Regeneration
Rose watched as her Doctor darted around the console, flicking switches before he checked the monitor, "6pm… Tuesday…" He turned a knob, "Octorber… 5006… On the way to Barcelona!" He said happily, straightening up and turning to Rose, he looked extremely pleased with himself, "Now then… what do I look like?"
He paused, holding his hand up as he added, "No, no no, no no no no no no no. No. Don't tell me!" Rose snorted as he waffled on, "Let's see… two legs, two arms, two hands…" He circled his wrist, testing it, "Slight weakness in the dorsal tubercle," His hands flew to his head, and he ran his fingers through his hair, "HAIR!" he shouted gleefully, "I'm not bald!"
He continued to run his hands through his hair as Rose bit back laughter, "Oh – oh! Big hair!" He felt his sideburns and added with delight, "Sideburns – I've got sideburns! Or really bad skin. Little bit thinner…" He slapped his stomach, "That's weird. Give me time, I'll get used to it." Then he added with the air of someone making the most wonderful discovery, "I… have got… a mole. I can feel it." He rotated his shoulders, "Between my shoulder blades, there's a mole! That's alright. Love the mole."
"Go on the, tell me." He grinned at Rose, standing up straight, hair all ruffled and sexy, "What do you think?"
"Really great hair," She blurted out before she could stop herself.
His entire face lit up, "You think?"
She flushed, looking away, it took everything in her to remember that this man, he wasn't the Doctor who had selfishly abandoned her in an effort to drive space between them, he was the man who had just regenerated right after he had died for her and told her he loved her. She stepped towards him, "You're still you?"
His smile softened, a cautious look in his eyes, "I'm still me."
She walked up to him and slapped his arm, hard.
"Ah!" He shouted, rubbing his arm, "What was that for?!"
"Risking your life!" She shot back, "Sending me away, dying for me…"
As her voice trailed off, he hesitantly raised his arms and pulled her into a gently hug, she buried her face in his chest as he whispered into her hair, "You didn't kill me, Rose."
"Without me, you wouldn't have regenerated." Her voice was muffled by his jumper.
He snorted, "Without you I would have been 'exterminated' until my regeneration cycles ran out."
"Doctor…"
He pulled back slightly, to look at her, his eyes boring into hers, "I know I'm no-" Rose cut him off as she pressed her lips to his, he moaned happily, invading her mouth with his tongue, playfully nipping at her lips as he pulled back. His smile was ecstatic as he said, "I thought you might not want to, after I changed. Rose."
The way he breathed out her name, like it was everything, she smiled up at him, "You promised that even with a new face, a new personality, you promised your feelings wouldn't change."
"They haven't." He confirmed, a lovestruck smile on his face as his trailed his fingers over her cheek, "They won't, ever."
Rose beamed up at him, these were the words she had always longed to hear from him, the Tardis thrummed happily in their minds. She informed him hesitantly, "Bad Wolf left me with something, Doctor."
Immediately concern laced his features, "What?"
"I'm bound to the Tardis." She said it quietly, not knowing how he would take it, "You took most of it out of me, but before that, Bad Wolf saw my wish to give you forever," She glanced at him, his body was frozen, "So she bound my life to the Tardis, I'll live as long as she does, stuck at 19."
The Doctor stared at her wide-eyed, surely, he had heard her wrong – he was never that lucky. But before that, he asked her gently, "Are you okay?"
She laughed, her eyes shining, "I want to stay with you, forever, now I can."
He laughed then, happiness overwhelming him as he wrapped her in a hug, "I love you, Rose Tyler."
Rose grinned, "My Doctor." As he released her, she said, "I'm gonna miss you, the old you." She added at his confused look, he looked a bit dejected at that.
"You want me to change back."
"I want my Doctor. However, he looks. Whether he's all brooding and sexy, or big-haired and hyper." He snorted as she teased him, "Missing that version of you doesn't mean I will love this version of you any less." She pulled a face, her eyes glinting with mischief, "Even if you are a bit pretty."
He snorted out a laugh, his smile had grown wider with each word, "You are something else, Rose Tyler."
"Is that gonna be a thing in this body?" She teased, "Saying my full name." The Doctor rolled his eyes at her, though his smile faded at her next words, "Well, I think we should head home, mum and Mickey are expecting us for Christmas."
"Christmas Eve?" He replied quickly.
"Yup, and you are gonna stay the entire week."
He grimaced, "I can wait in the Tardis."
She snorted, her tongue poking out between her teeth, "Nope, this is a brand-new body, so you've gotta experience new things."
The Doctor pouted, he moved over to the console to change the destination from Barcelona to the Powell Estate, Christmas Eve, 2006. All the humour vanished as the Doctor gagged and the Tardis shuddered. She placed her hands on his shoulders gently, steadying him as he gagged again, more violently, making awful retching noises.
"Uh oh," He choked out.
"What's happening?"
A golden light flowed from his mouth, "The change is going a bit wrong…" He gagged, falling to his knees, Rose wrapped her arm around his waist as she tried to pull him back to his feet. Suddenly he jumped up, moving towards a lever, "I haven't used this one in years!" He exclaimed as he flicked it, the Tardis shuddered violently, almost knocking them off their feet.
"What're you doing?"
"Putting on a bit of speed! That's it!" He replied crazily. Rose grabbed onto one of the coral pillars moving away from her Doctor as he turned more knobs, shouting gleefully, "My beautiful ship! Come on, faster! That's a girl!" He was almost violent as he continued maniacally, "Faster! Wanna break the time limit!"
"You're hurting her!"
"Ah, don't be so dull!" The Doctor responded nastily, "Let's have a but of fun! Let's rip through that vortex!" He caught her eye, slumping against the console as his voice calmed, "The regeneration's going wrong. I can't stop myself." He grimaced in pain, "Ah, my head…" He violently sprung back to his feet, his voice crazed again, "Faster! Let's open those engines!"
A bell rang in the background, the Doctor sounded utterly delighted as he shouted, "We're gonna crash land!"
"Then do something!"
He laughed gleefully, his voice rising hysterically, "Too late! Out of control!" He ran around the console giggled, "Oh, I love it! Hot dawg!" He hopped in the air excitedly, "Hold on tight, here we go!" Their eyes met across the console, he was grinning madly, "Christmas Eve…!"
