Authors Note:
Well Hello there haha. So for anyone who bothers to click on this welcome back first off. Second off I'm so sorry it took SOOO long to post this. The tea is that I had an ending written out like 5 years ago, but it was literally just the ending. And then I sorta lost interest in the show and a ton of personal life stuff happened and now here I am years later finally trying to pump out an ending for yall. This isn't the last chapter, I have at least one more in the works so bear with me. I had to rewrite EVERYTHING because the original website I had it saved on got deleted from existence.
Also, so I completely forgot about the end of Black Butler Season 2 like all together, so re-watching it to get the quotes I needed and understand the plot was a wild ride. I also forgot about the Hannah mess with Luka and ima be real I couldn't take it seriously because what the actual hell was this show on haha. Anyways so if there's some points where Avril is like meta as heck that the author speaking their opinions about this messy business through her. So without further ado enjoy this little treat from an author who is very sorry.
Third Person POV
At the entrance of the maze stood Hannah, Claude, and Sebastian. All looking past the maze at the top of a large structure where Ciel Phantomhive stood. The female demon revealed to the others that despite it being Ciel's body standing on the edge of the building, the soul inside was actually Alois Trancy's. Hannah had found a weakness within Ciel's heart and used it to give Alois a chance to take over Ciel's body completely. Hannah then charged the two male demons with a task: go through the maze, a metaphor for Alois' heart, and pass each section by answering a question correctly. Otherwise Alois would throw himself, and thereby Ciel, off of the ledge. Claude and Sebastian agreed, Claude seeming far more positive about the outcome ending in his favor.
Within the building, behind the clock, stood Avril Phantomhive. Watching patiently, hoping that her advice had made sense to Sebastian. When Hannah joined Ciel on the ledge, Avril moved closer, ready to move should the young boy actually fall, but staying out of the way. She had been ordered directly by her master to stay out of this battle unless the life of Ciel was in grave danger. Feeling frustrated and frightened, the young hybrid watched the events unfold before her through the glass in her private room. Her master's orders prevented her from taking anymore steps closer to the action.
Avril's POV
I watched Sebastian and Claude come up to the first question. I felt my stomach twist into knots. This maze was designed by Claude. He knew every question and every answer. This entire thing was set up against Sebastian.
'Come on Stefan. Remember what I told you,'
"Question: What is Alois Trancy's real name?" Claude read the card outloud.
"I believe I can recall the answer to that. Alois' real name was Jim Matki-"Sebastian started before a patch of vines grabbed him and yanked him up in the air, a buzzer sounding to indicate that it was the wrong answer.
'Damn it' I cursed silently. 'I had even told the fool to think like Alois' not in truth. Did he even listen to me? Perhaps he really was trying to betray me…'
I shook my head, trying desperately to force down those fears. I could not trust Sebastian for myself, but I had to trust that he wanted Ciel more than anything. I had to trust his dedication to their contract.
Claude made some snide remark about the maze, how it was built to keep out those who do not belong, and then gave the correct answer.
"The answer Jim Matkin is wrong. His real name is Alois' Trancy,"Claude stated, earning a bell to indicate he passed.
"How so? I thought that was the name given to him by the former Earl Trancy, the man who defiled him?"Sebastian demanding.
'I guess my advice didn't make much sense to someone whos metaphorical imagination are limited to saying he's "one hell of a butler". I hope he figures it out after this, he's going to loose if he doesn't.'
"True, but however vile the old man might have been, Alois was still quite taken by his new name." Claude responded.
Sebastian looked as though something clicked in his brain.
"So that's how this game is played. A thing is true only if Alois' Trancy thinks it is. That complicates matters,"the demon muttered to himself.
Claude proceeded to move forward while Sebastian struggled in the vines. Suddenly a shrill voice sounded followed by redhead.
'Grell. Right on time. Good to know that idiot did as he was told for once. Now he just needs to help Sebastian out the rest of the way,'
Grell stood there with a camera, fussing over how attractive Sebastian looked tied up in vines. I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore the unavoidable jealousy I felt. As much as I hated him right now, I loved him just as much. I put my hand on the necklace and signed.
'Avril I would advise you put those thoughts to bed. You know he'll only hurt you in the end,' Claude thought to me.
I shivered and grimaced, remembering the night before. I let my hand fall and closed my eyes, forcing my master out. I couldn't have him in my head during this. He was right though. Now is not the time to feel. I needed to focus. But standing idly by and watching was killing me.
When I reopened my eyes I saw Grell had freed Sebastian and they had moved on. Claude had also moved on to the next question, still ahead of Sebastian.
I focused my attention to the ledge again, watching Alois scratch Ciel's chest bloody while laughing about how well Claude knows him. Despite willing my body to move, Ciel was not in any immediate danger and so the direct order from my master kept me still. I cursed, shaking as I struggled against the order. I wanted to go out there and stop him, for both boys sakes. Hannah and Claude should have never messed with Alois's soul. They should have let the poor boy go in peace.
Alois began to kick Hannah violently, demanding to know why everyone loved Ciel more than he.
I had to look away from the scene, turning my attention back towards Sebastian and Grell. Sebastian had used Grell to determine if the answers were rigged or not. I giggled a little watching the reaper get blown up, though I felt a little guilty seeing as I had called him here to help. I appreciated it more than I'll ever admit. Sebastian continued out, pressing the stamp necessary to move along.
Suddenly I heard a cry from Alois. I looked at him and saw him struggling with himself.
"He's pitching some kind of fit! The little brat!"Alois growled.
I gasped. Ciel was still in there. Fighting to regain control.
'I only hope he can do it fast enough. If he can turn the maze, make it about him, Sebastian might stand a better shot at winning. I need him to win.'
Alois started screaming at Claude, demanding that he hurry up and use the advantage that Alois gave him.
'The child has no idea how poisoned he is from my master. My master rigged this game to where any questions coming from Alois would ensure his success. My master knows exactly what this child will say and demand. But with Hannah interfering the way she has, Ciel stands a chance to turn this.'
After Claude answered his next question Alois began to cry, telling himself that Claude loves him. Suddenly he began to hold his head, shaking. The ground shook as the maze began to morph into a different shape. Ciel had done it. He had taken back some control. I turned toward Sebastian, who had reached his next question.
" Question: Ciel Phantomhive was wronged. Has he already achieved his revenge?"Sebastian read outloud, "This one is different,"
Sebastian paused, looking up at the building towards Ciel and Hannah. He looked like he was trying to decide if this was a trick.
"Alright. The answer is...yes," Sebastian answered finally, hearing the bell ring indicating he guessed correctly.
After he pressed his stamp into his booklet he paused, noticing that it took the shape of one of the company's best selling toys. He then mused to himself about how it was now Ciel standing on the ledge, not Alois.
I however, saw the truth. The two souls were fighting each other. Ciel might have been able to change Sebastian's questions, but Alois still played his part, asking Claude his own questions. Once Claude had reached the end of the maze he was asked why he had killed Alois'.
I gasped at the question. I knew the answer. He wanted to use him to gain Ciel's soul. I was curious to see how he would answer this.
"Alright. I murdered him out of passion. I killed him for love. It was the only way that I could…"he paused.
Suddenly I felt the wall I had put up break and felt my master struggle with the words. The direct order to tell the truth that come back to bite him in the ass. The power he was using to try and lie to Alois' right now was so intense I felt myself get winded. In the end however, he had to give in and tell the truth. He sighed, his facade never breaking on the inside, despite feeling how infuriated he was by the one question he had not predicted.
"I needed you as a tool to obtain Ciel Phantomhive's soul. That's the reason why I murdered you," he said plainly, irritation seeping through however.
Suddenly a buzzer went of to indicated it was the wrong answer and he fell through the maze floor. Alois' began to spiral after this. I winced, seeing him fall to pieces over Claude's answer and screaming at Ciel. He wanted to know why Ciel was fighting him. Why he was being so greedy trying to take Claude from him. Hannah hugged him tightly, trying to get him to stop crying and then said just about the weirdest thing she could have.
"There's no need to cry. You'll always be the best there is big brother,"
Both Alois' and myself gasped, although I feel for different reasons. I was just shocked that she would say something so strange at a time like this. Judging by the look on Ciel's face however, Alois' had different feelings. I was too in shock to realize that Claude had be shot all the way back to the beginning and was answering his newest question.
"First question: Why did Luka sign a contract with Sebastian Michaelis? How should I answer this when the question itself is inherently incorrect? The underlying assumption here is quite wrong. The contract was not signed with Sebastian, but Hannah Annafellows. It was her, also known as the sheath that holds the demon sword,"
My head snapped up, looking from Claude, to Ciel, to Hannah. The confusion growing inside me.
'Well that explains a lot. Except it doesn't. What on earth was going on here? What does this have to do with the issue at hand at all, except for the fact that Hannah now has a connection with Alois.'
I listened in confusion to Hannah's explanation. She told her story about how Luka made a deal with her to fulfil Alois' wish of destroying the town. She talked about how Luka was different from any other soul she had taken, saying that his kindness made her develope motherly feelings towards the boy. Despite this she still fulfilled his wish to destroy the townspeople, and for this Luka thanked Hannah, something she had never had happen to her in her lifetime as a demon.
I looked at the demon in complete bewilderment. This powerful demon tolerated this boy jabbing her eye out and other countless indecencies simply because one soul within her had an attachment to him? I failed to see the logic there. She had to have ulterior motives.
Claude moved on to the next question, answering that he did in fact know about Hannah's connection to Alois', and was fascinated by her obsession.
'Interesting. There was something in the way my master was thinking about her that only affirmed my thoughts that Hannah was plotting something more sinister than she let on.
"Is it true?"
"Master I can still see Luka within you. No matter how much you despised me, just being near you made me happy. That closeness was almost enough for me. I love him, Luka. But that's not the whole of it. I love my master Jim Matkin. Now master, no brother. Sign a new contract with me and then be reunited, both of you inside me. It's what we desire most, myself and Luka," Hannah told Alois, her voice full of emotion.
I could not believe what I was hearing. She was trying to make another contract. This was bad, very bad. Because knowing Alois, it would either be something to hurt Claude or something to hurt Ciel. Knowing my luck it would be the latter and I would lose my brother forever just because this she-demon has cuddly feelings for two children. What she was proposing...she honestly thought that by having both souls it would complete her? I shook hard, desperately trying to move myself to interfere with what she was trying to do. My brother caught between all of this. I felt my chest tighten once more, with guilt. If I had just gotten to him sooner. If I had just taken him with me. None of this would have happened. It's all my fault.
A sudden thud pulled me from my guilty spiral as I looked down to see Claude back to the final question. I stopped moving to look at what he was doing, noticing that he answered incorrectly once again, but dodging the maze's attempts to dispose of him. Til the end when he stopped, saying he would not be fooled twice only to have the floor go out from under him. If things hadn't been so dire I would have laughed to see my master at such a disadvantage.
Sebastian stood over him, foot on Claude's hand.
"Good evening...Claude,"Sebastian spat.
The two brothers looked at eachother coldly, Sebastian almost looked like he was radiating demonic energy. Before I could make a full assessment however, my attention was diverted back to Ciel and Hannah, when Alois cried out.
I began to shake once again as I struggled against the orders my master had left me. His control tightened over me as he stared up at Sebastian. Ciel and Alois were fighting for control over Ciel's body, Ciel finally managing to take control in the end.
Despite being relieved to know he was in control of his own body again, I turned to Sebastian, after feeling my master's emotions turn from frustration to almost pure joy.
"He saw you! He saw you,"Claude sang out.
'Real mature master. Aren't you supposed to be the older brother,'I thought to him, and winced, expecting some form of his rath.
Instead all I felt was that joy again, almost as if he didn't even hear me. He make some childish hand pose around his eyes, further taunting Sebastian. Unfortunately my master was correct, Ciel had never lifted the order that Sebastian could be seen by him. He was at a crossroads.
"Don't just stand there! You did your part! You helped me to achieve my revenge. This is an order: Eat my soul right now! Until the final moment when you have devoured every last drop of my soul, you remain my butler. Do you understand me Sebastian?"Ciel shouted.
I stood, frozen, hearing those words. It made everything feel so real. My little brother. I already grieved his soul once, thinking that not only I took it but that my master had devoured it. Now here he stood, telling Sebastian to take what he earned. I knew this was coming. This was the best option for my brother, and yet it still broke my heart. I looked to Sebastian. I was still so angry with him. Every part of me was screaming against letting this happen, letting him take my brother. I wanted to take Ciel and run so badly. Away from demons who hurt us and used us. Away from all this and back home.
Suddenly the room around me shook. I noticed Hannah and Ciel, or was it Alois, walking in to where I was. They were discussing the terms of the deal.
"I want them both to lose Ciel. Neither one gets him. Make them fight to the death. I want Ciel's soul to be forever out of their grasps no matter who wins or loses,"Alois told Hannah.
"Alois please stop this!"I cried out.
He turned to me, smiling sadly.
"Avril, is this where you've been hiding this whole time? I'm glad you get to see this. After all this is as much for you as it is for me,"
I shook my head, tears falling.
"Please don't do this! Leave Ciel alone please Alois,"
He merely shook his head. He walked over to me and grabbed my hand gently.
"I knew it. You love him more than me. And oddly enough, I can't find it in my heart to hate you. Ciel doesn't either if it's any consolation. That is the only thing in which we agree. Avril, I want you to have your brother. This way, he can never die if all goes well. Don't you see? Now neither of them will end his life. Whoever wins will spend the rest of eternity protecting Ciel no matter what,"
I looked into Ciel's eyes, thinking over what he was saying. He intended to make Ciel a demon by the end of this. The more I thought on it, the better is sounded. He was right. Now neither gets him. Suddenly I felt my master release the order to stay put, telling me to do something.
But he never told me to stop the deal.
"As you wish, master,"
