I took a long read at the reviews left for the last chapter and decided last minute to change some things about the story. I had something else in mind so sorry in advance if it takes me a little longer to update since I will be working on a new story line. I do take what you all say to heart so I hope it's better and some people don't get upset by it. I can't please everyone.
Review replies-
toomanycats21:Yeah, Seth is a young teenage boy who lost his father to a leech and the one person who helped him deal with it he might also lose to a leech. He is devastated. Bella became a rock to him, someone he could protect and could protect him. It is a very emotional time for him since he is still a young wolf.
serenity1006: Sorry to hear how you feel about Bella. I did want to incorporate some of the things I noticed about her in the books and movies. She was very stupid. I mean really stupid. But I am trying to change some of it since I don't want to stray too much from my point here. I was really taken by your review. You had some very strong opinions about Bella's love life and I will try to make you happy as best I can. Thanks for getting invested in my story, it is nice to hear and sad since you don't like where this is going at the moment. I am also pro pack myself. Well I'm pro anyone but Edward. Also I was surprised of how your review actually touched on some of the things I am going to address in this chapter. Enjoy.
Mireads: I wanted to show that she decided not to push another 'father' away. She learned her lesson with Charlie and she won't do that again.
csp4: Yes, Bella has many bonds that will pull her in every direction. She will learn to handle them but for now only time will tell. I can't tell you more but this chapter will help a bit. And I thought the 'twig and berries' line was funny too. I almost didn't write it in.
izlovezvampires: Happy to hear from you for the first time and to know that you have been enjoying my story. As for your concern with the Cullen's, Bella doesn't know. She knew they would be punished and Marcus made it clear that because of her they wouldn't kill them. He didn't say jack about not torturing them. She is in the dark about this. So don't think she had anything to do with it or would have been okay with it. Marcus chose to leave her in the dark because they harmed her and allowed her to be taken by a crazy vampire who nearly killed her. Plus his rage is mostly directed towards Edward who didn't follow the law and broke her heart.
It was around 3 in the afternoon when Bella finally finished getting all of the food done for the station. She was happy for the distraction. It helped to get back into doing something that didn't give her a headache. Not to mention that the entire station was happy with her cooking. Dinner food gets old fast when you have it every day for lunch. At least this way they get a home cooked meal.
"You didn't have to bother with this Bells." Charlie said between mouthfuls.
"I wanted to." Bella said as she enjoyed a small sandwich she had brought for herself.
"Thanks again for the food Bella. I haven't had a meal this good in forever." Officer Michael said. He was the newest addition to the Forks police force.
"It was my pleasure." Bella said with a smile.
"Your food is a big hit." Charlie said smiling how all of his station basically stopped to get a plate full of his daughters' food.
"Are you sure it's my cooking. They could just be sick of the same thing every day." Bella said. She didn't like the praise for doing something nice.
Charlie shrugged and continued to finish his meal. Bella sat there with her dad building up the courage to ask him what she really came there for.
"Dad, what do you think about me taking a year off from college?" Bella finally said.
Charlie stopped eating.
"So I take it that's why you brought this food." Charlie replied.
"No. I was going to ask you anyways when you came home but since I'm here already." Bella shrugged it off.
"Why would you want to take a year off?" Charlie asked. He wanted her in college not partying or, god forbid, run off with Edwin.
"I want to get my head together. After everything that happened with Edward I just want to get back to being me before I put all that stress on myself." She was sort of lying but not by a lot. She had plenty of new things to think about and she needed to make time for them. Not to mention Jake would still be in high school so waiting seems fine.
"What about your college applications?" Charlie asked.
"I have already got some acceptance letters from a few but I really want to take a year off." Bella said. She did receive a few letters but she already had a plan in mind.
"What are you going to do in the mean time?" Charlie asked hoping the answer wouldn't be 'going to Amsterdam'.
"Well I want to travel to Italy for a little bit but mostly stay here. I was also thinking of taking a road trip to go and meet up with mom and Phil. I miss her." Bella replied. She could see that Charlie liked that last answer.
"I'm sure she would like that. But wouldn't flying be safer?" Charlie asked not liking her taking the beast out for a road trip.
"Yeah but the whole point of taking a year off is to explore and take the scenic route." She replied. He was really fighting her on this.
Charlie nodded his head. He still didn't agree with it. Bella's track record meant she was better off on a plane.
"Why Italy?" He asked after some thought.
"I always wanted to travel to Europe so I thought now would be my best chance. I chose Italy because I found a school there and I might be eligible for a scholarship." Bella said.
Marcus had suggested it as a cover to tell her father a while back in one of their many conversations. Bella didn't really think she would need a cover but given how the pack reacted then maybe she would need it now. She didn't want to hurt them since they had been with her through so much but what else was she going to do? She couldn't ignore or turn away Marcus even if she wanted to. She would just have to find a balance.
"Really." Charlie said a little annoyed. 'So that's the reason.'
"Yeah. It's not what I had in mind but if I qualify for the scholarship then why not see if I would even like it." Bella said. She could feel his gaze on her like she was about to be interrogated.
"Where did you hear of this school?" Charlie asked. He wasn't going to let this go.
"From the school counselor. They said that if we needed help that there lots of schools and programs that give out scholarships. One of them pays for all of your college as long as you go to teach in Africa for a year and you study to be a teacher." Bella replied. That one she had heard about but wouldn't go near it. She would end up being trampled to death over there with her luck.
"Yeah I think I like Italy better." Charlie replied.
"So what do you think?" Bella asked.
(Sunday June 10th hours before dawn)
Jake and Bella were cuddled up together on a blanket in the woods behind her house. Jake was keeping an ear out for Charlie in case he woke up.
"I'm so sorry honey." Jake said again for the third time.
"It's not your fault Jake. The pack as a whole had to come to an agreement." Bella replied.
"I know but I hate the decision nonetheless." Jake said.
The pack had argued well into the night with no compromise in sight. The elders had given their advice but in the end it would be up to Sam. They decided against allowing Marcus and his coven on their lands. If he and Bella wanted to see each other then it would have to be somewhere else.
"We both knew how it could end. They're your natural enemies." Bella said.
"I know but it was better if he came here." Jake said.
"It doesn't matter. In the end we will still see each other." Bella said. She had a feeling Jake was holding back the real reason he didn't want her to go. It was all the more obvious when she filled him in on the conversation she had had with Charlie. In the end Charlie agreed with her that a little time off from school would be beneficial.
"It does matter, it's safer for you here." Jake said getting angry.
"I know that it's a castle full of human drinking vampires but Marcus will take precautions." Bella said getting annoyed with his attitude.
"Sure because leeches are so trustworthy." Jake spat out.
"Don't call him that. He's my dad as hard as that is to grasp. I don't care if you call the Cullen's that but not him." Bella said sitting up glaring at her boyfriend. She was not going to let him talk shit about Marcus or any member of her family.
"You barely know him and you're already changing your whole life for him. First Edward now him. God what is it with you and vampires that makes you so stupid." Fuck. Jake thought.
(Slap)
Bella was seething. She couldn't believe Jake had said that. She quickly got up and walked back to her house.
"Bella wait." Jake called out. "I didn't mean it."
Bella spun around and almost smacked into Jakes chest.
"Bullshit." She said. It took Jake off balance to hear her talk like that.
"You blame me for something I have no control over when the pack does the same thing with the imprints. Did Sam stay away from Emily when he imprinted? No he tried but in the end the pain was too much for both of them until they accepted it." She all but shouted.
"I accepted my new family because in my heart I can feel them being a part of me. Did you actually think it was easy? Their vampires! I know what they eat. I know what they're capable of." She held up her scarred wrist to him. "It was hard but I knew I couldn't run away from it. I made my choice." She said holding back tears. "And now I know where you stand. Good bye Jacob." Bella walked up to the back door.
"Bella wait I'm sorry. I was just freaking out at the prospect of you leaving." Jake said grabbing onto her hand.
She slapped his hand away.
"Leave." Was the last thing she said before she opened the door and locked it behind her.
Jake stood there in her backyard staring at her bedroom window. He heard her lock it and pull the curtains shut. He didn't know what this meant for them but whatever it was he had to fix it.
(Sunday June 10th 10 am.)
Bella refused to get out of bed. She never wanted to leave it. She didn't mean to hurt Jacob last night. Even though she really couldn't physically but slapping him happened out of anger. None of this was easy for her. She thought Jake would understand but he just jumped to conclusions.
Charlie had asked her if she wanted to go down to the res with him earlier but she said she wanted to stay in. He was suspicious but chose to leave it alone.
(buzz buzz)
Another text from Jacob. He had been doing that non-stop since she left him outside. She needed time away from him, from everyone. Her cell phone began to buzz again, she was about to decline the call when she noticed that it was Marcus.
"Hi Marcus." She said.
"Hello mia bella. How was last night?" He asked.
Bella let out a long breath.
"That bad?" Marcus asked.
"Yeah. Things went south fast." She replied.
"What happened?" He asked. She could hear the hints of anxiety in his voice.
"The pack decided against creating a new treaty so I have to leave forks in order to see you." She said leaving out the rest.
"I'm so sorry mia bella. But I don't think that is what has you upset." Marcus replied.
"How do you know?" Bella asked. Damn his gift.
"I can hear it in your voice. Tell me what is really bothering you." He asked. He wanted her to trust him and confide in him like any daughter would.
"Jake crossed the line this morning so I told him to leave." She said. She heard a cracking noise on the other side of the phone.
"Did he touch you?" He asked. She could hear the malice in his voice.
"No! He wouldn't do that. He just said something that he can't take back now." Bella said trying to clear things up.
"What did he say?" He asked after a pause.
"I don't really want to repeat it." Bella said not wanting to turn him against Jake even more.
"It was about me then?" He asked but it didn't really sound like a question.
"Are you sure you don't have Aros power because you seem to know a lot." Bella said with a chuckle.
"I'm sure. I can just tell." Marcus said. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
"Yeah but can we do it face to face?" She asked.
"Of course. Where would you like to meet?" She could hear the excitement in Marcus voice.
"Well how about Port Angeles, at the Landing Mall?" Bella asked.
"Perfect. What time is best for you?" Marcus asked. She could hear noises in the background.
"Before 12. I think its best I shower and get rid of the wolf smell." Bella chuckled. Part of her didn't want to get rid of Jake scent.
"Very well we will be there." Marcus asked.
"I assumed the guard would go too." Bella said with a small laugh.
"They wouldn't have left me alone anyway. My brother fears for my safety more than a mother hen does after her chicks. I will be waiting there for you in the parking lot my dear." Marcus said.
Bella laughed at the image of Aro as a mother hen. (With a cluck cluck here and a cluck cluck there)
"I'll be there soon. Bye Marcus." Bella said.
"Goodbye mia bella." Marcus said.
She hung up the phone and immediately texted Charlie that she would be going to Port Angeles for some shopping for graduation tomorrow.
Then she put her phone to charge and went to shower. She didn't know how badly she smelled of wolf but she decided to spend twice as long as she usually did to make sure. She blow dried her hair and walked straight into her room to finish getting dressed. She settled for a simple casual look like she always dressed since she didn't have to impress Marcus.
When she was done she grabbed her bag and her phone and headed downstairs. Charlie had replied and asked her to be careful and to use his credit card so she could get something nice. Bella took his card from his room and decided to get something after she spent some time with Marcus. She wouldn't be technically lying as long as she did go shopping.
It would take her a little over an hour to get there. She was outside about to get into her car when something caught her attention from the corner of her eye.
"Where are you going?" Paul's deep voice scared her.
"Ah!" Bella jumped nearly dropping her phone.
"What the hell Paul." She replied. He wasn't alone.
"Please tell me you're not going to do something rash because of last night?" Jake asked.
Paul looked suspiciously at his pack brother.
Bella balled her fists in anger. How dare he jump to conclusions again after last night.
"It's none of your business Jake. You made that very clear last night." Bella said angrily. She didn't owe him any explanation after how he acted.
"Bells I said I was sorry. I don't know how many times I can repeat it." Jake said.
"What did you do?" Paul asked Jake. He didn't like the way Bella was acting at him. Baby alpha was hiding something.
"He didn't tell you?" Bella asked throwing her stuff into the passenger seat and climbing in to her truck. "Maybe he's the one you should be asking why I'm leaving." She knew how it sounded but she didn't care. She wanted him to get in trouble with Paul. He was her big brother after all and it's his job to kick her boyfriends' ass when he acts up.
She turned on the engine and both Paul and Jake where at her door in a second.
"Where are you going?" Paul asked again.
"Why do you want to know?" Bella asked angry now that they were going to make her late.
"I don't want to lose you." Paul said. His eyes were showing her his vulnerability.
Bella was instantly disarmed by his eyes.
"I'll be back tonight. I promise I won't leave you or the pack." Bella said cupping Paul's face with one hand and kissing his cheek. She could never simply pack up her things and leave them without a word. Who could be so heartless?
"If you don't I'll find you and bring you back." Paul said after he recovered from his display of emotion.
"I know you will." Bella said looking at Paul with a smile but never once giving Jake a second glance.
"Bella wait." Jake said.
"Paul you need to have a talk with your pack brother." Was the last thing she said before she pulled out of her driveway and drove off. She knew she just threw Jake under the bus but he started it. Plus bringing Paul over to stop her wasn't going over very well with her either.
The moment Marcus hung up the phone with Bella he called the guards.
"Change into casual attire and wear your contacts. Bring extras. I want you all on your best behavior." Marcus said the last part directly at Alec.
"Yes Master" They said in unison and left.
Marcus went to his room and proceeded to go through his wardrobe. He had Demetri go out and buy him new clothes at a shopping mall just in case. They hadn't brought anything with them when they had arrived. He settled for some dark blue grey jeans with a charcoal grey turtle neck sweater under a long thick grey coat. He thinks this is the best outfit he has to not stand out.
When he went downstairs he found the guard already assembled and ready to go. They all had their Volturi necklaces tucked in to avoid recognition.
"If at any moment you feel that you are about to lose control inform Alec and leave. If you cause any harm to her you will live the rest of your eternity wishing for death." Marcus said and walked outside.
"Yes master." The guard replied and walked out behind him. They took two SUVs Demetri had procured for them.
Marcus hated the tediousness of having to go by car but he wanted to have the SUV just in case. He opened up a little contact case Alec handed him and put on those blasted things to make his eyes an unthreatening brown. He would use the car ride to get used to them and think of how to get his daughter to come home with him.
"How about that one?" Marcus said while pointing to a simple floral dress on a mannequin. He quickly learned her style but tried to encourage her to dress up for graduation.
"No." Bella said politely. She hated dresses. Wearing one for graduation doesn't sound great especially since she might trip and it would go flying over her head.
"Not big on flowers?" Marcus asked amused.
"Not big on dresses period." Bella replied.
"Well that may have to change." Marcus said cautiously.
"Why? Is there a dress code in Volterra?" Bella asked jokingly. When he didn't reply her stomach sank.
"Yes." He said a little apprehensive.
"Seriously?" Bella asked.
"We pride ourselves on our appearance. We all have an unspoken dress code. When we are working we dress in our rank and signature colors. On our days off we dress casual but even those clothes are at the peak of style." Marcus said with a smile. "The queens love to dress their best and since receiving word about you they have created an entire wardrobe for you by hand."
Bella was speechless. The queens didn't know her and they were doing so much. She hadn't even met them. But dresses. Seriously.
"I hate dresses." Bella didn't mean to sound petulant but she did. The guard chuckled.
"Athenadora made you a wardrobe full of dressy casual clothes all in colors you normally wear and no dresses." Marcus said.
"Good. And how does she know what I usually wear?" Bella asked not really wanting an answer since she knew it would be creepy.
"Your photos." Marcus said. He didn't want to elaborate.
"Please tell me you didn't invade my privacy?" Bella asked dreading the answer.
"No. Never. We only compiled the photos from school pictures to whatever was on any social media. Your friends had very few with you." Marcus said. He was happy he didn't allow the guard to hack into her phone and computer.
"I figured you would get information on me but you even searched for my school photos. I have to say that borders on the line of creepy." Bella regretted saying it when she noticed Marcus body language. "You could have asked for them eventually. I don't see how giving those to you would be wrong." She added.
"I'm sorry I crossed a line Bella. We have gathered information like this for a long time. I guess the prospect of knowing you better was my only motivation that I failed to take your feelings into account." Marcus said.
"I forgive you. I just don't like having things done behind my back. I want you to tell me these things. I'm surrounded by people with superhuman senses so I'm always at a disadvantage. Just please take me into consideration on anything that involves me." Bella said. She was tired of always being looked over or having decisions made for her.
"Thank you. I will I promise. I won't do it again." Marcus said.
"Anything else I should know about?" Bella asked changing the topic.
"Yes. Sulpicia made you only dresses in pastel colors." Marcus said wide a smirk.
Bella stopped dead I her tracks. She looked sick.
"Really?" She asked.
"Yes. Do wear them all at least once. We don't want to be rude now do we?" Marcus said.
"Okay, but could you maybe hint to her that I don't wear them. I trip on air I don't want to fall and give everyone a show." She said getting laughter from the guard. Demetri especially. He quickly sobered up when Marcus looked at him.
"I'm glad my clumsiness amuses you Demetri." Bella said in an attempt to rescue him from her 'fathers' gaze.
"My apologies Princess." Demetri said. He was going to get it when they got into the car.
"I don't mind as long as you aren't laughing behind my back. Besides most people tease me about it already and I'm fine with it. I would do the same if it wasn't me." She said smiling at him ensuring that she was okay with it. "Oh and stop calling me Princess."
Demetri and the guard looked at each other briefly. They didn't want to be informal. Especially since their Master was right there.
"I'm sorry but I have to address you by your rank." He said.
"Do they really?" She asked Marcus.
"Yes. When we are near other vampires you must be addressed by your name to avoid suspicion but when we are like this they must refer to you by your title." Marcus said.
"Can we settle for something else?" She said. "It's bad enough that Paul calls me that relentlessly I don't want it to be how I'm spoken to by every Volturi member." She said. Paul was her big bro so he was okay to say it but they didn't know her and they had to serve her too. No.
"We may as long as the name is appropriate. What did you have in mind?" Marcus asked.
"I was going to say Bella but since its too informal how about Miss Swan." She said. She didn't like it but it was how adults talked to her so she could live with it.
"Seems respectful." Marcus said and nodded to the guard. "But you will be addressed as Princess when you visit the castle." Marcus added and Bella's smile dropped.
"Why is it so important?" She asked.
"It's for your safety. You will always have a guard around you to ensure your safety but as my daughter your life is my first priority. By addressing you by rank the guard shows you respect. I know it may be uncomfortable but this has been our way for a long time. Some things may change with time but being addresses by your title is a sign of respect. Besides you already vigorously protested being called Mistress so Princess will do." Marcus said with a smirk as he recalled that conversation. Bella told him 'mistress' was now used to refer to the whore of a married man and seeing how he didn't want his daughter to feel uncomfortable he settled for princess. He tried to convince her that it wasn't how they meant it but she wouldn't budge.
"Very well." Bella relented.
"How about this one?" Marcus asked as they passed another dress he found appropriate.
"It's pink." She said instantly not liking it.
After an afternoon of shopping for graduation Marcus took Bella out for a nice dinner. He heard her stomach practically begging for food and he wasn't going to let her just go to some drive through to eat.
The guard waited outside in the cars for them since they didn't want to intrude on some father daughter time and the prospect of having to eat was revolting.
"How is your eggplant lasagna?" Marcus asked.
"Delicious." Bella said with a smile. "How is your wine?" Bella asked. She was marveled when he began to actually drink it.
"It's not the vintage I would have preferred but it's decent." Marcus said as he took another sip.
"I thought vampires couldn't drink or eat human food without having to regurgitate it again." Bella said.
"I will have to since it doesn't have blood but we still enjoy the taste." Marcus said.
"You drink wine?" Bella asked wondering how that worked.
"We usually mix it with blood so part of it gets absorbed. What doesn't, we regurgitate."Marcus said. Bella's face compelled him to clarify. "Older vampires have the ability to absorb some liquids with blood. But that takes a long time to be able to do so." Marcus clarified. His brother was the one who discovered it. Aro missed the taste of wine so much.
"How old are you?" Bella asked.
"I am over 3360 years old. Give or take a few decades." Marcus said.
Bella's eyes went wide. Marcus became a bit self conscious. He had never paid his age any mind but he was starting to now.
"Well, I guess if I ever need a history lesson I know who to go to." Bella said when she regained her composure.
Marcus laughed. He was happy she could joke about it.
"So what are you going to do when you return?" Marcus said getting back to a previous topic. "Is your boyfriend still in the doghouse?" Marcus asked with a smile.
Bella gave him a playful glare. "I don't know. It's hard for me to deal with all of this right now. I don't need him making it harder for me. I get that he may never accept it but I was hoping that he could be civil about it." Bella said.
"Relationships are hard sweetheart. You must work through the rough patches. If you believe he is worth the trouble then try to keep the relationship strong. It will be hard but anything worth keeping is." Marcus said. He didn't like giving her advice to stay with the wolf but if he made her happy then he would help.
"Thanks." Bella smiled a little embarrassed. She never had conversations like these with Renée or Charlie. "I guess I should stop letting him suffer huh?" Bella asked.
"I'm sure whatever Paul has done to him is enough. They love you." Marcus said.
"Thanks for listening Marcus." Bella said looking at him lovingly.
"Anytime my dear." Marcus replied.
Marcus and Bella finished their meal and walked back to their respective cars. The guard said their goodnights after Marcus. He loved the hours he had spent with her. Especially when she opened up to him and let him in on what was troubling her. But the best part about today was when Bella invited him to her graduation tomorrow. He couldn't wait to attend. He had missed out on most of her life but this is something he wouldn't miss for the world.
Bella drove back home in silence. She was rehearsing in her mind how to tell the pack that she invited Marcus to her graduation. It wouldn't be hard for him to bland in. Lots of family was coming in from out of town to attend the graduation so it wouldn't be a problem. She hoped.
When she finally pulled up to her house she saw that Charlie still wasn't home so she took out her phone and told him she was made it back safe and sound.
She made her way to the passenger side to grab her things when she heard footsteps behind her.
"We need to talk." He said.
YES I am evil and I am leaving it like that. I won't let you guys know who it is until the next chapter but I am sure you can all guess.
Let me know what you thought of this Chapter in the reviews. And thanks for the reviews on the last chapter. They made my week.
