Mae slid down the wall of the shower and sat on the floor with her face buried in the palms of her hands and her legs pulled tight to her chest. The water beat down on her body turning it a slight pink due to the high temperatures. She didn't mind the steaming water though, it was relaxing and it calmed her down.
Enjoying the silence around her, her mind began to wonder.
She thought about the island that she'd previously explored. It seemed like a flawless place to call home. It had a trade port, a plantation, beautiful scenery and the townspeople were wholesome.
It was almost too perfect.
Unfortunately there was one problem with it. It had a marine base located in the center of it. And Mae wanted to find an island that didn't have marines stationed on it. She knew that it would be near impossible to find such an island, but she also knew that it was possible.
"You're turning red."
Lifting her face from her hands, Mae inclined her head to the side and laid her cheek against her knees. Looking at Bitsy, who was now sitting comfortably on a chair, she smiled.
"Did you bring me a drink?"
Bitsy smirked. "Well, I didn't come in here to watch you bathe," she said, holding a bottle out by the neck and waving it to her.
Mae forced out a quiet laugh and rolled her eyes. Leaning over, she stretched for the bottle and snatched it out of her hand. Smacking the cap off with the edge of the shower, she eagerly brought it to her lips and took a mouthful.
After two more mouthfuls she broke for a breath of air and then let her body slide all the way back. Sprawled out on the floor, she took another swig of her drink and finished it off.
Tossing the bottle aside, she sighed and brought an arm behind her head. "I've missed that taste."
Bitsy watched the bottle roll across the room then she let her eyes focus back on Mae. Examining her body, she raised an eyebrow and leaned forward while gesturing to her calf.
"What happened?"
Mae didn't have to look at her own body to know what Bitsy was talking about. "It's nothing," she said, flopping her arm up and then letting it smack back down to her side.
"I swear, for someone who's only suppose to keep an eye on things, you sure do come back with a lot of cuts and bruises," Bitsy tisked, leaning back and crossing a leg over the other.
"Things happen. As long as I stay out of sight, I don't see a problem," Mae mumbled, rolling her head from side to side in annoyance.
Bitsy was always trying to pry where she shouldn't. And she was always trying to lecture her after every mission.
Bitsy nodded and leaned forward. Snatching up the empty bottle, she pretended to inspect it. "I see you've added more to your tattoo."
Mae delicately touched a hand to her hip, trailing her fingers along her waist and thigh. "I did."
"It looks nice," Bitsy said, studying the tattoo. "But you know, no matter how many more designs you add to it, the original one will still be there."
"I'm not trying to cover the original tattoo up."
"Aren't you?"
"I'm just adding more charm to it is all."
Bringing herself into a seated position, Mae used the wall for support and stood up. Turning the water off, she grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her body. Then she stepped out of the shower and grabbed another towel, using it to dry her hair.
"So," she started, rubbing the towel vigorously against her head, "are you ready to tell me what you're hiding?"
"Hiding?" Bitsy tried to play stupid.
"Oh Bitsy," Mae sighed, shaking her head.
Bitsy decided to change the subject. "So, what do you plan to do today?" She asked, standing up and tucking the chair back into the corner of the room.
"I plan to spend some time with Viske," Mae answered, tossing the wet towels aside.
Walking over to the counter, she swiped up her white tank top, slipped it on without a bra and then she shimmied into a pair of navy blue shorts.
"Speaking of Viske," reaching for a comb, she brushed it through her hair a couple of times before styling it into an untidy braid over her shoulder, "do you know where I can find him?"
