Hi everyone! I know it's been a while. I'm going to try finish this fanfic since I don't want to discontinue anything. I will probably only have updates once a month (or every few months depending on how busy I am next semester). As of right now, I plan for there to be only 6 chapters.
This chapter follows anime episodes 76-77.
I do not own Naruto. Anna is my OC. I'm sorry if Anna has changed a bit. I tried to keep her similar but its been awhile... Please tell me what you think.
Chapter 3: The Enemy
Anna hummed happily as she waited outside the "secret" bounty station that Kakuzu had led them to. The door to the building slammed open behind her and she twirled around and smiled at Hidan.
"That place stinks," he grumbled as he sat down beside her.
She giggled. "Doesn't it always?" Without much thought, she leaned on Hidan's shoulder. "I'm getting a little bored of all these weak bounties." She had been following Hidan and Kakuzu for a year now. While Kakuzu was annoyed to have another person to feed, he seemed grateful-though he would never say it out loud- for someone to distract Hidan. And distract him, she did. She had really grown attached to the loud-mouthed, dangerous Jashinist.
She felt his laugher vibrate his body and her giggle joined it. "So am I."
Anna opened her mouth to reply but froze when she felt approaching chakra signatures. Before she could worn Hidan there was the sound of feet behind them.
Hidan turned slightly. "Took you long enough, Kakuzu." He growled but his body stiffened and he shoved Anna away from him and jumped back, using his scythe to deflect incoming shuriken before throwing it at their attacker. The attack missed.
"Hidan! Incoming!" Anna exclaimed as she jumped up from where she had fallen and reached for a kunai, deflecting a distraction shuriken aimed at her by the first ninja as two more went for a killing blow on Hidan. She had to hold back a giggle. What's the point of trying to distract her if they are trying to kill an immortal? Anna frowned she she turned and saw that Hidan wasn't moving.
"Too slow," another ninja from the roof said, his shadow outstretched beneath him and melting into Hidan's.
"One down," the man that had attacked stated, still in a defensive position facing her.
That time she couldn't hold back her laugh. "One down? One down, he says. Hidan? You down? Cause that would be hilarious!"
"Anna, stop fucking laughing. That hurts. What's with you jerks?" Hidan grumbled. The enemy ninja froze.
Anna's laugh turned into a giggle. "I bet it does."
"What's the meaning of this? We pierced his vital spots!" One of them exclaimed.
"Don't push in so deep like that." Hidan hissed, glaring at the man that spoke. "Hey, that hurts!"
"Is this guy immortal?!" another exclaimed.
"Isn't it obvious?" Hidan asked at the same time that Anna added "Well duh."
"So who are you guys?" Then he frowned as he concentrated on the first man. Anna stopped her giggling and focused too. "That mark? It's from the guardian shinobi or something…"
Anna grinned. "I repeat. Well duh, Hidan. What else would it mean?"
Hidan glared at her for a moment before sighing. "Are you kidding me? Do I have to go back inside that smelly Collection Office again?"
"If you dont want to you dont have to~" Anna added in a sing song voice.
The first man seemed to stiffen before finally saying "We are hidden Leaf Shinobi. We have been ordered to capture or eliminate Akatsuki."
Anna frowned. She had already guessed as much from their headbands but really? she didn't care much about the Akatsuki. She wasn't even sure if their leader knew that she was following Hidan around. But one thing was certain. She had sworn to Jashin that she would kill anyone who tried to kill Hidan-if Hidan didn't get to them first that is.
The man continued while she mused. "Akatsuki operates in groups of two." He glanced at Anna who smiled at him, waving her hand in a friendly greeting. "Our intention was to take down one of you first and then capture the other. It appears we chose the wrong target. You are tough, as we expected."
Anna frowned. "Hey, just cause I'm a girl doesn't mean you would be able to capture me so easily." She winked at him. "But you can try~" She paused for a second before adding. "Oh, and sweety, you have the wrong one." She motioned to her clothing where she had no red clouds or anything resembling Akatsuki attire. "I'm no Akatsuki. Just an innocent girl with murderous tendencies."
Hidan chuckled at that and grinned at her suggestively. "Innocent. We'll see about that later."
Anna puffed her cheeks out. "Meany."
Mark Man interrupted them "Where's the other one?" Anna grinned as she saw Kakuzu appear behind Shadow Boy. In less than a second the side of the building tumbled down from Kakuzu's punch. The boy and Kakuzu flew out of the dust cloud, Kakuzu after the boy of course.
"The jutsu's broken!" Hidan exclaimed.
Mark Man suddenly got between Shadow Boy and Kakuzu while ordering the Scardy 1 and 2 to get back from Hidan.
Anna whistled. "A bit much don't you think, Kaku?" she asked, eyeing the damage done to the building as she came up beside him.
He just glared at her before turning to Hidan. "This is a first. You being interested in money, Hidan."
"Hey! Dont ignore me!" Anna exclaimed, pouting and stomping her feet in a tantrum.
Hidan chuckled, pulling back his scythe and shooting Anna a grin. "Kakuzu, Anna stay out of this. I'm going to use these guys for my ritual. I'll give you the money, Kakuzu."
"Very well, but don't get careless, you'll die," Kakuzu stated.
Anna giggled again. "Don't worry Hidan~ If they kill you I'll be sure to send them to Jashin in your stead. Oh and can I inherit your scythe?"
Hidan frowned, moving his feet to form the symbol Anna had gotten so used to. "Don't give me that. You're not getting my scythe. Besides, if they could kill me, I'd want them to. Well, I guess it's impossible, huh?"
"Blah blah blah. If you need me, I'll be taking a nap." Anna said, waving at them before disappearing from the clearing. She watched from a tree not too far away, hiding her chakra. Kakuzu and Hidan were used to her strange antics by now but the leaf nin looked confused and surprised. But it didn't last long as they began to concentrate on the two remaining threats.
"Let the show begin~" Anna murmured with a large grin. "I hope they last longer than that monk."
