swam to the edge.
"Misty! Wait a moment!" Ash yelled, disappearing from the edge.
Latias made a noise and I watched her dive down. She came up a moment longer, holding Drew.
"Drew?" I asked.
"You might need some back up," He replied, shaking his watery soaked hair out of his face.
I gave a determined nod. "Alright. Time to leave."
Me: Well, I did another and it didn't take half a year. I might be getting back to it.
Drew: *Grumbles* Yeah, well you really didn't have to write this bit.
May: What are you complaining about! I'm the one stuck in there!
Ash: I thought it was supposed to be Latios.
Me: Ahhh yeah, this is my major twist! You knew I had to have it somewhere! They're using May to power the DMA! And Misty and Drew were the ones to get out.
Misty: It's my turn to be a hero!?
Me: Why yes, I guess so.
Sorry this one took again, longer than I planned, but I still did it. I feel like I say this every time, but I've been having a few problems, specifically to do with health. And I'm going to be really busy soon. So I ended up just doing this at the pace I wanted to do and enjoyed it much more than anticipated. Maybe I can finish this in good spirits after all!
But until next time! Enjoy!
