Chapter 49: Birthdays all Round 2
Santana's POV
I go to the grocery store as quickly as I can and grab everything that we need in a hurry so that I can get back to Brittany at the hotel. I am so desperate to find out whether she is pregnant or not. I'm hoping she can take the test as soon as I get back while the kids are still sleeping. If she is pregnant then I'll be ecstatic and if she isn't then I will be sad but I won't be disappointed. We haven't exactly seriously tried for a baby yet so there's still time. We were more just thinking in the future we'll have more kids but if it does happen now then that's cool.
"Can I get a pregnancy test please" I ask the woman behind the desk in the pharmacy.
"What one would you like?" the woman asks.
"Um…I don't know" I reply. I hadn't really thought about what one to get, I just assumed they'd give me the most basic one.
"We have the ones that tell you how far along you are and we have just the regular ones" the woman replies.
"I'll take the cheapest one please" I tell her. We just need to know if it's positive or negative, we can worry about how many weeks Brittany is at a later date so we don't need some fancy and expensive one. To be fair it's probably better to start saving money anyway if we're about to add to our family.
"No problem" the women smiles and then gets me the cheapest test. I pay for it and then hurriedly head back to the hotel. When I walk into the bedroom, Aiden is lying on the bed next to Brittany with his arms around her.
"Hi" I smile at Brittany.
"Hey" Brittany smiles back at me.
"Aren't you supposed to be sleeping Aid?" I ask while turning to look at Aiden.
"No" Aiden shakes his head at me.
"Yes you are" Brittany laughs. "You promised me you would take a nap right here so that's the only reason I let you get out of your own bed" she tells him.
"No sleeping" Aiden shrugs.
"Aiden you need to take an afternoon nap because you'll get too tired later which we don't want" I tell him. "We want to have a nice dinner together and play on the bouncy castle later but we can't do that if we're too tired."
"No" Aiden shakes his head again. I just internally roll my eyes before turning back to Brittany. I can speak to Aiden again in a moment.
"Here you go" I say while handing Brittany the pregnancy test.
"Thank you" she smiles.
"You take the test babe and I'll watch Aiden" I tell Brittany.
"Ok" Brittany nods before heading to the bathroom.
"So what have you been up to when I was out?" I ask Aiden while sitting on the bed next to him.
"Nothing" Aiden shrugs his shoulders before climbing off the bed.
"Where are you going?" I ask him. He's supposed to be resting, not moving around.
"Cars" he shrugs at me again before picking up one of his toy cars and moving it around the bed.
"Aiden you're supposed to be napping buddy" I say. "Mom really isn't joking with you so please put the car down and come and lie on the bed with me."
"Don't want" Aiden states while running the car up my leg and down over my knee and across the bed.
"When mommy or I say you need to do something then you need to do it" I reply. Aiden doesn't verbally respond, he just stops his car, turns and looks at me before glaring. "I'm serious Aiden Lopez" I state.
"No" he replies sadly.
"We'll have fun after your nap Aiden so don't get worried. You just need to take a little nap to get your energy back and then we'll all do something fun" I say.
"Ok" Aiden sighs.
"Ella is napping right now too so you'll get to play with her as well once you've both woken up" I assure him.
"Ok, I nap" Aiden nods. He's just about to climb onto the bed again when Brittany appears at the doorway holding onto the pregnancy test.
"So?" I ask impatiently.
"It's positive" Brittany says in shock. "Santana its positive" she repeats.
"Really?" I ask excitedly.
"Yeah, look" she replies while walking over to me and handing me the pregnancy test so I can check it for myself.
"Oh my god babe" I scream in delight as I pull her towards me and tackle her to the bed and hug her tightly.
"Mommy! Mommy!" Aiden shouts frantically while jumping onto the bed, trying to pull me off Brittany.
"It's ok, mom is just excitedly hugging mommy" I say laughing. I really hope my excitement isn't going to delay his nap anymore though.
"She's also starting to hurt mommy a little" Brittany adds.
"I'm sorry" I tell Brittany as I pull away from her. "We'll talk in a second but first, Aiden you're going to nap now aren't you?" I turn to my son.
"Yes" Aiden nods.
"Come on, I'll put you down in your own bed" I say while lifting Aiden up and taking him to his own bed. I sit with him for a minute until he falls asleep before heading back over to my bed where Brittany is sitting.
"Finally a minute or two to ourselves now" Brittany smiles.
"Yeah" I nod. "By the way this is one of the best birthday presents ever" I say smiling at her as I hand her back the pregnancy test.
"What a stick covered in urine, that's gross babe?" she laughs at me.
"Not literally the test but finding out you're pregnant is one of the best birthday presents" I say.
"So one of the best and not the best?" she queries.
"Yeah I mean finding out your pregnant is really exciting but I also like just spending my birthday with the people I love most in the world. I do love our whole family but it just being the 4 of us is really cool" I tell her.
"Yeah it has been really good so far" Brittany nods.
"So how are you feeling about the positive result?" I ask while taking her hand in mine.
"I'm feeling ok about it actually" Brittany smiles. "I mean I'm still really shocked because I honestly didn't think we'd get pregnant this quick especially since we weren't exactly trying that hard. Other than that though, I'm good."
"I'm so excited about it" I say smiling.
"I can tell" she laughs. "The smile hasn't left your face since I told you."
"I know but I can't help it. I just love our little family and I love that we're expanding it" I say.
"I love that too" she smiles.

Friday 13th January 2023
When I wake up, I notice Aiden and Ella still asleep in their beds but Brittany isn't in bed with me anymore. I quietly get out of bed so I don't wake up the kids and head to the living room part of the suite to see if Brittany is there. I notice the bathroom is dark when I walk past so she must be in the living room.
"Morning" I say cheerfully while skipping over to the couch when I see Brittany sitting there.
"Morning" Brittany replies quietly.
"Are you ok?" I ask as I sit down next to her.
"I'm fine, just being silly as usual" Brittany sighs.
"Babe what's going on?" I ask while wrapping my arm around her. She leans in closer to me and rests her head on my shoulder. "Is it to do with the pregnancy?" I ask.
"Yeah" she replies with a sigh again. "I was so excited at the thought of having more kids but now that I'm actually pregnant I'm freaking out" she adds.
"What are you freaking out about?" I ask. I know sometimes the excitement in me takes over so I don't always think things through properly but I do genuinely believe we're ready for more kids.
"Aiden is 3 next week and Ella is only 15 months old" she replies. "Can we really do this?" she asks worriedly.
"Of course we can" I say optimistically. "You can handle the children a lot better than me so if I think I can do it then you most definitely can babe."
"It's going to be a lot of work having 3 kids under 4 to look after at the one time" she points out.
"It might not be the easiest thing in the world but parenting never is easy" I reason. "Plus our parents both had 4 children each so why can't we have 3? I mean if they can do it then surely so can we."
"Yeah I suppose" Brittany nods.
"Aiden and Ella can keep going to day-care once the baby is born so it's only really 1 child to look after. That way it's less stress for us and it'll keep their routine. Then once the baby gets older then they can go to day-care as well" I tell her.
"And we can do this financially?" she asks.
"I don't see why not" I shrug. We're certainly not the richest of people and we work full time to provide for our family but we aren't in any kind of debt or struggling for money. "I mean we haven't really planned any other vacations for this year so we're saving money that way and even if we wanted a break, there's plenty of places we can go to that don't have to involve a plane ride. I mean my parents love that cabin they go to a lot so we can go there for a break and it's only a couple of hours away."
"That's true" Brittany nods. "We're not really huge spenders anyway so maybe I'm worrying over nothing" she adds.
"I can be known to spoil the kids from time to time but I am getting good at not doing that now so we will be fine" I smile. I really can't see us having any issues with money because Brittany will probably go back to work full time and I can always work from home again when I have to.
"I suppose our parents have always taught us well when it came to money so like I say, I am probably panicking over nothing" Brittany sighs.
"So is it just financial worries you're having?" I ask curiously.
"No it's a mixture of things. I mean it's about whether we can cope as well with 3 small children and I'm also apprehensive about work. I've not long just took maternity leave and now I'm going to have to take more again" Brittany replies.
"Managers are used to it babe, I wouldn't worry about it. How else are people meant to have families if they're not allowed time off. I really don't think your manager will be that concerned" I assure her.
"I hope not" she sighs. We sit in silence for a moment just thinking through things in our heads. I think we're going to be ok so hopefully Brittany is a bit more optimistic when we sort things out. I just hope she's not having the same doubts as the last pregnancy.
"Do you still want to go through with the pregnancy?" I ask nervously.
"On my god, of course I do" she says reassuringly while sitting up and turning to look at me. "I'm not as worried as I was before we had Ella so I'm not thinking like that at all. I'm just worried in general" she tells me while taking my hands in hers.
"Ok" I nod in relief.
"Now you mention my last pregnancy though, that breaks my heart that I was ever contemplating the decision to perhaps not go through with it" Brittany says sadly. "I really hope when Ella gets older that she understands and doesn't hate me."
"Brittany don't ever think like that" I shake my head. "Ella is our daughter now and she did come from that pregnancy but at the beginning that was just a bunch of our DNA together. You made Ella by carrying her for those 9 months but when you first found out you were pregnant, that wasn't a developed baby" I tell her. I don't like the fact we weren't sure about the pregnancy in the beginning but that doesn't mean in any way we didn't want Ella. Ella is what that DNA developed into by Brittany carrying her for 9 months so Brittany made Ella who she is. The initial stage of pregnancy is basically just fertilised DNA.
"I still feel bad though" Brittany sighs.
"I know and I don't feel too great myself about it but it's only natural what we went through and Ella will understand that when she's older" I assure her.
"I really love you Santana Lopez" Brittany smiles at me.
"And I really love you Brittany Lopez" I smile back.
"I'm serious. You always know the right things to say to make me feel better. You're just so amazing" she tells me.
"I'm serious too, I think you're equally amazing" I say honestly. "You make me a better person but also at the same time you let me be myself and love me for that" I smile.
"That's sweet babe" she smiles again at me. I continue to smile at her before pulling her closer to me again and putting my arms around her. We sit in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. "Oh my god, we're actually having another baby" she says excitedly.
"I know" I say while still smiling from ear to ear.
"I don't think we should tell anyone just yet though because I haven't even seen my doctor yet and I can't be that far along either" Brittany replies.
"I agree" I nod. As much as I want to shout it from the rooftops since I'm so happy, I know that I shouldn't because it is really early.
"When we do tell people then I want Aiden and Ella to know first" she tells me.
"Yeah me too" I nod in agreement. Hopefully they take the news well when we tell them.

Wednesday 18th January 2023
It's my first baby's birthday today so Brittany and I want to make it really special for Aiden. He turns 3 but sometimes I feel like he's a lot older than that because he's very adventurous at the moment. I'm just waiting to see what he'll come up with today for us all to do.
"Hey babe" Brittany says walking over to me with Ella in her arms. "What are you doing out here on the balcony staring off into the distance?" she asks.
"I'm just thinking about some stuff" I smile. "Happy stuff so don't worry" I add when I notice the worry on her face.
"What kind of happy stuff?" she asks curiously.
"Just thinking about our little boy turning 3 and wondering what kind of stuff he's going to want to get up to today" I reply.
"Something a 3 year old shouldn't do probably" Brittany laughs.
"Yeah exactly" I say, laughing as well. Aiden really is cute though when he gets all curious about things and wants to try new things.
"I'm surprised he's not actually awake yet" Brittany points out.
"I am too" I say frowning in confusion. He's usually the first one up out of all of the 4 of us. "I might just go and see if he's ok" I tell Brittany.
"Ok babe" Brittany smiles. I then make my way inside and go through to the bedroom area of the suite. When I walk in, I see Aiden moving around in his bed as if he's about to wake up.
"Morning Aiden" I say as I see him wakening up. "Did you have a good sleep?" I ask while sitting on the edge of his bed.
"Yes" he mumbles tiredly. It usually takes him a moment or two to get fully awake.
"Happy birthday" I say while covering Aiden's face in kisses and tickling him.
"Mom no" Aiden giggles.
"Is my little boy too old for kisses already?" I ask with a smile as I pull away from him.
"Tickles" Aiden giggles again.
"I'm tickling you?" I ask even though I know I am. Aiden nods his head at me while smiling back at me. "Shall I tickle mommy instead?" I whisper so Brittany won't hear me since she's just walked in with Ella.
"Yeah tickle mommy" Aiden says while clapping his hands together.
"Ok" I nod before walking over to Brittany. "Oh my god Britt, look at that spider up there" I say while pointing at the ceiling.
"I don't see anything" Brittany says while frowning in confusion as she stares at the empty ceiling.
"There's nothing there, I just wanted to distract you so I could do this" I say before beginning to tickle her and Ella.
"No mom" Ella giggles.
"Santana come on, I'm going to drop Ella" Brittany says laughing.
"I don't want to stop" I smirk at them while continuing to tickle them.
"Santana stop" Brittany says still laughing while trying to move away from me.
"Aiden told me to so I have to do it. It's his birthday so what he wants he gets today" I tell her.
"Please make her stop Aid" Brittany says while looking over at our son. "You can have pancakes for breakfast if you make mom stop" she tells him.
"Yeah pancakes!" Aiden screams excitedly while beginning to jump on the bed.
"Does that mean mom has to stop now?" Brittany asks while trying to tickle me back as best she can while still holding Ella.
"Mom stop" Aiden tells me while climbing off the bed and running over to me.
"Ok I'll stop" I say while smiling at the 3 of them.
"Hey Ella why don't you go to mom right now so I can give Aiden a birthday hug" Brittany says while placing Ella in my arms. Brittany then picks up Aiden and swings him around in her arms. "Happy birthday" she tells him while kissing his head.
"How about we order some room service for breakfast and then you can open your presents Aiden while we eat" I suggest. I don't know how Brittany and I did it but we managed to bring all of Aiden's presents from our family and friends with us so that he gets to open them all today. Not only was it hard having to try and fit everything into our suitcases but it was also hard to keep it a secret from Aiden. He can be particularly nosy when he wants to so I'm surprised he hasn't found any presents and opened them.
"That sounds good, what do you think Aiden?" Brittany says turning to look at Aiden.
"Pancakes and presents, pancakes and presents" Aiden continues to repeat as he runs around the room. Once I order room service for us all, we get seated in the living room area of the suite and Aiden begins opening his presents.
"Oh what's that Aiden?" I ask as he opens up a present with some sort of cape inside.
"Superman" Aiden yells excitedly while trying to put the cape on.
"I'll help you buddy" Brittany tells him while going over to help Aiden put his superman cape on. Just as she's doing that, the room service arrives so I collect it and then put it on the table in front of us.
"Aid let's take a break from presents to eat breakfast and then you can continue in a little while" I tell Aiden.
"Ok" Aiden nods while running over to the table. We all then sit and eat breakfast together before Aiden goes back to opening his presents.
"So since it's your birthday today Aiden then you can choose what we do today so what would you like to do?" I ask.
"Fly" Aiden beams brightly while running around with his superman cape on.
"Well you can't literally fly sweetheart but I did read somewhere that there are helicopter rides nearby where we can get a tour of the different places around us" I say.
After Aiden finished with his presents and got to play with them for a little while, we all got ready for the day. Brittany and I took turns to shower while the other would look after the kids and then we both got the kids ready. We're now beginning the helicopter ride so the four of us are all sitting together as we make our way up into the sky. Aiden and Ella are at either side of Brittany and me so that they can look outside better. Aiden is so excited for this but I don't think Ella really cares one way or another because I don't really think she knows what's going on too much.
"Castle mom" Aiden states while poking me in the arm to get my attention.
"It looks like a castle doesn't it" I say as I look down and notice a very large building beneath us.
"I stay there" Aiden smiles at me.
"You're going to live there are you?" I ask amusingly.
"Yes mom" Aiden nods. "Mommy, you and Ella too" he adds.
"So we're all going to live there then?" I ask and he nods again at me. "I don't think mommy and I could afford to buy a place that size so how are we going to do that?" I ask.
"I buy it because I'm going to race cars and play soccer" he replies. "Uncle Ben said I can make lots of money if I play soccer when I'm big" he adds.
"Ok so we need to wait until you're a big boy to live there?" I ask him.
"Yes but I buy it mom, I will" Aiden assures me.
"Ok but how about somewhere closer to where we already live" I suggest.
"Ok I buy a castle nearer home when I'm big" he smiles.
"Ok" I nod. He is seriously so cute right now. I have no idea what the future holds but I'm not about to spoil his dreams right now. If he wants to be a race car driver or a soccer player then he can be but also if he loses interest in it then that's ok too. Whatever it is Aiden wants to do when he's older then I'll support him on it.
"So Aiden has saw a castle, what have you seen so far Ella?" Brittany asks our daughter.
"Doggies" Ella smiles at Brittany.
"You can see dogs from way up here?" I ask surprised.
"Yeah" Ella nods before waving her toy fluffy dog in my face.
"Oh right, ok" I say laughing.
"What about out of the window, what can you see from there Ella?" Brittany asks, making her question clearer this time.
"Don't know" Ella shrugs her shoulders.
"Do you not like the helicopter ride very much?" Brittany asks her. Ella doesn't verbally reply, she just shrugs her shoulders again.
"Because it's Aiden's birthday and he wanted to do this then we're going to stay a little longer but tomorrow we'll do something you like, ok?" I suggest to her.
"Ok" Ella nods before leaning her head against Brittany and closing her eyes.
After the helicopter ride, we all got lunch together before going back to the hotel so the kids could take a nap. We then went to the hotel pool for a little while because they both wanted to go and play there. Ella seemed to cheer up a bit more as the day went on so I'm not sure if she just didn't like the helicopter ride or if she was feeling a little left out since it was Aiden's birthday. I'm glad now though that they're both happy and having fun.

Wednesday 1st February 2023
The rest of our vacation was amazing but we're back home now. It's Brittany's birthday today but since its 3 weeks after mine then unfortunately there was no way for us to spend it on vacation because we couldn't take that much time off work. However we are going to celebrate a little tonight with a nice family meal. No doubt our parents and everyone will stop by but once everyone has left, the four of us will eat together and spend some time together. Brittany didn't want to take the day off since its mid-week so I didn't see the sense in taking the day off from work either because I would be spending her birthday at home alone. I am however leaving an hour early so I'm home first and can decorate the house a little for her and have the kids here when she gets home.
I'm just in the kitchen just now getting Aiden and Ella some breakfast. Even though we're working today, I thought I'd give Brittany some extra time in bed since it was her birthday and I would get the kids up and ready for the day.
"Mommy?" Ella questions as she looks around the kitchen.
"She's upstairs right now but she'll be here soon and then we can all give her birthday hugs and kisses" I tell Ella.
"I go get her" Aiden states while jumping down from his seat.
"No buddy, she'll come down when she's ready" I reply. I don't want Aiden to go up there and wake her up if she happens to still be asleep.
"No I want to see her" Aiden says while glaring at me.
"You want to see who?" Brittany asks as she walks into the kitchen.
"Mommy" Aiden beams happily. "I want to see you mommy" he says while running over to her and hugging her.
"I want to see you too, all of you" Brittany says while looking over at Ella and me. "Firstly though I think you should finish eating breakfast and then you can help me open my gifts."
"Ok mommy" Aiden says before sitting back down to eat. Brittany goes over to Ella and kisses her head before walking over to me.
"Happy quarter of a century baby" I say smiling at her.
"Thank you" she smiles.
"I know it's a Wednesday so we're right in the middle of the working week but I thought that maybe this weekend we could do something special to celebrate since your parents are having the kids on Saturday night" I suggest.
"Sounds good babe" she smiles.
Once we're both ready for the day, we get the kids to day-care and then head to work. I'm finding it so hard at work these days to not mention Brittany's pregnancy. It's still too early to tell anyone but the more excited Artie gets about Emma's pregnancy then the more I just want to say I feel the same whenever he talks about it. I think Brittany feels slightly the same because both she and her sister are pregnant at the same time so she really wants to share that with her. The only thing is though, Emma will likely have the baby in the next few weeks because she's almost at her due date so she might not get to tell her before Emma gives birth.

Aiden, Ella and I are all back home now. Ella is taking a nap and Aiden is helping me decorate the house with banners and balloons for Brittany. As soon as we're all finished, I go and see if Ella is awake yet because ideally I'd like us all to be sitting together when Brittany gets home. However she doesn't wake up when I thought she would so I leave her to sleep and Aiden and I wait in the living room for Brittany getting home. We're just playing with Aiden's cars when we hear the front door open.
"Mommy, mommy, mommy!" Aiden screams as he runs to the living room door.
"Hi buddy" Brittany says while lifting him up in her arms.
"Birthday" Aiden states while kissing Brittany's cheek.
"Thank you sweetheart. My birthday is even more special now that I've seen you again and I'll see Ella too" she says to Aiden causing me to clear my throat. "And you" she adds while looking over at me and rolling her eyes playfully.
"I am a very special part of your life Brittany so I would hope I make your birthday special" I smirk.
"All three of you make it special for me" she smiles. "Speaking of three, where is the third Lopez?" she asks talking about Ella.
"She's still napping at the moment" I reply. "I'll go and see if she's awake now though" I say before going to the other room to get Ella. When I walk in, she is indeed just waking up.
"Mommy?" she replies tiredly.
"She's home now so shall we go and see her?" I ask.
"Yes" she replies excitedly. I then take her through to the living room and she runs straight for Brittany.
"Hi sweetheart" Brittany says while engulfing her in a huge hug.
We spend some time just hanging out before some guests start to arrive to see Brittany. My parents turn up first shortly followed by Brittany's parents and then the rest of the family. They all catch up with us and give Brittany her presents before heading home again. I let Brittany just spend some more time with Aiden and Ella while I make the special dinner I promised her.
"So how has your birthday been so far?" I ask as all 4 of us finally get sat down to dinner together.
"It's been really good" Brittany replies with a smile.
"Does it suck a little bit that you've had to work?" I ask.
"Not really because we've had to go back to work sometime after our vacation so I didn't mind too much. I'm looking forward to the weekend though to celebrate it a bit more" she smiles.
"Yeah me too" I agree.
"Thank you for all my gifts by the way" she tells me.
"You're welcome" I smile.
"And thank you to you two for my presents" she says while reaching over to kiss Aiden and Ella.

Saturday 4th February 2023
I'm just in the kitchen with the kids making them some breakfast. Brittany is currently in the shower so I thought I would just make a head start and get the children ready for the day. As soon as the kids and Brittany are all ready then she's going to take Ella with her to take Aiden to his dance class and that will give me some time to myself to shower and do what I need to do.
"Date night babe" Brittany says happily while skipping into the kitchen.
"I know" I smile. "The kids aren't going to your parents until the afternoon so there's still some time before date night" I tell her.
"I know but I can still get excited about it" she shrugs.
"I know you can and I'm excited too" I smile.
"So I was thinking we could take the kids to the park for a little while after Aiden's class and then get lunch and after that they can take a nap before my parents come over to pick them up" Brittany says.
"Sounds like a plan" I nod. "I actually booked us a table tonight for your favourite restaurant so we'll be going there at 7pm" I say. I thought it was better to book so we didn't have to rush around to find somewhere that had a table for us and could relax before dinner.

After spending most of the day with the kids, Brittany's parents pick them up for the weekend and then Brittany and I are back to just the two of us. After relaxing together for a while, we got ready and headed to the restaurant for dinner.
"So how are you feeling at the moment?" I ask as we begin eating our food.
"I'm good" Brittany smiles.
"I mean about the pregnancy and stuff. Have you been doing ok babe?" I ask. Since we're keeping things quiet right now then I don't get a chance to ask her how she is all that much because the kids are usually with us.
"Yeah everything seems to be ok so far although the morning sickness is really beginning to piss me off. I don't think I was as sick with either Aiden or Ella as I am this time" she tells me.
"It'll pass before you know it" I say trying to keep her positive about it.
"I hope so" she nods.
"So apart from morning sickness, anything else bothering you?" I ask.
"Not really" she shrugs. "It's so hard keeping quiet about it though" she adds.
"I feel the exact same" I say while chuckling slightly. "I don't know how many times I've almost slipped up" I tell her.
"Are we waiting until the first scan is done first before we tell people?" she asks.
"Yeah I think so because we don't want to jinx anything" I reply.
"That's cool" she smiles. "Hey just because I can't drink at the moment you can still have some wine tonight if you want to" she says after a moment of silence falls between us.
"I know but I'm not really in the mood to drink" I reply.

"We can do whatever you want since we're kid free tonight" I tell her.
"I have an idea of what you might like to do tonight and it involves spending a lot of time in bed" she says smirking at me.
