Aliens In London

Rose couldn't keep her excitement from showing as she tugged at the key around her neck, gripping it tight as though it could disappear at any moment. She couldn't believe her Doctor had already given her a key, without any prompting, AND he had told her he wanted her to stay.

She felt like her heart could burst with the amount of love and affection coursing through her. She rubbed her thumb over the key, Rose felt the Tardis hum in her mind, contentment and joy wrapping around her and she just relished in the feelings and knowledge her Doctor wanted her for a moment.

OoOoOoOo

The Doctor grinned at her as she walked in, "All sorted then?"

"Yep," Rose beamed back at him, her tongue poking out between her teeth as she smoothed down the Tardis blue leather jacket, "I can't believe she gave me an entire wardrobe."

"She must like you," He snorted and added teasingly, "Don't know why…"

Rose gaped at him for a moment before she slapped his chest playfully, "Oi!"

"So," His smile softened as he looked at her, his gorgeous blue eyes locked onto her like she was the only thing that mattered, "We've been to the future and to the past, where to next?"

"Well…" Rose hummed thoughtfully, "I was thinking before we go swanning off, we could visit my mum," she hurried on as he opened his mouth, "I know you don't do domestics, but I just – I need her to know where I am." The Doctor looked puzzled before she added, "I mean, we almost died with the Gelth, not to mention Cassandra and her pet spiders," Rose grimaced, "I just need her to know what I'm doing, I don't just want to disappear from her life without an explanation."

"Alright, makes sense," The Doctor paused, looking uncomfortable for a moment, "Why'd you think I don't do domestics?"

Rose opened and closed her mouth for a moment, remembering he hadn't said anything this time around about 'no domestics', before shrugging awkwardly.

"Rose," He sighed, "I may not particularly enjoy 'domestics', but she is your mother," He gently cupped her cheek, "Don't ever assume you can't ask me something just because you think I won't like it. I'll never say no to you visiting your family."

She leaned into his hand and grasped it with her own, "I know, I'm sorry. It's just I know she's gonna make assumptions, and I don't wanna make you uncomfortable or-"

"No matter what, nothing is gonna change the fact I want you to travel with me." He cut her off, and smirked, "Not even Jackie Tyler's assumptions."

She grinned back at him, "Keep that in mind when you meet 'er!"

The Doctor snorted, "Right then, Powell Estate, London, 2005."

As the Tardis landed both Rose and the Doctor stepped out, Rose wandered ahead a little as the Doctor leaned back against his beloved ship.

She turned to face him, "How long have I been gone?"

He shrugged, "About 12 hours."

"You sure?" She teased, with her tongue in tooth grin, "I mean last time we landed you were 9 years out and we didn't even land in Naples."

The Doctor scowled back at her, his eyes giving away his own amusement, "Don't you have to visit your mum?"

She giggled, "That isn't an answer!"

"What're you gonna tell her?"

"Just ignoring me completely then?"

"Only the stupid questions," He answered sternly, his lips quirking upwards as she just grinned back at him.

Rose cocked her head to the side, "The truth? I mean, I've got to at some point, right?"

"Up to you," The Doctor raised his eyebrows and added dryly, "She may not believe you've met Charles Dickens and seen the world end though."

"Ha ha," She rolled her eyes, "Do you wanna come with? You could explain better?"

He grimaced, "I'll wait here."

"You sure?" Rose smirked, a mischievous look in her eyes, "I mean, we could show her the Tardis, invite her along-" she broke down in laughter at the utterly horrified look on his face.

"That is just cruel."

She giggled, "Sorry, I couldn't help it."

The Doctor snorted, "Right off you go."

"Alright, I'm going," She headed towards the flats as she turned around and pointed at him, winking, "And you – stay!"

He huffed, folding his arms over his chest looking annoyed even if his lips did twitch as he settled back against the Tardis.

OoOoOoOo

"Mum?" Rose called cautiously as she entered the flat, "Are you in?"

Jackie walked out of the kitchen holding a cup of tea, she gasped in shock as she took in the sight of her daughter, dropping the tea to the floor, "It's you!"

Rose rushed forwards and wrapped her mum in a hug, "I'm sorry mum, I'm so sorry!"

Jackie squeezed her tightly as though she might disappear if she let her go, "Oh, my God. It's you. Oh, my God!"

Rose felt tears fill her eyes as she looked down at the missing posters, she felt guilt overwhelm her as she realised yet again, she had been so consumed by her need to be with the Doctor, she had never considered how her mother must have felt having her daughter drop off the face of the Earth for an entire year.

The Doctor burst in then, "It's not 12 hours, it's er… 12 months," he looked sheepishly at Rose and Jackie, "You've been gone a whole year." He laughed apologetically as Rose rolled her eyes at him and just pulled her distraught mother tighter against her, "Sorry."

OoOoOoOo

"The hours I've sat here. Days and weeks and months all on my own." Rose sank deeper into her armchair guiltily, "I thought you were dead! And where were you? Travelling. What the hell does that mean? Travelling? That's no sort of answer!" Jackie turned to the policeman, "You ask her. She won't tell me! That's all she says. Travelling."

Rose had tears in her eyes as she leaned forward, "I'm sorry mum, I really didn't mean to leave ya for so long, but I was travelling." It was weak and she knew it, but with the policeman there, she couldn't say anything more. She hadn't even had the chance to introduce the Doctor before her mum was on the phone to the police saying her daughter had finally turned up.

"When your passport's still in the drawer?" Jackie scoffed, "It's just one lie after another!" Rose said nothing, she could feel the Doctor's concerned gaze boring into her. Jackie sighed, "You were gone for a year! No phone calls, no messages, nothing! For a year! I was left sitting here on my own, worrying you were hurt or dead or worse," she cut herself off, "Why won't you tell me?"

The Doctor interrupted then, "Actually, it's my fault. I sort of er, employed Rose as my companion."

Rose bit her lip as the policeman intervened, "When you say 'companion', is this a sexual relationship?"

"No!" The Doctor shouted indignantly.

"He's not like that!" Rose bit out at the same time, glaring at the policeman, she jumped out of her seat, "The Doctor, he saved my life, he would NEVER ever take advantage of someone like that!"

"Saved your life?" Jackie asked, throwing suspicious glances his way, her anger getting the better of her as she jabs a finger in his direction, "How old are you then? 40? 45? Because you, you waltz in here all charms and smiles, and the next thing I know, she vanishes off the face of the earth! What, do you go out looking for young girls? Pretending you're a Doctor?"

"MUM!" Rose shouted, "I just said, he wouldn't do that!"

"Oh, how would you know, he could be preying on you!"

Rose stepped forwards and put her hands on Jackie's shoulders, "Mum, he's a good man, he would never prey on anyone, he's," she turned to look at him and she could read the shock plainly written on his face, "we've been travelling together for a year, I didn't think to call but as soon as I did, he brought me straight back to you." She looked back at her mum, her voice breaking, "It's not his fault I was too selfish to consider you or Mickey," She felt a tear roll down her cheek, "I really am sorry."

OoOoOoOo

"You didn't think about me at all?" Jackie asked shakily, her arms wrapped around herself as if to keep her from falling apart, "Just one phone call. Just to know you were alive."

Rose shook her head, "It's not like that!" She trailed off, "The Doctor and me, we was travelling-" Jackie scoffed, "We WERE travelling and I got so caught up in everything that I just…" she trailed off, and looked up at her mum, "I'm really sorry, he doesn't have anyone anymore, it's just me so he didn't think, I'm sorry mum."

Jackie let out a breath and pulled her daughter into a hug as her voice broke, tucking her head into her shoulder and stroking her hair, "Do you know what terrifies me, is that you still can't say. You say that man saved your life, you say you were travelling with him, but you can't say what happened during that time? What happened to you, Rose? What could be so bad that you can't tell me, sweetheart? Where were you?"

"It wasn't bad," Rose pulled away, sniffling quietly, she let out a laugh, "It was the best time of my life, I promise," she grabbed her mum's arms gently, "I will tell you, let me just grab the Doctor and we can show you."

OoOoOoOo

The Doctor was leaned against the wall on the roof as she approached.

"Calmed down, then?"

Rose snorted, "Not entirely, but I told her I was with you, that it was the best time of my life and that I would grab you and we would show her."

The Doctor spun around, "We are not travelling with your mother."

"We missed a year, Doctor!" Rose argued, "And I don't wanna travel with my mother, thank you very much, but I do think she could maybe see the Tardis?"

He stared at her silently for a moment, "It was the best time of your life?"

"Of course, that's the part you pick up on," She snorted, "But yeah, even if I have missed a year thanks to your driving," she nudged him playfully, "I still wouldn't change it for the world."

He huffed out a laugh, "Oi, stop poking at my driving skills."

"I wouldn't have to if you actually had any driving skills."

"Well, if you're gonna complain this much…" The Doctor rolled his eyes, a smile playing across his lips before he added hesitantly, "Are you gonna stay here now?"

"Do you want me to stay here?"

"No!" He answered fast, looking away, his ears turning red as he cleared his throat and added, "No, I mean if it's this much trouble with your mum, if she doesn't want you to come after she knows what we do, will you still want to travel with me?"

"Always." She said it with such certainty his head snapped up as he looked into her eyes, Rose was staring at him with such earnest affection that he had to look away again.

"That's," The Doctor coughed, "That's good."

Rose wrapped her arms around his, resting her head on his shoulder as she looked up at him, grinning her tongue in tooth grin as she teased, "You're stuck with me now, Doctor."

He sighed long sufferingly, "There are worst fates I suppose."

"Oi," She poked him in the side as he chuckled, "I can't do that to her again though. How old are you by the way? I never asked."

"It's rude to ask someone's age, Rose." The Doctor scolded playfully.

She looked up at him and teased, "Memory going in your old age, Doctor?"

"Oi, cheeky!" He nudged her with his elbow causing her to giggle, "I'm 900 years old, or at least that's what I say, I've lost track over the years."

"Huh," Rose pulled away and looked him up and down, winking at him she flirted, "Looking good for an old man."

The Doctor rolled his eyes but couldn't hide the flush covering his cheeks and his ears, or the pleased smile fighting its way onto his lips.

They ducked suddenly as a spaceship narrowly missed their heads as it fell from the sky and smashed its way through central London, finally crashing into Big Ben. They gaped at the sight for a moment before the Doctor laughed happily, grabbing Rose's hand he started towards the stairs back into the flats.

"Doctor, wait," She pulled him back to her, "Do you really think we'll be able to get close enough to see what happened? In the middle of central London?"

He frowned, disappointment radiating from him, "Good point, and we can't exactly use the Tardis to get closer."

"Well," Rose cajoled, rubbing his arm sympathetically, "We could do what everyone else does," He looked at her curiously, "We could watch it on TV." His expression of appalled fascination was a work of art.

She sat next to him on the arm of the chair as the Doctor watched the TV intently. Rose considered everything she knew about this adventure. She knew the secretary was killed in front of her and Harriet, she couldn't remember his name but ideally, she could save him this time, pull him out of the way before Margaret killed him. She felt the Tardis hum in approval in her mind, she considered the rest then, the Prime Minister was already dead, his body was likely already in that cupboard but the experts, maybe she could warn the Doctor, the Tardis flooded her with apprehension.

'I can't even warn him?' She thought sadly, these were more deaths the Doctor would carry with him, the Tardis hummed sadly, sorrow nearly overwhelming her before it pulled away. She was jolted out of her melancholy as a warm hand covered hers.

Rose looked down and saw the Doctor looking at her, concerned, he whispered, "Are you alright?"

She smiled back at him, trying not to show her apprehension of the coming adventure, "Yeah, I'm good, just feeling guilty."

He squeezed her hand gently, "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault," Rose was cut off as her mum came in and handed her a cup of tea, glaring at the Doctor and his hand joined with hers.

"I've got no choice!" She sniped, "Either I make him welcome, or I run the risk of never seeing you again!"

Jackie continued babbling on as the Doctor looked at her annoyed, "Oi! I'm trying to listen!" Rose bit back a laugh as the Doctor shook his head in annoyance and giggled outright when a toddler stole the remote from him. He sighed in irritation and muttered to her, "I'm gonna go investigate, wanna come?"

Rose started, excitement bubbling up inside her, before she deflated, realising she should probably stay with her mum, especially since Mickey would show up soon, "I better stay with mum for a bit," she stared at him longingly and he grinned at her, "Be careful, Doctor."

"Always." He grinned at her, "I'll be back before you can miss me."

She snorted, "Maybe let the Tardis drive."

"Oi! Twice it's happened!"

"Well, at least the distance is getting smaller," Rose teased, "This time we were even in the right place."

"Hilarious." He deadpanned making her snort in amusement, "Right then, won't be too long."

She fell into the chair as the Doctor vacated the apartment. Her mum sat opposite her near her friends as she toasted, "Here's to the Martians!"

"The Martians!" Echoed around the room, but Rose didn't notice as her eyes were focused on the doorway Mickey just appeared in, the laughter dying down as everyone else noticed him.

She stood up immediately and threw her arms around him, "I am so sorry, Mickey." Anything he was about to say was cut off as he hesitantly wrapped his own arms around her, "I didn't think about anyone but myself when I vanished, I didn't think about you or mum," She pulled away to look at his gobsmacked face, "I should have phoned you the moment I came back."

"Someone else owes Mickey an apology!" A voice cut in looking at Jackie.

"It's not my fault. Be fair. What was I supposed to think?" She sighed and walked into the kitchen, quickly followed by Rose and Mickey.

"You've known Mickey his entire life!" Rose defended, "He wouldn't hurt a fly."

Mickey snorted, "You disappear – who do they turn to? Your boyfriend. Even if you did break up with me, that just gives me more of a motive, right? Five times I was taken in for questioning. Five times! No evidence of course there couldn't be, could there. And then I get her – your mother," He pointed at Jackie who rolled her eyes, though she did look guilty this time, "Whispering around the estate – pointing the finger – stuff through my letterbox – and all 'cos of you."

Rose bit her lip, her eyes stinging, "I'm sorry, Micks, I didn't think."

"And I was waiting, Rose! Twelve months. Waiting for you and the Doctor to come back!"

"Hold on, you knew about the Doctor?" Jackie cut in and demanded, "Why didn't you tell me?"

Mickey shut the kitchen window and closed the door as he noticed people trying to listen in, "Yeah, yeah. Why not, Rose?" He gestured angrily, "Huh? How could I tell her where you went?"

"Tell me now!" Jackie demanded.

"I might as well!" Mickey crowed gleefully, "I might as well, 'cos you're stuck here. The Doctor's gone. Just now, that box thing just faded away."

Rose frowned at him, trying not to get too defensive, Mickey was right to be angry, she had left him stranded after he had literally been kidnapped by aliens to run away with a potentially dangerous alien, in his mind at least. And it wasn't as if he could talk to anyone about his experience, not without being labelled crazy.

"I'm sorry." She whispered again, it seemed like all she was doing was apologising.

The glee faded from Mickey's expression as he didn't get the reaction he wanted, but he couldn't help but prod further, "He's left you. Some boyfriend HE turned out to be!"

"He hasn't left me," Rose sighed, she pulled out the key from around her neck and showed them, her mums eyes widening at the sight, "He gave me a key and he told me he'd be back." She considered them both for a moment, "Come on." She led them both out of the flat and down to where the Tardis had been parked.

She waited silently as Mickey and Jackie stood behind her, as the seconds dragged on, Mickey couldn't help gloating, "Oh, he's dumped you, Rose. Sailed off into space. How does it feel, huh? Now you are left behind with the rest of us Earthlings. Get used to it!"

Her fingernails dug into the palms of her hands as she clenched her fists, trying her best not to snap back at him, repeating a mantra in her head, 'she abandoned him, he deserved to be angry'.

"What's the Doctor done now?" Jackie asked looking between them confused.

Mickey chortled, "He's vamoosed!"

Rose turned back to him sharply, "Mickey, I am sorry for abandoning you and not contacting you or mum, I deserve every angry word you throw at me, but the Doctor would never abandon me, he isn't like that. He would never."

Mickey shrugged carelessly but she could see a hint of remorse creeping into his expression. More so as the Tardis itself began to materialise.

Rose walked over to her mum who was gaping in shock and took her hand, "You wanted to know where I've been, come on." She motioned the Tardis and pulled her gently towards the beautiful ship.

The Doctor didn't glance round as the doors opened, "The whole crash landing's a fake – I thought so, it's just too perfect. I mean 'hitting Big Ben' come on, so I thought-"

"My mum's here." Rose cut him off, making him look around.

He sighed facing the screen again, "I didn't think you meant to show her right in the middle of a crash landing!"

"Well," She shrugged, "No time like the present."

Mickey stormed up to the Doctor, a new target for his anger, "You ruined my life, Doctor!" The Doctor spun around smoothly to face him, completely unfazed, "They thought she was dead. I was a murder suspect because of you!"

"Just what we need!" He snarked, glancing at Rose who rolled her eyes, "More drama and domestics!"

Mickey snarled, taking a few steps closer as the Doctor turned back to the computer screen, "I bet you don't even remember my name!"

"Ricky." The Doctor answered curtly, winking at Rose discretely.

"It's Mickey."

"No, it's Rickey."

"I think I know my own name." Mickey sneered back.

The Doctor looked at him, "You THINK you know your own name? How stupid are you?"

Rose couldn't help the smile as she watched the Doctor provoke Mickey, she knew it wasn't fair to him after everything, that she should put a stop to it, but she focused her attention on her mum who was looking around overwhelmed and bewildered.

She walked over to her and wrapped her arms around her, "This is the Tardis, she's the Doctor's spaceship, this is where I've been." Jackie stepped back towards the doors, "Mum?"

"Alien," Her voice was faint, like she couldn't quite believe what she was saying, "I – I can't-" Jackie cut herself off as she turned and ran from the Tardis.

Rose sighed, running a hand through her hair before she turned back towards Mickey and the Doctor.

Mickey looked startled, "You're not going after her?"

"What could I do?" Rose asked, before turning to the Doctor and leaning into his side, "So, that was a real spaceship?"

He grinned at her, wrapping an arm around her waist, "Yep!"

"So, what're they doing then? Invading?"

Mickey looked over the Doctor's shoulder, "Funny way to invade, putting the world on red alert." Rose beamed at him as she saw the first glimpse of the man who Mickey would become in the parallel world.

"Good point!" The Doctor looked grudgingly impressed, "So, what're they up to?"

OoOoOoOo

Mickey peered down at the Doctor curiously as he was wedged under the console fiddling with something, "So, what're you doing down there?"

The Doctor's response was muffled as he held the sonic screwdriver between his teeth, "Rickey."

"It's Mickey," Mickey ground out.

Rose snorted as the Doctor took the sonic screwdriver out of his mouth and repeated, "Rickey," Mickey rolled his eyes, clearly irritated, "If I was to tell you what I was doing to the controls of my frankly magnificent time ship, would you even begin to understand?"

"I suppose not…"

"Shut it, then," He put the sonic screwdriver back between his teeth as Mickey scowled and moved over to Rose.

"Some friend you've got."

"He's winding you up." She grinned at him, her smile fading as she added, "I am sorry."

"It's okay." He muttered looking upset.

"It's not though," Rose put a hand on his arm, "You were kidnapped and copied by aliens, only for your girlfriend to then break up with you and run off with another man before disappearing for year, where you were then treated as a murder suspect. Sorry doesn't make it okay, but I hope I can make it up to you eventually."

Mickey bit his lip, staring at his feet for a few moments before he looked up at her, tears in his eyes, "Every day, I looked. On every street corner, wherever I went, looking for a blue box for a whole year!"

"I know it's no excuse, but it's only been a few days for me," She wrapped her arms around his, and smirked over to where the Doctor was, "He can't drive."

At the muffled 'Oi!' from beneath the console Mickey sniggered, some tension leaving him, "So, not enough time to miss me, then?"

She beamed at him, "Of course I missed you, you're a brother to me!"

Mickey looked away, not quite able to hide the wince at that, "I missed you."

"You been seeing anyone in the last 12 months?"

He couldn't help the sad smile at the obvious subject change, "No, mainly because everyone thinks I murdered you."

"Right." Rose looked away for a moment, "You know, you'd love it out there, travelling. It's amazing."

"You're not staying then," Mickey asked quietly.

"No."

He scoffed, "No hesitation, you're just gonna go ahead and leave with him again."

"I have to." Rose answered back gently, her hand reaching down and grasping his tightly, rubbing her thumb over the back of his hand. He squeezed back tentatively, giving her a watery smile.

The awkward silence was broken by the sound of sparks from beneath the console and the Doctor shouting excitedly, "Got it! Haha!" Rose moved to join him, pulling Mickey over with her. The Doctor moved out from beneath the console, "Patched in the radar, looped it back twelve hours so we can follow the flight of the spaceship, here we go… hold on… see, the spaceship did a sling shot round the Earth before it landed."

Rose looked at him, her lips twitching upwards at his excitement, "What's that mean?"

"It means it came from Earth in the first place – it went up and came back down. Whoever those aliens are, they haven't just arrived. They've been here for a while. The question is, what have they been doing?" The Doctor started switching the television from channel to channel.

Mickey looked at him curiously, "How many channels do you get?"

"All the basic packages." He replied absently, looking for something.

"You get sports channels?"

The Doctor rolled his eyes, exasperated, "Yes, I get the football!" He turned back to the screen, "Hold on, I know that bloke," he paused, "UNIT! United Nations Intelligence Task Force – good people."

"You used to work for them." Rose blurted out without thinking. The Doctor raised his eyebrows at her, she blushed under his gaze and admitted, "I searched you on the internet."

Mickey added, "If you searched deep enough, then you would have found his name, followed by a list of the dead."

The Doctor's face closed off, "That's nice. Good boy, Rickey."

"Hold on!" Rose cut in, "Mickey, that's not fair, because wherever the Doctor's been, he's saved lives, he saved us from the plastic, if he hadn't been there, I would've died in the basement in that shop, and god knows what else could have happened."

The Doctor looked astounded at her defence. She really believed in him that much, to defend him against her mum and her boyfriend, even after he'd failed so spectacularly with the Gelth.

Her cheeks heated as he kept staring at her like she wasn't real, she nudged him slightly and asked, "So, if you know them, why don't you go and help?"

That jolted him back to the present and he smirked at her, "They wouldn't recognise me. I've changed a lot since the old days. Besides, the world's on a knife-edge. There're aliens out there and fake aliens. We want to keep this alien out of the mix. I'm going undercover… and eh, better keep the Tardis out of sight. Rickey!" Mickey sighed in annoyance, "You've got a car – you can do some driving."

He walked towards the Tardis doors, Rose patted Mickey's shoulder as he shouted after the Doctor, "Where to?!"

"The roads are clearing." The Doctor said as though it was obvious, "Let's go and have a look at that spaceship."

As they stepped out of the Tardis, they were immediately caught out by a searchlight.

"DO NOT MOVE!" Police cars and soldiers surrounded them, pointing guns at them and preventing any escape.

Rose grabbed Mickey and whispered, "Look after my mum."

He nodded at her and made a run for it over to where Jackie had run out of the flats and was trying to reach Rose, her path blocked off by two soldiers, "No!"

Mickey hid behind some dustbins as Rose glanced up at the Doctor.

"Raise your hands above your head! You are under arrest!"

They both obeyed, the Doctor grinned, "Take me to your leader!"

Rose snorted, rolling her eyes as they were guided towards the back of a police car. "This is a bit posh… so what do you reckon, arrested, or escorted?"

"Oh escorted, definitely!" The Doctor chuckled.

"You're so smug!" Rose teased as his smile widened, "Where to?"

"Where'd you think? Downing Street!"

"Really? How come?"

"Well, as you and Rickey pointed out, over the years I've visited this planet a lot of times and I've been, uh – noticed."

"So, now they need you."

"Like it said on the news – they're gathering experts in alien knowledge. And who's the biggest expert of the lot?" He grinned at her expectantly.

She scrunched up her nose as she pretended to think, her tongue poking out as she teased, "Patrick Moore?"

His face fell, "Apart from him!"

"Ah, don't you just love it!" She giggled, poking him in the side as she leaned into him.

"I'm telling you, Lloyd George – he used to drink me under the table. Who's the Prime Minister now?"

Rose rolled her eyes, "How should I know? I missed a year thanks to your driving."

"Are you ever gonna let that go?"

He got out of the car as it pulled up, holding out a hand for Rose as she followed him, he waved at all the police officers, grinning maniacally as they entered Downing Street.

She nudged him in the side, "Only you, Doctor!"

They stood outside the meeting room where the secretary was speaking to the experts, "Ladies and Gentlemen, could we convene? Quick as we can, please. It's this way on the right and can I remind you, ID cards are to be worn at all times." He approached them and passed the Doctor his ID card, "Here's your ID card, I'm sorry, your companion doesn't have clearance."

The Doctor pulled her closer to him, "I don't go anywhere without her."

"You're the code nine, not her."

He was about to argue further when Rose spotted Harriet Jones, "It's alright, Doctor, you go," she paused, feeling a warning nudge from the Tardis, "Be careful, though, yeah?"

"Always am, me." He grinned at her, "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, they're the experts, you should hear what they've got to say."

"I s'pose so." He nodded reluctantly, "Don't get into any trouble."

She looked back at him innocently, "What, trouble in Downing Street? Me? It's like you don't even know me, Doctor."

"Jeopardy friendly, you are." He snorted, squeezing her hand lightly before heading after the other experts.

Rose turned to where Harriet was arguing with the secretary and smiled as she said to the older woman, "Why don't me and you look after each other whilst the experts chat?"

Harriet looked relieved as she grasped Rose's arm and steered her past the guards at the door, "Yes, walk with me, just keep walking," She showed Rose her ID card, "Harriet Jones, MP Flydale North."

They sat in the corridor as Harriet spoke, "This friend of yours… he's an expert, is that right?" Her voice getting more distressed as she spoke, "He knows about aliens?"

Rose wrapped her arm around the older woman's shoulders, "Yeah, we can help."

Harriet broke down in tears as Rose pulled her into a hug, she quickly pulled herself together as the younger woman attempted to console her and led Rose once more into the cabinet room, she opened a door and showed Rose the skinsuit. "They turned the body into a suit! A disguise for the thing inside!" She broke down again.

Rose pulled her into a hug again, not knowing what else to do as she whispered, "Don't worry, the Doctor and me can help. It's alright."

As Harriet regained herself again, Rose began to rummage around the cabinet room and opened the cupboard the body had been found in last time. She jumped back as it fell out, Harriet rushed over, "Oh, my God!" the older woman gasped out, "This is the Prime Minister!"

The secretary walked in then, making them both jump as he admonished, "Harriet, for God's sake! This has gone beyond a joke – you cannot just wander-" he stopped short, his mouth hanging open as he spotted the body, "T-that's the Prime Minister!"

They stared at the body for a moment, Rose edging towards the young man, before they heard a mocking tone, "Ohhh!" They all spun around and saw Margaret the Slitheen, she smirked menacingly, "Has someone been naughty?"

Rose grabbed the man and pulled him back with her and Harriet as Margaret shut the door behind her, the young man spoke as he stumbled back, "That's impossible. He left this afternoon. The Pr-"

She cut him off gently, "Who told you that? Did you see 'im leave?"

He looked away from the body he's been staring at blankly to look at Rose who was scowling at the Slitheen who merely laughed gleefully, "Oh, this one's clever!"

She smirked as she moved the hair on her forehead and started to unzip the skinsuit, revealing her true self to the disgust of Rose and the shock and horror of Harriet and the young man.

The Slitheen roared in delight as she stepped forwards, ready to kill.
