or can it?
One year.
One whole year, she dedicated herself to finding it.
She wasn't as smart as some but she was smart enough.
And finally, after all the late nights of painstakingly typing codes and formulas and numbers and patterns, she thought she had what she had been searching for. She pulled back and looked at the continuous line of symbols and numbers and smiled to herself. This will work this time. she thought as she hit the enter button.
For years she had lived in his shadow and for years she had tried to get from under it. She was just as smart as he was, but not smart enough. She was going to prove him wrong tonight. The numbers moved and flowed across the screen, turning colors and scrolling all over the place; up and down and side to side… it was a wonder the power didn't-
"Damn it…" she said.
"Marie Carin Neutron, I thought I told you not to attach any power draining experiments to the main breaker!"
"It was just the computer, Dad!" she yelled into the speaker as she walked over to flip the breaker.
She pushed the buttons up and the lights came back on.
"Wrap it up, Beaker. Time for bed."
"But Dad, I was in the middle of a scientific breakthrough and about to break through our universe into the multiverse! Can I just have five more minutes?!"
"If your chalupa gets cold, don't come crying to me. I don't think the planes of the multiverse will miss you. Let's go."
Marie groaned and started to leave when she heard something scrape the ground and turned around. A dark place that didn't turn on when she flipped the breaker was making odd sounds.
"Hello? I- I'm a scientist! If you try to do anything to me, I'll throw stuff at you and I don't know what a lot of these bottles have in them. You could turn into a piece of gum."
"Water…"
"Huh?"
"I… need… water…"
Marie made a face and reached for the light switch. She turned it on and her eyes widened.
"Wh- wh- who are you?" she asked softly.
The young man in chains moved his hands from the light, his face dirty and beaten.
"My name is Timmy Turner; what's yours?"
huh... looks like she did it after all...
and that's a wrap. sorry the ending was a bit rushed and not as fluid as i would have liked but the story was just dragging on and i had forgotten a lot of what i had wanted. i kinda wanted a bittersweet ending anyway so, i guess i got it. happy everyone came on this wild journey with me and hopefully i'll see you at the next fanfiction!
