Truth Comes Out
Damon looked just as relieved to see Jade as she was to see him. Once he knew she wasn't going to scream, he took his hand away and pulled her close, holding her tight. He was so grateful that she was all right, not sure who would have taken her, having Bonnie use a locator spell to find her. He, Stefan, and Mason all left to go find her. Vicki and Matt were both angry that they weren't allowed to help, but Damon knew that Jade would be furious if they came and were in danger. Pulling back now, Damon looked her over once.
"Are-" He started to asked, but she immediately put a finger to her lips, silencing him.
"Vampire," she mouthed out, nodding back at the house. Damon pushed her hair away from her neck, checking her for any wounds. She stopped him, shaking her head to let him know that she was all right.
"Jade," Elijah's voice came as he stepped outside. "I know you're out here." He paused. "And someone's with you." Jade looked at Damon as if to ask what they should do. She certainly trusted Damon with her safety over Elijah. Damon took her hand and lead her around to the back of the house where Stefan and Mason were both waiting, leading them all through the door there.
"What are we doing?" Mason asked quietly, all of them hearing Elijah coming back through the front door and closing it as they hid around a corner.
"You think I won't find you?" Elijah called out, amusement in his voice.
"Stay," Damon mouthed to Jade before speeding away from her, zipping by Elijah and causing him to turn, though he saw nothing. Stefan followed his brother's lead, speeding by in another direction.
"So, you're with a few somebodies," Elijah commented now, realizing they were vampires. "If you're here to take her, I can promise you that it won't end well for you. I'm an original, you're not going to be able to beat me." He paused and one of the Salvatores sped by again, causing his head to turn. "And, if you're here to save her, there is no need. I'm not going to harm her." Tired of their running around by him, Elijah took a makeshift stake from the floor of the old abandoned house. When he turned around, Mason stood in the middle of the room.
"You're not gonna need that," Mason said, serving as a distraction, hoping Damon or Stefan came out soon to kill this guy; they were making up this plan as they went. "I'm not a vampire."
"No," Elijah looked him over once. "You must be one of the other werewolves." He paused. "You're with Jade then."
"I just want to take her home," Mason told him, not bothering to correct him; he imagined Damon in a hallway somewhere rolling his eyes. "She's got a family worried about her, a younger sister and brother."
"Interestingly enough," Elijah commented, coming closer to him. "I'm her family as well." Mason hid his surprise.
"Doesn't mean you can just take her," Mason said back; Elijah was so close now and Mason wondered where the others were.
"Watch me," Elijah said back. Out of no where, Stefan sped by, pulling Mason out of the way so Damon could run up, easily staking Elijah in the heart.
"I'm glad you decided to do that before he knocked my head off," Mason said lightly as Damon left Elijah's body on the floor; Damon rolled his eyes.
"Don't make me wish I had," Damon commented as he headed back the hall to find Jade in her hiding spot, but the door was wide open, leading him to find her on the porch pacing with her hands through her hair. "Hey," he got her attention and she ran over to him, throwing her arms around his neck. "It's all right," he promised gently, hugging her close. "He's gone, all right? He can't hurt you." She nodded, keeping her head buried against his shoulder.
"Are you ok Jade?" Mason asked as he and Damon came outside now.
"I'm fine," she nodded, pulling away from Damon a little, but he stayed close by, brushing a piece of hair out of her face.
"What happened?" Damon asked her now in concern.
"I don't know," Jade shook her head. "These other two vampires...they're the ones that brought me here...like..." She shook her head. "Like I was a peace offering or something."
"For that guy?" Damon asked in confusion.
"He said he was her family," Mason reminded them, in case they hadn't heard the whole talk; Damon was surprised.
"That wasn't your dad, was it?" Damon asked.
"No, he said he was an original," Stefan recalled. "They've got to be over a thousand years old now, and vampires can't have kids."
"He's my uncle," Jade interrupted them and they all looked at her in shock. "Apparently," she shrugged, shaking her head again. "I don't know...I..." She felt like her head was spinning. "My dad's his half brother, I guess? And he's...he's a werewolf and vampire, so he can still have kids..." She felt like she couldn't breath. "So..." She pointed back at the doorway, losing her words. "Elijah, he...he wanted to keep me safe because I guess um, I guess my...ah...dad's an even bigger douche bag than my step dad...just, um..."
"Ok, hey, come here," Damon said, leading her over and making her sit on the porch steps; she'd started hyperventilating. "Breath," he instructed, kneeling in front of her, and Jade took deep breaths to try to calm herself down. "We're gonna take you home, all right?" Damon said reassuringly, helping her to her feet.
"Do you guys know anything about the originals?" Jade asked now, stopping the three of them before they got to the car. They all seemed hesitant, having heard stories about the family.
"A little," Damon nodded, Stefan nodding in agreement.
"They always seemed more like a legend or bedtime story," Stefan added on.
"Do you know about one specifically?" Jade asked hesitantly, biting her lip. "Klaus, maybe?"
"Klaus?" Mason asked, though he should have pieced together which original Jade's dad would be since she was a werewolf. He had heard the stories about Klaus because he wanted to break the curse on him, so he could really be both, a vampire and a turning werewolf.
"Klaus, or Niklaus," Jade was listing on. "Nik, that's what he told my mom his name was." She didn't like the looks on their faces. They had all heard stories about the original family, and it's most dangerous member. "God, it's bad, isn't it?"
"We're gonna take you home," Damon told her without another word on the originals, kissing her forehead.
"OhmyGod, thankGod," Vicki was saying quickly as Damon brought Jade back to their house where she and Matt had been waiting, as well as Elena waiting on Stefan. Vicki ran over to her sister right away, nearly taking her out in the doorway as she threw her arms around her.
"Hey Vic," Jade said, the air nearly knocked out of her as she hugged Vicki back. "Hi Matty," she gave a small wave, though she couldn't get out of her sister's grasp.
"Are you all right Jay?" Matt asked worriedly, coming over now.
"I'm ok," Jade promised, managing to wriggle free from Vicki.
"We're going to let you guys alone," Stefan was saying now, taking Elena's hand. "I'm glad you're all right Jade."
"Yeah, me too," Elena nodded, looking worried as she looked at Jade. "Let us know if you need anything, all right?" Jade nodded appreciatively as they left. As they were leaving, Mason came over closer to her.
"I should head out too," Mason said politely, not wanting to intrude on her and her family when her siblings had been so worried. "Are you sure you're all right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Jade nodded, hugging him once. She felt him kissing her head and could feel Damon's glares.
"All right, I'll call you later," Mason said, heading out as well.
"You know I wanted to come, right?" Vicki said now, paying no mind to the moment with Mason, shooting a glare at Damon instead. "He actually broke my neck to make me stay here."
"I'm glad he did that," Jade admitted. "It wasn't safe-"
"OhmyGod, it was that bad?!" Vicki said, yanking her sister back into another hug. "What happened?"
"Maybe we should let her sit down first," Damon said lightly and Vicki let her sister go, though she followed her closely.
"I'm still mad at you Damon," Vicki said as she sat down with her sister on the couch. "What happened to you?"
"And who took you?" Matt asked, coming into the living room with them.
"Guys," Damon said.
"No, Damon, it's fine," Jade promised him as he came to stand by Matt. "And, to answer you guys, I don't know who took me. Just these two vampires...hoping they were doing someone a favor."
"Who?" Vicki asked in confusion.
"My uncle," Jade admitted and both Donovan siblings wore the same shocked expressions Mason and Damon had before. "...who's an original vampire," she added on now.
"They're the first ones ever?" Vicki asked and Jade nodded.
"But, how is your dad a vampire?" Matt asked in confusion. He remembered Vicki saying something about how she couldn't have kids now, which had bummed her out because she had wanted them, even if it was way down the line.
"He's a werewolf too," Jade shrugged. "I don't know how it happened, but it did and..." She bit her lip, looking at her hands. "I guess he's really bad news." She looked over at her sister, wondering what her look on her face meant. "What?" Jade asked.
"This is cool Jade," Vicki admitted.
"Vic," Matt said seriously while Damon just shook his head at her.
"Hey Matty, remember that time dad spent more time on this couch than at his job?" Vicki asked sarcastically. "Look, Jade's dad might be a dick too, but at least he sounds important." She smiled at Jade. "This means that you're, like, really special or something."
"I don't want to be special," Jade protested, looking to Damon for support and he just shrugged.
"I think she's trying to make you feel better," Damon pointed out.
"I don't want to feel better," Jade said, falling back against the couch, feeling her sister taking her hand.
"Well, think of it this way," Vicki said optimistically. "Your uncle is gone, and I'm guessing so are the vampires that took you?" She looked to Damon for confirmation and he nodded. They had found the one male vampire in the house, already killed by Elijah. When he had gone to find Jade initially, Mason caught the female vampire and killed her as well. "So, you don't have to worry about dealing with him ever. He'll never know."
Jade stayed at the house with Damon and her siblings for the rest of that night, just happy to be home. Even though they wanted to know more about what happened and about Jade's father, they didn't press the matter any further. Jade didn't have any more answers than she had already given, and they could tell that it upset her. The next morning, Matt and Vicki both left for work, leaving Jade to sleep in while Damon stayed in bed with her. With a knock at the door downstairs, Jade woke up groaning.
"Maybe they'll go away," Damon murmured, still half asleep himself. As the knocking continued, they realized that wasn't going to be the case and Jade rolled out of bed in her pajamas, pulling her hair up into a messy bun.
"Maybe it's my ghost witch grandmother come to give me an inheritance check," Jade mumbled sarcastically, going down the stairs.
"Better than kidnapping you," Damon called after her, though she heard him getting ready so he could follow her. Jade rolled her eyes at him, opening the door now.
"Nope," Jade shook her head simply, ready to slam the door on Kelly's face.
"Jade, honey," Kelly protested, putting her hand on the door to keep it from closing.
"Kelly?" Damon said in surprise as she came over next to Jade, making Kelly smile at her daughter as if to say good job; Jade just rolled her eyes again.
"My threat to call the cops still stands," Jade reminded her.
"I'm not here to stay," Kelly promised, rooting through her purse for something and finally got the key ring, holding it out for Jade to take with a smile.
"Three keys?" Jade asked in confusion, taking them from her. "Three of the exact same key?"
"They're to my new apartment," Kelly said proudly. "One for each of you, so you can come over whenever you want."
"You got an apartment?" Jade raised her eye brows. "Alone or with Paul?"
"His name was Pete," Kelly corrected her. "And, I'm alone. I really took the things you said to heart Jade, and I want to come home and be with you guys." She smiled. "So, I split up with Pete, convinced Roberta to give me my bartender job back-"
"Oh, well hopefully you're not your own best customer," Jade gave a fake smile.
"And I got a new place," Kelly finished, ignoring Jade's comment; she sighed. "I know it's going to take awhile honey, but I miss you." Jade hesitated, not sure what to do. After all, she couldn't stop her mom from moving back to Mystic Falls.
"You can't come over here," Jade told her.
"Understood," Kelly nodded. "And, listen, I know I've used up most of my chances with you-"
"Most?" Jade scoffed. "Try all of them mom." Kelly sighed.
"I talked to Roberta," Kelly continued. Jade didn't like the look in her mother's eyes, it usually meant she was going to ask for something. "I know it's short notice, but it's your birthday next week. And I wanted to have a party for my baby," she smiled.
"I'll be twenty-three, I'm not a baby," Jade protested and she felt slightly bratty, but Kelly surely deserved it.
"Well, if you want to admit it or not you're always my baby," Kelly said simply. "And, I'll be out of your hair most of the night since I'll be working anyway, but I thought all your friends could come and we could celebrate being together again."
"That sounds great Kelly," Damon agreed, cutting Jade off before she could make another comment. "We'll be there."
"Perfect," Kelly smiled at him while all Jade did was glare.
A week passed and Kelly was eagerly setting up for Jade's birthday party. While it was business as usual at the grille, they had set aside a few tables in the corner for the party, with Kelly setting up a few decorations. She did it alone, without either Matt or Vicki's help; they were done with her like Jade was. Kelly really meant what she said though when she said that she wanted to come home and make things right with her children. After she finished tying a few balloons down around the tables, she returned to the bar to resume working and wait for everyone to show up. The first person to walk over to the bar though caught her off guard.
"Oh my-"
"Don't scream," he interrupted her, compelling her to stay quiet and Kelly stopped.
Klaus had been searching for Elijah, wondering what plan his brother had against him now. He had heard that he had come through this way in Virginia, though as he was passing through town himself he spotted the brunette bartender walking into the Mystic Grille and decided it would be fun to relive some old times. At least, it would be fun for him while she looked like she was about to start panicking; maybe that was half the fun for him.
"How do you look exactly the same Nik?" Kelly asked quietly.
"Oh, right," Klaus said, remembering he had compelled her to forget what he was. "You can remember everything about me now," he informed her and all the memories came flooding back. Before, Kelly had thought they just spent a weekend together in Chicago, where she had met him and his brother while she was waitressing; and, after he disappeared, she found out she was pregnant and had no way to contact him.
"Oh my God," she gasped now, remembering what he was, how he had fed on her and made her forget. "You...you're..."
"Yes, I know," he rolled his eyes, but smirked. "Let's not-"
"You have to get out of here," Kelly said, both quickly and quietly. Klaus looked at her with some confusion.
"You just want to throw me out of here?" Klaus asked in amusement, wondering why she thought she could; if he wanted to be there, he was going to stay.
"It's my daughter's birthday," Kelly pleaded and he noticed the decorations. "If she knows about you, she'll never forgive me."
"Why would it matter if your daughter knew about me?" Klaus asked curiously, then he stopped, thinking about it. He had always wondered about this, since he was both vampire and werewolf. Which was the more dominant trait when it came to having children? He was about to find out. "How old is your daughter?"
"Nik, please, I just want to be a good mom," Kelly told him and he leaned in closer to her.
"How old is she?" Klaus compelled her. Kelly didn't want to tell him, he would easily figure it out, but she couldn't stop herself.
"Twenty-three," Kelly confessed.
"Really," Klaus said now, taking a seat at the bar. It fit the timeline perfectly for when he was in Chicago with Kelly.
"Nik-"
"I just want to say hello to the birthday girl," he smiled at her.
