"Sebastian...I know this is not easy for you, but she asked me to give you this,"Hannah said, holding her hand out in front of me.
It was the necklace I gave her. Inside where it held the last pieces of my soul, only the coloring was different. When I gave it to her, my soul alone was bright red. Now however it shone a deep purple color. I took it in my hands and looked it over.
"What did she do to it?"I asked, softly.
"She asked me to put a piece of her soul in there, for you,"
I felt like the wind was taken out of me. I held the necklace tightly, feeling her warm soul radiate from it. I placed the necklace around my own neck and laid Avril down gently.
"Well the battle is done. You're deal with Alois Trancy is finished now. Let me have my young master now," I said, hearing the emptiness in my own voice.
"I'm afraid there is one more thing Sebastian. Part of my masters contract was that neither one of you should get Ciel Phantomhive. So he will not die, but rather be reborn as a demon," Hannah stated plainly, standing up and straightening out her gown.
My head snapped to her, shock coursing through me. There was no way, the least I could have done was let Avril be with her brother together, but instead he's damned for eternity? And I…
'You won't be alone…'
"Avril knew didn't she?"
"Yes. The young master had asked her to not stop him from making the deal. She agreed knowing either way he would be safe as whoever won would be forced to stay with him and serve as his loyal servant," Hannah told me softly, pity in her voice.
I looked back down at Avril's body and sighed. I looked at my young master's body, already sensing the change in him. I stood up, brushing my hair away from my eyes and straightening my shirt.
"Very well. I shall comply with her wishes and my master's orders," I said solemnly.
At that the young master opened his eyes, now a vibrant red color. I helped him sit up and he looked me over.
"My Sebastian you look awful. I'm surprised at how well you're taking this,"the young lord stated, looking amused for a second.
Then he looked behind me and saw Avril's body, and I felt his body go rigid.
"Avril… she… no… "was all the young master said before shoving me away from him, crawling over to her body.
I looked at him sadly, before I realized something.
"Hannah, my young master still has his soul. Albeit trapped within his demon body, but it is there. What is the meaning of this?" I questioned.
"That was my young master's plan. He figured if Claude suffered as much as he did with Miss. Avril's soul being so close and so out of reach, he wanted whoever won to feel it with Lord Phantomhive. He's a hybrid just like his sister," Hannah answered, "Now if you'll excuse me I have somewhere else to be now. Farewell Sebastian Michaelis. Pray we never cross paths again,"
And then she was gone. I looked down at the young master who was crying over his sister's body and winced.
"Come my lord. Let us take her away from this dreadful place. We can prepare a proper funeral for her," I told him, trying as hard as I could to keep my tone even.
The young master let me help him up, but demanded to carry her as we went to the boat. We left the island behind, just as the rain began to clear. By the time we reached civilization once more, the sun was shining, a rare occurrence indeed for London. We took Avril's body back to the manor and there we held a small funeral, with myself, the young master, Undertaker, and the household servants being the only ones in attendance. I stayed quite as Undertaker lowered her casket into the ground, trying to remain in character for the young master and the servants. While the Undertaker was putting dirt in the grave, Ciel came up to me, tears staining his face.
"Sebastian, tell me the truth. Did my sister die in vain?"
"That depends on how you wish to view it young master. She died… saving me. She wished for you to spend eternity with me rather than Claude. So if you feel I am not worthy of your sister's life then perhaps indeed she did...die in vain," I said, my voice faltering.
The young master raised his hand as if he wanted to smack me. I waited for the impact, but it never came. Instead he did something most surprising. He hugged me.
"If that was her dying wish then so be it. You and I shall never leave each others side, no matter what. We will not let her death be a regrettable one," the young master told me seriously.
He pulled away and wiped his face, trying to get rid of the tears. He looked back up at me and handed me his handkerchief. It was at that moment I realized I had begun to cry.
"If anyone had to love my sister, I'm glad it was you Sebastian. Now I will leave you alone for a moment and when you come back inside we shall prepare for tomorrow's schedule understood?"
I simply nodded, taking the handkerchief from the lord and dabbing my eyes dry. I then knelt down and put my arm across my chest.
"As you wish, my lord,"
The child nodded and turned around, telling the servants to go inside and rest up for the rest of today. He followed behind them, standing tall. This child has now lost everyone in his family. I stood up and walked over to the grave, now fully covered in dirt.
"Thank you Undertaker,"
The reaper tipped his hat to me and left. It was the first time I think he had ever left without saying something cryptic. I sat down on my knees next to the grave, feeling the tears fall freely now.
"I will do my best to my your brother happy and protect him. I just wish you could be here with it," I spoke softly, my voice shaking with emotion.
I took the red rose from my breast pocket. I kissed it softly and laid it on her head stone.
"For you my love. I hope you are finally able to know freedom, wherever you are,"
I stood up, brushing the dirt off my pants and wiping the remaining tears away. I walked back toward the manor, my hand on the necklace containing Avril's soul. I was to be Ciel Phantomhive's servant for eternity, and in exchange his sister would finally be free. It is a fitting end to her story, the story of Avril Phantomhive.
Author's note: Thank you to anyone who read this story, both this and the first one! I have loved my OC Avril for a very long time and knew this was how this story was going to end for a VERY long time. My friend Helena inspired me to write the ending finally, and so I did. I thank you all again to those who read this and left reviews.
