"I'll be there soon Double D," Ed said to his childhood friend.

"Thank you, Ed," the line clicked off on the other end. Ed grabbed his keys and rushed out the door to get to the other side of town as quickly as he could. He almost reached his car when he realized that he hadn't locked the door to his apartment.

"Shit," he exclaimed as he almost tripped over his untied shoelaces to rush back up to his abode to lock up. He fumbled with his keys, almost dropping them in the process. Once both locks were locked tight he ran back down to his old truck. He quickly got inside and rammed the key into the ignition. The engine clicked, "please," he mewled to his car as he tried again and on the third try the engine roared to life.

He deftly put the truck into reverse and then in to drive, and raced across town to his friends. He made it in record time, 10 minutes to the usual 17. He might have a few tickets in the mail, but what he walked in to made it worthwhile.

Double D laid over Kevin on the floor, tears flowing down his cheeks and onto Kevin's bruised and bloody chest holding onto his lover's hand like a lifeline. He heard pounding on his door, he hiccuped as he tried to speak. Thankfully whoever was at the door tried the doorknob and he turned to see Ed in the doorway. He whimpered deep in his throat, the only noise he could make at that moment. He could see the terror in Ed's eyes.

"What happened?" He heard Ed ask.

"I'll explain on the way," he tried to stand and almost fell back to his knees, Ed rushed forward and caught him.

"Let's get you both to the truck," Ed breathed as he looked over at Kevin.

"Yes, lets," Double D's voice quivered.

Ed gingerly picked Kevin up, quite easily even though Kevin was almost the size of Ed now. They quickly moved out of the house, Eddward looked back at the mess left on the floor and almost had a moment of feeling unclean but thankfully was brought back to the present as he heard Kevin moan in pain at being moved. He grabbed his keys left on the floor and made sure to lock up the door tight, leaving the lights on within.

Within a matter of a few minutes, he was in the backseat of Ed's truck with Kevin's head in his lap. He made a mental note to offer to clean up Ed's truck after all of this, along with the entirety of the kitchen once everything settled down. He kept his hand over Kevin's chest, feeling hopeless and distraught. He didn't notice they were at the hospital until Ed rushed out of the truck, leaving the door wide open as he ran inside to get someone to help.

After Kevin was safely inside the hospital Edd called Eddy, who of course complained at being woken up "so early". But after some coercion on Edd's side of the conversation, his other childhood friend was there quickly. Edd was glad that after he and Kevin started dating, Eddy slowly but surely warmed up to the idea of having Kevin around. To the point that Eddy treated Kevin like a brother.

Once Eddy arrived, Edd felt that he could breathe easier with his brothers by his side. He still felt a strong inclination to throw up whenever he thought back to how he last saw Kevin, being put on a gurney and strapped in just in case; the last time he was brought here was when he was in a drunken rage and he tried to punch a doctor. Edd laughed slightly at the thought, Eddy gave him a strange look.

"You thinkin' bout what happened here last time sock-head?" Eddy asked with his left eyebrow raised. Edd nodded. "Well at least this time they strapped him down, don't worry about him sock-head, he will be taken care of."

"Thank you, Eddy."

Double D felt both Ed and Eddy push their respective shoulders into his. He hiccuped again, his anxiety and worry making him think the worst was happening behind the closed door where Kevin was being held somewhere within the hospital's corridors.

Several hours passed and in that time Double D had ended up leaning forward, holding his head in his hands as he himself fell asleep. But once he heard the doors leading deeper into the hospital he jerked up so hard he almost fell forward, and thanks to Ed holding on to him for the second time that night he didn't. He looked up at the exact same doctor mentioned earlier with apprehensive eyes.

Before he nodded, the doctor smiled gently at the trio. "You may see him now, but don't rush and don't yell. He is very lucky Mr. Vincent." Double D felt tears prick at his eyes again as he rose on his weak legs. He wanted to run to Kevin's side, but he kept calm and followed the doctor down the maze of hallways to where Kevin was.

Kevin woke to his eyes being close to swollen shut, but as he got used to the bright lights above him he was able to see Double D laying over the side of the hospital bed, their hands entwined. He winced softly at seeing the dried tear tracks on Double D's face. He let his head fall back on to the pillow and thought shit.

He closed his eyes again and kept thinking about how what he had been doing over the last few months behind his boyfriends back. How could I have been so stupid? Why didn't I just tell him the truth? His chest heaved and shook as he began to cry.
