Chapter Thirty-Seven

I looked over to the collapsed building. I didn't know if Tsume was gone, but there was so much going on around me, that there was no time to check. An Iron Assassin came towards us. "Tsume is down." a Water Tribe soldier told him.

"Get everyone." the assassin snarled.

Kinto and I blocked the flurry of nails coming at us. Combined with the various water shots, we were forced to hightail and run. As we ran down the street we saw another assassin flanked by soldiers.

The assassin pointed a finger at us. "Get him, kill his friend."

I took a deep breath and let out a blast of fire, stunning them for a sec. We turned and I made handhelds in a building which we scampered up. A barrage of blasts came at us and we dashed to the edge of the roof.

I made a bridge between the roofs and we scampered across. The growing group of enemies followed us from the streets. As we crossed a bridge I made, it started to crumble. Before I could repair it, we fell towards the street.

I quickly caught myself with a blast of air. I looked over to Kinto and saw him suspended just over ground. "Quick, hurry." said Kaze.

She took a deep breath and formed a large airscooter. We climbed on and speed off. "I knew they wanted you." said Kaze. "But now they really want you."

"We took down Tsume, might have killed him." I replied.

We ran into another assassin, with more soldiers. Kaze veered down the next street and continued zooming. After a coupe more blocks we saw yet more enemies. "Don't turn." I shouted.

"Why?" Kaze replied.

"It's our friends."

The assassin and soldiers were brawling with Tetsu, Sela, and Genji. We drifted to a stop and lept of the scooter. Kaze formed a sharp wind around us, and I helped Tetsu deflect the rocks and nails.

No matter how hard we fought, the enemies continued to bear down on us. More of them kept joining the fight, and few allies joined to help us. Tetsu and I stopped a large rock, and we threw chunks of it at the attackers. Kaze joined in by blasting waves of sand at them.

I ducked and a waterwhip flew over me. I grabbed it and Sela punched out the soldier. She then threw a bola at another soldier, and Kaze knocked him away. The assassins grew closer and then fire grew more intense. Tetsu and I struggled more and more to deflect the onslaught.

Genji threw a gas grenade, but an assassin squeezed it shut with a clench of his fist. A soldier tried to jump him, but Genji hit him with his shock glove. One of the assassins reached our circle and started to grapple with Tetsu.

Tetsu fought hard, but struggled to fight his opponent and shelter us from fire. He kicked and punched as hard as he could, but was thrown to the ground. Sela fought against a couple of soldiers. She kicked and punched against there whips. She took one out with a series of punches, but the other grabbed her by the neck and threw her down.

I covered Kaze and Genji the best I could. I furiously threw every element at the attackers, but my efforts were in vain. Kaze and Genji tried to suffocate them with knockout gas, but more and more were coming.

At that moment I thought it was all over. I guess I had done enough. My time was over. No. I was not giving up. At that moment I felt the power surge throw me. It was the Avatar state. I threw an enormous blast of earth and air all around me.

The enemies were thrown back by the immense power. One the assassins got up and charged at me. I aimed for his head and pushed as hard as I could. The assassin fell to his knees, clutching his face in pain.

I looked around and saw my friends and allies, the fear and despair in there faces replaced by awe. With airbending I levitated to search for more enemies. In the streets the factions still battled each other.

Resistance fighters and Fire Nation soldiers stood on rooftops, exchanging fire with gangsters and White Lotus soldiers. I turned to the buildings with the enemies and dropped there roofs in.

The enemies panicked as the roofs they stood on crumbled under them. Some jumped off onto the street, others fell in among the debris. I flew on until I spotted a large group of Water Tribe soldiers.

I swooped down letting out a huge breath of fire. The brilliant flame extended out of my mouth filled up the street. The soldiers bolted away, terrified by the incredible display. I stomped the ground, cracking it in multiple places.

In there retreat the soldiers tripped over the broken streets and there own bodies. As I moved down the streets I saw a huge group of enemy soldiers coming at me. I glanced behind me and saw I was near the shore.

I reached back and pulled the Ocean towards me. Water flooded up the street, pushing away the soldiers. With powerful gusts I rocked and stirred the water to take down anyone still standing.

I flew on and ran into another pitched battle. I lowered myself down and looked at the combatants to see there uniforms. I sprouted stone pillars beneath the enemies, sending them into the air.

Some of them caught themselves, but others landed hard. My allies rushed in to restrain the downed enemies, and I landed down to assist. I sent wide airblasts knocking down the enemies around me.

Everytime I flattened a group of enemies I turned and found another to take down. When I turned one more time I sent out another blast. To my horror, I realized I sent it towards my allies.

Various resistance fighters panicked as my blast came towards them. They screamed out my name as their powerful gusts knocked them to there feet. Shocked and ashamed I pulled myself up into the air, away from anyone.

I landed on a building and tried to cool myself down. I had know idea how to do that. In my frustration I shattered the building around me. I floated down into the ruble. I began to lash out, cutting through the building.

I went out into the streets, smashing and slashing at the buildings. They crumbled and collapsed, and both enemies and allies ran from me in terror. The more I tried to restrain the Avatar state, the harder it pushed back at me.

I floated up into the sky and began to indiscriminately rain down destruction. I threw massive blasts all around me, demolishing homes, and sending people running in fear. Everyone was terrified of me, even I was.
