Jesse watched the scene with sharp eyes. She had been going through what was now known as the "Rosewood 4" case about the missing young women when she had found a photo of the girls taken on Mona Vanderwaal's funeral day. Jesse remembered almost spitting her coffee when she had seen the picture. It had also made her reach up to look at the file of one of the missing girls.
Looking back at her was the picture of a girl who bore a striking resemblance to the way Emma looked back when she had been hit by Danny's car. It was for that reason that Jesse had called Mac and informed him of the sudden turn of events. Truth be told she was hoping that if her theory was correct, Emma's arrival to Rosewood and meeting the Marin family would somehow trigger her memories, bringing them back to her.
Watching as Emma remained still while Ashley Marin hugged her, Jesse quickly concluded that her idea didn't work. Clearing her throat, Jesse made her way to Emma once Ashley released her. She noticed Danny was studying the scene carefully as well. Furthermore he had gone into what Jesse referred to as his big brother mode. He was worried about the impact that sudden hug would have on Emma's mind.
-"'I'm sorry, but do I know you? Who are you? And who is Hanna?" Emma stepped away, studying the woman in front of her. Her mind was full of questions. Who was that woman? Did she know her? Was she this Hanna that was just mentioned? Were they related? Was that the reason Jesse asked her to come to Rosewood?
-"Emma, Danny. Why don't we go somewhere more private and I'll try to explain what's going on here." Jesse quickly excused herself, leading Danny and Emma into an interrogation room. She stopped herself before entering, looking back at the clearly devastated Ashley Marin who was now being held by her husband, Ted. Today was going to be a long day.
-"Jesse? What's going on? Who are all those people? And who is this Hanna? And why am I here?" Emma felt anxious to get as many answers as possible. She had noticed that everyone in the police station acted apprehensive around her. She just couldn't understand why they would do that.
Jesse took a seat across from her and Danny and started talking. She explained to Emma her findings and watched as her friend's eyes sparkled with interest and a drop of enthusiasm at the idea of her identity being revealed. Emma turned her head to look out the window, noticing that the woman who had hugged her before was now sitting in a chair, a look of total loss and despair written on her face. "Who is she? The woman that hugged me before?"
-"If our suspicions are correct that woman is your mother, Ashley Marin. She raised you as a single parent after your parents divorced and your dad remarried." Jesse studied her friend, carefully going through the details she felt Emma could know. When Emma had been diagnosed with amnesia, doctors had warned her that anything could trigger her memories. "Maybe you should talk to her? Perhaps it might trigger one of your memories?"
-"I'm worried that this is not a good idea. Maybe we should wait and do some tests and see if you're correct. And perhaps only then should Emma talk to her? What if this is a wild goose chase? What if you are wrong? I don't want to see Emma get her hopes up only to be let down." Danny interrupted his friend, concern filling his voice. He, too, was worried about what this would mean for Emma and the way she would be impacted by the present situation.
-"Danny, I want to do this. I need to do this. I need to know if there's the slightest chance that I am that woman's daughter. I want some answers. Just let me talk to her, ok?" Emma pleaded with him, watching the silent communication taking place between Jesse and Danny. While she understood their concern, she was also desperate for any type of answers, even if that meant taking such a huge emotional risk. "Tell you what. You can test my DNA and fingerprints while I talk to her. That way we will only have to wait until the results arrive to know if I really am this Hanna person or not."
-"Fine. I just hope it doesn't blow up in our faces. Em, no matter what happens, we're here for you, ok?" Danny reluctantly agreed to Emma's decision. Jesse got up from her chair and headed to the door. Turning her head to Emma, she smiled at her and Danny.
-"I'll have someone take a blood sample and your fingerprints while I inform Mrs. Marin of what's going on. Talk to you in a short while. Please just wait for me here, ok?" Emma and Danny nodded their heads, silently watching as Jesse briefly spoke to one of the officers in the reception area before she headed down to talk to Mrs. Marin and explain the situation to her as well.
-"Mrs. Marin? Hi I'm Detective Jesse Angell. I was assigned to the case involving your missing daughter and her friends. As you know we might have found your daughter, but things are a little more complicated than that. Could you please give me a few moments of your time? There are a few things that you need to know."
Ashley Marin nodded her head, raising herself from her chair while Ted left to go get her a glass of water. Jesse led her to another interrogation room. Closing the door behind them, she invited Ashley to sit down. Once she did Jesse pondered how to explain the current situation to the woman in front of her.
-"Mrs. Marin, five years ago Detective. Danny Messer, the man sitting in the room next to us, and I were on a mission when someone suddenly threw herself in front of our car. As a result that person lost all of her memories. We now call her and know her as Emma Taylor and I have strong reasons to believe, and you probably do as well, that she is your daughter Hanna. However, unfortunately for us, we will have to wait for her DNA lab results to confirm her identity as she currently still has amnesia."
Ashley silently listened to Jesse's words, pain and despair consuming her. She had spent the past five years praying that she would one day get Hanna back. And now that she did, Hanna didn't remember anything about her past. What cruel punishment was this?
-"What about the other girls? Do you have any clues about their current whereabouts? Or if they are still alive?" Ashley finally lifted her head to look at Jesse. The other woman nodded her head, aware of how painful this entire conversation must be for her.
-"Sadly, no. But rest assure we are doing everything that we can to find them and sort through the events that led to them disappearing into thin air. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go and inform the rest of the parents about what is going on. In the meantime you can talk to Emma if you like, but I advise you not to get your hopes up. It would do neither of you any good if this is a false alarm."
Ashley silently walked to the door and followed Jesse to the room where Emma and Danny were waiting for her. Once they entered it she noticed how a police officer was busy taking the young woman's fingerprints and another took a blood sample from her. Silence fell in the room as the police officers left, leaving Ashley to face 'Emma' and the two detectives.
-"Em? I'll go grab us some coffees and call Mac and let him know what's going on. And I'm sure Jesse has some stuff to do as well. We'll give you some privacy ok?" The pair left the room, leaving the two women to face each other. Emma carefully studied Ashley. She hadn't gotten a good glance when they first met, but now she was curious about the woman standing in front of her.
-"Mrs. Marin? Would you like to sit down?" Emma quietly invited her. Ashley silently took a seat in front of her, not daring to break the moment that the two had. "As Jesse probably told you I have no idea who I am or what is going on. So could you please tell me more about Hanna?"
Ashley nodded her head and prepared herself to answer all of Emma's questions when the door suddenly slammed opened to reveal a dark haired, chocolate eyed man, dressed in a leather jacket and jeans, staring at Emma. Ashley frowned seeing him there. Apparently news in Rosewood still traveled fast.
-"What are you doing here, Caleb?" Ashley asked, surprise in her voice, while Emma turned her head to study the man in front of her. The pair locked eyes, staring at each other before a police officer showed up and removed Caleb from the room.
-"Who is he? Who is this Caleb?"
