His words were still ringing in her ears.
They had taken her by surprise and yet it seemed like she had been waiting her whole life to hear them.
To be precise, she had already heard the exact same words years ago, but nevertheless they had an utterly different meaning coming from his mouth.

You and me we belong together
Just like a breath needs the air

He had planned this for a few days taking every little detail into account, but still he was overwhelmed when the moment finally arrived.
It was like his life depended on her answer.
He couldn't be without her anymore.
And he needed her to know that.

I told you if you called I would come runnin'
Across the highs the lows and the in between
You and me we've got two minds that think as one
And our hearts march to the same beat

She thought he was making a joke when he told her he would take her "out on a date" that night.
However, she realized that he was dead serious when he led her to the car placing a huge basket on the backseat.
He refused to reveal to her where they were going until he stopped the car near a small lake.
The setting sun reflected on the surface of the water and the few but large trees casted long shadows onto the ground.
She had to admit that it was the perfect spot for a romantic pick nick.

They say everything it happens for a reason
You can be flawed enough but perfect for a person
Someone who will be there for you when you fall apart
Guiding your direction when you're riding through the dark,

He opened the car door for her, grabbed the basket and then stood next to her admiring the astonishing pureness of nature on the countryside.
Afterwards he reached for her hand to lead her to a shadowy place right at the lakeside.

Oh, that's you and me

His fingers were trembling as he lay the red blanket on the dirty ground.
He was praying to God that she liked this place for she hadn't said anything since they had arrived.
He had carefully chosen the location, because this had always been his hiding place as a child when he couldn't bear facing the world anymore.
He had spent hours sitting in one of the trees or bathing his feet in the clear water.
He had always been alone back then. He had never shared this place with anyone until now.
She was the first person who could make him remember his past, but instead of trying to push all those thoughts aside, he felt the need to show her more of his old self.

You and me we're searching for the same light
Desperate for a cure to this disease

She sat down on the blanket while she watched him unpacking the content of the basket he had brought.
She inevitably had to smile when he revealed a pile of strawberries, which he knew were her favorite fruit, and also a chocolate bar for her sweet tooth.
She noticed that he spilled some of the iced tea as he poured a glass for her. When he handed it to her his hand slightly brushed against hers and it felt like this was the very first moment they had touched each other's skin.
Her fascinated gaze met a matching expression on his face.

Well some days are better than others,
But I fear no thing as long as you're with me

He knew that this was the moment.
His moment.
Their moment.
He was just hoping that she was feeling the same magic he felt when he looked into her dark brown eyes.
He reached into the basket again to pull out its very last content.
He wanted to say to her that he would understand if she wasn't ready, that he didn't want to put any pressure on her and even that he wouldn't be mad if she chose a different path for her son's sake.
All he wanted was to show her how much he cared for her and that he would never stop believing in their future together.
So he finally opened the little box and saw her hand flying to her mouth.

"Victoria," He swallowed trying to keep his eyes focused on her beautiful face. "Victoria, will you marry me?"
There was an awfully long silence after that. Both of them could feel their hearts beating in their chests.
"Yes, David." She finally said with a hoarse voice before he could open his mouth to explain himself.
Between the two of them no explanation was needed.
He just slid the silver ring with a small diamond on her finger and she threw her arms around his neck bringing her lips to his ear.
"Yes, David. I know we can make this, we can make us work."
Sometimes, even in the most complicated situations, certain things could be as simple as that.

That's you and me.

So I wanted to try out something different because this song (which they also used in the promo for episode 4x07, but I had planned this chapter long before that and I've actually been a fan of Alecia Moore (a.k.a P!nk) for many years) inspired me so much that I wanted to use it for this special moment between Victoria and David. I hope you liked it although it was shorter than the other chapters. The next one will be "normal" again and very important for the story line.
