Moving to Megakat City
Chapter 3: Say It Isn't So.

Me: For those of you that guessed Bon Jovi, The Eagles and Tremors as the references then you have won internet cookies, now for a bonus question: You may think I made one Tremors reference in the previous chapter but I actually made two, what was the second reference? I'll give out the answer in the next chapter, now I do not own Swat Kats in any shape or form typical disclaimers apply. Now onto the madness!
Amelia's POV
I slowly opened my eyes recalling a very weird dream Anthromorphic cats, that's it; I need to lay off the spicy chips and salsa before bed. I look around the room and with a sinking feeling and a startling realization that the situation is real, it takes all I have not to do a repeat performance of my epic fainting "Fuck me." I cursed making the trio of cat girls raise an eyebrow simultaneously "Sorry." I apologized "I never imagined having to wake up in a hospital with cat-women telling me that I was in an accident." I paused for a moment "Am I really here or am I hallucinating on some really powerful medication?" I mused to myself.
Callie replied "I can assure you, you are not currently on any type of medication or drug." She pointed to the doctor "Dr. Coone personally oversaw your arrival and substituent treatment." Callie points to the officer next to her "This is Lieutenant Felina Feral she and I were at the scene of the accident and we needed to know what happened from your perspective." She finished.
The doctor came to me "We have a few other questions about your species but I think you should rest for now, let things settle in." she replied.
"Can you at least tell me how I got here in the first place?" I asked the Deputy Mayor.
Callie sighs "You see, Megakat City is home to several super powered villains, two such individuals are named Dark Kat and Pastmaster, the two of them decided to work together in order to accomplish their goals but they had a violent falling out." She tells me.
Felina spoke next "Which resulted in the two firing magic at each other in the middle of downtown, our enforcers are ill equipped to deal with the situation, Callie and I were there and she shot the Pastmaster's watch which is the source of his abilities and Dark Kat fired a beam of magic at it at the same time. We believe that the combination of the two created an unstable vortex that had brought you here, Dark Kat took the opportunity to escape with his henchmen while Pastmaster was crushed in between your vehicle and a light pole." She finished.
"WHAT?!" I exclaimed shocked that I had killed someone.
"Actually, he might not be truly dead." Callie spoke.
"What do you mean? I killed someone unintentionally, I'm going to be thrown in jail for vehicular manslaughter at best!" I said panicking knowing that prison will not be kind to me.
I've watched enough shows about prison to know things like this.
"The Pastmaster is a villain determined to revert the city back to the dark ages and is a veritable walking skeleton." Felina tells me.
"Wot?" I ask her.
"Even though you did crush his skeletal body he would find a way to come back, he did somehow survive falling into an active volcano. A moving van crushing him into a light pole would be nothing." Callie commented.
"Wouldn't he qualify as a necromancer or lich? They are similar if you think about it." Dr. Coone spoke turning the attention towards her "What? Me and a few of the other doctors are on an ongoing campaign. Trust me we have to kill time somehow during the graveyard shift." She said.
"In any event if a volcano didn't kill him then a literal run-in with a moving van won't." Callie said.
"Is that supposed to make me feel any better?" I asked her incredulously.
"Um…yes?" Callie asks me sheepishly.
The resounding smack of an epic face palm echoed throughout the room.
"Evil undead sorcerers aside, technically you did save our lives since it was your van that ran into him." Felina points out.
"Where are you going with this Felina?" Callie asks the lieutenant.
"Simple, we hold a press conference putting her in a positive light so that way the citizens won't be frightened of her." Felina explained.
Callie raised an eyebrow "I thought you hated politics." She stated.
"Just because I dislike the backstabbing that goes on doesn't mean I know my way around it. And yes I know how that sounded hypocritical of me." She said.
"Can someone please explain what she is talking about?" I ask out loud.
"Awhile back we were invaded by aliens that stole all the world's water. Fortunately, the Swat Kats defeated them and returned the water to where it belonged." Callie explained.
"The Swat Kats?" I echoed.
"A pair of vigilantes that can actually defeat said supervillains, you'll see them at some point. Their fighter jet the Turbo Kat is equipped with custom made missiles and armaments that far out classes the Enforcers current weapons or abilities." Felina spoke "I have some suspicions as to the identities of the Swat Kats but I'm not going to act upon it." She said.
"Why? I mean this would be…" Dr. Coone started to speak before Felina raised a hand (Or is it a paw?) to interrupt her.
"My uncle Commander Feral would give his left leg to find that out and haul them in for lockup, despite what he thinks they are the only thing keeping the city from being destroyed." She explained.
"Can you at least tell us what you think?" Callie asks.
"Well judging from how well they operate I suspect that they have had extensive training in handling a jet, their skills easily outstrip an Enforcer pilot which leads me to believe that they themselves may have been in military or even in the Enforcers at some point." Felina replied.
Callie rubs her chin in thought "That would make sense, I mean whoever T-Bone and Razor are have the skills that would fit that line of thought." Callie said.
"Not to interrupt of anything but I'm a bit hungry." I tell them as my stomach growls in irritation.
Dr. Coone spoke up "I'll head to the nearby Burger Jester to pick up something." She replied before leaving the room. After she left Callie and Felina began having a bit of small talk with me occasionally asking a question or two, moments later the sweet smell of a hamburger and fries waft past my nose. The door opens to reveal Dr. Coone with a large bag of food in a brown paper bag, on the bag was a cartoonish cat with a crown and scepter, on the top it says "Burger Jester! Where we are royal fools for your orders!" I snorted at the cheesy catchphrase as the good doctor distributes the glorious food. I carefully bring the food up to my mouth and bit into the burger…to be honest it didn't taste all that different from a regular hamburger much to my surprise.
"You know I just thought of something, where is Amelia going to stay? I mean for all intents and purposes she is an illegal alien, albeit unintentional. She will need a place to stay until we get things sorted out." Dr. Coone spoke catching our attention.
"I practically live in Enforcer Headquarters so I'm out." Felina replied.
"My apartment is too cramped for another occupant so…" Dr. Coone replied before her and Felina look at Callie expectantly.
"What? Oh nonononono. You can't expect ME to house her!" she exclaimed.
"Hey! I'm not that bad. Besides do you really want to send me out alone in a world that I have no idea about?" I countered giving her a cute look in my eyes and pouting.
"Besides it's either this or my uncle sends her off to a research facility. And you know how easily they can get broken into due to crappy security." Felina points out. I could see Callie wince at that argument something tells me that it's a regular occurrence for scientific research is stolen for evil purposes.
Callie sighs "Fine, she can stay at my apartment, Bastet knows that I could use the company." She replied to us exasperated.
"Bastet? As in the Egyptian goddess of cats and the moon?" I questioned Callie.
"You know of our goddess?" Callie asked me shocked as were Felina and Dr. Coone were equally shocked at this.
"When I was in high school I did a paper on Egyptian mythology. Got an A+ out of it." I answered.
"Interesting, maybe there is a connection between our worlds." Dr. Coone thought out loud.
"Maybe we should research into the possibility of returning home for Amelia." Felina spoke.
"Is it possible for me to return home?" I ask hopefully.
"It's hard to say, I can't make any promises since that field of science is at best theoretical, you might have to face the possibility that it may take decades before a stable portal may be opened if at all." Dr. Coone spoke seriously "And if they did who is to say that they could even find your world? Fiction dictates that there is an infinite number of worlds so finding the right one would take even longer. You might have to face the possibility of you never returning home at all." She finished, a sinking feeling settled into my stomach that she was right.
"Can you please leave me alone for a bit?" I asked them softly. They nodded softly and they leave me to my thoughts. Unseen to them I broke down, the empty room was filled with the sounds of my uncontrollable crying, I could feel my tears stream from my eyes and my vision blur as I realize that I would never see my friends or family ever again…
Felina's POV
I turned to Marie and I restrained from slapping her "What the hell were you thinking? You told her that she's essentially trapped here and she can't go home ever again!" I practically shouted at her, I could tell that Callie agreed with my anger.
"I'm not doing this just to be spiteful Lieutenant." She replied trying to maintain composure.
"Then why?" Callie asks.
"Because as cruel as that was she needs to let it all out and accept that she would never be able to go home no matter how hard they research this." She explained.
"That still doesn't give you the right to tell her that." I tell her angrily.
"I didn't want to give her any false hope; I never lie to my patients when they are suffering, and deep inside she is suffering. Sugarcoating the truth never works out for anyone, criticize me all you want but she needed to hear this." She replied.
"Look let's calm down and give Amelia some alone time. I'll talk to Commander Feral about having her stuff sent to my apartment. Felina, can you stay here so you can take her to my place when she is feeling better?" Callie asks me.
"No problem Cal." She tells me.
"I have to get the blood results back from the lab. If you'll excuse me." Marie said before heading to the elevator.
"Bitch." I mutter loud enough for Callie hear me.
"I can't blame you for wanting to lash out at her. Anyway, I'll see you and Amelia later." Callie said before heading towards another elevator. I head to a nearby chair and sit down and wait for Amelia to cope with this revelation.
I still wanted to slap that bitch.
To be continued…
Me: I know I had Marie act like a bitch near the end but I can explain, by explaining that Amelia can't go home is like ripping a Band-Aid off, it needed to be done quick to avoid any prolonged suffering in her opinion. Don't worry Marie will get some comeuppance next chapter. Next time: Moving to Casa de la Briggs.
As always Hoody Hoo!
