Fifteen
The brother is weird. He's decently looking. Cassie is pretty excited he's here. She squeals hugging him before kissing Emmett on the cheek.
Bella took the knife out of my hand at that point. Told me I was too dangerous to be cutting up the fruit.
New Years had arrived and I'd spent every night of the past few nights moaning into his ear.
I often caught myself staring at him. Impressed by how little he was giving away. No one would know. I think Alice did because she winked at me when she caught me staring at him.
My anger right now is that he couldn't be my kiss tonight. I couldn't kiss my secret fiancé and begin our new year of hope together.
"I was thinking July 18th," Bella says.
"Huh?" I look at her.
"The wedding," she shakes her head at me, "the date for wedding."
"Oh right," I nod, "that's cute. Are you thinking about the city for location?"
"Actually, no. Edward was saying he'd like to have it back in Seattle. Something woodsy," she shrugs, "I know a few vendors that way now."
"That would be romantic," I nod.
"I floated the idea of a destination wedding," she shrugs.
"Where?" I ask.
"Perhaps somewhere with a beach. Fiji or Hawaii maybe?" She shrugs.
"Oh I could get a tan," I gasp, "do that."
"He needs more convincing," she says.
"Have you tried sex?" I look at her.
"What conversation am I about to interrupt?" Emmett stops short of the kitchen bench smiling.
"Bella's going to have a destination wedding," I say to him.
He walks up behind me, careful to not catch any notice from our company, as he palms my ass. I glance back at him, glaring through my smirk.
"It's not decided! Edward isn't sold completely," Bella corrects, cutting through a strawberry.
"Oh. Have you tried sex?" He mimics.
I laugh as he leans over to take from her pile of cut up fruit. She slaps his hand, shaking her head with annoyance.
"You're my sister now. It's my job to annoy you," he teases her.
"You still have Alice," Bella reminds him.
"Yeah she is evil," he shakes his head, "she threw my action man down the garbage disposal because I said her princess dress was ugly. We were 7 and 5."
Bella and I both laugh, as he reaches for more fruit. Hurrying away before his hand can be smacked again.
"He seems perky," Bella says once he's out of earshot.
I want to tell her. About everything. The engagement, the sex, the case. But I don't want to take her thunder or have her freak out. No one else can know about Emmett's case. It'll be compromised.
We all have to trust Emmett is good at his job. I know he's the best police officer on the planet. I'm sure everyone here would agree - minus the step fuckers.
"He touched your ass didn't he?" Bella asks quietly.
I almost don't hear her.
"How?" I look around as if the room is bugged.
"He's sly but not that sly. I know you both too well," she shakes her head, "just be careful. Don't be the other woman."
"She's technically the other woman," I shrug.
"I just don't want you to get hurt," Bella's expression turns to concern.
I want to reassure her, but I just nod.
"Besides it's New Years Eve. We could go out and find you a nice man who's willing to be your kiss," she shrugs, "Edward can loan me out to you worst case."
"I don't want to kiss you," I scrunch my nose up.
"Gee thanks," she rolls her eyes, "since you mentioned that fucking Grinch thing Edward has mentioned it daily since we got here."
"Marvellous," I laugh out, "we should tease him with it. Play a prank. Where is the nearest Taco Bell?"
She nods enthusiastically.
"You're on," she nods.
Alice had found some sports bar. It was pretty busy, with everyone crowding bar tables, booths and the bar to ring in the new year.
Cassie sits unreasonably close to her step brother, giggling as he points something out on her phone.
They don't know it, but Emmett is watching.
"I hate that I can't kiss you tonight," I catch him as he heads toward the bar, walking beside him.
"You will just not at midnight," he looks down at me, "when will my diamond arrive?"
"Diamond?" I'm confused.
"You proposed. I want a Tiffany," he smirks at me.
"You know what that means?" I ask.
"Nah. But when I was looking up rings for you the receptionist at work said chicks dig her," we stand at the bar, Emmett tries to flag an attendant down.
He was looking at rings for me?
"She isn't a person," I laugh, "it's just the name of the store."
"Tiffany isn't Tiffany?" He looks at me.
"Well it was. It was founded by a man though," I watch his face turn to shock, "wait till you hear about Victoria's Secret."
The bartender stops before us as Emmett recovers.
"I'll get one old fashioned," I say, "my fiancé here will grab a beer."
The bartender nods, moving to get to work.
"Has a nice ring to it," he glances down at me, "it'll sound better when I have my Tiffany."
I roll my eyes smiling and shove him playfully.
"How's it going with step fuckers?" I ask.
"You did not give them a name," he looks at me, holding in a laugh.
"You knew exactly who I meant," I shrug.
"Good. Somethings definitely up," he hands the bartender a handful of notes as our drinks appear.
"Do we bug their phones?" I ask.
"Charlie's Angels isn't realistic police work, baby," he smiles at me.
"How would you know? You didn't pay any attention to it," I turn to head back to our little booth.
Alice sips water, Jasper is talking expressively with Bella, while Edward watches Cassie and Alec intrigued. Esme and Carlisle opted to watch the ball drop at home.
Before I can make it toward them he stops me, his mouth near my ear.
"I was busy eating you out from behind," he growls into my ear, squeezing my ass with his grabby hands, "next time I'll pay more attention to the movie."
I'd rather there be no movie at all.
The countdown to midnight happens in a blur. I notice Edward chatting with Alec, while Cassie listens in. Seemingly cautious.
Alice, Bella and I gossip, Jasper chiming in. Emmett keeps an eye on Cassie but a closer eye on me.
When the countdown to midnight begins I look at my phone saddened. Watching my friends cuddle closer together in preparation. Cassie moving closer to Emmett like a praying mantis about to fuck and then eat their prey.
I can't watch him kiss her so I turn my head, watch Alice and Jasper share a kiss instead. Alec catches my notice though. He watches Cassie and Emmett, hands tight fists on the table. I know their kiss was nothing more than a peck. The kind of peck you'd give your grandma.
Bella's hand darts out to mine once Edward is done with her.
I smile at her and squeeze her as she pulls me into a cuddle.
"Happy new year," she says.
"Happy new year," I kiss her cheek, "I love you."
"Oh I love you more," she pulls back.
"I think I might go home," I say, "this sucks when you're single."
"What no!" She is outraged by the idea.
"Yeah babe," I pry her arms off me, moving to grab my things.
"No. You can find someone," she takes my hand again, "there's cute guys over by the pool table."
"That's not it," I shake my head, "I just don't feel great."
Emmett catches my eye, concern on his face.
"Let me get Edward to walk you to the car. I want to make sure you get in safe," Bella motions for him to get his attention.
Edward easily agrees, wrapping a brotherly arm around my shoulder as we walk.
"I love him," I say as we stand and wait for the Uber, "I told him."
Edward nods, smiling with relief.
"It's about time," he nudges, "he loves you too. I see it every time he looks at you."
"I know," I nod.
"Did you notice something weird between Cassie and the brother?" He asks suddenly.
"What do you mean?" I play dumb.
"We'll he kept mentioning a boat they have. A yacht," he shrugs, "and she mentioned spending the weekend with him alone."
"Oh gross," I roll my eyes, "they're fucking."
His head snaps to me.
Whoops. Drunk Rosale is a bitch.
"Sorry what?" He asks with a shocked, single laugh.
"I assume so," I turn away from him.
"Rose," he turns me back to face him, "do you know something?"
"Do you?" I ask.
"Don't answer a question with a question," he points at me.
"It's just a guess. They have a weird chemistry," I check my phone, "my Uber is almost here."
"You know I'm not done with this," when the Uber pulls up he opens the door for me.
"I didn't doubt for a second that you would be," I tap his face with my hand before slipping into the car.
The door shuts, but opens again immediately.
He starts to get me into the car, motioning me to slide across.
"What are you doing?" I ask moving across the back seat.
"I'm sick," he pulls shut the door, pulling his seat belt on.
"You look fine," I smirk at him.
"Yeah but if you ask Cassie I have a migraine," Emmett looks at me, "besides I might have a lead. I need my sexy partner's help. Cassie and Alec will get a ride home with the others."
We hold hands the ride home, kisses pressing to my knuckles as we go.
