Moving to Megakat City

Chapter 6: Two Story Town.

Written By Jlargent.

Me: Sorry for the delay, it was hot enough to knock me out a few times, the perils of working on stories during summer. I do not own SWAT Kats in any shape or form, any original characters are owned by me, typical disclaimers apply.

Amelia's POV.

It's been roughly a week since my arrival and for the most part I've stayed inside only venturing outside for a quick errand like getting small groceries or a soda from a convenience store that was a block away. Callie informed me that getting citizenship papers would normally take another week but since she is the deputy mayor she managed to expedite it to tomorrow, to be honest I was nervous. It was like nothing I could ever imagine, I'm still waiting to wake up from this reality and return to my task of returning home. Wishful thinking on my part at least.

While the reactions at the furniture store and the restaurant put me on edge at least Callie's neighbors were neutral towards me for the most part, they didn't outright hate me but they were wary of my appearance, at least that's something.

Flashback: Three days ago…

I was sitting on the roof of the building looking at the skyline trying to place any familiarity to ones I've seen back home, I was starting to get a little bit stir crazy since there was no one to talk to aside from Callie and Felina but they're busy with their jobs at the moment, I sighed wishing that I had someone to talk to so I can relieve myself of the boredom Maybe I should head back inside and watch a movie or something. I thought to myself when the sound of the door to the roof creaked opened, I turned to the source and saw that it was partially open, I shrug my shoulders Huh, must've not closed it all the way. I thought standing up and headed towards the door, all of a sudden I stopped.

"If you're going to play hide and seek, hiding behind a door isn't the best spot." I replied out loud making the door creak a bit before a pair of ears poke out. The door opens fully to reveal a young Kat probably five maybe six years old, she was wearing a blue knee length dress and had a small doll with her. I could not help but mentally squeal at how cute she was.

"Um, are you the monster that lives here?" the girl asks me nervously. The question threw me off a little since I was still trying to get used to the fact that I am being discriminated because of my species.

"I'm not a monster kid." I replied "Just a long way from home that's all." I partially lied to the girl, she nervously steps towards me "The name's Amelia, what's your name little one?" I asked her.

"Bethany." She replied.

"That's a nice name, why are you up here?" I could not help but be curious about why a young girl would be up here.

"I'm waiting for the Swat Kats!" she replied excitedly, I raise an eyebrow at that.

"Do they fly over here often?" I asked her.

"Sometimes." She said, looking up at the sky expectantly.

I stood up and headed towards the door "Well don't let me distract you from looking out for them." I said opening the door.

"Wait." Bethany's voice calls out stopping me, I turned around to see her nervously shuffling a foot in shyness "Do...do you want to wait with me?" she asked me nervously. And her eyes, dammit the cuteness weapon of all children had easily broken my resolve.

"Sure, why not?" I replied returning to my previously empty spot on the roof with Bethany sitting next to me looking at the sky in hopes to see her heroes in action, time seemingly flew by but no fighter jet appeared, and roughly an hour later the sun was starting to set and I stood up and stretched.

"Looks like they're not coming tonight." I commented.

"Yeah." Bethany stood up as well sounding disappointed.

"Hey, who knows there's always tomorrow right?" I asked her hoping that it would lighten her mood somewhat.

"Yeah, you're right." She replied sounding slightly better.

"How about this, next time you're out here invite me to watch with you okay?" I proposed to the kid.

"Sure!" I bent down so I could give her a small hug.

"Better get going, your parents must be looking for you." I said letting her go.

"Okay, it was nice meeting you!" she said before leaving. I smiled and waited a few moments before heading back into the building.

End Flashback…

At least one good thing came out of this week is someone to talk to aside from Callie and Felina, even though she is at least two decades younger than I am, meh I'll take what I can get. All of a sudden the phone rings, I reach and pull the phone off the cradle.

"Hello, this is Arkham Asylum, where you don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps!" I greeted cheerfully knowing that this would detract any solicitors.

"Very funny Amy." Callie's voice deadpans calling me by her chosen nickname for me, personally I was flattered that she does.

"What? It detracts any solicitors that want to sell me something." I defended "So what's up? Not that I mind the distraction." I asked my roommate.

"The paperwork has just cleared and all that's needed is your signature, I've sent Felina to the apartment to take you to City Hall so you can fill it out." She explains.

"Okay, thanks for telling me. Is there anything else I should be aware of?" I questioned her.

"Mayor Manx would like to say a few words to you before you sign the papers." She tells me.

I snorted "More likely trying to butter up to a new voter." I commented, I could hear Callie try and not snort in laughter at my assessment.

"Anyway, Felina should be there soon." Callie supplies.

"Okay, I'll meet you at the entrance of City Hall?" I asked her.

"Sure." She answers.

"See you soon then." I tell her before hanging up. I head to my room and select a somewhat formal outfit so that I wouldn't look that out of place in an office setting, I deftly avoided the high heels that came with it seeing as I have never had the balance or skill to walk in them so I opted of a matching pair of flats, sometimes I wonder why I even kept the heels in the first place…Argh, I'm getting distracted. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and finish getting dressed just as there was a knock at the door, I walk towards it and open it to reveal it was Felina.

"Hey Lina." I greeted her, I was also severely tempted to make an Inverse reference but it would most likely go over her head, that's the sad part of being in an alternate universe, any pop culture references you make would be useless to anyone but yourself.

"Ready to go?" she asked me.

"Yeah, just let me lock up first." I replied shutting as I stepped out of the apartment and use the spare key that Callie gave me to lock the door behind me, soon we leave the building and I entered Felina's car and we head towards I assume would be City Hall, we walk up the steps and I stop at the doors. Apparently someone agrees with my opinion on politics, there was a FOR SALE sign on the front door of the building, I could not help but laugh at the sign. I shake my head and open the door and see Callie standing there.

I pointed at the sign "Wow that is some real confidence at the Mayor right there." I said.

Callie rolled her eyes "I didn't put the sign up there, apparently every election year someone puts something on the building or some other ridiculous stunt. Last time they dressed the Mayor's statue in a clown outfit. And we're talking the full ensemble here, wig, makeup, shoes and even actual balloons tied to the statue." She explains.

I whistle "Ouch, I bet that was a major blow to his pride." I commented.

"He just brushes it off like it's nothing." She replies.

I sigh "Well let's get this over with." I reply as we enter the elevator. As we head up I could not help but notice that Callie was dressed differently, I could swear her skirt was shorter than when I saw her wear it before she left for work this morning. I shake my head, maybe I'm seeing things.

"Hey Callie?" I ask her.

"What is it?" she turned to look at me.

"How about we eat out tonight? We've been eating in for the past week or so and I think we need a slight change of pace." I could not help but ask.

She thought for a moment before answering "Sure, why not? I'll make a few calls and see if I can get a reservation at a good restaurant." She tells me just as we reached the desired floor, we exit the elevator and I follow her to a pair of oak doors, with practiced ease she opens the door to reveal a spacious office not unlike a typical mayor's office, a heavy oak desk with papers and an old fluorescent lamp adorning it, the chair was leather and with a high back, next to the desk was a short older Kat with graying hair and I believe nez glasses, he was overweight enough to indicate that he hadn't exercised in years, he's dressed in a typical three piece suit and gave off the air of incompetency when it comes to politics Felina did say that Callie does the work while he reaps the benefits. I thought as he extends his hand to me.

I shake his hand "Miss Jonas was it? I am Mayor Manx, let me be the first to welcome you to Megakat City." He spoke in a smarmy manner befitting a con artist Then again I think you'd have to be one if you're going into office. I thought absently while returning the gesture.

"A pleasure to meet you." I replied neutrally breaking the handshake.

Manx claps his hands "Okay, we're here today to fill out citizenship papers and to swear you as an official citizen." He explains "We should hurry though; I have an afternoon tee time with some important clients who wish to expand their business ventures here." He tells me, Callie stands behind him rolling her eyes at his words unnoticed by him. She walks over to the desk and hands me a few papers that were stapled together.

"You just need to put your signature on these and we can proceed with the swearing in ceremony." Callie tells me, I look over the papers and apply my John Hancock on the appropriate spaces, when I finished Mayor Manx steps into another room for a moment and returned with what I assume would be this world's version of the bible.

"Please place your left hand on the bible." He tells me and I follow his instruction for a moment I had a feeling of anxiety I wonder if this is what immigrants entering the states felt like when they are following this ceremony? I thought while waiting for the next set of instructions.

"Now please raise your right hand and repeat after me: I (State your name) hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of this country when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of this country when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me Bastet." He tells me, I was nervous for obvious reasons as the implications start to settle in, I swallow and repeated his words with my words shaking slightly.

When I finished he places the bible on Callie's desk and I lower my right hand "Congratulations, you are hereby a citizen of Megakat City, Callie will set you up with the appropriate paperwork for identification and so forth." He tells me as he leaves the office assumedly to make his tee time.

Callie sighs "Luckily the forms that Mayor Manx mentioned are only few sheets long." She said handing me said papers, fortunately they were simple enough so it was a cinch signing the papers. Callie places the documents in a file folder and places it in a nearby cabinet.

"Is there anything else I should know?" I asked my roommate.

Callie reaches into her purse and pulls out some bills "How about you look around the city for a bit? You're probably a bit bored right now and waiting on me to finish my work will take hours so why not hit a few places? The money I handed you should be more than enough to take care of any expenses." She tells me.

I was surprised at how thoughtful she was being "Are you sure? I mean I could just call a taxi and head back to the apartment." I tell her.

Callie shook her head "My roommate is not going to act like a hermit just because some ass wants to be an idiot. Besides you can take care of yourself easily enough and if push comes to shove you can call Felina to bail you out." She replies.

"Okay, if you're sure. See you tonight?" I ask her.

"I should have a reservation set for seven o'clock." Callie answers.

"Okay, I should return to the apartment by five then." I thought out loud before leaving. I headed towards the elevators and went down to the lobby, I noted the sign was still there. Smirking, I reach into my own purse and pull out a sharpie and wrote underneath it "Call Mayor Manx for starting price." I laugh to myself as I step outside.

Four Hours Later…

Surprisingly enough I had a good time just walking around the city, I may've gotten stared at but they didn't threaten me in any way, I figured the first place I should go to was a museum so I could get a bit of culture in. After a few hours I called a taxi and headed back to the apartment, I had some time before dinner with Callie so I stepped into the shower and pretty much cleaned myself up for dinner, I look at the time and I slip on a black formal dress that I admit I haven't worn in a while, maybe I should get it altered so it can fit better but for now it's a little tight around the waist. Soon the door to the apartment opened to reveal Callie looking a little haggard but no worse for wear.

"Hey Callie." I greeted.

"Let me freshen up and we'll head out." Callie tells me, I nodded and moved out of her way as she heads towards her bedroom, I could hear the sounds of clothes being discarded and a moment later the sounds of a shower, roughly twenty minutes later the sounds from the shower ceased and I hear the sound of a closet door opening. Curious, I decided to sneak a peek of Callie purely for the sake of…science! Yeah, that's it purely scientific reasons to compare human and feline anatomy I reasoned.

I carefully open the door slowly trying my best not make a sound, the door opens a small crack silently thanking lady luck that the hinges were silent as well, I take a quick look and my eyebrows shoot up as my eyes widen at her naked appearance, her fur was still damp somewhat giving her a slightly wet cat look, her ass was surprisingly nice and round, at that moment she turned around towards my direction, her head was covered with the towel so I have a clear view of her pert D-Cup breasts which were nice and full, I quickly shut the door quietly before Callie could see the door was open.

Now I know why Callie's so popular as a Deputy Mayor. I thought as some less than clean thoughts about her start to run through my head, I admit when I was still in college I've had some crushes on some of my sorority sisters but that's all they were. But with Callie I feel something that I've never felt before, I'm not going to say that I've fallen for her, I mean I barely know her. Maybe this is just a crush and it'll pass so I'm just going to wait and see how things turn out.

A moment later Callie's bedroom door opens to reveal aforementioned kat entering the room wearing a dark red dress similar to mine but hers was practically clinging to her actually enhancing her already wonderful curves.

"So shall we get going?" she asked me blissfully oblivious to how turned on I am of her at that moment, she walks towards the door unconsciously swaying her hips in a seductive manner.

This was going to be a long dinner.

Fifteen minutes later we arrived at a restaurant called Chez Kat. I could already tell that this place was way out of my price range in terms of food and money. Luckily I have a good friend willing to pay for the meal, after confirming the reservation that Callie called in earlier today we were led to a table and shown the menu after ordering our drinks and appetizers we sat there unsure how to start a conversation.

"So, where did you go to after you left City Hall?" Callie asked me slightly nervous. Finally, a topic that isn't awkward.

"I went to the museum so I could learn more about the culture of your world." I replied making her smile.

"That's nice, the curator actually informed me a few days ago that the museum is going to receive some priceless artifacts next month for display." She informed me.

"That's interesting. To be honest I was surprised that the art styles are similar to my world's. It's surprising really." I tell her, pretty soon we were talking about art and culture, I stop for a moment and I noticed something off "What the hell? We've been here for almost thirty minutes and yet a couple that came in about ten minutes after we arrived was just served their dinner. Our appetizers haven't even arrived yet or our drinks for that manner." I observed.

Callie narrows her eyes and called to the waiter "Excuse me, can we please talk to your manager?" she asked him politely. The waiter nodded and heads to the kitchen, a moment later a rather large and heavyset kat emerged wearing an expensive three-piece suit that back home would've cost more than my car.

"Yes, what seems to be the matter?" he asked us in a deep but condescending voice.

"It seems that we've been here for thirty minutes and yet our appetizers and drinks have yet to arrive." I tell him.

He snorted "Of course they haven't we do not serve food to garbage such as yourself." He tells me as though it was like talking about the weather.

Callie was seething but she managed to reign her anger in "In that case we shall be leaving, I seemed to have suddenly developed a nasty stomach virus from the atmosphere in here." She hissed at the arrogant kat. After those words were said we stood up and leave the restaurant, by this time she regained control of her temper "I'm sorry that dinner didn't turn out like this." She apologized to me.

I shook my head "It's okay Callie, you didn't expect this to happen." I reassure her.

"I can't believe that jerk, tomorrow he's going to get a surprise inspection from the health inspector." She tells me.

"Really? You would do all that for me?" I asked her surprised that she would willingly do this.

"Why shouldn't I? You're my friend and I would gladly help them out." She reassures me this time.

I smile "Well since the restaurant was a bust where should we go?" I asked my friend.

"We have a city with better food that what they serve so I say we explore." She suggests.

"Then onward! To delicious delights and foodstuffs galore!" I announce making a pose pointing to the sky, Callie laughed at the gesture and we head towards her car.

Two hours later…

We laugh as we finally stumble into the apartment, after a few minutes of searching we finally found a semi-formal restaurant where they treated me better than that jerk and offered Callie and me a discount for the next meal there, after that we hit a bar and much to my surprise and disappointment that what they have for alcohol was milk that was laced with various things to make it alcoholic to Kats but did nothing to me. Despite not even getting a buzz I had a wonderful time in there, maybe it was because I was with Callie or maybe it was something else, either way we were both walking on air laughing at the silliest jokes or stories, she has an amazing laugh and the way her eyes shone was like seeing her for the first time.

I giggled as I entered my room I just slip off my shoes and fall back onto the bed with a large smile on my face It's official, I think I'm in love with this wonderful woman. I thought as the high from tonight was finally wearing off and tiredness started to kick in, I yawn as I finally close my eyes and I was asleep before I knew it.

To be continued…

Me: Yeah, since they never mentioned the name of their country I had to work with what I got. And I'm sorry for the delay, I sprained my wrist so writing this chapter was difficult to say the least. Next Time: First days as a citizen.

As always Hoody Hoo!
