Gazing at her boyfriend, she still cannot but help to feel the guilt clawing at her heart for leaving him when she thinks he needed her most. Her heart is heavy inside of her chest, eyes sad and he notices it straight away as they drive. "What's wrong?" He asks, furrowing his brow, concern dripping into his voice. She hasn't told Matt about John's confession and she feels all to guilty for leaving.
"I'm sorry, again, I hate the timing of it all." She admits, lips pouting and thoughtful look on her face. He lets out a tiny huff of amusement, no heat behind it.
"When is the time ever right for anything?" Matt question, and she knows he has a point but it doesn't help much.
"I wanted to be there for you after Vicki left."
"Alexis, this isn't the first time she's left like this. She actually at least said goodbye this time." He tells her. "Plus you were, you called me everyday and you were doing what was best for us when you went up there."
"What do you mean?" She queries. Matt looks at her and she doesn't quite understand, she's always too much heart, but he loves that about her. It's endearing.
"You needed the time away, I needed time to myself and after what Dr. Beckett said going there was the best thing you could do." As he says that she didn't really realise that thing thing he was needing was to be alone for a while, it eases her heart and confuses her but she lets it be. People have different ways of healing, Matt probably had a lot of things to think about and just wanted a time out basically from everything. She can understand that.
"Maybe you're right." Alexis breathes out, sinking back into her sear and he 's just like her to say maybe and not admit outright he's correct. Because in there time apart Matt realised just how sure he was about Alexis. And it as absolute.
"Obviously I'm right. Now where'd you want to get lunch? We can go to the diner just in town or wait for the grill?" He questions and she perks up at the mention of couple end up spending the rest of the morning together, the end up getting their meal at a small cafe in the middle of town. It's nice, tranquil, and not too busy. They just sit there, eating and drinking as the discuss things. Matt expresses this desire, and admiration about the home they stayed at completely captures the girls undivided attention. "It really was beautiful there. Your uncle said to make sure to let you know we can drop in any time. He actually gave me a key-"Matt knows that John doesn't really want people knowing where the house is, he's seems quite secretive - now Matt's eyes are starting to open in his mind and he's not too sure, still denying it - But Matt can understand why John would offer them that, a sanctuary, a safe place, an escape where no monster can find or tred.
"He gave you a key?" She cuts in, arching a brow, looking so genuinely surprised and as Matt's heart thuds he slowly nods. She's not sure just how important he realises that gesture is.
"He told me he didn't want to overwhelm you after everything else that happened." It sounds like a question but his mind is a little too distracted to question it fully. It makes her pause, how much John is trusting Matt with her and even giving him a key..that's kindness and love. She smiles a little, her eyes lighting up.
"I'm happy he likes you. That's rare, he doesn't like many people." Alexis admits, her long hair falling slightly into her face, smile on her lips and hopeful look in her eyes as she goes to brush the hair away. John doesn't usually like people, usually she didn't mind to much but now it just feels different. Matt smiles, that tone on her voice if one of pride and admiration, he's happy that John approves because he knows how much her uncle means to her.
"Well make that both of us, because I'm not going anywhere." He says it with such ease and wistfulness that shows no hesitation. It makes her heart swell with love. Her lips curl up in the smile he adores, that look she only ever has when she's around him.
"Good." She thinks if he ever where to that would be the day her heart breaks in two, and she's just so thankful for him. He smiles at her before picking up a fry and putting in in his mouth. She grins, before reaching for her food. They eat for a while until she notices a pause in his movements. "What is it?" She frowns, brow creasing in confusion and concern filling her wide eyes.
"Can I ask you a favour?" He questions, slowly as if something is weighing on his mind.
"Of course. Anything." She assures him earnestly, leaning forward wanting to let him know she'll always be there for him. His lips press into a line and his eyes cast down for a moment.
"Will you come down tomorrow with me to file a missing persons report for Vicki?" Matt asks gently because he really doesn't want to go alone. Alexis brow creases slightly in confusion and Matt lets out a breath. "If something happens to her..I need to know and they'd let us know if they find her."
"It's good to have on record.." She nods along, it all making sense then she moves forward, grabbing his hand. "Of course I'll go with you. I'll go anywhere with you." Alexis swears and Matt smiles but it doesn't quite reach his eyes before he moves his other hand to rest upon hers. Better off together. He feels torn, but with her, she's the one that keeps the stitches together.
The first thing the pregnant brunette faces when she enters her home is her aunt. The women is quick to wrap her up in her arms, as if holding on for dear life but when she pulls away the look she received is not on of a person who is impressed with her actions. Alexis knows her actions where selfish, clearly, she didn't even think about how it'd impacted her aunt. She didn't even call her. Alexis is just lucky Matt told Jenna but Alexis and her talk, coming to an understanding leaving the girl to really think about decisions before making them. Yet, Alexis can't even remember when she decided to go to John's...it seemed like something that had been thrust upon her.
When Alexis enters her room after her small talk with her aunt she notices something is odd. Her room is clean. Cleaner than she remembers she had left it. It even smells clean, in a way that has her nose twitching funnily and her face grimacing in distaste, making her feels rather nauseous. Her suspicious squinting looking doe like eyes flick around her room before she shakes her head and walks over to her window. Ventilating the room would a good way to get the smell to leave, she thinks, so she pulls her bedroom window open. It was sudden and a sharp urge, like a memory almost, making her heart thrum harder and screaming at her to hurry. To jump.
But she doesn't, instead she frowns, peering out to the street from her now open window for barely a moment before stepping back and shaking it off. Strange, she thinks. The pregnant girl doesn't dwell on it instead heading over to her desk, looking at all the new sticky notes, and pile of paper. Confusion dances on her face for barely a moment until she reads them and realizes it's school work. All the school work she must in her week off. She silently thanks her sister but groans as she sees a little frowny face on one of the sticky notes saying she couldn't get the work from a certain other subject. Still though, Alexis appreciates that her sister did that. Either way Alexis realizes she has alot of catching up to do so she doesn't put off making a start.
Unlike most, Alexis Gilbert doesn't find herself feeling drained or dying with her work. Instead she actually feels this sort of peace in getting back into routine and knowledge that isn't about to turn her life upside down to fill her mind, something to focus on. Alexis has always been a girl that finds comfort in fact and truth, mostly. A gently rapping of knuckles against the doorway pulls her out of her studying trance. She lifts her head, turning her face to look over her shoulder just as the person speaks up.
"Alexis." Her sisters soft voice greets her. The pregnant girl slowly pushes herself out of her chair.
"Elena." She breathes out, lips turning to a smile before walking over. Her eyes slip shut as she wraps her arms around her older twin, enjoying the embrace. The hatred, the upset the tenseness feels like it's been washed away and they've been given a new slate. But then as she pulls away, looking at her sister, the both of them wearing identical smiles, Alexis's falters. Elena doesn't know. Something flicker's in Alexis eyes and her twin must be able to see the change in her face because she frowns slightly.
"Is something wrong?" Elena questions, worry in her voice. The younger teen lets out a breath, looking down for a moment. Elena doesn't know the truth, she doesn't know that Mum and Dad were their adoptive parents, not biological. With how close Alexis remembers them being, Elena was always closer to them than she was, Alexis doesn't have the heart to tell her. At least not right now. What possible harm can come from her not knowing for now? Yes, Elena has a right to know but Alexis doesn't want to rob or taint memories that she has with their parents. It's selfish, or is it? She just doesn't have the heart to tell her at this moment.
"No...Nothing. It's just, whatever happened, I forgive you because and I'm sure if you keep things from me it's for the right reason. Or your at least you think you are." She confession, voice soft as she shakes her head. The look on Elena's face warms, relief in her eyes and small thankful smile on her lips.
"That's all I ever try to do. Family means too much." Elena knows the way she goes about it isn't always right but It's important Alexis should know that. "I'm so sorry for the way I've been acting. Everything just..I don't how to react or choose. It's like I can't tell right from wrong, truth from lies and it just feels like I'm at a crossroads all the time. And each road is not one I want."
"As do I. I know things have been hard lately and we've been so disconnected since...We're sisters, twins, we have to look out for one another, no matter what. We should be friends..not enemies. I love you, Elena." Alexis stresses, grabbing her sisters hands and Elena looks up at her younger twin. She smiles timidly. They both can sense that each other is hiding something but right now it is accepted for they both think the secret they keep secret worse and they don't want to reveal it by making the other do the same. The two sisters looks at each other, for they are one and the same, still, it's perfectly strange. They both ruin inside the others veins, they hearts beat as one. The sisters share a smile before pulling each other into a hug, just happy to have one another again, no hatred or bitterness tearing them apart at the current moment. It feels like it used to...just less innocent.
When they pull apart Elena tilts her head offering Alexis to join her downstairs and watch tv. Alexis smiles, they haven't down something together in quite a while so she nods and they go to leave the room. Feeling something against her foot as she walks makes her halt suddenly, looking down to the object. Alexis frowns, bending down, with some struggle, and picking up her phone. Elena turns, looking at her sister who seems fascinated by the object in her hands as she straightens up. Alexis looks from her phone then quickly around the floor." I was wondering where it went...but why's it here? On the floor? That's odd." Alexis frowns, trying to turn her phone on but finding it to be dead.
"No idea? You must of dropped it." Elena shrugs, nonchalantly and tilting her head, bottom lip poking out yet there's a look of anxious in her eyes. She shifts her weight from one foot to the other. "Come on, lets get down stairs or we'll miss they start of the movie!"
After the movie ends, a successful distraction, the sisters part ways, Elena rather abruptly after her phone beeped and Alexis feeling rather to tired to question wakes up a few hours later on the living room couch, her head hurting slightly by an uneasy sleep. She pushes herself to sit up when she hers her brothers voice speak up. "Enjoy your nap? You snore so louuuuuddd." Jeremy huffs out, amusement and mock whine in his voice.
"Do not!" Alexis is quick to argue, even in her sleepy state, as she pushes herself up quickly looks around, searching for him only to see her brother sitting at the counter. He must of seen her sleeping and didn't wake her..she's thankful yet she remembers how he used to always prank her or rudely wake her when they were children and he caught he sleeping outside of her room.
"Do so!" He laughs, and she just shakes her head, bemused smile on her face. Oh, how she had missed him. She slowly walks over to him, watching him curiously as he sits hunched over the counter, focused on the paper in front of him
"So what are you up to? It's midday on a Saturday, I thought you'd be out." She admits, puzzled look on her sleepy face and Jeremy can tell how less on edge she seems.
"Catching up on some studying." Now that surprises her, has her eyebrows hitching up and a grin instantly appearing on her face.
"You are? What subject?" She doesn't sound mocking, like most when are surprised by good behaviour, she instead sounds eager and excited. It makes him feel good. He pauses, and looks up at his older sister.
"Bio." He tells her." Jeremy smiles at her, its tight lipped and shy and he can see the way her face lights up, the pride on her face. Alexis's heart swells for her little brother, her smile flickers for a second, a nasty though in her mind reminding her he isn't her brother but she ignores it. Her relationship with her brother, it's incredible and blood doesn't matter. He doesn't even know. He'll always be her brother. Always. Alexis places a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it gently. She feels so proud.
"Do you need any help?" The girl offers gently and enthusiastically, she's always been good at biology. Jeremy pauses for a moment, squinting his eyes at the book infront of him then nodding.
"Actually, there's something I don't understand about the vari-" He tells, her, continuing and she's quick to sit down at the table next to him, eager to help. Eager to distract herself. It seems so far this past week of distance and thought has done everyone some good.
So this chapter is short and I'm sorry the past few have been feeling abit like fillers but I've been really getting back into this story again, trying to update more and still keep things making sense in the long run. Next chapter is mostly done, and it does have bonnie and some glimpses into both future and past, also lexi, and just allot. Thank you for still reading my story, it means allot.
Also it wasn't my favourite thing too have Alexis forgive Elena..I'm unsure on how that shall go on but for right now and next few chapters it's needed.
Remember to fav, follow and review. Please if you have any ideas about this don't hesitate to let me know.
