Hey there people of the Fanfiction community! Welcome to the third chapter of The Dragon Guardian to the Princess of Mewni! I know it's been a while since this story's… unplanned creation, and I didn't expect it to blow up with this much support. You guys are something else, I didn't think any idea that no one ever tried before would interest people this much. You guys are truly, truly great.
Now before we start, I'd like to dedicate this chapter to a fellow fanfic author, crysky. He and I have been doing a Star vs. collaboration story. But recently he messaged me saying he got in an accident and is now in the hospital. So I don't know when, but our story will be coming over to my account soon. So if you guys could send your condolences to him, that'd be really great.
Alright, now let's get this chapter started yeah? That time, Marco had just arrived to Mewni and had started to hear a voice that sounded a lot like Star. When he got to the castle and climbed up to her room, he got mistaken for an intruder and got man-handled by the guards. He then met Scarlet, a girl who looks just like Star, but with a few… differences(aka she has a dragon's tail).
As Star was about to appoint Marco as Squire to the Knight of the wash, Scarlet manifested from the crystal that Marco's mother gave him.
Now she's taken Star and wants to talk to her, leaving Marco with Sir Lavabo.
Chapter 2: Lint is Flammable Pt.2
After leaving Marco with Sir Lavabo for the time being, Scarlet was dragging Star up the spiraling stairs, back to the main floor of the castle. Once they were there, Scarlet let go of Star's arm and stepped back from her while also looking over herself.
"Well, glad I pulled this off. To be honest, I was afraid I'd mess something up when I tried to come out that crystal. Like maybe I'd be missing an eye or my tail wouldn't been there. Phew, glad that's not the case." Scarlet said as she continued looking herself over while Star stared at her, still confused as to what just happened.
"Uh… what just… I mean how… what in all of Mewni is going on here!?" Star said as Scarlet finished checking herself and looked to her.
"What do you mean?" "I mean you! First Marco shows up back here after leaving. Saying he decided to stay permanently. He blasts the guards with some weird shockwave thing. And finally, you just pop out of some random crystal Marco was wearing and-" "Alright, alright, breath for a second," Scarlet said as she saw the mewman princess start to hyperventilate from how fast she was talking.
After a minute of catching her, Star calmed down while Scarlet waited.
"So, you calm now princess?" "Y-yeah," "You sure?" "Yes, I'm sure!" Star shouted unintentionally.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you like that." "It's cool, don't worry about it." Scarlet said patting Star on the shoulder in a friendly manner which made her feel better.
"So you wanted to talk in the rose garden right? It's in this direction, come on." "Lead the way," Scarlet said as she followed behind Star.
As the two walked to the rose garden, Scarlet looked around at the many portraits and things that hung on the castle walls.
"I like your castle by the way Star, it has a very… I don't know, it just… reminds me of this… other time I saw a castle similar to this one. The feeling I get from it, it just reminds me of a happy, peaceful time." Scarlet said.
"Oh, well… I'm glad our castle makes you feel comfortable." Star said smiling back at the her red-headed look alike. "Speaking of being comfortable, can I ask you about something?" "Yeah sure, but how come you now sound like you're not too sure you want to ask it?" "Well it kind of involves what I saw while… you were speaking with Marco."
When Star heard this, she started to get a little nervous as well as a bit confused.
"What you saw? But when did you see me and Marco-"
"Remember when I told you and Lavabo that I came from out of the crystal Marco had?" Scarlet asked to which Star nodded her. "Okay, first off, that crystal was something Marco's mother gave him before he came back here to see you."
"What!? Wait, did his parents know that they had a crystal with someone living inside it?" "No, because I never did anything to indicate that I was there. I've been asleep inside that thing for about uh… what's the current year right now?" Scarlet asks.
Star takes out her mirror phone and checks.
"2016," "Whoa, so that means I've been sleeping for… several millennia then. Huh," Scarlet said simply while Star immediately stops walking, causing Scarlet to bump into her.
"You've been asleep… FOR THAT LONG!?" Star shouted in surprise as turned to look at the other girl.
"Yeah apparently," "But then, but then how did you end up with Marco's mom!? Gasp, unless Marco's mom is like-" "Okay stop right there," Scarlet said as she placed her hand over Star's mouth. "If you were going to say Marco's mom is like immortal or something, that's not it." She said as she took her hand off of Star's mouth. "To be honest, I don't really know when I fell asleep. I remember being aware of what was going on around me when I was with Marco's mom when she was younger, but I haven't been able to come out of the crystal while I was with her at the time." Scarlet explained with a solemn look in her eyes
"Oh, okay then," Star said as she and Scarlet resumed walking.
"Anyway, you're saying that you could see I was uncomfortable around Marco?" Star said changing the subject. Even though it was to one she really didn't feel like speaking about, she thought it would be better than making Scarlet worry too much about how long she's been sleeping inside of the crystal.
"Yeah, well I could barely see since Marco put me inside his hoodie, but I could still make out the look on your face and the way you were acting."
"I was… that obvious huh?" Star said. "Well, I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact I glanced at a few of the memories Marco has of you two or I can just naturally tell, but yeah it was kind of written all over your face." Scarlet said while Star groaned and hide her face in her hands as the two continued to walk through the castle.
Soon the two walked through an open doorway which lead to the castle rose garden.
"So, here we are," Star said as Scarlet looked around at all the blooming rose bushes.
"Wow, this place looks amazing." "Yeah, I know. So anyway- Whoa!" Star said as she started to fall forward suddenly.
She closed her eyes and braced herself to hit the ground, but felt she had stopped falling while also feeling something wrapped around her waist. She opens her eyes and sees Scarlet had caught her with her tail stopping her fall.
"That was close, you okay Star?" she asks. "Ah yeah, thanks for the quick catch there." Star said in appreciation as Scarlet pulled her back up on her feet. "I wonder what I tripped on though?" "Uh Star? Look down by our feet and I think you'll have your answer." Scarlet said pointing down to the ground.
Star followed to what Scarlet was pointing to and see a massive chain tied to a tree. The two follow the chain and see that it leads to a woman with pale skin, poofy teal hair, mauve eyes, and red spade-shaped marks on her cheeks. She was wearing a long, dark purple Gothic-themed dress, a large black sun hat with gray and white feathers and a thorny branch, a white cravat with a blue crescent moon on it, long mauve gloves, and black flats with pale purple socks. she also wore maroon-colored lipstick and black mascara. The chain was attached to her ankle while she was feeding a few birds that were around her. She seemed to notice the two from the sound of them talking.
"Oh hello there Star," the woman said kindly.
"Hey Eclipsa," Star said greeting the woman known as Eclipsa. While Scarlet just looked on confused a bit.
"Uh Star? Do maybe want to fill me in on who this lady is?" Scarlet asked. "Oh right, come on, I'll introduce you to her." Star said as she grabbed Scarlet's hand and brought her over to Eclipsa.
"Eclipsa, this is Scarlet, she's… someone visiting the castle today." Star said introducing Scarlet to the former queen.
"It's very nice to meet you madam," Scarlet said bowing slightly. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you too dear. I must say though, you look like the spitting image of Star here. Minus your lovely red hair and yellow eyes. As well as that adorable tail you have there dear." Eclipsa complimented which made Scarlet blush as her tail started waging behind her.
"T-thank you very much." "Ooooh, I guess you really like it when someone compliments your tail huh?" Star said in a teasing tone which only served to make Scarlet's face just as red as her hair. "C-can we change the subject please!?" The red haired girl said while the other two laughed a bit at how embarrassed she was.
"Now what brings you two out here to the garden, if you don't mind my asking?" Eclipsa asked once she had settled down.
"Oh, well you see, Scarlet here wanted to have a little girl talk with me." Star said. "So we came out here. But we can go somewhere else so we don't bother you miss Eclipsa. I wouldn't want to be rude," Scarlet added.
"Ooooh, girl talk. That sounds interesting, would it be alright with you two if I joined too? We can right here," Eclipsa said
"Well it's fine with me I guess. But Scarlet, what do you think?" Star asked.
"Sure. In fact Eclipsa, maybe you could help with what I want to talk about with Star." Scarlet said.
"Well, I'll see what I can do," "Okay then, so could we maybe sit like… on the bench with you?" Star asked as Eclipsa strained as she moved down a bit to make room for the two girls while also dragging the chain.
Star and Scarlet then sat down on the bench with Star sitting in the middle while Eclipsa and Scarlet sat on both ends. An uncomfortable silence soon started to fall over the three of them.
'Okay, did not think this whole thing through. How am I-' Scarlet's thought was cut short when she and Star saw Eclipsa hold out the bag of bird seed to them.
"Here, why do you both ease your minds a bit and feed the bird. It always helps me feel better." Eclipsa said.
"Okay," "Might as well," they both said as Star took the bag and her and Scarlet each threw a hand full of seeds to the birds.
"So Scarlet dear, what's this thing you wanted to talk about with Star?" Eclipsa asked the red head.
"Sigh, alright. I'm just having a hard time understanding how… S-, certain someone's who have friends, but the minute they see each other again, the other person acts like they're not welcome."
"Well that's-" But before Eclipsa could answer, Star cut her off.
"Well maybe if the other person had given their friend a quick heads up first, then maybe that wouldn't happen." She said a little offended with what Scarlet said as she forcibly threw some bird seed.
"Oh? And how pre-tell is the other person supposed to know, hmm? It's not like they can read your mind." Scarlet bite back while also forcibly tossing the bird seed.
The two then began to glare at each other as a couple of birds landed on them but they didn't seem to notice.
"So… what's his name then you two?" Eclipsa said in a knowing voice which got the two girls to instantly look up at her which made the birds that were sitting on them fly off.
"What!?" they both said at the same time.
"No, no, no, no, no, it's not like that. Well not anymore." Star said while looking down.
"Sigh, it's about this boy named Marco that I actually came here with. That's why Star here is so flustered." Scarlet said to Eclipsa as Star instantly shot her head back up.
"Hey! I was not flustered!" "Oh my bad, your right, you were more like flabbergasted." Scarlet said in a teasing tone.
"Ah, Marco. So that's it." Eclipsa said knowingly. "So I'm guessing that Marco did something that Star didn't like?"
"Yes… well not really. He just showed up in my room and said he came back to stay and that my dad said he could be a knight after he gave him this cape." Star said uncertainly.
"Except when he brought it up, the king said that the cape was actually a meat blanket. Also the fact that he only said Marco could be a knight on the premise that he thought he wouldn't be back." Scarlet said with slight annoyance in her voice. "Although in his defense, I can't really blame your dad for thinking that Star." She added when she saw that Star was going to say something.
"Also, there's something I feel I should tell you Star." "Okay, what is it?" "Well, when you brought Marco down to that… subbasement, he was going to ask if you could give him a position closer to where you are. But I told him to hold his comment since I felt there was a reason you were trying to distance yourself from him."
"Well yeah there is, but…" Star started to say before Scarlet placed her hand on her shoulder which got Star to look at her.
"Look, I've been out of touch with the world for who knows how long, so I'm not sure if the concept of being best friends has changed at all. But from what I've seen in Marco's memories of you two, you both seem to have a very strong connection. Which just confuses me because from what I saw when you both were talking, you seemed to regard Marco more like a… well a pest than a best friend."
Star placed her right hand over her face and groaned.
"I didn't mean for it to seem like that, it's just that,"
"I know, it's just that things have changed since you and Marco last saw each other, am I right?" Scarlet asked to which Star nodded her head.
"Thought so, could tell from the look in your eyes. You very different from what I've seen in Marco's mind." "You keep saying that but, wait, did you… look at Marco's memories while you were inside of that crystal!?" Star asked surprised.
"Wait, Scarlet dear? You were inside of a crystal when you came here with Star's friend?" Eclipsa asked after just listening to the young girls talk.
"Yeah she was, it was a little red crystal necklace Marco wore around his neck when he got here." Star said before Scarlet could even answer.
"Uh yeah, what she just said. Until recently, I've been asleep inside of a crystal that Marco's mother has had since she was little girl for several millennia."
"Goodness, that's seem much longer from when I was crystalized." Eclipsa said surprised.
"Wait, when you were crystalized?" Scarlet asked a little confused on what the older woman meant.
"Uh yeah, long story short Scarlet, Eclipsa was trapped inside a crystal for over 300 years and is my great, great, something or other grandma." Star said which caused the red head's eyes to widened in shock before looking over at the older woman.
"Y-your over 300 years old? And yet you look like you're in your early 30s!" "Oh thank you dear," Eclipsa said.
"Okay, getting back on topic. Star, I think you should tell Marco what's bothering you. And if you can't, at least let him know that things have changed since he last saw you." Scarlet said looking to Star. "I mean if you both are best friends, then you should know he'll understand when you tell him."
Star closed her eyes and thought about what Scarlet had said to her. A lot of what she was saying was true, since her time on earth with Marco, the two of them have been through a lot together to the point they can tell when the other one is troubled. And while Star wasn't ready to discuss one glaring issue between the two of them yet, she should at least let Marco know how things were different in her life now.
"Okay, I'll talk to Marco about it." Star said lifting her head back up. "I mean if I didn't, you would most likely stuff me and him in a closet until we did." Star said jokingly.
"Uh, wasn't planning to, but I might since you've given me the idea if you try and chicken out of it." Scarlet said smirking back at the princess in amusement.
"Alright, let's go get Marco. I'm pretty sure he must me board out of his mind right now sorting out socks with Lavabo by now." Scarlet said jumping up from the bench and stretching a bit with Star doing the same.
"Wait, Star your friend is with Lavabo? The Knight of the was right now?" Eclipsa asked a little worried.
"Uh yeah, I kind of made Marco squire to Sir Lavabo." Star said. "Oh, oh dear, then I think you two should hurry down there… quickly."
"Uh, why is that? I don't think Marco would be in any real trouble just cleaning clothes." Scarlet said.
"Oh but it is dear, it's the most dangerous place in the castle. No squire has survived one day in that room." Eclipsa said in a tone that meant she was seriously frightened which got Star and Scarlet worrying now.
"Star, you set Marco up in the most dangerous room of your castle!?" Scarlet shouted freaking out.
"I didn't know it was! It's a laundry room for corn sake!" Star shouted back.
"Oh for the love of, you were born in this place and lived here for 14 years! How the heck do you not know- augh! Forget it! Let's just get down there now!" "You don't have to tell me twice! " Star said as she and Scarlet started running back to the laundry room.
"We gotta go Eclipsa. Thanks for girl talking with us." "It was nice meeting you madam!" Star and Scarlet said hurriedly as they ran out of the garden.
When Star and Scarlet made it back to the laundry room, they found Lavabo sitting reading a newspaper but didn't see any sign of Marco.
"Lavabo, where's Marco?" Star asked in a panicked voice.
"Yeah, we kind don't see me anywhere in here!" Scarlet said in an equally panicked tone.
"On his first quest, cleaning out the lint catcher milady's." Lavabo said to the two pointing behind him.
Star and Scarlet looked behind the knight of the wash and saw a large amount of pink sparkling lint spilling out of the machine.
"Oh no." "Don't worry Star, Marco's alright." Scarlet said.
"How do you know that?" She said. "Because I can sense where he is through the crystal. As long as Marco has the crystal with him, I can tell where he is and what condition he's in." Scarlet explained.
"Oh, okay so, what's going on in there? How's Marco doing?" Star asked worriedly. "Well like I said he's fine so he's not hurt or anything, but he seems to standing still in there for some reason."
"Okay, hold on we're going in there!" "So we're going to be climbing-"
Before Scarlet could finish asking, Star grabbed her by her arm and pulled out her wand.
"Sparkle Slushy Juice Blast!" she says pointing her wand down as blast of blue slushy juice shoot out and propels her and Scarlet into the lint catcher.
"Wait you two!" Lavabo said urgently as the two girls flew into the catcher.
Once inside, the two land in a pile of lint feet first.
"Next time, warn a girl when you're going to do that please?" Scarlet said as she dusted some of the lint off her shirt.
"Yeah sure, let's just find Marco already. Can you tell where he is right now?" Star asked.
"Okay give me a second," Scarlet said as she placed her hand on her chest and closed her eyes. After a few seconds she reopens her eyes.
"He's just a little bit up ahead of us," she said. "Okay then," Star said as she and Scarlet waded their way through the large accumulation of lint. As they made their way further into the lint catcher, Scarlet started to get preoccupied by her thoughts.
'What's… this feeling I'm getting? Marco should be fine until we find in. But why does just the thought of something happening to him before we find him... makes me feel sad.' She thought. 'I'm not letting that happen, I might not know what this feeling is, but I'm not letting anything happen to Marco or Star for that matter.' She thought resolutely unaware that her fists were faintly glowing red.
"Whoa!" Star said which startled Scarlet out of thoughts.
"What! What is it!?" she said looking to Star who was looking up at something. Scarlet followed to where she was looking and saw what looked like some kind of lint creature looking back at them. It stuck it's tongue out at them before slinking away.
"That was weird," "Yes, yes it was. Let's just-" Scarlet stopped mid-sentence as her eyes widened when she glanced to the far corner.
"Let's just what? Uh Scarlet? Why'd you go all quiet on me over here?" Star asked.
Scarlet then grabbed Star's face and turned her head to show her what she was looking at. When she did, her face mirrored Scarlet's when she sees Marco standing perfectly still in the corner.
"Marco! There you are." They both said at the same time as they made their way over to him.
"No, don't. You're going to wake it up" he said in a hushed terrified voice as he waved his hands in front of him.
"What?" "Marco, what are you saying?" they asked as they kept moving towards him. "No, I said, you're going to wake it up." He said again.
"What?" "Marco speak up, we can't hear you." Star and Scarlet said as they reached him.
When they were in front of him, sighed and put his hands down.
"I said you're going to wake it up."
Suddenly, all the lint around the three began to gather together before a forming into a giant lint monster that towered over them.
The monster then roared as it knocked all three of them away with its tentacles. It then snagged Marco by the his leg and Scarlet by her tail and held them both up over its mouth.
"Get your linty tentacles off us!" Scarlet yelled. "I don't' think yelling at it's going to help!" Marco said as he and the red head struggled to free themselves.
"Hang on guys!" Star shouted as she launched herself into the air with a blast from her wand.
"Rolling Thunder Lightning Blast!"
Star then fired a blast of thunder and lightning at the monster's face, which caused it to dropped Marco and Scarlet on the ground.
"Ugh, I thought that would hurt a bit more falling like that." Marco said.
"That's because you landed on my tail Marco! Off, off, off!" "Ah! Sorry!" Marco said as he quickly got off Scarlet's tail.
As Star was falling back down, the lint monster quickly caught her out of the air and flung her towards it's open mouth.
"Star!" Marco said as he ran towards the monster.
"Marco what are doing!?" Scarlet shouted as she ran after him.
As Star neared the monster's waiting mouth, Marco jumped inside, causing its mouth to close and Star to bounce off it and into Scarlet's arms.
"Marco!" Star shouted in panic.
"That idiot!" Scarlet yelled as she put Star down and quickly ran towards the monster.
"I didn't wake up after who knows long, just watch you get yourself eaten by something that a cat spit up Marco!" Scarlet shouted as she got closer.
She then threw her right arm back and suddenly her hand was covered in red flames that took the shape of a four clawed hand. When she was close enough, Scarlet threw her flaming clawed fist forward into the monster's gut.
"Now cough him up you over-grown pill of yarn!" she yelled as she brought her other hand back which soon had red flaming claws around it too and drove it into the monster's gut too.
Soon the monster let out a flaming burp which sent Marco flying out of its mouth. Star quickly ran up and caught him, which caused her to fall back.
"Marco, are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, but what the just happened? Before that thing spit me out, the inside of it started catching on fire." Marco said. "Well Scarlet ran up to it and-"
Just as Star was explaining, she and Marco saw Scarlet sail over their heads and land behind them.
"Scarlet!" they both yelled as the ran over to her.
"I'm… alright, just… my head hurts now, ugh." She groaned as started to get up. "Is there some way to get rid of this thing?"
"You could do that fire claw thing you did before, may that could-" Star said before Scarlet cut her off.
"You do know if I do that again I could set the whole inside of here on fire since we're surrounded by lint!" "But then how did you-" "Because I kept the flames low in here as to not cause a bigger fire then needed." Scarlet explained to Star.
"Guys listen, we just need to get the fan that's behind that thing moving. We do that, and it will get sucked in." Marco told the two while pointing to the lint catcher's giant fan just as the monster was reforming.
"Okay then, do either of you two have any ideas on how we're going to get passed fluffball here and get that fan moving?" Scarlet asked.
Star and Marco looked at each other before they both started smiling and nodded their heads at each other.
"Hey Scarlet, can you use anything else other than fire?" Marco asked.
"Huh? Well, hold on a second…"
Scarlet closes her eyes and concentrates for a second. She then starts to feel the air gather around her hands and feet. When she opens her eyes, she sees wind swirling around her hand and around her feet too.
"You've got wind magic too!" Star said excitedly. "Guess so, and I am liking it!" Scarlet said just as excitedly.
"Guys, focus." Marco said getting the two's attention. "Now Scarlet, when that monster starts attacking, you distract it while me and Star run fight passed it and get to the fan." Marco said.
"How in the heck are you two- wait, hold on, are you both planning on-" "Yep" they both said at the same time.
"Oh I get it now, but are you two sure you can pull this off? I mean it's been a while since you both fought together." Scarlet said looking at them in a teasing way.
"I think we've got this," Marco said confidently. "Yeah, Marco isn't my best battle bestie for nothing y'know." Star said just as confident.
"Hmph alright then, if that's the case-" Scarlet then jumped into the air threw a punch that launched a burst of wind at an incoming tentacle, completely blowing it away.
"You two better get moving!" she yelled excitedly as she started throwing more punches to distract the monster.
"Something tells me she looked at the memories I have of us fighting together." Marco said. "Now what gave you that idea Marco?" Star said in a joking voice as Marco rolled his eyes.
"Funny Star, now let's get going!" "Alright!"
Star and Marco then ran towards the lint monster while Scarlet kept peppering it with wind shots from her fists. The monster however noticed them and sent one of its tentacles at them. But Marco quickly jumped on it and started punching it. He hopped off, allowing Star to blast it away. Marco then jumped up as Star fired another blast of magic which carried him upward to the monster's face. When Scarlet looked and saw where Marco was headed, she stuck her tail out allowing him grab on as she swung him further up. Marco then kicked through the monster and grabbed onto the fan and started wriggling.
"Ngh, it won't budge!" Marco yelled as he kept tugging on the fan blade.
"Wriggle harder!" "Come on, put some muscle into Marco!" Star and Scarlet yelled.
The two then saw the lint monster starting to quickly reform itself again.
"I'm coming Marco. Scarlet, give us a hand!" "On it!"
Star ran towards Marco while Scarlet dove down to them. As Star jumped and grabbed onto Marco, Scarlet grabbed onto Star as she dived passed, pulling her and Marco down to the ground and starting the fan. Just as the monster had fully reformed, the fan was spinning much faster and started pulling the monster to it. It struggled as best it could but was soon sucked into the fan.
"Grab onto me you guys." Star said.
Marco holds onto Star's shoulders while Scarlet wraps her arms around Star's middle.
"Fantastic Exit Beam!" Star shouts as an exit sign beam of light shot out of her wand sent them al flying out of the lint catcher and into a nearby pile of clothes where they landed.
"Okay, defiantly most dangerous place in this castle." Scarlet said as she, Star and Marco crawled out of the pile.
As they came out, Star and Marco turned Scarlet. But when they looked at her, the two immediately burst into a laughing fit.
"What's so funny you two?" Scarlet asked confused about their sudden laughter.
"L-look on your… your tail!" they said at the same time between their laughing.
"My tail? What's so funny about my tai-" Scarlet stopped mid-sentence when she saw a pair of white boxer shorts with red hearts and a pair of pink bloomers on her tails.
"get it off, get it off, get it off!" she shouted in embarrassment as her face quickly turned as red as her hair while she violently swung her tail shaking off the two pairs of underwear from her it. When she saw that they were off, she looked and saw that Star and Marco had fallen to the ground still laughing.
"Ha-ha, really funny you two." She said looking away from them with her face still bright red.
After the two had calmed down from their laughing, Lavabo walked over to three clapping his hands in approval.
"Bravo! Fantastic! Only one other squire has survived the lint catcher… me!" He said proudly. "Marco Diaz, you will make a fine squire for the Knights of the Wash."
"Great, thanks. I guess," Marco said un-assuredly.
Scarlet glanced over to Star who saw the look in her eye and knew what she was trying to tell her.
"Ah Lavabo, could you give us a second? I need to talk to Marco and Scarlet alone." Star said as she got up off the floor.
"As you wish, princess." Lavabo said as he respectfully bowed and walked away while saying "Long live the wash" as Star helped Marco up.
"Okay, listen Marco, here's the thing. A lot has changed in my life since you left. It's complicated… but I finally figured out that I just need to be the best princess I can now." Star said as she faced away from Marco and Scarlet.
'You get it now Marco?' Scarlet said through his mind as she glanced over at him.
'Wait, how can you… when your-' 'As long as you have that crystal on you, I can speak to you telepathically. Even when I'm not inside of it.' She explained.
'So… this is why you said Star looked uncomfortable around?' 'Well it's… one of the reasons she was. The other one, well… I'll let you both sort out on your own terms.' 'Huh? I don't get it.' Marco said confused.
'Ha, don't worry, you don't have to yet, wild man.' Scarlet said in an amused tone as she tapped Star on her shoulder.
"Okay Star, I think Marco gets your point now, right?" Scarlet asked looking back at the Latino boy.
"Uh yeah, yeah I totally get it Star. My bad for showing up here without letting you know ahead of time." Marco said as he started walking to the door which confused both girls.
Before he could get any further, Scarlet snagged him with her tail and dragged him back over to them.
"Hold on Marco, where are you going?" "Yeah Marco, where were you going?" the two asked him.
"I was going back to earth. Star said she's trying to be a better princess and if I'm going to be distracting her then-"
"That's not what she meant/That's not what I meant." They both said at the same time.
"Uhh… what?" Marco said confused.
After leaving the laundry room, Star leads Marco and Scarlet to one of the towers of the castle. While they were walking, Star had asked Scarlet cover Marco's eyes and guide him to where she was taking them.
"Okay Marco, not much further now." Scarlet said as she kept her hands on the boy's eyes while guiding him as they followed behind Star.
"Scarlet, you've said like five times now. I haven't even asked if we're their yet." Marco said. "Yeah well… never mind then."
"Okay stop you guys, this is the place." Star said as she stopped in front of an empty space in the hall.
"Great, so can you tell Scarlet to take her hands off my eyes now please Star?" "Not yet Marco, Scarlet keep his peepers covered."
"Got it," the red head said.
Star then raised her wand to the empty space as she silent says "Sparkle Glitter Bomb Expand" as a light fires from her wand at the space creating a familiar door to which Scarlet smiled knowingly at Star who smiled back at her.
"Okay, Scarlet if you please?" Star said.
Scarlet then removed her hands from Marco's eyes that soon had a look of surprise in them when he saw the door. He then walked over and opened it and found a very familiar room that had several laser eyed puppies waiting inside.
"No way! I can't believe it. It's my room!" Marco said excitedly as he looked around while Star and Scarlet stood in the door way.
"How long do plan on letting him fan boy like that for?" Scarlet asked knowingly.
"Not too long," Star said. "I uh… actually have one more thing in store for him."
"You and me both." Scarlet said which made look at her curiously. "I kind of have a few things to go over with Marco. But I'll let you do your thing first before I tell him." "Oh okay. Should leave afterwards so you can talk to him about?" Star asked. "It's alright if you want to stay and listen too, that way he won't have to go through the trouble of hiding it from someone he trusts so much." Scarlet said which made Star smile.
"Alright, this shouldn't take too long." Star said as walked into the room with Scarlet following her inside.
As Marco was still amazed that his room was here, he felt someone touch his shoulder. He turned and saw that it was Star.
"Uh Star? What's up?" he asked.
"Marco, could you kneel for me please?" she asked. "Huh? Kneel?"
"Just kneel already Marco, don't be difficult." Scarlet said from behind as she was sitting on the bed.
"Uh, okay." Marco still a bit confused as he kneeled down in front of Star.
"Head down, please." She said as Marco complied and closed his eyes. All while Scarlet and the puppies watched.
Star then raised her wand which started to glow as she spoke.
"I, hereby declare, that you, Marco Ubaldo Diaz, shall hence forth be my royal squire, to stay by my side in times of peace or danger as my most trusted confidant and advisor." Star said as Marco opened his eyes and glanced up at her. "To go clubbing with me, even when he's too tired. To share his late night nachos. But most importantly, to be my very best friend, for so long as we both shall live. Amen." Star finished with before looking down to Marco.
"Do you accept Marco?" She asked.
"I do," Marco said a bit caught off guard as he stood back up and smiled at Star who smiled back at him. The two then turn around to the sudden sound of laughter and see Scarlet laughing and kicking her legs in the air.
"hahahahaha! Clubbing and late night nachos, pfft-hahahahaha! Oh my stomach hurts so much right now. Oh man, that is defiantly one of the more interesting vows I've heard. Haha," She said in between her laughing. "Phew, but in all honesty this is surprising. Last I checked princesses don't usually have squires."
"Wait. They don't?" Marco asked.
"Well I'm princess, so… I can do what I want." Star said with a sassy attitude which made both Marco and Scarlet smirk and think the same thought.
'Figured.'
"Alright, now that we've got that taken care of, I still need to go over a few things with you Marco." Scarlet said as she got up off the bed. "You both might want to take a seat, cause I don't know how long I'm going to talking for."
Star and Marco looked to each other before walking over and taking a seat on the bed, while Scarlet grabbed the chair from Marco's desk with her tail and sat in it.
"Okay, everyone comfy now? Cause it's listening time." Scarlet said. "Now Marco, I'm going to be honest with you here. When I told you my name, that was mainly me going off of the color of my hair."
"Wait, so your name's not Scarlet? Then what is your name?" Marco asked.
"That's just it, I… don't remember." She said. "I know for some reason I fell asleep inside that crystal, but… I just can't seem to remember it."
"Well, you were sleeping in that crystal for like a long time, so maybe you just forget a few things about yourself." Star said.
"Wait Star, how do you know she was sleeping in the crystal for a long time?" Marco asked. "Oh, when we left you with Lavabo, we started talking a little. Then I asked how she saw I wasn't too comfortable with you here and she told me she's been sleeping in the crystal for several millennia."
"What!? That long!?" Marco said looking to Scarlet who nodded her meaning Star was telling the true. "Okay, so I have another question that you said you'd answer."
"Is it the question on why I look like Star?" Scarlet guessed. "Yeah, that one." Marco said.
"I want to know too, not that I have a problem with the fact you look like me except for you hair, eyes and tail. Actually, I think you look pretty cool." Star said.
"Come on, Quit with the compliments, you're going to make me blush over here." Scarlet said bashfully as her tail started to wag a little.
"Now to answer that question Marco, there's something you and Star need to know about me. In fact, I just remembered this fact after our little run in with that lint monster after it knocked me to the ground." Scarlet said rubbing the back of her head.
"Okay, so what is it?" Marco asked.
"You guys can't already guess from my tail here?" Scarlet said swinging her tail back and forth. "… I'm a dragon you guys, as in the ones that breath fire." She said.
Marco and Star's eyes widened instantly when they heard what Scarlet said.
"Scarlet, you're a dragon? Like a really dragon?" Star asked.
"Yep or do you need me to light something on fire to prove it?" "No! you don't need to do that, we believe you!" Marco quickly said before Star could answer her.
"Relax Marco, I wasn't really going to set anything on fire. Now to answer the question of why I look like Star, it might have something to do with the fact that, well, my soul kinda merged with yours Marco."
"… What?" Marco said.
"Uh yeah, you see when you put the crystal on Marco, that's when I woke up. But when I looked at myself, I saw that I looked like well… this." Scarlet said.
Marco just sat there with a shell-shocked look still on his face.
"Uh Marco? You okay? Hello? Calling Marco?" Star said as she waved her hand in front of the Latino boy's face. "I think you telling him that his soul his mixed with yours kind of froze him."
"Yeah, kind of figured that would happen." Scarlet said as she got up from seat, walked over and stood in front of Marco.
"WAKE UP!" She yelled loudly which scared Marco back to reality.
"What!? What happened!?"
"You zoned out on us is what happened. Though I guess finding out your soul is bonded with a dragon who's been living in something your mother gave you will do that people." Scarlet said as she sat down with Marco and Star on the bed.
"Yeah, I guess. Wait, my mom said my grandparents had this necklace before giving it to her. Did they know that they had something with a dragon sleeping inside it?" Marco asked. "Nope, cause I didn't wake up around them and I didn't wake up while your mother had me either." Scarlet answered.
"So you only just now woke up when Marco had you? How come?" Star asked.
"I don't really know. Maybe I responded to him because I picked up the scent of magic off of him." "You can smell magic?" Marco asked.
"Well yeah, dragons are deeply rooted in the history of magic. So much so that we can even smell it as if it were a normal scent." Scarlet said as she took a quick sniff around Marco. "And from what I'm smelling off of you Marco, it smells as if you've been bathing in magic since you met Star."
"Yeah well, Marco and I did go on a ton of adventures which involved a lot of magic now and then." Star said.
"Yeah, I can literally smell it off his skin here." Scarlet said which got her and Star laughing.
"Okay, I think I need some time to process all this stuff, I just heard. Unless there's more I need to know about." Marco said looking to the red head.
"Not that I can remember at this time," Scarlet said as she got up and stretched a bit. "Alright, I'm going to sleep now." "Huh? But it's not even dark out yet." Star said.
"Yeah, but getting you two to talk out your issues and fighting a lint monster as well as talking a lot, tends to wear me out fast. So Marco, if you don't mind," Scarlet yawned as she pointed to her chest.
Marco having gotten the message, un-zipped his hoodie and held out the crystal. Before Scarlet touched it though, she thought of something.
"Oh yeah, one other thing Marco."
"Yeah?" "Since our souls are bonded to each other, you're going to be able to use some of my abilities." "Wha-" "I'll tell you what they are later alright? Good,"
Scarlet then touched the crystal and started glowing red, before turning into a small red orb that quickly vanished into the crystal.
Marco and Star just looked at the each other and then looked down at the crystal.
"So… she's just going to live in there now?" Star asked.
"I… guess so." Marco said as he laid back onto the his bed.
"Are you going to be okay?" she asked. "I don't know Star," He said. "This whole soul merging thing, it's just throwing me for a crazy loop right now."
"Well... it's not like you haven't been on crazy loops before. I mean you were on the one of the craziest when we met." Star said smiling.
"That's true, and something tells me I'm in for an even crazier loop with you and Scarlet in the mix." Marco said.
"That you are my squire." Star said as she laid down next to her best friend.
A/N: Finally got this out, Sorry to make you guys wait this long. Like I said flash drive issues and all that. So Scarlet's told Marco and Star a bit of what she knows. The rest... she forgot, why? Does the word "reincarnation" mean anything to you guys by chance? ;) Anyway, I'll be deciding what to do for the next chapter, until then See Ya ;)
