Title: Say My Name
Author: JoeHundredaire
Rating: PG-13/FR15
Disclaimer: Captain Fangirlhumper… err, J.K. Rowling owns the world the Harry Potter series takes place in. Wish the characters were mine so I could do utterly retarded things to them and watch my bank account get steadily larger, but sadly not mine. Like the Marvel universe, the DC universe is a copyright nightmare due to creator ownership battles and the like even if you're just going to cherrypick from one specific movie. Not mine, don't sue, et cetera and so forth.
Summary: "…say my name so my powers may flow through you."
Joe's Note: I don't even remember how long it's been since I added a chapter to this story, but I had a few new ideas brought on by this spring's blockbusters and so… well, here we are again, I suppose. Same format as before on these: simple one-shots playing with ideas that drift through my mind enough times that I need to put them down on paper. So to speak. Because these are digital. You know what I mean, though, right? Anyway, let's get started with the first of two chapters based on spring 2019 superhero movies…

Luna Lovegood hummed softly to herself as she leaned against the window, watching the English countryside roll by outside. Or was it Scottish yet? She hadn't owned a watch since the nargles had stolen hers back in her second year at Hogwarts, and her command of the tempus spell was middling at best. Probably the English countryside, she decided; they hadn't been on the train long enough for the witch with the trolley to make even a single pass yet.
Her journey on the Hogwarts Express each September was simultaneously Luna's favorite and least favorite part of every year. Her favorite because, well, it meant that she was going back to school. Like every other Ravenclaw, she genuinely enjoyed learning, soaking up each lesson with eager abandon as she strove to become the best witch she could possibly be. And what few friends she had were at Hogwarts as well: Harry, Hermione, Ronald to a degree, Neville… Ginny as well, although both she and Ronald lived close enough that Luna could see them during the summer if she so chose.
On the other hand, going back to school meant that her adventures with her father would be put on hold for another nine months. That the undiscovered would have to remain so for at least that much longer, because he no longer went on expeditions without her accompanying him and she obviously couldn't go on creature-hunting expeditions while at Hogwarts. But in the end, that was okay. Creatures like the crumpled-horn snorkack had gone this long without revealing themselves to the world. A few more months wouldn't hurt things, would it?
Looking around the cabin, Luna found that while she wasn't exactly being ignored by her friends, each of them was otherwise occupied with something else for the time being. Harry and Ron were embroiled in yet another game of wizard chess that Harry seemed to be well on his way to losing, while Hermione had her nose in a book as always. Neville likewise was reading a herbology text that wasn't part of the syllabus, and Ginny was leafing through the most recent issue of The Quibbler. Hmm. At least she was making good use of her subscription?
Suddenly, there was a jolt and the train began picking up speed. As Luna watched in disbelief, the countryside began speeding past faster and faster, until everything was a blur of multicolored light. Then the view was taken from her, the window of the compartment icing over despite the fact that it was a balmy late summer day. Turning to ask her friends if they were seeing what she was seeing, Luna's jaw dropped as the other five occupants of the compartment turned into so much as dust and blew away. "What in Merlin's name is going on?"
Just as suddenly as its acceleration had begun, the train came to an equally unexpected stop and Luna let out a squawk of surprise as she tumbled to the floor. After resting there for a few seconds to catch her breath, Luna climbed to her feet and looked around. Maybe someone else on the train knew what was going on? A prefect, or maybe there was a professor riding with them like during her second year? But as she made her way out of the compartment and then down the hallway, she was greeted by a series of compartments just as empty as hers. Everyone in the entire carriage was gone, and she somehow doubted she'd have better luck if she tried the next one.
That left her with one course of action: stick her head outside and see where the train had come to a stop. For that matter, someone had to have stopped the train, right? That meant there was at least one person left behind even if everyone else was gone. And so Luna made her way to the end of the carriage and opened the door, stepping down into… a dimly lit cave of some sort. That wasn't right at all; the Hogwarts Express passed through a handful of short, man-made tunnels on its route but nothing like this. Forget trying to figure out where her friends were… where was she?
Apart from the oil lanterns gleaming in the windows of the train, the only light seemed to be coming from deeper in the cavern and so Luna slowly made her way toward it, her gaze sweeping back and forth for any hint of an answer to the increasing number of mysteries she was facing. First came a hall lined on one side with what appeared to be broken statues… and then a grander chamber with seven stone thrones sitting in a half circle with a giant golden lightning bolt on the wall behind them. And in the centermost of those seats was a man. An older and disheveled-looking man, granted, but still a man. Finally, Luna could start seeking the answers to all her questions. "Hello? Are you the one who brought me here?"
"Luna Lovegood." Struggling to his feet, the dark-skinned man slowly stumbled his way across the platform that the seven thrones were arranged on before descending a series of steps to stand in front of her. "I am the last of the Council of Wizards, keeper of the source of all magic: Rock of Eternity. Seven thrones for seven wizards. But long ago, we chose a champion… and we chose recklessly." Waving his staff, he released a wave of orange energy that formed into a majestic glowing man who loomed over a crowd of smaller people for a moment before diving into them, creating a giant gaping hole. From that hole sprang seven monstrous figures that whirled over the remaining crowds, whittling them down into nothing. "He used his power for revenge, releasing the Seven Deadly Sins into your world. Millions of lives were lost, entire civilizations erased from existence. That is why I vowed to never pass on my magic until I found one truly good person. Strong in spirit, pure in heart."
Looking from the wizard to the tableau that he'd conjured for her to watch and back, Luna cocked her head to the side. "While pure of heart is infinitely debatable, I'm reasonably certain that I'm not what anyone would consider strong of spirit. I can't even get my housemates to stop stealing my belongings."
The wizard let out a gusty sigh before closing the distance between them, resting his weight heavily on the strange staff that he used as he leaned closer to her. "That you are too gentle a soul is a forgivable sin in a champion, Luna Lovegood, especially since you are all that I have. All the world has." He took a moment to catch his breath before inhaling and drawing himself up to his full height. "Lay your hands on my staff and say my name so my powers may flow through you. I open my heart to you, Luna Lovegood, and in so doing, choose you as champion."
"This is all very sudden and serious. I'm supposed to be on the train to my sixth year at Hogwarts right now. Not… being someone's champion." Stepping back, Luna shook her head sadly as she stared up at the surprised-looking man. "I don't think that I'm the one you're looking for."
Whirling around, the man appeared to grow angry at her words, pointing his staff first at the crumbled remains of several statues that Luna had passed on her way into the chamber before gesturing to the empty thrones on the platform behind him. "My brothers and sisters were slain by the Seven Deadly Sins! Their thrones lie empty! My magic must be passed on. You are here because you are worthy of my attention, worthy of my power. Now, speak my name!"
Luna wrapped her arms around herself, rubbing her hands back and forth along her arms as she continued to stare at the volatile wizard uncertainly. Like she'd openly said, this was all very sudden. She had absolutely no idea what she was getting into, what being a 'champion' entailed, what responsibilities and expectations would come with having this wizard's 'power flow through her'. But if he was being earnest and the world was actually depending on her… how could she say no? There was just one problem. "I don't know what your name is."
The question left the wizard looking a bit abashed as he offered her a crooked grin. "My name is… Shazam."
"I suppose it would have been unrealistic to expect something common like Harry or Ron, wouldn't it?" Luna stepped forward, closing the distance between them once more as she reached out and wrapped one hand around Shazam's staff. "So I don't have to do anything fancy? Just… Shazam?"
Despite the fact that they were in some sort of underground chamber, lightning surged downward and struck Luna, sending electricity racing through her body. As she gasped in surprised - and not a little surprise at the utter lack of pain accompanying being struck by lightning - Shazam threw his head back and laughed. "Yes! Carry my name, and with it you carry all of my powers: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury."
When the light faded, Luna looked down and quickly realized that things were… different. Not terribly so, but noticeably so. And not just because she was in a red dress trimmed with a glowing yellow lightning bolt adorning the chest. The ground was a little further away. Her arms and legs were a little more muscular. Her chest was a little… chestier? "Well, this is going to be difficult to explain to my friends. And my father. Definitely my father."
"You have been transformed to your full potential, Luna Lovegood." Despite looking visibly fatigued, Shazam waved the head of his staff in a circle and conjured a floor length mirror beside him. Luna bit back a gasp at the sight; she'd aged several years in the blink of an eye. "With my power comes your own ideal form; this is who you strive to truly be."
Oh. Evidently all she really wanted out of life was to be old enough to graduate from Hogwarts, then? She wasn't sure how to feel about that, to be honest…
Luna hummed softly to herself as the Snatchers led her out of her father's house. Her house too, obviously, but technically he was the owner and so it was his house. She could see him in the window, pressed against the glass desperately as his only daughter was led away to an unknown fate. All for the 'crime' of having the poor taste to befriend the Boy-Who-Lived. She was more than likely being taken as bait; given that Harry had a bit of a 'saving people' thing and that tendency was reasonably well known at this point, Voldemort presumably hoped that Harry would return from wherever he was hiding to try and save her.
Little did he know that she wouldn't need saving.
Looking around, she grinned as she realized they were reaching the edge of the ward line. Her father was a big proponent of privacy, and the Rookery was home to powerful anti-apparition and anti-portkey wards that kept anyone who didn't know the password to their floo from dropping in announced. It created a quarter of a kilometer bubble around the house that they were rapidly nearing the edge of… and one of the men had a portkey. So they were all going to have to cluster close together to be transported to their destination. Perfect.
"No funny business, girl." The leader of the Snatcher team scowled down at her before gesturing to the old shoe in his hand. "We're going to gather around, you're going to put your hand on the portkey, and it's going to take us back to Malfoy Manor. You make any moves and you'll pay for it, and then we'll come back here and make your father pay for it too. Understood?"
Still smiling, Luna nodded in response as they passed through the edge of the wards and the rest of the group quickly clustered around their leader. Eight strong, they'd sent to bring her in. As if she was some sort of giant threat on par with Dumbledore, or maybe Mad-Eye Moody or one of the other members of the legendary Order of the Phoenix.
Granted, she was a giant threat.
They just didn't know it yet.
Luna reached in for the portkey as she'd been instructed, casting a quick glance around the circle to judge everyone's position. And then right before she touched it, she allowed herself to tip forward. As her body crashed into everyone's outthrust arms, drawing cries of dismay from the assembled wizards, she uttered her first word since the Snatchers had appeared on her doorstep. "Shazam!"
Lighting flashed down out of a cloudless sky, coursing through her body as it reshaped it into her ideal form… before being drawn outward through the many arms she was touching. Some of the Snatchers screamed. One of them let out a wet gurgle that was particularly disturbing to listen to. And they died, one and all, falling victim to the incredible power that was hers to command thanks to the wizard Shazam. Floating a foot or so over the ground, Luna smoothed her hands down the front of her red dress before sighing resignedly. "I was going to let the prophecy take its course, but I guess it's time for me to get involved after all…"
