Chapter 31
I know this is a massively late update but things have been unexplainable hectic for me but not to worry, things are back on track and this fiction is back :)
I didn't catch a wink of sleep that night. I lay awake thinking about Sirius for what must have been hours. When I finally did doze off, it was with a smile on my lips.
The next morning as I walked down the stairs with Lily and Mary, I saw him sitting on the couches with James and Peter. I noticed he was pretending to be absorbed in conversation with Peter but he kept glancing my way with smiling eyes.
I squashed down a smile of my own and walked past and exited through the portrait hole with Lily without a word.
"Oi!" James called from the corridor. "What's the rush?"
I laughed as Lily pulled my arm faster, though she slowed a little as we turned a corner, allowing them to catch up to us.
Sirius must have spoken to James, because just as we reached the Great Hall, he dropped a wink at me and slung an arm around Lily's shoulders and pulled her through the doors, while Sirius tugged my arm and led me to a small alcove behind the door.
"Hey" he said after a pause, grinning widely.
"Hi" I replied, failing miserably to suppress my own grin.
"So..?" He asked finally.
"..So what?"
"So you're going to make me ask you again?"
I said nothing, butterflies filling my stomach and making me suddenly very nervous.
He sighed, though he still had a small smile on his face.
Taking my hand, he asked, "Bells would you be willing to do me the esteemed honour of allowing me to call you girlfriend?"
Keeping a straight face, I raised my eyebrows, "that's the cheesiest thing I've ever heard. If we are to be a couple then we are certainly going to have to work on that. I don't want people vomiting wherever we go you know."
He grabbed both my hands and yanked me against him, "is that so?" He asked narrowing his eyes.
"Then how about-"
I cut him off by grabbing his head and pulling him down to my lips.
He responded quickly and backed me into the wall.
"My answer is yes by the way" I whispered when we broke apart.
The predatory look in his eyes melted into a genuine tenderness, and he ducked down to give me the sweetest kiss that made my knees weak.
"Let's go" I said.
We walked into the Great Hall holding hands, trying to hide our wide smiles as we were met by a whoop of cheers from the Gryffindor table.
I recalled the memory with a smile as I watched Sirius zoom past James to throw the quaffle at me.
I remembered how we played quidditch in this apple orchard last summer and briefly reflected how things are so different now.
Easily catching the quaffle, I leaned forward on my broom and hurtled towards the goal post, where Peter hovered, looking scared and determined at the same time.
This will be too easy I thought.
I feigned a left thrown and hurled it towards the centre of goal post (A hole in the branches) as Peter swerved left.
Goal.
I turned and hovered, smiling smugly at James and Sirius cheered and came over to give me a high five.
"Not fair, why do I always get stuck with Pete" He complained.
"Because Peter is your girlfriend" Sirius replied, dodging a swipe to his head.
Touching down on our brooms, we headed up the hill to James' house.
Sirius quickly pulled me behind a tree and yelled "we'll catch up to you later!" to the boys, ignoring their gagging noises.
He then proceeded to give me a very thorough snog, with his hands on either side of my head. I leaned back against the tree and enjoyed his attentions.
I pulled back and chuckled after some time, "Sirius, we can't spend the whole afternoon snogging!"
"Fine we'll do something else" he started tickling my sides mercilessly.
Gasping with laughter, I thrashed against him "Alright ALRIGHT!"
He stopped.
"We can snog."
He grinned and set back to my lips again.
"That's a very cruel tactic" I said after a few minutes.
"I know. That's why I'm soothing you with kisses."
He bent his head down again but I ducked under his arm this time and backed away with a playful smile.
"Running away from me now eh?" He leaned one shoulder on the tree and looked at me calculatingly. "You know I'm faster than you, there's no way you can evade me" he said in a mock seductive voice that I must admit, was very seductive.
"Oh come on Sirius, they'll be waiting for us in the house!"
"Let them." Seeing my mutinous expression he added, "We hardly spent any time together at school after we got together because of classes and such and now here we are, free but you want to waste away the time doing other pointless things."
"It's only the second day of the holidays! We have plenty of time for that" I laughed. He could be so over dramatic sometimes.
"And that time starts now" He started towards me and I sighed. There was no persuading him once he wanted something.
The sky began to grow dark and I realised we had been out here for hours.
"We better go" I said, we were sat on a log, overlooking a small lake. My head was resting on his chest and he was idly playing with the strands of my hair.
"Mmm" Was all he said.
"It's getting dark. And...my parents will be at James' house soon."
He stopped playing with my hair at that and I sat up.
"Sirius..I want to tell them. I think mum has already picked up on it but I don't think I could go the whole summer holidays hiding this from them."
I looked down not meeting his eyes, until he put his fingers under my chin and gently raised my face to his.
"Of course we will tell them. tonight?" He smiled understandingly.
I blinked. "Really?"
"Really."
I hugged him around the middle tightly and then pulled him up.
"But Bella"
"Yes?"
"If your dad kills me, remember to bury in a nice spot yeah?"
I laughed and pulled him along.
