Chapter 8: A Make-Up Date
A week had passed since SpongeBob and Sandy's very conflicting date at the same time as Patrick and Mindy's. SpongeBob felt very worried that Sandy might be feeling badly about him after what had happened, even though she had always told him that she would love him.
SpongeBob had an idea to try to regain what had seemingly been lost last week. Obviously, it was another date with Sandy. However, SpongeBob figured out that if he were to be a little more low-key, he could make it easier for things to recover. Earlier that day, SpongeBob called Patrick to know if he was on a date with Mindy to make sure his wouldn't be happening at the same time and place.
So he dialed Sandy's phone number and prepared to call her. "Hi, Sandy," SpongeBob said calmly, with a serious tone. "Howdy, Spongey," she replied.
SpongeBob felt happy after hearing her familiar voice and accent. But he still had to keep calm.
"Listen, uh, Sandy, I'm kind of sorry about what happened last week. Even though Patrick was the one who – "
"It's okay, SpongeBob. But I know it was you. You had crumbs on your face. But…I guess that happens sometimes."
"As I said, it wasn't me!" SpongeBob said, now slightly upset.
"Anyway, you want to go on another date? I would be fine with that," Sandy replied.
"Sure. Well, this time, could we go to somewhere more private?" SpongeBob asked Sandy.
"What do you mean?" asked Sandy.
"You know, like…" SpongeBob desperately tried to figure out a "more private" place to go on a date. "…like, the park."
"That's your idea of 'more private'?" asked Sandy.
SpongeBob thought for a few seconds about how to respond.
"I mean, the park isn't exactly private, but I feel like it's a lot less likely for anything to go wrong."
"Well, I guess you are right about that," Sandy replied. "When do you want to meet?"
"Would Saturday afternoon work?" SpongeBob asked her. "We could have lunch there."
"Sounds fine," replied Sandy.
"See you then!" The two then ended their call. SpongeBob was glad to be going on another date with Sandy, but still was a little worried about some of his trust being lost.
On Saturday, just as they had planned, Sandy arrived at SpongeBob's house. He had already prepared the lunch they would have.
"Come in, Sandy!" he said, with a smile on his face. Sandy opened the door. She came in, with a similar expression as SpongeBob. Sandy was dressed in clothes that weren't that fancy, but to the sponge, that didn't matter. She was still beautiful. Beautiful enough to almost forget that SpongeBob used to be in a relationship with SpongeSusie.
The park was fairly nearby, so they didn't need any transportation to get there. SpongeBob wanted to hold Sandy's hand, but he wasn't sure that Sandy was ready to do that again. He knew that things hadn't fully recovered yet, and hoped this date would fix everything back to normal.
When they finally got to the park, SpongeBob laid out the mat and got out their sandwiches that he had prepared. And they began conversation. "So, Sandy, how's life treating you?" SpongeBob flirtatiously asked his date.
"Oh, it's alright, I guess…" Sandy replied. "Just feelin' a little bit uncomfortable, sort of."
"Don't worry, Sandy," the sponge replied. "I feel that way all the time!"
"Really?" asked Sandy.
"Sure! Like for example, when I'm sitting on a chair with a tack someone left on it."
"That's nice, SpongeBob," Sandy said in a semi-enthusiastic tone. They both were silent for a while as they were eating. And then the silence broke, and become something much worse than silence…
"SpongeBob, let me put this in the nicest way possible…" Sandy uneasily said.
Oh, no, SpongeBob thought, worried. This can't possibly end well.
"Don't get me wrong, SpongeBob. You're cute, you're kind, and you're very gentle. But…I don't think you and I should be hangin' out together."
"What do you mean?" SpongeBob nervously answered. "I'm fine!"
"It's not so much you, it's more me."
"Oh."
"What I mean is," Sandy continued with a sorrowful expression, "I shouldn't have gotten myself into this. I really shouldn't have. I expected a lot from you, and I guess you're not really the person I want to be with for the rest of my life."
"NO!" SpongeBob shouted in horror and sadness. "This can't be happening! What happened last night wasn't my fault! We can still make this relationship work, right? Right?
"Sorry, Spongey, I just can't…deal with this anymore. This won't be the last time I'll see you, I promise. But it's best if we go our separate ways…at least for now. It was nice having lunch with you, but I've gotta go."
"Goodbye, my love!" SpongeBob whimpered.
"Goodbye, Spongey," the sad squirrel responded.
They both departed in depression, walking toward their homes. I blew it, SpongeBob thought. Somehow, just somehow, I did.
SpongeBob continued his sad walk into his pineapple house. "Meow," his snail Gary asked.
"It was absolutely miserable," SpongeBob replied. "Sandy said…" SpongeBob sniffled, "we should be apart for a long time!"
For the rest of the day, SpongeBob tried to cheer himself up. Watching Mermaidman and Barnacleboy on TV didn't help, since SpongeBob always thought himself as kind of a superhero for Sandy. Then he tried looking into his scrapbook. He couldn't keep his eyes off the photos of him and his ex-girlfriend doing different fun things together, even though it was before they revealed their love for each other – Karate, being at Glove World together (SpongeBob was so scared, he held on to Sandy's arms!), sandboarding… SpongeBob couldn't hold his tears back.
However, as the sponge was going to bed, his mood changed as he looked at a picture of his best friend on the wall. "Patrick…" SpongeBob muttered. It finally hit him for real. He was now furious after he fully realized it.
"It's Patrick's fault that Sandy brutally dumped me! His buffoonery wrecked what would've been a crucial step in my relationship with Sandy!"
Oh, no! Things are looking even worse for poor SpongeBob here! And now he's very angry at Patrick! What will happen with them? Stay tuned for yet another chapter!
No, it won't take another year just for another chapter this time, I promise. J This chapter was supposed to be finished and posted by Thanksgiving 2018, but it got delayed.
