Author's note: I'm so sorry for not updating earlier but I just didn't find the time to write, plus I lacked inspiration. The chapter is a bit short but I didn't want to let you wait any longer. I'm already working on the second part of the scene. Please enjoy and let me know what you think! xo
„What the hell are you two doing here?" Victoria aggressively tore open the door. She didn't believe her eyes when she saw her in-laws standing on the doorstep.
She immediately locked eyes with Eleanor Grayson's arctic pools. She saw so much of Conrad in her. For all those years, had she tried everything to gain that woman's approval, but had never even come close to being accepted by her. Victoria remembered exactly how a few hours after she had given birth to Daniel, Eleanor had come to the hospital and had taken Daniel from her arms while she had dozed off a little. She had been too exhausted to protest against her mother-in-law and had been willing to let her hold her first grandchild, but the moment Eleanor had left the room with Daniel in her arms and hadn't returned for at least 10 minutes, Victoria had decided that that woman was the devil himself. She had broken down on the hospital floor in a desperate attempt to get her son back from Eleanor's claws, so that three nurses had had to carry her back into her bed. The exact same wicked grin that had possessed her mother-in-law's thin lips, was on her lips in the moment Victoria had opened the door seconds before.
"Mom!" All of a sudden Daniel stepped forward from behind his grandfather's back. Even though his grandmother had a firm grip on the boy's shoulder, he shook her off with an annoyed glare on his face.
"Daniel." Victoria's heart skipped a beat as she saw her son running towards her determinedly. She hadn't seen him for a day and that had felt like eternity to her. Without much hesitation she kneeled down onto her hurting knees and enclosed her arms around her son.
"That's my boy." She whispered into his ear kissing his dark hair. Words couldn't begin to describe for how proud she was of Daniel for rebelling against his grandmother. He had probably missed his mother just as much as she had missed him.
"Why didn't you come with us yesterday, Mom? I had really bad dreams without you. Dad didn't sing to me so I couldn't fall asleep." As if to support his statement the 6-year-old yawned and rubbed his chocolate brown eyes.
"I'm so sorry, Danny. I…"
She was cut off by Eleanor Grayson's cold voice. "Daniel, dear, I've already told you that your mother doesn't want to live with you anymore."
"Oh, you…." From one second to the other Victoria rose to her feet stepping towards her mother-in- law while she lovingly took Daniel's hand in hers.
"So, it's true." Eleanor smugly crossed her arms in front of her chest, not backing away when Victoria stopped only a few inched before her. "Congratulations, Victoria. You really are the slut I've always said you were." The bemused grin on the older woman's face caused Victoria to lose her temper.
"How dare you speak to me like that in front of my son!"
"I think he deserves to know the truth about who his mother really is." Eleanor leaned forward to look Victoria straight into the eyes. "You're not only a slut, but obviously also extremely stupid." She threw a depreciative glance on Victoria's stomach.
"So, I see, your son has already begged for your help."
"He didn't have to. I've waited for years for the chance to rid this family of your existence.
Before Victoria could raise her hand and lash out at Eleanor, Edward determinedly stepped between the two women.
"Enough!" It was easy to tell by the tone of his voice that he was already annoyed by the women's continuing fights. He had never understood why his wife hated Victoria so much until he had come to the conclusion that she was probably just jealous and hated how easily she could turn Conrad against his mother. "Victoria, we've come to talk to you." Edward addressed his daughter-in-law calmly.
"I won't say a word as long as she is around." Victoria snapped back.
"I see." The older man sighed. "Eleanor, please wait in the car. I can handle this myself."
"The hell, I will! I will wait right outside this door and make sure everything goes according to my plan."
"We'll see about that." Victoria led her son into the house and angrily slammed the door as soon as Edward had made it through the doorstep.
I hope it was worth the wait for you. Thank you so much for still reading my story and please review. :)
