Authors Note: Hello again all. So this is part one of the ending, i had to split it up because it felt wrong to just dump it all in one chapter? So uhhh so sorry in advanced. Also I'm just going to come out and say it: The end to Black Butler season two is a straight up MESS. So i hope this is a little better and a little less weird. Of course this is just my reinterpretation of course and I'm sorry if you are a die hard fan of the first two seasons haha. Okay without further ado, the second to last chapter!
I sighed and hugged the child in front of me. I knew what I had to do. I sealed my master from my mind one more time, feeling my strength weaken. I pulled away from my hug and looked at Hannah, walking away from Ciel.
"You promise to let Ciel go once the contract is complete?"I asked finally.
Alois and Hannah both gasped in shock. Neither one had expected me to agree so quickly. I was tired though. Tired of fighting those two, tired of letting their foolish feud and demonic urges rule our lives.
"Of course. Once I have taken my master's soul Ciel will be left alone. I'm shocked that you'd agree so quickly,"Hannah said.
"I am as well. Unless Claude wants you to do this,"Alois suggested, suspicion in his voice.
"Not at all. If anything he will be grievously upset with me for allowing this contract to take place. Because in truth Alois, this contract means more than just a fight for Ciel's soul, or so they think. This battle with end in my freedom or allow me to stay by my brother's side for the rest of eternity and keep him safe. Even if it is in hell. As selfish as it sounds...he's all I have left and I'm not ready to loose my brother,"I explained sadly.
The two looked between themselves and at me. Alois then nodded and walked over to Hannah. He asked for a hug from her and then they made the contract. Just before my master and Sebastian had arrived I turned to Hannah, who was kneeling next to Alois.
"I'm going to the demon island to prepare the stage. I'll see you soon. Take care of him please,"I told her softly.
She merely nodded to me, her attention on the crying child in front of her. I left just as Claude and Sebastian burst into the room.
I arrived on the demon island, still an destructive mess from when Sebastian had been here last. He really did have a horrible temper that demon. I walked to the area that would be the stage for this fight, a cave on the island filled with green crystal stalagmites and stalactites. I felt the wall in my mind break, my master's emotions bursting in. He was furious. I don't think I have ever felt his anger this intensely, and I knew part of it was for me.
'Avril how could you? You never learn your lesson. For this, you will be grievously punished. Til I can do so however, you are going to fight with me. You will fight until either I claim victory or die understood? You will fight my brother, without holding back, and help me kill him understood?' He ordered.
I shivered and felt my chest tighten. I knew this would be a possibility, but it didn't make the situation any better. I tried to focus my energy on my anger toward both Sebastian and my master. Neither of them deserved either of us. So in the end they would both lose one way or another. I would see to it.
'Could you really let him kill Sebastian though?'a tiny voice in the back of my mind thought.
I shook my head, closing my eyes tightly. How was it that I had spent almost 11 years forcing my emotions down, but this damned demon coming along making me feel loved causes all that hard work to go to shit? Because the answer was I had no idea if I would be able to do it. This fight was for Ciel but I knew there would be a slight possibility that the three of us could make it out of here. Maybe I could trust Sebastian again. Maybe...No. A image of him in the cellar came into my mind and I opened my eyes looking around at the gem stalagmites sticking up from the ground. He deserved whatever was coming to him.
Hannah, carrying Ciel's limp body, Claude, and Sebastian arrived finally, airing out the details of this fight and what was at stake.
"We can use any weapon at our disposal correct?"Claude asked, looking smug.
"I suppose, although the one to deal the final blow must be one of you and it must be with the demon sword,"Hannah stated, looking nervously at me.
I stepped forward and stood straight and stiff. Sebastian's head looked in my direction and I saw his demeanor change.
"Honestly brother you can't even fight your own battled? You have to drag her into this? Haven't you done enough?"Sebastian snarled.
"Funny hearing that coming from you brother, considering what you did to her last night,"Claude retorted, looking even more smug.
"Enough. Let's get this over and done with,"I snapped, not needing a reminder.
I walked over to Hannah and held her right arm, while my master held her left. It was time to retrieve the demon sword from the sheath. Sebastian took his glove off and reached inside her mouth and pulled the sword out. I winced, glad I never was used to host a weapon of any kind. Almost made me feel bad for her. Hannah brushed Claude and I off and stood up.
"No human weapon known is powerful enough to fatally wound a demon. That said, a wound caused by a demon sword will never heal. The damage done by such a blow is permanent," Hannah said, taking the sword from Sebastian and throwing it onto the ceiling of the cave,"There is no hope for a soul pierced by a demon sword. It will be utterly obliterated,"
Hannah then turned back towards the two male demons, standing in between the two. I took my place next to Claude, and looked down, waiting for the fight to officially begin.
"Now then…"Hannah started.
"A demon duel with a single sword…"Claude started.
"A singular sword to battle for a singular soul,"Sebastian finished, looking between the two of us,"I still think it is hardly fair that she is here to help you fight,"
"She will only be here to help me keep you still, as Hannah stated I shall be the one to deliver the final blow dear brother. Now let's finish this, I need to end your life like I should have done thousands of years ago,"Claude said seriously, both men getting into a fighting stance.
Hannah raised her arms and the three of us began to circle around her.
"When this is done I will sink my teeth into the young masters soul!"Claude shouted as the two demons jumped up to grab the demon sword.
I sprang into action and grabbed Sebastian before he could grab the sword, knocking him into a wall.
"Avril stop! Let me go!"He shouted at me.
I held onto him struggling, until he finally had no choice but to shove me off of him. He barely dodged Claude's attack and went to go counter attack. I shot forward and kicked him in the gut, shooting him back away from my master.
"Most excellent Avril! If I didn't know any better I would think you want him dead too!"Claude laughed.
He shot off at Sebastian who was still trying to recover from my blow. Claude pinned him down, holding the sword just above his heart, and Sebastian's quick reflexes only barely managed to grab the sword's blade and hold it up away from hitting its mark.
"Funny how all this turned out no brother? All it took was a quick disguise and a piece of your soul to convince my harlot here that you would betray her. Now she is more than willing to kill you for me, she barely fought the order,"Claude sneered at Sebastian, shaking slightly as he tried to force the sword down further.
Sebastian snarled and threw Claude off of him, radiating demon energy.
"I knew it was you! How dare you hurt her like that! You've taken enough from me brother I won't lose my master to you," Sebastian snarled.
"What you're telling me you honestly care for her? Please brother we both know she isn't worth your affection. She's a hybrid. She's a worthless slut. There's nothing more she can offer besides her-"Claude was cut off when Sebastian's foot hit him in the face, sending him flying.
"Don't you dare talk about the woman I love like that!"he snarled, eyes glowing demonic red.
'Woman I love…'
Did Sebastian really just say that? I stood frozen my eyes wide with shock. Sebastian had managed to knock the demon sword away from Claude and now was going after it.
"Avril move! Get the sword!"my master ordered.
I felt my body move before I could even begin to process what I had just heard and grabbed the sword. I dropped to the ground, feeling the Earth shake beneath me and held the sword tight in my hand.
"Is it true master?"I muttered.
The two had stopped fighting and looked to me. I stood up and looked at both demons, feeling the tears fall down my face. I was shaking, my knuckles almost white from holding onto the sword.
"What are you talking about give me the sword!"Claude snarled.
I held still, looking at him feeling the anger rise in me.
"Did you pretend to be Sebastian? Is it true?"I shouted at him.
I didn't know what to believe. It felt like a trick. I had to be a trick. My master merely growled and ran over to me, grabbing the sword before Sebastian or myself could stop him.
"You're insolence has run its course!"he growled, grabbing my arm tightly and holding the sword at my throat.
"Stay put brother, I need to teach our girl a lesson. You move to save her and my hand might just slip,"he warned, breaking my arm when he finished talking.
Claude took advantage of Sebastian being distracted by me and darted to higher ground. I knelt down and held my arm. I felt like my world was spiraling out of place and I looked at Sebastian, who was staring at me, fear evident in his eyes. Before he could move however, my master started to speak again
"Now brother as much as I enjoy watching you fall to pieces over this pathetic wench it is time to finish this. That soul will be mine and I will tear it apart piece by piece. Time for you to die,"
My master looked at me with an evil grin and raised the sword, pointing it at Sebastian.
'Time to choose dear April Showers. Will you help me kill my brother or will you be the next to die?'he thought to me.
I felt time stop. I looked at Sebastian and saw he was trying to move towards me. I saw him say my name and I saw the sword move through the air in his direction.
'Could you help your master kill him?' The voice asked again.
Before I could answer I stood up and pushed Sebastian out of the swords path and felt it go right into stomach, shooting me back.
The last thing I saw was Sebastian running toward me.
Sebastian's POV
I ran to Avril, not caring what happened to me. I needed her to know I wasn't going to betray her. I needed her to win this. She could fight his orders I know she could.
Little did I know she would fight his orders. I saw her stand up and next thing I knew she was pushing me away from her and I hit the ground hard. Then I heard it. A gut wrenching tearing sound. I looked up and saw Avril being shot back against the cave wall, the demon sword in her stomach, blood pooling out from her. I ran to her, no longer caring about Raphael in this moment. All that mattered was her. I got up to her and pulled the sword out. I took my jacket off and wrapped it around her open wounds, my hands trembling violently.
"Avril...love talk to me please,"I whispered shaking her shoulders slightly, trying to get her to open her eyes.
The ground began to shake, the force of the demon sword hitting the wall caused the island to begin to split open. Avril wasn't moving. Her eyes were closed. The only indication that she was even still alive was I could hear her raspy breaths.
"Avril please wake up. You're going to be okay,"
"No she won't brother. You heard what Hannah said, nobody can survive a hit from that sword,"Claude sneered from behind me somewhere.
"Don't you die on me yet. I'm going to end this once and for all love,"I whispered in her ear, pressing a kiss to her forehead before standing up.
I grabbed the sword just as Claude went to grab it and swung it on him, my demonic self coming out in full. My hands were covered in Avril's blood and despite feeling my entire being shake, my hands remained steady.
"This will end now,"I growled and began to swing, attacking with all the force I could muster.
I swung to attack him, noticing out of my peripheral that Hannah had grabbed both Phantomhives and shot up to the surface with them.
'Good, this way she'll be with her brother no matter what happens' was all I thought before diverting all my attention to killing my brother.
We danced, him dodging every single blow I attempted to land, and I dodging all his attempts to take the sword from me.
The fight didn't last long once we were above ground. Within a few minutes, my moment to attack had come. He stepped on a ledge and it caved underneath his weight. I lunged forward and struck him right through the chest, pinning him to the earth below with the sword.
"It's over. You're dreams of tearing the young master apart are finished. Now you can no longer harm either one of the Phantomhive children,"I stated, glaring at him intensely.
"The young master has such a sweet soul. Even as I wither away I can smell his rich untainted fragrance. And Avril, my sweet April Showers... In the end I never truly had either one because of you brother. The fight is over, the battle for his worthy soul has finally reached its conclusion. You finally won. Does it feel as rewarding as you thought it would Stefan? Killing me for a human soul and a demon whore?"my brother said weakly.
I felt my hands shake and pulled my fist back, hitting my brother in the face.
"You're death was a long time coming brother. You are the cause of your own downfall, don't you see? The soul you were most infatuated with was Avril's, not my young masters or even Alois Trancy's. She was the one soul you couldn't have. And it is because of her that you are here now. You'll die as she intended, and she'll be free finally,"
"Avril…"he coughed up some blood, laughing slightly, "Yes. I only agreed to her terms because I never expected her to actually stay with it. Most girls beg me to end their suffering. She never did. You understand, I've had a very long idle life as a demon. I've devoured my fair share of souls, yours included brother. If Avril Phantomhive managed to spice it up a bit, then perhaps I have underestimated her soul. I would have taken great pleasure in tearing it apart piece by piece. But now it's over, done. You might want to leave if you want to say goodbye to her Stefan. She's fading as we speak,"
"You're remarkably talkative considering the severity of your injury. Let's solve that problem,"I growled, ripping the sword out and running it through him again, this time through his heart.
Just like that my brother was dead. The light left his eyes as I stood back up, feeling myself shake.
'She's fading as we speak…'
I ran to the surface, the rain hitting me hard, and found Hannah with both the Phantomhives. Avril's head was propped up in Hannah's lap, her eyes closed. There was a puddle of blood beneath her and she looked so pale. Next to her was Ciel, still unconscious, and the two were holding hands.
"Is she…"I choked out, unable to finish the sentence.
Hannah simply shook her head and looked back down at the bleeding girl. Avril's eyes opened, ever so slightly and I knelt next to her, holding her hand.
"St-stefan?"she whispered.
"It's me. I'm here. I did it. He's dead," I told her hurriedly, kissing her forehead again.
She felt so cold. I heard her cough and saw she coughed up some more blood. For the first time in a long time I felt fear. Fear that just as I had gotten her I was going to lose her. It was suffocating.
"There has to be something I can do. Hannah please help her I can't lose her!"I shouted at the maid.
I felt Avril's hand tighten around mine and looked to her, tears in my eyes. I noticed she was also crying. Her blue eyes looked darker somehow, and she looked sad.
"Stefan...thank you,"she whispered.
"Whatever for my dear? Let's get you patched up it'll be okay I promise. We just-"
"Sush now. It's okay. You loved me Stefan. You saved my brother from an eternity with my master. That's all I could-"she coughed again, more blood covering her chest,"All I could ever ask for. Take care of Ciel for me please,"
I shook my head, crying now. I couldn't promise her that I was going to devour his soul.
"Please stay. Once I eat Ciel's soul I'll be all alone again. Please...please don't leave me Avril,"I cried, taking her from Hannah's lap and holding her in my arms tightly.
I felt her lips on my hand as she kissed it softly.
"You won't be alone...I love you too Stefan,"she said softly.
She closed her eyes and I felt her take one last shaky breath and that was it. She was gone. I sobbed into her lifeless body, clutching on to the last piece of her I had left.
'The first women I loved since I became this wretched being… stolen away from me. There is no greater hell than this,'
