Gimme Shelter
One Month Later
"How is it down there?" Damon was asking Jade on the phone.
Within the last month, things got back to normal with them; after all, he couldn't stay mad at her for something that wasn't her fault. Jade's encounters with her father were scarce, though she saw Elijah and Rebekah more frequently. While Tyler and most of the other hybrids stuck around town though they were free, Mason took off for obvious uncomfortable reasons. For now, Matt was looking at various colleges that were trying to recruit him to play football, including one in Louisiana. Vicki and Jade ended up taking a side trip to New Orleans.
"Hot," Jade laughed, walking through the French Quarter with her younger sister while Matt was staying at the college's campus. "We're getting ready to do one of those haunted tour things though, what are you up to?"
"Meeting Stefan at the grille," Damon said, heading into the bar where he ended up spotting Elijah and Klaus. "Have fun tonight, all right? Love you."
"Love you too," Jade smiled as she hung up. Damon tucked his phone in his pocket, with Elijah and Klaus coming to his end of the bar where he was waiting for his brother.
"Hello Damon," Klaus greeted him.
"Hey," Damon just nodded at him. Jade was working on getting past what her dad did, but that didn't mean Damon was going to bother trying at all.
"Damon," Elijah said now.
"Favorite original," Damon said, just to annoy Klaus; that, and it was true. Finn was gone, Kol was for the most part but got under everyone's skin while he was there; Rebekah was having some kind of mean girl contest as she went back to high school with the other girls that he had to hear about every day.
"Where's Jade tonight?" Klaus asked him.
"Out of town with her sister and brother," Damon said casually. "New Orleans, she'll be back tomorrow afternoon."
"New Orleans?" Klaus questioned and he nodded. "Isn't that something Elijah," he said to his brother. "She's visiting the city we practically built."
"Must have been hard without any sired hybrids," Damon commented sarcastically. Klaus went to say something, but stopped when Damon's phone started ringing again. Confused about who was calling him, Damon pulled his phone to see that it was Vicki.
"Aren't you supposed to be listening to old ghost stories by now?" Damon asked, though he couldn't hide his concern.
"It was a set up Damon," Vicki said, walking through the cemetery alone, looking for any sign of her sister.
"What?" Damon asked, Klaus and Elijah listening.
"I don't know," Vicki confessed. "One second, we're heading into the cemetery to meet up with the group. The next, we both have these throbbing headaches."
"Witches?" Damon asked.
"Yeah," Vicki nodded. "By the time I got back up they were gone and they took Jade with them."
"We'll be on the next flight," Damon told her, getting up from his seat.
"We?" Vicki asked in confusion.
"Klaus and Elijah are here," Damon said, leaving the bar with them. "Doubt I'm going to be able to shake them, besides they're my best shot at getting there tonight."
"Fine, just get here," Vicki said, figuring the more people they had looking for Jade the better. "I'm gonna start looking for the witch that suggested the tour."
"What's her name?" Damon asked.
"Jane Anne Deveraux," Vicki answered. "When are you gonna get here?"
"It's about an hour flight once we compel an airline," she heard Klaus saying. "We'll be in town before midnight."
"Good," Vicki said, figuring it was something to do with him that got her sister into this situation. "And, Damon?"
"Yeah?" Damon asked as Elijah was driving towards the airport.
"Don't call Matty," she begged. "He's having a normal college visit, I really just want this to get taken care of and for him to get back to normal."
"Let's hope he never has to find out," Damon assured her, hanging up the phone.
Damon, Elijah, and Klaus arrived in the city around eleven, just as Klaus said before midnight. Damon left a message for his brother, saying Jade was in trouble and he had to leave town with the originals. Arriving in the city, they all took off in different directions. Damon went to find Vicki to help her while Elijah and Klaus started their search for the witches separately. Klaus discovered his old friend Marcel still living in the city, using him to help him find Jane Anne since Vicki hadn't had any luck so far.
"What's your issue with Jane Anne?" Marcel questioned curiously.
"She has information on someone close to me," Klaus said vaguely.
"Your daughter?" Marcel asked and Klaus looked at him curiously. "Hey man, word travels fast, especially out of that supernatural hot spot that is Mystic Falls."
"Jade is missing," Klaus said seriously. "I need to find her. Jade's sister says they were set up with a tour group rouse, that Jane Anne suggested it."
"I got Jane Anne here on some charges of my own," Marcel said as the other vampires brought Jane Anne forward. "Let's see what we can find out."
While Klaus had wanted the witch dead knowing she did have something to do with Jade going missing, he wasn't happy when Marcel killed her before they got any answers. Luckily, Elijah was able to track down Jane Anne's sister who knew where Jade was and was willing to take them there; turned out that was the whole point in taking her. Klaus left for the cemetery where Jade was being held, finding Vicki and Damon arriving nearly the same time as him. Elijah was already in the tomb with Jade, checking her to make sure she was all right.
"Damon!" Jade said when she saw he was there, running over to him and throwing her arms around him. Vicki stood behind Damon, taking one of her sister's hands and squeezing it.
"I'm so glad you're ok," Vicki said, her eyes tearing up; she was afraid the witches killed Jade.
"Nik," Jade said, seeing her father there, pulling away from Damon though he kept an arm around her.
"I'm going to find out what's going on and who's done this to you," Klaus assured her. "And I'm going to take care of it."
"I can give you the answer to the first part," Jane Anne's sister, Sophie, was saying now, coming into the tomb with a few other witches. "And I can tell you what you can do to keep them safe."
"Them?" Klaus questioned. "Are you threatening my family?"
"More accurately your daughter and your grandchild," Sophie said, and all eyes fell on Jade.
"No," Jade said as this was news even to her. The witches never told her what she was doing there and she assumed that she alone was bait for her father to get there. "No, I can't, I..." She motioned to herself. "I can't have kids."
"Vampires can't, but werewolves can," Sophie reminded her. "Just like how your father conceived you. And since you happen to be just like him-"
"But he," Jade said, motioning at Damon, but then realized what had to have happened. "Oooooh my God," Jade gasped, dragging it out, having to sit down on a nearby stone bench. They all focused in on her, able to hear the tiny heart beat coming from her. It was true, she was pregnant; this wasn't something the witches were making up to get them there.
"No,no,no," Jade said quickly. "This isn't happening."
"Mason?" Vicki questioned and Damon shot her a look. "Ok, we were all thinking it."
"We need your help," Sophie interrupted.
"You have the nerve to kidnap my daughter, then ask me for a favor?" Klaus challenged her. "What's to stop me from killing all of you now?" Sophie responded simply by taking out her earring, pricking her finger with it. Jade jumped, blood trickling from her finger tip.
"That enough for you?" Sophie challenged back. "We have a vampire problem here, specifically with Marcel. We've been trying to take the city back, but he's always one step ahead of us, killing witches that are doing magic."
"You want us to kill this Marcel guy?" Damon questioned. "Tell me where he is, I'll take his head off right now."
"It's not that simple," Sophie said. "We have a plan and there are rules." Klaus didn't seem convinced. "If you don't help me, you'll never see your grandchild. Your daughter you love so much won't make it out of her first trimester."
"Fine," Klaus gave in. He would go with whatever it was that these witches wanted, as long as it kept Jade safe.
"We're taking her to our home here," Elijah said now. "There's nothing more we can do tonight."
"Let's go," Damon said, taking Jade's hand and leading her out of the tomb, Vicki not far behind. They all drove to the plantation home the family had kept for them on the far edge of town, with there being more than enough rooms for everyone. Jade sat in her and Damon's room for a long time quietly, just sitting on the bed while he silently paced the room.
"You're making me nervous," Jade accused softly. She had talked to Vicki and they decided to call Matt in the morning, then their mother. Jade was unable to leave New Orleans for now and there was no point in hiding the reason from Matt and Kelly.
"Sorry," Damon said, though he didn't stop pacing.
"It's fine," Jade murmured. She understood. She could hear her father and uncle debating on what to do downstairs, how to go about the Marcel situation and how they were going to try to get around the witches; whatever they had to in order to keep Jade safe. There was one giant elephant in the room that none of them were acknowledging though.
"You know I have to call him Damon," Jade said softly.
"Yeah," Damon nodded now. "Yeah, I know." As much as he hated it, Mason had every right to know about his kid. And, it wouldn't hurt to have another hybrid on their side right now.
"I am so sorry this happened," Jade said, getting up now.
"It's not your fault," Damon assured her, coming closer to her.
"This doesn't change anything for me Damon," Jade said quickly. "I still only want you, I want to be with you." She paused. "Things aren't different for you, are they?"
"I'm not going to make you pick between me and your kid Jade," Damon said like it were obvious, taking her hand. "I'll call Stefan in the morning, tell him I'm staying here for awhile. That...our unconventional family is extending," he said, smiling at her.
"I love you," Jade smiled back.
"I love you too Jade Donovan," Damon said, kissing her now.
"Pregnant?!" Kelly was snapping on the phone the next morning when Vicki called her. Vicki already called Matt and convinced him to go home, that it wasn't safe for him in New Orleans. The Donovan sisters wanted their brother to have as normal of a life as possible because they knew that was what he really wanted; that included going back to high school and not getting dragged into this mess.
"Pregnant pregnant?" she asked in disbelief now.
"Pregnant, with child, knocked up," Vicki listed off. "Anyway you wanna say it, that's what Jade is right now."
"I thought vampires couldn't have kids," Kelly was saying.
"Well, it's through the same loop hole where you got pregnant," Vicki reminded her. "Klaus can have kids because he's also a wolf, and so can Jade."
"Right, but Damon's a..." Kelly trailed off when she realized. "Noooo," she gasped.
"Mhmm," Vicki nodded.
"Mason?" Kelly questioned, having heard about that incident from her daughters. "Does he know?"
"Jade called him late last night, said she was in some trouble," Vicki shrugged. "Didn't want to tell him on the phone. Anyway, he was driving back to Virginia from California, so he's swinging down here. Should be by later this morning."
"What's Damon think about all this?" Kelly asked.
"That he loves her and wants to be a step dad apparently," Vicki said, drinking some of her breakfast and relaxing back on the couch.
"Is it weird that I'm jealous of her?" Kelly said lightly.
"She's got two gorgeous men in love with her," Vicki said. "She gets pregnant with the one and the other one is ok with it." Vicki shrugged. "Hell, if her life wasn't on the line I would be jealous too."
"I'm coming there," Kelly said.
"No way mom," Vicki protested. "It's too dangerous, and Matty needs you there. I'll take care of Jade, I promise." She heard a car door out front. "Look, mom, Mason's here. I'll keep you posted." She heard Klaus and Elijah leaving the study, letting Mason into the house. They lead him through the massive house to where Vicki was sitting in the living room, just hanging up her phone.
"Hey Vic," Mason greeted her. "Where's your sister?"
"Hey," Jade interrupted, coming downstairs now with Damon. "Let's, um, talk outside. Ok?" Mason nodded, following her through the glass doors that lead out onto the massive wrap around porch.
"Not much privacy in a house of vampires and hybrids," Mason said lightly and Jade gave a small smile, knowing everyone was inside listening. "Is everything ok Jade? You sounded really freaked out last night, said you were in trouble?" Jade nodded, but couldn't find the words. "What are you even doing in New Orleans?"
"Matt had a college visit in Baton Rogue," Jade explained. "Me and Vicki took a girls trip down here for a night and..." She shook her head. "These witches kidnapped me to get my dad here."
"Well, he's here now," Mason said. "I'm sure he's taking care of it, right?"
"I can't leave the city Mason," Jade explained. "I'm linked to this witch Sophie and...she's going to kill me if my dad doesn't help her."
"Jade, I'm sorry," Mason told her genuinely. "And, really, I'm glad you called me. But..." Klaus and Elijah were here, Vicki was here, Damon was here; why was he? "What made you call me?"
"I'm not the only one that the witches are threatening," Jade said softly and Mason seemed even more confused. "Mason...I'm pregnant."
"Pregnant?" Mason repeated in disbelief and she nodded. "But how?" He realized that, obviously, she was the child of a hybrid. And since hybrids could have children... "And, it's mine?" he asked, still in shock.
"I mean, it's not Damon's," Jade mumbled.
"I didn't mean it like that," Mason said. "I'm just...surprised, that's all."
"Me too," Jade let out a deep breath.
"It's not a bad surprise," Mason promised her, gently taking her hand. "I'm gonna stick around for awhile, all right? We'll figure this out, keep you two safe ok?"
"Yeah, ok," Jade nodded. Everyone was promising her that she would be all right, but she wasn't so sure.
"I promise," Mason assured her, hugging her now.
