Moving to Megakat City.
Chapter 4: All American Girl.
Written By Jlargent.
Me: Now for the answer to the question I posted last chapter: Heather is the name of Burt Gummer's wife from the first Tremors movie who is played by country music legend Reba Mcentire. No new questions this time but there might be next chapter. I do not own SWAT Kats in any shape or form, typical disclaimers apply. By the way if you are interested I have a Fire Emblem poll on my profile.
Felina's POV.
After a couple of hours of sitting near her door, I decided to stand up and walk towards the nearby vending machines, I get a couple of generic sodas seeing as Amelia might be thirsty after letting out some tears and sobs. I admit I'm not the most sensitive of kats seeing that I'm an Enforcer first but Marie really pissed me off by essentially telling her that there is no way for her to return home, maybe it's because the Swat Kats had managed to overcome the odds numerous times but there is always a chance for Amelia to return home. It'll be hard for her to adjust but she already has a couple of friends to help her. At that moment the elevator dinged and Marie stepped out carrying a few sheets of paper, and a plastic bag which I assume has her clothes in it and as well as her personal effects.
"Felina." Marie greets me.
"Marie, so what does the bloodwork say?" I ask her.
"She's clear to leave. I've taken the liberty to set up a medical record for her, she'll need to make regular visits so she can keep it up to date." Marie replied "Look, I'm sorry about what I said to Amelia earlier but let's face facts she's stuck here." She spoke to me.
"I'm not saying that there isn't a way home but she didn't deserve that." I said taking the items to Amelia's room, I knocked on the door "Amelia, it's me Felina. I have your clothes." I said, a few seconds later the door opened and her arm snakes out and grabs the bag before the door shuts, moments later it opened to reveal Amelia wearing a black t-shirt, black skinny jeans, boots and sunglasses. She looked around for a moment and spots Marie and before I could do anything she strode towards her, her hand clenching into a fist and with impressive speed slaps Marie hard enough to send her to the floor.
She exhales before speaking "Now I feel better." She said with some relief in her voice and heads towards the elevators.
I bent down to where Marie was "Yeah, you deserved that." I said before following Amelia to the elevators, I hand her the soda the familiar sound of a can opening before Amelia downs the whole thing in one go, impressive I've seen older enforcers drink an entire can in one go but she did it in a fraction of the time they did. Amelia reached into her pocket and pulled out a device it was rectangular and roughly two inches long and had a directional pad not unlike a game controller but had had "M" at the top the fast forward and rewind symbols on the left and right respectively and a play/pause on the bottom, there was also a square screen on it. Amelia reached into her other pocket and pulled out a pair of…headphones? At least that's what I thought they looked significantly smaller and looked to fit inside the ear rather than the bulky headphones that I usually see and she connected it to the bottom of the device and she flipped a switch at the top turning it on and I could faintly hear music.
Born with no life,
Into subjugation.
Treated like a worthless animal,
Stripped of all rights,
Just a lesser being,
Crushed by cruel, ruthless Human rule.
I frown at the lyrics not sure if it is meant to be offensive or not, Amelia noticed my frown and removed one of the headphones.
"Is there something wrong?" Amelia asks me.
I shake my head "Nah, it's nothing important. We should head to the lobby and sign the discharge papers." I said.
Amelia nodded "Agreed, no one should be in a hospital longer than necessary." She said shuddering slightly.
"I guess some things are universal." I replied making her laugh as the doors to the lobby open. Luckily it was rather empty save for the receptionist that was sleeping on the job, I looked around and noticed an empty paper bag in the trash can, smirking evilly I grab the bag and blew into it until it was full, I leaned the bag over the receptionist's head and slammed my hand against the bag resulting in a loud "BANG!" making the receptionist shriek and fall out of the chair. I could hear Amelia laughing hard at the sight.
The receptionist stood up and was about to say something but she balked when she realized that I had done it "We need discharge papers." I tell her, the receptionist quickly grabbed the needed documents and Amelia quickly signed the papers and soon the two of us were outside heading to my cruiser.
Amelia whistled at the sight of my cruiser "Damn, being a lieutenant must have some nice perks." She said admiringly.
I chuckled "Sorry, but this is standard for all Enforcers, they're actually armored so that they can resist a high caliber rifle." I said opening the passenger side door.
"So where does Callie live?" she asked me strapping herself in, I follow suit and we leave to go to her apartment.
"Actually, she lives in the middle-class portions of the city, her place is a two-bed two-bath so she has a lot of space to live in." I tell her, remembering the few times that I visited her when I had to deliver some papers to her when the mayor's office was closed.
"Sounds sweet, is there anything I should know before we arrive?" she asked me.
I thought for a moment before answering "I know that she does tend to work long hours and rarely eats at her apartment, and her cooking is decent at least. As far as I know the second bedroom is empty, Callie wanted to turn it into a study but she's never had the time to do it." I tell her.
Amelia winced "That bad huh?" she asked me.
"Mayor Manx is a born politician which means that he's also part ostrich. He spends more time on the golf course than in his office, hell I don't know if she has ever taken vacation time." I said to her.
"And why is he still in office?" Amelia asks shocked.
"Because no one would willingly take it." I answered.
"Makes sense. This is why I never vote; we always wind up with some idiot in office despite their best intentions." She says.
"So what was that you were using while we were in the elevator?" I ask her changing the topic.
"Oh this? It's a mp3 player." She said pulling the device out from her pocket "This allows you to digitally put all your music inside, it has several other functions. Like recording video, audio files and more." She said listing off the functions of her device.
"We don't have anything like that, the best we have is cassette tapes." I said pointing to the radio where said player was located.
"Really? Wow we stopped using tapes in the mid-nineties." Amelia remarked.
"What do you mean?" I asked her as Callie's apartment building was coming up.
"I'll show you later." She told me as I parked the car, I could see Amelia's moving van parked near the entrance with a couple of enforcers carrying a few boxes and my uncle supervising them.
"Uncle, this is Amelia Jonas, the 'visitor' that ran into the Pastmaster. Amelia, this is my uncle Ulysses Feral, Commander of the Megakat City Enforcers." I introduced Amelia to my uncle.
"Hiya!" she chirped extending her hand, my uncle reluctantly shook it.
"Miss Jonas. As per Miss Briggs request we had brought your delivery truck to her apartment and I had some of our officers unload it into her spare bedroom but I do have a few inquiries about some of the contents." He said.
Amelia shook her shoulders "I'll see what I can do to help then." She answered, Uncle Feral led us to the back of the truck where there was what looked like a large screen, in fact it was the biggest screen that I had ever seen, by my estimates it looked to be at least sixty-two inches across "That's my flat screen television." Amelia said shocking me. There was no way that was a TV it was too thin and looked light enough for a single person to carry without a problem, the next item looked to be a plastic box with a slot in the middle "Sweet, my PS4 managed make it without a problem." She remarked, in an adjacent box was some thin plastic cases "My DVD collection seems to be okay." She said much to my curiosity wondering what a DVD is, another box contained a label that said "Hazardous Material: Do NOT Touch!" not wanting to risk what is inside I stepped away from the box, Amelia looked at the small box and her face blushed deeply she lightly coughed "Uh, forgot about this box, I'll be taking care of it personally." There were a few other boxes but they looked to contain clothing and books. I grabbed one of the boxes of clothes and proceed to carry it to Callie's apartment building when Uncle's voice derailed my train of thought.
"This was also in the cab of the truck, it seemed that someone forgot to bring this to my attention." He said glaring at an officer and handed her a rectangular bag with a zipper allowing it to zip it all the way around it.
"My laptop!" Amelia exclaimed grabbing the bag and unzipping it to reveal a rectangular plastic device with the word "Dell" on the top. To my surprise it actually opened up to reveal a screen on the top and a keyboard on the bottom, from the look of it my guess that this "laptop" of hers is a personal computer, but how is it so small? I watched as Amelia was inspecting the outside of it for any damage and she sighed in relief that there was no damage to the device. The three of us grabbed a couple of boxes and entered the elevator.
Amelia's POV
Almost a half an hour later the U-Haul truck was empty and I was actually curious as to what they were going to do to it now that I'm stuck here, according to Ulysses he told me that it was going to be taken to a research facility for study since it is "technically" alien technology. It took everything I had to not make a bad joke about that, probably just as well since I'm not sure if said joke would even in good taste. I looked around the now box filled room I reminded myself that I need to get a bed or at least a hideaway bed, I also need a few other essentials but that can wait until tomorrow, for right now I need something to eat and some sleep.
I just finished exiting my soon to be bedroom to smell the delicious smell of food, I followed the scent towards the kitchen to see Callie wearing a pair of blue jeans and an oversized white t-shirt and a pair of slippers standing over a pot of boiling water stirring the contents occasionally while checking the contents of another pot. I could guess that she was making noodles with sauce, not wanting to feel ungrateful towards my host I asked her where the plates and the silverware was and I set the table just as she strained the noodles and placed them into a large bowl before adding the sauce and opening the oven to reveal that she had also made garlic bread and she sets the bread into a separate bowl and places it onto the table, she turns to the fridge and pulls out two cans of soda and hands me one and pulls out a container of parmesan cheese, I smiled since it is almost an unwritten rule that noodles with sauce should have parmesan cheese on top of it before eating. It's right up there with buying popcorn and soda at a movie theater right before watching the trailers.
Dinner was rather quiet since neither of us knew what to say since neither of us could have anything in common, soon the food was finished and I offered to wash the dishes, Callie refused my offer and suggested that we both clean the dishes and later discuss what chores we should share, I agreed to her idea and in little time the dishes were clean and I was tired from all the moving so I rummaged around for some sleep clothes, while this was happening Callie was turning the couch into a bed, surprisingly the couch was really comfortable and before I knew it I was fast asleep.
To be continued…
Me: For those of you wondering what song I picked for Amelia's player is From Shadows from RWBY vol.1 and there is a reason I picked this song. But that can be explained later on in the story. Mayor Manx's description through the series reminded me of Fudge from Harry Potter and to be honest it is an apt description, I'm going to introduce our tech to Callie and Felina seeing as the series is set in the nineties so it should be interesting how they would react to newer things like laptops and DVD's. Next time: Shopping for Humans.
Until next time: Hoody Hoo!
