The world is so interesting a vast. Its full of history, history that's honestly not taught in school. I love it!
That said I think we can thank Google for the majority of these chapters. If anyone has more intel on any of these topics or a correction feel free to message me. I am open to suggestions and can take just about any hit. I wont cry…to much.
Oh and in case anyone's curious, I don't really like Nakatsu's first name so we are just going to pretend it does not exist.
Nakatsu's POV
Ok maybe I should have listened to Sano when he told me to just stay in his apartment while he ran an errand. The idea just seemed…so boring. Granted being here is not what one would call entertaining, at least it shouldn't be.
Let's start with Watanabe Ema, ok I heard she was short, but I didn't think she was going to be that tiny. She is a walking contradiction to be honest. Appearance wise she looks like a 9-year-old that raided her mothers' closet. Yet, even though I don't really understand her English/Japanese mixture to much, I can tell that she is a lot more mature than me inside. Even I feel like I have to shape up and get moving, and I don't work here.
*Cough,cough, sniffle, sniffle*
No walking bean stalk….I do not see you.
*Hacking noises, sniffle*
Ok really kid, why are you here? Everything about the kid shouted, 'I rather be anywhere else.' And to be honest I can't tell if he's confused because of a language barrier or if that's just his typical face. One thing I do know is that he must be the kid Kelly, Kenny, Benny or whatever that they were laughing about before. Coach would have a field day with a kid like him.
Suddenly Ema claps her hands to conclude the meeting and everyone bows, even Kenny. Before I can make left from right a young girl rushes to my side and grabs my arm. I barely have time to have a good look at her but I instantly recognize her because there is only two people in the whole room that have a dress on and the other girl I met last night. I'm having a lot of trouble understanding her Japanese but we both clearly understand Ema's fake cough. Almost like a switch was flipped she calms down and pulling down her dress she sneaks over to, what I guess is her manager, with her head down.
"Hey! Can you make out where she's from?" Juan says, causing me jump as he appears out of nowhere.
"Um, is she Japanese and American?"
"Yup, she was born in Okinawa, her dad was stationed there when he met his wife. Because of her skin tone some people confuse her for Filipino. And what about me my friend? Can you tell where I am from?"
I have been holding back since I got here so I let loose and examine him as much as I can. Considering his expression, this happens very often. "Ugh, you are.." His eyes are a bit slanted but not really in the Asian type of slanted, wait is that a thing. That isn't a thing right? All I know is that he reminds me of a player that was on a South American team….Ecuador no um argh why am I so geographically stupid.
"Ahh you are….um...from that one country…ugh P..Peru?"
"Oh wow." Ema says coming in from behind. Is this an American thing? "Right on the first guess."
"Oh wait!" I say getting excited. "Did I really?" Looks who's not so stupid?! That's right, I am! Ha ha. "Wait that doesn't explain how you speak Japanese though."
He laughs before answering "My great-great grandparents were Japanese and moved to Peru in search of "gold". While they didn't stay in the same town, they always tried to live in areas that had a large Japanese population. Like the town that I grew up for example, classes were taught in both languages."
"Which is why your Kanji is a lot better than mine." Ema said sighing.
" 'Better'? Yeah sure let's go with that." Juan says mockingly.
"Ugh excuse me! What is wrong with my Kanji?" Ema says placing both hands on her hips and puffing her chest out.
The two start to argue but no one else seems to care. This goes on for a while and its very entertaining to watch. I will take this to my grave but Ema looks like a little bird when she argues. Or so I say, as I continue to watch it becomes harder to hold back from laughing. Both suddenly stop and look at me.
"Ugh…umm…Well you two get along."
Ema turns bright red and clears her throat "Well this seems to be going nowhere." She readjusts her shirt, obviously embarrassed. "How about we agree to disagree." With that she extends her arm for a hand shake, trying to act professional. But…I did mention she looks like a 9 year old…
Juan ignored her hand and just gave her a bear hug. No fair, I wish my friends would hug me like that.
"You ok there my friend?" Juan asked looking me up and down.
I open my arms.
"Nah I don't hug guys."
But I don't let them finish. Before they know I have them in a tight squeeze.
"Fool get off me" my new friend says pushing me off. Surprisingly he is a lot angier than what I thought he would be, Im talking past Sano level angry. I cant help but remember some of the members on my team. But at the end it all worth it when I hear Ema burst out laughing, and dare I say it sounds soothing.
"Ha ha ha" she says pointing to Juan. I can tell that she is mocking him but its in English. She than takes a deep breath and wipes away her tears. Taking a couple of deep breaths, they both cool down. They only proof of their exchange is her bright red face.
"Ready to work my friend?" she asks.
"Yuuuup boss" Juan says adjusting his shirt.
They both wave and leave. Leave me all alone. Ok not all alone but the only people left are Sano and Ema's…step father? Either way they are busy going over important information.
I take a self-tour around the room, not that there is much to look at. That's when I notice a section a handful of frames, but instead of pictures they each have a piece of paper that have printed sayings on them…oh and they are in Kanji.
"best way to shut them up is to prove them wrong."
"the loudest wins the battle but loses the war"
"Everyone will label you...no matter what you do"
Umm ok sure why not?
"You should have seen the original version of the last one." Sano says and I jump.
"Why?! Why does everyone sneak up on me?"
"Because you are an idiot." He says smacking my forehead.
"Ow" I say as I follow him down the stairs. Although its far I can hear how busy the restaurant is. But I didn't have to imagine it for to long as Sano directs me to the public section. He waves to the hostess that are busy running around trying to accommodate the guest.
She simply gives him a thumbs up and he directs me to a booth in the far corner and leaves me there before going to the kitchen.
Great…I love being left alone…not.
